We had a booking for 8:30, which is late to eat for me usually but I wanted to fit in a Ghost walk first. This meant that the restaurant really emptied out quickly while we were eating. You could say the service was excellent, super efficient but it felt a bit rushed to us. There was little time between courses and we’d all but done within an hour.
The food however was amazing, I really enjoyed every dish. Every staff member we spoke to were happy, friendly and knowledgeable about every aspect of the bar/menu.
Overall I enjoyed my meal and maybe eating so late was the cause of my comparing my experience in Harome “Star” to the city “Star”.

The waitress took our food order before we had even ordered drinks.
She was polite but would have liked a drink first.
As we booked for a Sunday I was very disappointed they had run out of Sunday lunch, not great planning,
All our food was highly seasoned far too much salt especially on my sons chips which were nearly inedible because of all the salt.
Pudding choice is very poor, we gave it a miss,
Not sure I would rush back when there is so much choice in York.
Overall fairly average !

We went to the Star Inn the City for our wedding anniversary. From start to finish it was a great experience. We plan to call in for breakfast the next time we are in York and also for a Sunday Lunch. Keep up the good work.

Excellent quality and value for money - but service was too fast ( says 2 hour turn-around - it could have been 1 hour!) and main course too large.

A good priced menu with a couple of options for mains. The food could have been hotter and the steak dish lacked seasoning. The strawberry dessert was delicious.

Went for the Daily Special but was disappointed with the beef which was suppose to be Fillet Tail but was overcooked, stringy and tough. Being a butcher's daughter I was skeptical as it dd not eat or taste like fillet in anyway.
The chicken starter with chick peaswas was quite skimpy as well.
Having eaten at the Star at Harome many times I was quite shocked it was so different.

Very disappointed with the value of the afternoon tea

Total unbalanced of sandwich to cakes(far to many) for the price

Found a hair in the cakes the waitress changed them but put you off them anyway
Waitress came back with the excuse it was a sugar strand which it clearly wasn't very disappointing for a Mitchellin restraunt

Excellent evening meal with high standard of food & wide variety of drinks on offer. I had an allergy I had informed the restaurant about beforehand & they handled this with no trouble at all. Great service. The location was also easy to find. scenery either water front or facing museum gardens were lovely. Would recommend!

Booked on open table some weeks ago and asked for a quiet table as it was our wedding anniversary, however we were simply placed at the end of a row of cushion benched tables with no real privacy. In all honesty the seating reminded me of the Ivy which are far too close together. Appreciate you need to get customers in but it wasnt that busy on Sunday evening and obviously our request through yourselves was unsuccessful. That said food was good as was service, you just let us down on our special occasion!

Lovely place to eat, first visit for my 60th Birthday, have been to Whitby on a few ocasions so that was why decided to try York . Delicious food, good service, nice wine. Was very warm, could have done with some aircon, or it turning up. Staff did say it was a really warm place to sit, but was told I could pull the curtain across which I did. Shame to lose the view but it was still a very enjoyable experience

Good selection of choices for meats not so for fish dishes. Excellent starters and desserts. Sunday lunch roast options large in quantity, smaller sized crispier roasted potatoes would have been better and 2 shallots unnecessarily large would have been better exchanged for roasted parsnips or seasonal vegetables. Some of the carrots were woody too. More gravy would have been welcome.
Gluten free , dairy free catered for but options eliminate items and don’t offer replacements yet still charge the same price.. Disappointing.

The only Andrew Pern establishment we hadn't yet visited didn't disappoint. On a heaving, hot, August Saturday, the staff remained unflappable and our waitress (Eleanor?) was delightful and very helpful. The service was excellent and we were impressed by the attention paid to my daughters strict vegan requirements, the only letdown being the lack of a suitable dessert! Delicious food and a friendly atmosphere will definitely see us heading back for another occasion. Just hope the soon to open competition a short way along the river doesn't cause problems.

Great food and the staff are very welcomeing. This was for my wife's 40th birthday and we weren't disappointed. They brought out a special pudding plate with happy birthday writing on it. I would recommend this restaurant to everyone. It's a shame we live in Newcastle so we can't visit more regular.

Friday evening visit so busy with a good atmosphere. The food is mediocre and therefore not good value for money.
Yorkshire puddings were crispy all the way through- too much.
Sea bass was a small portion and just a bit dull, friend had a pasta dish she couldn’t eat.
Whilst our food was a bit boring, the majority of the menu seems to be very experimental with lots of different flavours in the dishes which can be overwhelming and sometimes a little odd.
Good service and atmosphere- best to come and enjoy a drink on the terrace.

We went here for my birthday
We wanted to sit on the terrace & had requested this but they don’t serve meals outside on a Sunday evening!
However our waiter was very nice, the food was good & they gave me a platter with macaroons & a happy Birthday message which was nice
