Could have just done with an extra 30 mins for the table. The staff were lovely and gave us a table in a room off the bar to finish our wine however the room was freezing so we did last long before we finished our wine and left. Food was delicious and we tried all the wines suggested for each course. It was my partners birthday and they surprised him with a birthday pudding which was lovely. Staff all very friendly!
We booked a table for two around two months ago as a birthday meal. We were first seated in a side room which was cold and unpleasant. We asked to be seated in the main restaurant which a table became available after 15 mins. Our food was good but not very hot. Table service was very good. Heating needs to be turned up a bit
Staff were really good and accommodating. Would be good to have some music in the outside area, but food and drinks good and will definitely be back!
A bit disappointed with the outside areas really. No blankets very little heat from parasol heater, wet chairs and no cushions just wicker chairs would have expected more from the star. Love it here usually but feel like they need to up their standard outside to compete with others in York
Outstanding restaurant! Memorable night. Wine list fabulous
Waitress who served us couldn't be helpful enough. Felt safe and rules were strictly followed even when we wanted baileys in our coffee we weren't allowed without ordering puddings. (Which is only a good thing) food was nice. Not amazing so I would say very pricey for food and drinks but it was just lovely to be out! Heat lamps could have thrown out a bit more heat though. Felt more like an orange LED
We had a lovely meal and thoroughly enjoyed our evening. I think our waitress was called Hattie, she was lovely and couldn’t have been more accommodating.
Thank you for a brilliant meal in such strange times.
Lovely post Christmas meal as a family
Service was really quick our waitress was super polite and the food was delicious me and my girlfriend enjoyed it very much
Really good normal food, not pretentious and a decent price. Would recommend the yorkshire puddings for starters.
Due to covid restrictions we sat outside. This is one of the few places you can book outside with outdoor heating! Excellent service and staff were incredibly polite and helpful. Great atmosphere even when outside helped by a flurry of snow!! Will definitely return with friends and family.
The food was very well presented. I had the Turkey and trimmings and it tasted beautiful.. Disappointed with the choice of desserts.. Service was disappointing.
Went for a Xmas Eve Eve family meal. The food was delicious and all of us enjoyed our choices. We had a round table at the end of the main room so easy to talk and hear each other. The waiters were great; really patient and attentive. It’s such a beautiful setting by the river and my favourite special meal out restaurant in York.
Amazing food and staff. Would definitely recommend to anyone. We sat outside in December, it was warm and didn't feel like winter.
Outstanding food, outstanding service and outstanding setting all done with excellent COVID compliance xx
A really lovely place to eat with very attentive staff. A nice atmosphere with other diners in. Food was excellent and really reasonable price for the quality that we were served. On the whole I would give it a 10/10.
The food was tasty but elements of the courses were not very warm. The staff were polite and efficient. I felt comfortable with the COVID procedures in place. The atmosphere was relaxed and I was able to take my time over the meal. I looked out over Museum Gardens
I rarely give reviews but this experience was so far away to what i expected that feel i need to say something. Visited this restaurant as a treat for an anniversary because it was in the Good Food Guide and because we have been to its sister restaurant in Harome. The food was good by pub standards but disappointing compared to other restaurants i have visited from the GFG and it doesn't even bear comparison for quality of food, service and ambience with its sister in Harome which is in a completely different league. At over £120 for two (that is sharing a starter and dessert) it seems very pricey for its offering. Service was very average which makes me wonder if their fixed 12.5% service charge policy doesn't motivate great service. Drinks took too much time to come. No questions about food that we left and no offer to replace or adjust the bill. Oysters in stout just didn't work for either of us, we love oysters with the usual vinegar and shallots but we found these inedible and left most of them. My wife had to pick out the crunchy crushed seeds from the salmon starter. The main course pork was luke warm and the accompanying warm mayonnaise cabbage dish didn't go well against the richness of the belly pork. The dessert was uninspiring and the decaf coffee i had was incredibly bitter. On the plus side the partner wine recommendations were very good. I'm afraid to say I wouldn't go there again any time soon - plenty of better offerings out there
Have been here a few times and always have a lovely time. Food and staff great and in this strange time always feel safe.
Beautiful food, great experience and can’t wait to visit again.
Excellent service and food during difficult times.
Lovely setting. Attentive service. Good food. Wonderful pre-Christmas treat.
Great experience
Lovely friendly service, would come back again on the near future.
Food was okay, nothing special. Starter and main lacked seasoning. It was a pleasant enough experience but definitely not memorable. Some of the things we had were very over priced.
Fantastic food, lovely setting and very friendly and attentive staff
We came for my birthday .. the waitress was fab and she made me and my party feel very relaxed. Great social distancing in place
Amazing meal, couldn’t recommend any higher. Loved it.
What a fabulous treat magical and festive amazing food 3 generations at our table and we all loved it. The staff are amazing
My starter of mushroom risotto was Luke warm.
My steak was over cooked as I asked for medium to well.
Lovely relaxing meal. Beautiful food friendly staff, willie going back.
Just generally disappointing. I have been a number of times before, and felt let down on this occasion.
The food is absolutely amazing, the service is second to none and the location is perfect. Do not be put off by the price of some of the dishes. It is worth every penny
Food was outstanding!! Service staff lovely ☺️ can’t wait to return!
Amazing food in a lovely setting A+++
Thank you a lovely lunch, good service. The fish and chips were delicious
Considering the current situation we find ourselves in, my wife and I were pleasantly surprised at how well the staff made it feel like normal!
I love The Star. Great food. Was very good even outside although it got a little cold a bit later in the afternoon. Service was great as well.
I met a few friends outside for breakfast in the heated terrace. It was perfect. The staff were helpful and attentive. The food was excellent and the venue was ideal. We really enjoyed it and will be returning.
Visited for breakfast, food was really nice, service was really good and an all round lovely atmosphere.
