The staff were fantastic. The food was brilliant. The noisy squeaky chairs were not!!
We had an amazing young woman serving at breakfast called Natalie. Very welcoming, very chatty and cheery. Nothing was too much trouble for her. She went the extra little mile for us., those little things mean everything.

Anniversary dinner and stay and a round of golf given to us by our kids. Accommodation was very good, the food and service in the Ryder Grill were exceptional. A special mention must go to Marios and Paul for sorting a minor issue with the bill (I forgot to mention a £40 voucher we had and this should’ve been presented when the bill arrived) this was fixed the following morning and the £40 was returned to my account despite the front desk saying nothing could be done. The bar area was nice and relaxed though not cheap, but in a top venue this is expected. Photos showing the Ryder Cup tournaments at the Belfry adorn the bars and public areas and add a nice feel about the place. Again, the food was excellent...
The food was very nice, we were seated right at the front which was a shame as our seats we were supposed to have still had people sitting there. Although a little pricey the food was very high quality and I thoroughly enjoyed it, sweet potato and sauce was amazing. Service was always with a smile. I would eat here again.
Little bit on the pricey side but food average. Had steak which were both cooked to perfection. Service was excellent we were even offered a complimentary starter as the meal took a long time to arrive due to how we ordered the steaks to be cooked. The waitress was excellent and a credit to the grill. Restaurant was a little on the cold side could do with a little more heat in the annex area where we sat.
Given the prices in this restaurant the food is average at best and the service is very poor. Choice of beer and wines by the glass is very limited. Good for poseurs not for eaters
We ate here because we were on a golf trip and didn’t want to have to drive anywhere. The restaurant is fine but no great shakes.
The restaurant was very noisy and cold, not at all somewhere to celebrate a birthday.
The food was ok but overpriced for what it was. We were brought the wrong wine and charged twice for one of our starters. Our waitress was pleasant and they did give a complimentary glass of prosecco to recognise my husbands birthday.
Please reframe from dinning in the buffet .arranged a birthday meal with high expectations and so let down by taste and poor quality meats starter buffet was fine . But for a 35 pound 3 course . Somethings got to be good .. and my question is that if cooks can expect this to be good quality . Then I've seriously got to ask what there main menu will be like . So on that note .might be back for golf and hotel stay but Ryder grill can keep there quality

