Food great, service wonderful, our waitress is a real asset to The Seashell, we will be back!
First time out to eat for my wife and I due to lockdown. We were really looking forward to a restaurant experience and we were not disappointed.
Clearly separated tables and staff very keen to make you enjoy the experience even though being so quiet it could never be the buzzy room this place always was.
Food perfect, crispy whitebait followed by perfectly cooked Cod and chips with mushy peas to die for, never can make them like this at home.
They had also had a referb pre lockdown with a new central bar to eat at, obviously not practical to use at the moment but will be great when in use, check out the huge octopus stretching across the ceiling!
Very enjoyable evening
Top quality fish, well prepared and served. Good staff, slightly unfriendly room. Needs better/more draught beer choices......
Rather expensive.......but overall 9/10. Will definitely return.
We had a very enjoyable evening the fish was most tasty. The staff very attentive and obliging. Definitely would return.
Very cool setting and lovely fish and chips. Big portions. Little bit pricey but still very worth while
Excellent Very fresh fish and chips!
Excellent fish and chips. I doubt that there's any betterin London.
Very good, portions surprisingly good size, grilled sea bass was totally fab! Also enjoyed Cornish oysters - more meaty than others I tried in London. Very attentive service. We will return with kids next time!
Food was good, lots of great fish dishes and other accompaniments. Chips were good but could be great, especially as they are the star of the show for the sides. Service was attentive but not over bearing. Restaurant ambiance lovely. 'The Seashell' has a stylish interior, so many fish restaurants have a smaltzy nautical decor. The copper octopus draped over the bar and reaching to the ceiling is something you have to see; a wonderful piece of art. All round great restaurant.
lovely lunch with a family friend, service was amazing will definitely go back
Lovely restaurant, great service and fantastic fish and chips. Will be back!
I generally love dining at Sea Shell, the food is always so delicious. I particularly love the grilled King Prawns. It was a busy night and maybe understaffed because we felt a little, let’s say ‘forgotten’. And the service was slow. I wouldn’t call it bad service though, because the waiting staff were very lovely when they did attend our table. It took half an hour for a juice to arrive, and 20 mins after our starter was finished for our mains to arrive. Hopefully the next time I go, I’ll have a better experience
Amazing food , amazing staff and if I can give this restaurant 10 starts I would .
Fabulous food as usual!
Really nice. They’ve really upped their game!
My favourite fish and chip restaurant in London. Lots of choice on the menu. Service very friendly and helpful.
Definitely one of if not the best place for fish and chips in London
BEAUTIFUL PLACE, GREAT FOOD AND EXCELLENT SERVICE
WE WILL BE BACK
The food here is the best in town and you pay accordingly.
sService is a bit overly formal for fish and chips but Sea shell seems to get more upmarket every time we go....since the island bar was installed in the middle service is slower as the staff cant see you ? dont make an effort ?to check the tables .
cant fault the service once it arrives.
Always great quality fish and chips in a buzzy atmosphere
Saw some bad reviews of this place, but honestly it was faultless. Though a little pricey, even if they were great fish and chips!
Very predictably good food and excellent service. Best fish and chips for miles.
I definately would reccomend to my friends. Really worth it.
The food was excellent, our first time there dining in so we were very impressed. The waiting staff were fantastic, they even brought out some crayons and pictures to colour in, so as to not let the children (we have two) get bored -great initiative 👍🏻 definitely go back soon!
Probably the best fish and chips in London just slightly pricey post refurb. Guess it is now positioning itself as an upmarket fish restaurant.
Glad to see the interior of this iconic restaurant been upgraded but disappointed that the long standing problem of poor ventilation still remains unresolved!
