The Shepherd and Dog
We want you to enjoy our warm welcome whether you join us for a lovely dinner in the evening, a great value weekday lunch or the perfect Sunday roast.
Superb food, great atmosphere and service was friendly and of a high standard.
I visited again this weekend for a evening meal it was a little noisy or me but I was given a different table which helped the first cocktail we had came in wrong glass and was only half full this was changed but not to the usual standards the prawn starter was very nice and the main of Chateau Bre And was delicious as was the chocolate Brownie staff were not great this evening spilled cocktails but new members need to give time to train I always like the Shepard and will return but this evening experience was let down by service but I will return
Good all round. Cocktails came tasting quiet different to the last batch. None bad but prefer consistency for £10 a go.
Food and service amazing.
Went here for date night with my husband and ordered the 'large sea bass fillet with bacon croquette'. When it arrived the sea bass was barely big enough for a chilled and so dry! The bacon croquette was dark brown and tasted like oil! Such a shame as the food here used to be lovely. Very disappointed.
Great atmosphere and even better food and cocktails, would recommend this place to everyone!
The food was well presented, but nothing special; service was adequate but not brilliant; highly priced for modest quality; the noise level was such that it was difficult to hear oneself speak. Gave the impression of a TOWIE venue.
Nice new cocktail the Berry Pie was excellent the main was nice but item missing which came late
Also long wait for our Irish’s coffee service was not up to usual standards but good experience
Friendly staff, good overall service will definitely return and recommend to friends and family.
Went with the family for Father’s Day, was busy but staff good and nice atmosphere. Food was great
Lovely evening meal for me and my boyfriend, defo be coming back soon
I’m really torn - I’ve been several times but never on a Sunday before and I’ve always enjoyed it
On Sunday I really didn’t enjoy the experience - I’ve never been anywhere so noisy and that was before the singer started his set - we literally had to shout across the table at each other if we wanted to speak - my fault entirely for not checking but I don’t wish to sit eating my food with somebody singing close by - I actually felt like I was at a butlins - In saying that the roast dinners were excellent - really tasty and I enjoyed mine immensely - I like the shepherd & dog but just not for me on a Sunday
Food was ok - quite nice, my husbands starter was forgotten we had to ask for it and when it came it was cleary rushed and a smaller portion - (my friends husband had the same)
Service was fine, bar area was nice and the atmosphere was good.
New starter a special on menu was the sliders which were excellent along with the lamb chops 3 on plate good size nice and pink fish and chips as always was excellent and a white chocolate cream brûlée’s couple of beery fizz cocktails again superb and a large Irish coffee all on point service is friendly a regular for me always on point nice traditional English fair recommended
While the food was very good, it was very noisy, also the service wasn’t very good and had to ask for our main meal. They seemed more interested in the big table.
Great place to eat staff amazing
We've been to the S&D a lot in the past four years but it has really gone downhill. We had a table for seven of us on Saturday night for a friend's birthday. We were crammed into a tiny space only really big enough for a table for four. Because of the amount of people crammed into the space the noise level is unbelievably high making it hard to even talk to the person next to me.
I had called ahead to say it was my friend's birthday and they said they would bring something out for us to sing to him, I reminded them when we arrived as well but nothing materialised so it just got left which was disappointing.
The food we ordered was nice but £32 for a steak really is taking the p**s! The menu is very limited and pretty basic as well. It's a shame as we don't have that many choices of nice pubs in the area.
Think they need to extend the menu and take out a few tables to allow for space to sit comfortably.
Food is always very good thought menu needed more to choose from on the main course staff excellent drinks very good always a good time at the Shepherd and dog
Visited on Sunday evening and thoroughly enjoyed the food and the ambience it is quite a lively place but I thought that added to the atmosphere guess if your after a quiet meal then perhaps this isn’t for you but if your looking for a good vibe and scrumptious food then The Shepherd and Dog is just the ticket ;)
Always has a great atmosphere here - and food never disappoints.
We have been a few times and sampled different food. The food is always amazing, top quality and the vibe is buzzing, love it here, took our kids for our anniversary and my sons birthday meal, made it very special.
Cant wait to return!!!
Birthday lunch was delicious
Food was delicious . They had a singer who had a great voice but found it a little loud whilst eating.
Yes, it was very nice food and yes the service was good but I found it to be extremely expensive for what it was. A little too TOWIE for me I'm afraid! Very presumptuous of the waiter as well in terms of a tip. 3 of my party paid by card and 2 of us in cash. We split the bill 5 ways and added a tip and the waiter presumed that the difference between the bill and what we paid him was his tip. I would have preferred to have been given all our change and left the tip afterwards. An easy presmpiption to make I know in view of the circumstances but even so, a little cheeky! It also took quite a long time for the starter to arrive.
I have dined here many times, recently the service has really gone down hill.
We were sat down for around 15 min before someone came to take our order. We ordered drinks, of which only one turned up. We chased the missing drink up with two different people, third time of asking we finally got it. The waitress was very apologetic and resolved the issue.
We were also almost given another tables food before we stopped the waiter.
Food was burnt and greasy with no taste at all. Waiter was kind but for the price of the food, definitely not worth it. Gone down hill.
Had a lovely lunch with my daughter and my husband. Everyone is always very attentive and the food is always good - and 2 courses for under £20 you can’t go wrong.
Great food and service as always . Never fails to deliver.
Kept waiting at reception, kept waiting to order food had to go to the bar to say we were ready to order food. When food arrived they had got it wrong so it was sent back to the kitchen, when food came back 1 of the meals had an ingredient missing when it was pointed out to waiter were told they had run out of it the other meal was of a quality that would have been bettered by any local cafe. This was a meal to celebrate my 70th Birthday and the restaurant was empty so it was not as if they were overrun. Extremely disappointed
Our first visit on a Saturday evening and definitely wouldn’t recommend it for diners. Too loud, too rushed and busy. The food was ok although 2 choices for mains on the a la carte menu were unavailable. Midweek or lunch in future.
good food great atmosphere great for special occasions and overall a lovely place.
Visit the shepherd and dog on many occasions food is always on point great friendly service varied menu great local gastro pub highly recommend
Food was brilliant
But service and atmosphere was appalling .
Went for birthday , didn’t even say happy birthday !!
The customer service was second to none .
Quite pricey food was very good one waitress liked to pass the food instead of coming round the table
Been here few times recently. Food is of high standard although not cheap I feel the pricing on the whole is reasonable Maybe a couple of the starters are overpriced(calamari for example) But the whole experience is always enjoyable.
The food and service was good as always but with live singing with backing tracks from the bar area pumped up to loud it was far too noisy in the restaurant and had to shout to be heard which spoilt it .
Management should choose between noisy almost empty bar area or comfortable eating with good background music maybe cranked up later
Been here many times and always a good meal, a little expensive but good food and good service.
5 friends for a Xmas lunch. Quite expensive for 2/3 course set menu but was nice. Good staff & was able to reserve a table in the bar area for after meal.
Overall, The whole experience was lovely. The food and service was excellent but it is quite expensive and twice we were told the table was rebooked out. These 2 hour time slots are very frustrating especially when you are dining with friends, you don’t want to get rushed. We left the table and got a table in the bar, and was then told that was reserved.
Gods menu and very friendly staff definitely recommend
Sadly, a night littered with excuses, errors and mistakes. From drinks orders to desserts, wrong food brought to the table, or items missing. A string of apologies from well meaning staff. Final straw was a cracked and chipped dessert glass. 15% of the bill won't gloss over the fact they are struggling on all fronts. A real shame. At least the taxi we ordered turned up promptly!