I booked a table for my Husbands birthday, I ordered the mixed grill and when I was asked how I wanted my steak, I asked for medium well. My husband had a steak and ordered a red wine sauce. Our meals arrived and my steak was in fact rare and bleeding. I asked for it to be cooked longer and asked again for medium well, at this point we also sent back the red wine sauce as it was just like water in consistancy and had no taste at all. The waitress apologised and seemed extremely embarrassed. We saw her telling the Manager. The manager returned back with my steak in a few minutes and with no apology said "here you go, you wanted it cooked more" then walked off. I cut into my steak again and it wasn't much different so had to send it back again. The waitress agreed it was more on the rare side and took it back again. This happened again and on the third time of receiving my steak back and it still not being cooked enough being (still with blood), I gave up and left it on my plate. My mix grill cost £30, I certainly didn't feel this was worth it. Being a 'grill' restaurant I would have thought the chef could cook a steak but obviously not! This ruined our night and the birthday experience for my husband. We paid for the steak and were offered a free desert, we didn't feel this was good enough and would not recommend this restaurant for a special occasion! We will certainly wont be returning. Major disappointment. I think this restaurant is over priced and trying to be something it isn't. Basic cooking skills need to be mastered first, then put the prices up when there is a reason to come in the first place. We found the Manager rude and unable to handle a complaint as he avoided the situation where he could. No check back and on clearing our plates nothing was said to us despite my undercooked steak remaining untouched on my plate. We received more empathy from the waitress who served us who was the only positive of the night.
The food was ok, however quite average, the sides had obviously been under a heat lamp for quite a while. The service though was slow and inattentive, as a member of the Golf Club the value was good but I’m sure I would take guests there again.
Excellent food great service fab surroundings perfect for all occasions
Lovely atmosphere and perfect noise level. Food and drink was high quality which is what’s we were after for our special occasion. Staff were very friendly and professional, however we sometimes had to get up to find someone if we were waiting a while to ask for something. What was quite disappointing was that some of our glasses were not clean (lipstick marks on one and smears on others) as well as we had to go through the plates to find clean ones to use. We did mention this to the staff and they were apologetic and said they would be following up as there were other guests complaining. The vegetation options include the salad bar, steamed veg, rice and gnocchi, ideally there would be other options but the quality of this food was high so we were happy. The desserts are also extremely nice!
We were recommended to visit The Ryder Grill for Sunday lunch for my sons 18th Birthday treat on Sunday 15th July 2018 7.15pm. The Lunch was fully booked so we decided to take the a-la-cart dinner menu later that evening. The restaurant was very quiet. We were seated at a family table in a good location. There were 8 of us. We ordered drinks. Bottled beer was served very warm. White wine selection was served very warm. We had to request an alternative tap beer which was provided, Ice was provided after asking several times. Well dressed waitresses seemed distracted with their discussions. We asked the reason why the drinks were not cold... a fridge had been broken for the past week. Bread was requested 'for the table' - 6 small pieces were provided for 8 people - they said we could have more, which we ordered - however - only three pieces were provided at any one time, however - so we ordered four times... we were not charged for the bread however . Staff were very young and inexperienced and not pro-reactive at dealing with basic requests and potential issues. We ordered 4 T bone steaks - quality was extremely average. Portions were small. Lamb was great but not to spec from the menu. Halibut was good but very small portion. We eat a lot of steak when we dine out - at some lovely restaurants with average pricing... the costs at the Belfry are extremely excessive - for the return on food quality and quantity and service, which at best was average. Side orders were all extra. In their defense - they did ask half way through if everything was ok - I said yes - I did not want to disrupt my Sons party - I wanted to say something but the quality of the staff led me to believe I would not achieve a desired response... I planed to write my comments to the Manager directly instead. We are not complainers... we don't seek recompense... we suffer most small issues, however this rates highly as an experience I do not want to repeat. A real shame as the venue is top class.
Having a night out at the Belfry and the Bel-Air nightclub, it seemed a good idea to eat there, as we have done many times before. However, the Ryder Grill seems to have got ideas (and prices) above it's station since our last visit.
The prices are now almost at a Michelin Star level, without the ambience and service that you would expect. The saving grace is the food is actually very good. The welcome was exceptional, the waitress attentive, the meal excellent, the downside being the noise from a number of the 10-20 person size hen and birthday party groups. With them all having the buffet option, and being seated near the buffet, we were definitely not in for a quiet night.
Overall, food good, prices very high and the ambience not good for chatting. Probably best suited to hen/stag and birthday groups now.

Absolutely gorgeous food in lovely surroundings. Excellent service. The weather was good too so we took a ‘liquid dessert’ outside and sat by the golf course and just chilled!
Chose from A La Care menu as had previously sampled the buffet. Definitely the best choice.
This was my first visit to the belfry restaurant for many years and such a disappointment! As we walked in it felt more like a canteen than a restaurant in a 4 star hotel. Although the staff were very friendly they didn’t seem to know what they doing or which table they were looking after! We were either asked twice for drinks or ignored. The food was fine for the prices but I also expect excellent service. This restaurant is aimed at business people and you certainly wouldn’t choose it for friends or family celebrations. Such a shame.
Disappointed to find out this restaurant is the the same place as the breakfast buffet. Sorry that there isn't a decent evening dining venue at this hotel where you dont have to walk past the breakfast buffet station.

The meat was dry and the variety not very appetising.
The food was above average. My steak was slightly overcooked but the taste was very good.
Annie who served us on both nights was exceptional. She had the right balance of fun and efficiency.

