The Seashell of Lisson Grove
Best fish and chips in London
Good selection of affordable, delicious grilled fish.
Quality of food was excellent and very good service
This is my favorite fish and chip restaurant in London. The fish is always of excellent quality and freshly cooked. Service is good and the atmosphere relaxed.
Apart from the fried fish, which was good, the other courses were mediocre. The chips with the fried fish were soggy and tasteless, and the sole was overcooked. The service was very slow and not very attentive. The decor and noise levels were fine, and, when they got a chance to give us some attention, the staff were friendly. They could do with some reinforcements, though!
Very good food with a great service i recomnendet for all
June 27th 2019.
The Cornish lemon sole was outstanding. Best fish and chips we’ve ever had -period! Not a drop of oil to be found on the fish or batter, served piping hot, beautiful delicate white flaky fish.
Prawn and avocado salad was our second favorite.
Fish cake was excellent, the poached egg topping off a delicate amalgamation of mashed potatoes, chives and citrus with 4 visible fish types.
The fried calamari was crisp and delicious, but fork tender, skip the chili sauce, it needs something more delicate. Just a squeeze of lime would suit it better.
The issue we had with The Seashell of Lisson Grove obviously wasn’t the food - but the lackluster customer service followed by equally terrible table service. The hostess did not greet us, did not smile, wasn’t at all welcoming. And the restaurant wasn’t busy - only 3 tables occupied. The server was equally inattentive and underwhelming in his manner or care. They both simply couldn’t have been bothered and didn’t try to hide it.
5 stars for the food, 0 stars for welcome, atmosphere or service.
Go back? Probably not. There are 100’s of other great restaurants in London to choose from.
Nice restaurant, serving good fish and chips with quality wines. Slightly disappointed that the restaurant had sold out of two of the options I ordered, but understandable with fish. Pity the waitress failed to mention it though. Both waitresses who served us would benefit from some customer service training and, particularly so you don't feel they are doing you a favour by serving you at all. One of them only managed to smile when she presented the bill. Needless to say, we didn't leave a tip which we have never done before. Probably will avoid the restaurant in future based on the service we experienced and try the takeaway shop option (which had eat inside or outside) in future.
Great fish and chips. Have been coming here for over 40 years. Really good, not to be missed
Visited for a quick lunch before travelling from Marylebone to Wembley Stadium for playoff final. Excellent fish and Chips. Staff pleasant and efficient. Would definitely visit again.
Great fish and chips and a friendly service too. Hidden gem before we took the tube to Wembley
Very good value and nice quality. Popular with locals and tourists alike. Just he deserves its reputation only the beer list disappoints
One of the best fish and chip spots in London as far as I'm concerned. Amazing choice of fish which can be cooked just how you like so if you want comfort food deep fried you can get it but equally able to cater for grilled fish with a salad. The restaurant has been slightly remodelled since my last visit but still a lively venue. I really recommend this venue if you love fish. Try the skate wing. It is amazing however you like it cooked.
Food is good but service isn’t.
Great fish and chips. The best!
Considering the hype, we expected a truly terrific meal, but it was truly only average. Service was a bit inattentive. In the future, we'd probably just visit the counter / take-away side of the place instead of visiting as a sit-down meal.
Excellent birthday meal. Well looked after and had a lovely table near the tropical fish tank. Was also allowed to light the candles on my birthday cake. Thank you very much for the lovely waitress for looking after us
It was a great little spot. The fish was fresh. Food came quickly and service was fine. Only Small complaint was that we asked for our bill and 15 minutes went by without receiving. We had to go up and ask to pay. Totally fine, but was a bit annoying.
The fish n chips is excellent and I have been coming here for over 40 years!
Excellent in every aspect as always. Good service, the mussels very good...
Very fond of this restaurant and its seafood is excellent.
Batter was soggy
4th time I’ve been there. I’ve been with work colleagues, clients & family now, and it has worked well for each group. The fish and chips is incredibly good, and free top up with the chips! Beer menu a tad limited. But generally v v good.
Perfect family place!
Birthday dinner with family and friends.
A bit overrated. service was not great and restaurant was empty that day. Would try a different fish and chips place next time.
Food was decent. Mine was the best, grilled salmon. The kids had friend fish and weren’t in love. It was a huge no to them that the skin was left on the fish when it was fried
On vacation but was here 25 years ago— just as good today as in past- fresh. No fishy smell. Friendly
Classically good fish and chips. The fish were fresh. I love the scampi; a must try.
I thoroughly enjoyed my evening at The Seashell of Lisson Grove. The early bird offer was particularly good value for money, I look forward to my next visit.
A casual and cozy fish and chips restaurant. Good cost performance.
After many previous visits, this was very disappointing. The chips were still very good, but the main reason for going there is the fish, and on this occasion ours was very poor. We chose the Cod, because the Halibut is no longer on the Menu. The batter was really soggy and the fish inside was very wet, and quite tasteless. It actually looked like it had been cooked earlier and then microwaved for us.
We will not be coming back.
Been coming here since the late 80's on visits to London and, in-between those 30+ times, recommended it to many. Different ownership but always among the best of its type. This time, a few hiccups included a forgotten mushy peas and out of the only GB Draught Beer (of 2 total choices). It is good, probably, for half the price, should have gotten the food in the front seafood market as takeaway and dined on a table there. At least then I would have had my peas as well as about half the cost still in my pocket.
Always great food.
As always delicious Fish and Chips. Perfectly cooked and tasty.
Claudio the Maitre D is always welcoming and friendly.
I've been going there for over 30 years.
Eaten here many times a nice assortment of fish dishes. If you live fish you will love this place. Excellent service with good food.
We went there to celebrate our last night in London, and we had a great time.
The food was amazing and the portion sizes were big, the service there was also great. It was good and easy service and the people working there really seemed to like being there, overall it was a great experience.
I would come back for dinner, even if I didn't live in the area, it was that good.
Appeared short staffed . Service slow - and food warm not hot . Fish was tasty but as it appeared it had been left a while before being brought to table - not as crispy or hot as expected .scampi was lukewarm in centre ..... unfortunately not what we had been expecting .
Only criticism - Chips should be cooked until golden. Otherwise all good.
