Food ok ! Service ????! Watched the table next to me being asked if they wanted coffee and they hadn’t been served they’re main course , there was a filming going on for an USA series called The Walking Dead , think the staff was more interested in that than the customers !! A bit overpriced for Fish & Chips !!!
Very disappointing. Soggy undercooked chips, fish just Ok, and not very welcoming service, no wonder the restaurant was empty. Shame, because it used to be so good
Excellent service and great food, as always. I had the Haddock + Chips, my colleague had the Grilled Salmon + chips. Both were cooked perfectly and were delicious, as were the bottomless chips. We also had Onion Rings, which were yummy.
This restaurant is god in many ways, its local to me so I like visiting. Unfortunately they let themselves down on the little things, e.g. invariably the chips are lukewarm as if they've been standing around for a while. The lighting is bright to fierce. On the other hand the service is attentive
Best Fish and chips in London. Good food and comfortable restaurant. Would recommend if you love eating fish.
I had middle skate and chips. The skate was good but the price was too high! The chips were really awful and full of black bits.I don’t know what potatoes u use but I advice you to change them to a more flavoursome one. They were tasteless!
My friend recommended as they serve the best F&C in London that seems true.
Consistently good. A real gem. Famously good food of course. But also friendly and helpful service.
I've been here many times before but today the service was absolutely awful. The fish is very good but the chips are an extremely small portion. They bring no sides of pickles/gherkins or mushy peas etc which are pretty standard for fish and chips restaurants! Two guests ordered cheesecake - neither of them are greedy sorts- but these portions were about a half to a third of the normal size of a cake you would expect for the price we paid. It looked like they had taken one slice and cut it into two or three portions as if they had run out! The tea was brought as hot water in cups to add our own tea bags- not how tea is made! We ended up with three cups of lukewarm water with tea bags floating in them completely unable to brew a decent strength cup of tea in the tepid water! The waiter was slow and the sides we did order arrived very late. Over all I was extremely disappointed and doubt we will be returning back anytime soon. A real shame considering we have been many times before and used to consider it one of the best fish and chips places in London.
Best fish ever, outstanding. Really superb and much enjoyed
A little bit slow to our taste (in particular to get the wine and the glasses !) but our waitress was super friendly (Italian) and we definitely enjoyed our meal ! Great fish and Chips restaurant and brace yourself to struggle with the choices !!! Can only recommend !
Friendly helpful staff. Tasty fish and very generous portions.
Excellent fish and a very good services,
The best fish meal in london. We live in South London and travel cross city to enjoy
Made a booking.. accidentally on the wrong date.. changed online but not reflected at the restaurant. Luckily not too busy. Friends went and waited at the takeaway section next door!
Food serving was MASSIVE.
Mussel pot and fish and chips... Must have.
Excellent evening I always take my dad for a treat he is 81 also he was born in that area so we always hear memorable story's about his childhood.
Busy but great skate and lemon sole great fry that keeps the fish delicacy.
We have been at this restaurant several times in the past, and it has always been a truly wonderful experience, one we looked forward to.
However, on this night, it left much to be desired. While my wife's plaice fish was very flaky and tender, both sets of chips were underdone, and my Scottish langoustines did not taste fresh at all. The staff was charming and friendly as usual, and service still very good. We left disappointed with the evening.
We were there early as had train to catch, but still a pleasant atmosphere and very much enjoyed the fish. Also enjoyed the Picpoul - nice change from Sauvignon Blanc and went very well with the fish. Very nicely decorated, good service, so most enjoyable end to day out.
Our last visit coincided with an equipment crisis in the kitchen but this time everything was back to normal. The fish we ordered, rock salmon, was grilled to perfection and the accompanying chips/salad equally delicious. The waiters were efficient and friendly and the atmosphere of the restaurant, although quite full, was relaxing.
The Seashell continues to provide great fish and chips, and more. I have had take-out from them for years, but never dined in the dining room. I had the same as I would get to take away, but there is more to choose from if you don't fancy battered fish or skate or whatever.