Was in the restaurant for 2 hours! In the first hour we only had our starter, then took ages for mains to come, even though 70% of the restaurant were having the buffet option! Slow service and food was average. Restaurant needs to pick up the pace a little!
I would not recommend this restaurant. The food was poor quality and overpriced for the standard. The wine was extremely overpriced.
I felt that The Ryder Grill capitalised on a captive audience!
We arrived expecting an A la carte menu but were offered a confusing variety of options, including a la carte, buffet, buffet combination and a la carte buffet combination. Once we deliberated about the number of options the food was all well cooked and tasty. The wine was very expensive £45 for a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc which we found in the supermarket for £8!
Good food, friendly and professional staff, beautiful surroundings. Highly recommended, will most definitely be returning
My wife ordered Parmesan salad and was bought fries and spring vegetables, pointed this out and received a rocket salad with tomatoes, pointed this out again the waiter walked up and down the restaurant then bought the same plate back with Parmesan shavings on top. My wife ordered fillet steak medium rare, and received medium well done, complained to the waitress who said that we could have another steak cooked but as this was about 20.30pm and i had received my meal this wasn't an option we were out to dine together. We advised the waitress after the meal that we were going outside for a cigarette , on the way out the assistant manager asked were we going to pay for our meal before we left the restaurant, i pointed out that we had advised our waitress and my wife had left her bag at the table quite rude. When we returned to the table it had been cleared half glasses of wine everything ( these were replaced by our waitress (who did apologise). On receipt of the final bill we were told by the assistant manager that my wife's steak had been discounted by 50% as she had eaten it? what was she supposed to do they wouldn't change my meal as this was fine so it would have meant i would have eaten on my own whilst my wife waited not good enough for the high price being charged. Overall the waitress was very good, very attentive and helpfull, i would suggest that the assistant manager has more training, the food was good but over priced.
Had the 3 course buffet meal £34.99 on Friday evening starter choices and main choices were excellent ,but dessert wasnt buffet style?? only a choice of five desserts from a dessert menu??and was only allowed one! so disappointed after I'd told friends that the desserts choices were fantastic after I'd had Sunday lunch previously and it was a lovely selection that you helped yourself to?
I felt the menu was very expensive and the choice very limited and dishes over complicated. Why add marrow to a fish dish? I got the impression that dishes were made pretentious to compensate for the cost. Keep it simple with standard everyday ingredients.
We had a lovely evening. There were 8 of us and all our meals came out hot and together. Everyone enjoyed the meal and the waiters was very attentive, our glasses were not left empty. Food was amazing we chose to eat from the menu not the buffet as we wanted to be served at our table.
The service was very slow ,we waited 45 minutes for our starters
We then had to remind the waiter twice for our wine
We had ordered chateaubriand which we had,had before last time it was served on a slate board, seved with roasted vine tomatoes and shallots
This time it was served on what looked like a dinner plate with half grilled tomatoe and a large mushroom

Great food and service but overpriced. Charged over £5 for a bottle of water on table and £7 for a bowl of ice cream!!
The food wasn't great, I love the place in general . Have been here before and had a nice tasty meal but this time around the food wasn't great.
Thought the three course buffet option was good value as pricing and service was explained by both the hostess and the waitress. That was until the bill came and there was VAT on top. Never been to a restaurant where the VAT was charged separately so came as a shock on the bill.
We have dined at The Ryder Grill on several occasions and really enjoyed our experience but It was difference this time around. Service was not as good. My friend and I had the beetroot starter (over £7) it’s was a very small portion of each ingredient especially the nuts and cheese, not good value for money at all. Won’t be rushing back which is a shame as I’ve always looked forward to our visits.
The best of everything, food, services and quality is high Michelin standards. I wouldn’t eat anywhere else in Birmingham as they simply do not compete with the high food standards & value.
I am unsure whether if I was looking for a date, that I would make the Grill the first choice of preference?????? The curse of the Belfry is the poor quality of Reception/Telephone responding. We often date a meal at the Grill, however, the torture to be endured is actually getting through and or getting someone to answer the telephone, or getting the person who has answered the telephone to understand that you are trying to book a table in the Grill and not the restaurant.
It might ease the situation is the Grill had a designated direct line for clients.

The buffet was terrible, the sort of food you'd expect in a student canteen, chicken curry, vegetable lasagne and lamb koftas and a shredded duck dish were the 4 choices. This may be ok at £12 but not for £34.99 per head! Would not go back