We really enjoyed our fish and chip lunch (we all had haddock and chips) - couldn't manage a dessert though. Lovely piece of fish, although we reckon it was only just cooked through! Chips were lovely and it came with a pot of tomato ketchup and some tartare sauce. My husband asked for a side of coleslaw, which was very nice, if a little too much mayonnaise!. However, the staff didn't have a clue about what constitutes decaffeinated drinks. My husband asked for a decaf coffee after our meal, the server went away (having told him it was available), and came back to say that they no longer had decaf, would he like a decaf tea. Yes, please, my husband said - and promptly got served with a mint tea! And my husband has an aversion to all things with fresh mint in. So a bit of a discussion followed, they didn't have any decaf proper tea - and another server asked if he would like a green mint tea (huh!?) Anyway, we enjoyed our main course, and went somewhere for coffee after leaving the Seashell. Must also add that the music in the restaurant could have been a bit softer in volume!
The grilled prawns were probably the best I’ve ever had. Service was great and it was just a pleasant dining experience
Excellent meal as usual . An early dinner for 3.
We all enjoyed the Haddock & chips plus sides as well as lovely desserts.
Staff were in fancy dress/make up for Halloween which added to the atmosphere.
Super disappointing. Kitchen and bar were out of several things we attempted to order. Service was poor. Had to have our bill adjusted as something from the table next to us was in our check. The food we did get was just okay. Seriously surprised at the favorable online rating for this restaurant. Maybe it’s really for the takeout?
The cod filet portion is very slim and small not enough to feed a hungry man. We asked for bread but they had only toast. The shrimps starter was crunchier than it should be and can't taste the garlic and coriander flavour. The fish and chips was good as was the mashy peas and the chips.
They're the best fish and chips / fish restaurant in our part of London. Can't recommend enough. My wife had a whole seabass grilled and it was great, fresh and didn't seem to be a farmed fish as it was very large and tasty.
I had my usual haddock and chips which as usual were great.
The restaurant looks great since the refurb.
Best fish and chips in London
Good selection of affordable, delicious grilled fish.
Quality of food was excellent and very good service
This is my favorite fish and chip restaurant in London. The fish is always of excellent quality and freshly cooked. Service is good and the atmosphere relaxed.
Apart from the fried fish, which was good, the other courses were mediocre. The chips with the fried fish were soggy and tasteless, and the sole was overcooked. The service was very slow and not very attentive. The decor and noise levels were fine, and, when they got a chance to give us some attention, the staff were friendly. They could do with some reinforcements, though!
Very good food with a great service i recomnendet for all
June 27th 2019.
The Cornish lemon sole was outstanding. Best fish and chips we’ve ever had -period! Not a drop of oil to be found on the fish or batter, served piping hot, beautiful delicate white flaky fish.
Prawn and avocado salad was our second favorite.
Fish cake was excellent, the poached egg topping off a delicate amalgamation of mashed potatoes, chives and citrus with 4 visible fish types.
The fried calamari was crisp and delicious, but fork tender, skip the chili sauce, it needs something more delicate. Just a squeeze of lime would suit it better.
The issue we had with The Seashell of Lisson Grove obviously wasn’t the food - but the lackluster customer service followed by equally terrible table service. The hostess did not greet us, did not smile, wasn’t at all welcoming. And the restaurant wasn’t busy - only 3 tables occupied. The server was equally inattentive and underwhelming in his manner or care. They both simply couldn’t have been bothered and didn’t try to hide it.
5 stars for the food, 0 stars for welcome, atmosphere or service.
Go back? Probably not. There are 100’s of other great restaurants in London to choose from.
Nice restaurant, serving good fish and chips with quality wines. Slightly disappointed that the restaurant had sold out of two of the options I ordered, but understandable with fish. Pity the waitress failed to mention it though. Both waitresses who served us would benefit from some customer service training and, particularly so you don't feel they are doing you a favour by serving you at all. One of them only managed to smile when she presented the bill. Needless to say, we didn't leave a tip which we have never done before. Probably will avoid the restaurant in future based on the service we experienced and try the takeaway shop option (which had eat inside or outside) in future.