Their portions are generous, and their chips are real potato (as opposed to frozen chips which are ubiquitous and really not good at all). Their mushy peas are perfect. We had a broccoli side dish and it was huge - enough for at least 3 people. There was no room for dessert.
If you want good fish, and good chips, go to the Seashell.
Order the delicious calamari appetizer! The fish & chips were good, too.
Thoroughly enjoyed my dining experience at The Seashell of the Lisson Grove. The chips were perfect, crispy on the outside and fluffy in the middle. Portion sizes were decent and generous. Possibly the best fish and chips I have had in London so would not hesitate to go again.
Fantastic evening and perfect service and the freshest food. So fresh they'd run out of a couple of dishes and I'd been really looking forward to some lobster. But it was a Saturday night and they close Sunday so understandable. I'll pre-order next time.
And the lemon sole was amazing. Also fun to find a proper Maitre D' you could talk to.
chosen because of proximity to Marylebone so we could eat before the adele concert .Expected better.
Excellent with good wholesome food and very friendly service at a good value cost.
A bizarre visit to a normally excellent restaurant. The kitchen was experiencing manifold difficulties in equipment failure. No grills were available and only about 20%/25% of the menu was available but only fried fish was available. This caused a degree of panic and frustration on the part of the waiters having to keep saying no to customers. The restaurant should not have opened under the circumstances. A sad occasion for this once proud restaurant.
The Sea Shell is a classic fish spot with both takeaway in the front and dining in the rear. The decor is somewhat plain, bordering Art Deco, but has a certain charm to it. We've been going here for 15+ years, usually eating in, while doing the rounds at Alfie's down the street.
Service is generally good, if it is not crowded and we've never needed a reservation. One of the claims to fame is this was Liz Taylor's fav spot for seafood; considering her expanding girth back in the day, it may be an indication of the quality and quantity of the eats.
There is a wide selection of fish and variety of preparations available, all fresh and enjoyable.
Overall, one of our must visit spots in London.
Absolutely fabulous food. Known for their fish and chips, we opted for their restaurant behind the chippy. Probably the best haddock I've eaten. Wow.
Pleasant, friendly atmosphere with helpful service. The food was very good, with the exception of the chips, which were a bit tired. The wine list is reasonably priced and the overall value for money is good.
Traditional fish and chips of the best quality but also a range of other interesting fish dishes and a reasonably priced wine list. Good, friendly service in pleasant surroundings.
Only perfect. The bedt fish&chip in London
if only they could get their act together. Last time I reviewed the service was just all over the place, this time it was brilliant! The food however left a lot to be desired! A bland fish pie filled with a variety of strange things, fish in soggy batter and the now famed barely warm chips. What is it about a fish restaurant that can't get fish and chips right?
The lighting, which i have written of on many occasions i now find can be dimmed so its not like eating in a television set but you have to ask.
The fish is excellent. Chips could have been hotter and crispier. New potatoes in dill & butter sauce were excellent. Not sure about our seating in the goldfish bowl as it were; I would have preferred a window seat. Staff were very together and friendly. White Chatila is recommended and fairly priced.
Go for the apple dessert over the spotted dick.
The usual standard of quality cooking served quickly and efficiently and sensible prices. Jut two quibbles: can understand your waiter asking the mundane superfluous question 'everything alright' but cannot see the need for every waiter and waitress in the restaurant coming over and asking the same inane question. Secondly, take some cash with you as they do not accept tips being added to the bill if paying by card
Excellent "Fish anc chips" in a nice restaurant. Recommend it!
Good and nice service. Try it if you want "fish and chips".
Simply the best!
Very good food and service. But we had fish and chips so let's not get carried away.
Classic fish & chips. Not to be missed. Convenient to Madame Toussaud's if you're in London as a tourist
Fabulous fresh fish and chips at its best in a very pleasant restaurant with good choice of wines and less than 5 minutes from Marylebone station
