Service was excellent as usual. It is a great view. River if one side and park if the other. The food was good although the menu has changed a lot since we last went and seemed to be fewer items to chose from.
The burger I had was excellent and they have coke zero.

My girlfriend and I decided to eat here for our anniversary (of being together for a year, not married). I requested in advance for a window seat and they gave us a perfect table. The food was absolutely brilliant and to top it all off the restaurant went out of their way to make our evening a memorable one by surprising us with a bowl of brownies and strawberries decorated with the words ‘Happy Anniversary’ in chocolate sauce, a very touching surprise. I would 100% reccomend this restaurant. Lovely staff, lovely food, chilled atmosphere and just overall a fantastic meal. Thank you Star Inn the City and to our waitress for the evening, (I think her name was Lucy) we will definitely be coming back!!

A lovely place to sit and talk with family. Food was superb and plentiful, with great wines. The service was very good and at just the right tempo - we weren't rushed or left too long. Overall, an extemely good experience. Would thoroughly recommend.

Lovely place to celebrate a special occasion at. We took our 6 month old along and the staff were more than accommodating to our needs. Amazing food!!

We are planning to visit the other restaurants around Yorkshire. Thanks Star Inn The City for a brilliant afternoon 😃

Lovely meal on our last night in York.
Lovely setting by the river.
Food was excellent - I had two starters as I was worried I may not be able to finish a main course.
Chicken parfait was 1st class with wonderful flavours, would have liked more bread !
Whitby crab was also delicious and a good portion. My husband had the beef which was meltingly good.
Excellent value and good service from staff.
Highly recommended and will definitely be back when we are next in York.

Beautiful meal in a lovely riverside setting. Great and friendly service - nothing was too much trouble but there was no stuffiness. The menu had plenty of choice. My only criticism is that there was far too much pâté and crab for the amount of bread provided. However our waiter brought more bread when requested. Every item was individually delicious and each plate provided a nicely balanced course. I’ll be back

Waited an hour in between starter and main course
The Sunday lunch was very poor with one slice of beef which was chewy and fatty

I was with my mum as a celebration for her 84th birthday. We had booked a table asking as a special request to sit by the window. We were given a bad table which backed very close to the table behind. Hence I was knocked into. My jacket fell on the floor. Basically interrupted all through my lunch. I did ask the waiter if we could move. He said unfortunately not. It did spoil my day. Especially as I had asked as a special treat if we could have a window table.
The meal was good. My Sunday lunch wasn't very warm and my mum's fish was quite fatty.
Service was excellent. Lovely waiter.
The waiter did say if I go again he will ensure we get a better table.

Spent a very relaxed evening celebrating my wife's birthday.
It was quite a quiet evening with probably half the tables available, however the staff paced the service well and were familiar with all aspects of the menu.
The food was excellent and I was surprised that the portion size was generous with no loss of quality. Roll on my birthday!!

Really lovely gem of a restaurant by the river. We decided on a fairly impromptu evening out on Monday in York and were recommended to try The Star Inn. The food was delicious, the staff very attentive and courteous and we had a really lovely evening in beautiful surroundings. Highly recommend and I’m sure we’ll be back when next in York. Thank you!

Service was friendly but a little slow, although perhaps to be expected as it was a Saturday early evening so quite busy. We were eating pre theatre and had allowed two hours, however we had to rush eating our main course as it took so long to come and so unfortunately had no chance of dessert. Slightly disappointed in the reduced menu which did not give a great deal of choice for starters, however overall the food was good and very tasty. Unfortunately two of our party ordered the fish from the special menu and the portions of fish were far too small plus the roasted veg ordered with it was overdone. However I had the the duck and it was delicious as was the broccoli I had with it. I’d go again but perhaps at a slightly later time to give ourselves more time to enjoy the atmosphere.

We were given vouchers by my sister last July and waited longer than expected for our special treat (as the kitchen had sadly suffered a fire). However our evening in this beautiful Brasserie in York was certainly worth waiting for!
The staff are very pleasant, obliging and attentive. The food was excellent - we look forward to returning in the near future.

We’ve been here several times and the food has always been good.
The service this time was very poor. Staff ignoring customers so they could chat amongst themselves. Had to get up from the table and go to the bar to order my drinks because the staff were there chatting. No service tip left this time and we won’t be going back anytime soon. Very disappointing.

We were invited out by a friend as a thank you for letting her stay. This was recommended by a colleague and was an excellent choice. We had an early evening meal, with 2 shared goats cheese starters between four, to save our appetite for the main courses. Everyone was happy with their choices, although our hostess regretted that the cottage pie was only available on the children’s menu. Three of us managed desserts, first time I have had a Sundae for many years! Two bottles of wine left us content and we enjoyed views over the river with the bat crews practising.

Superb food. In a super setting. The most special starter of beef tartare. Just perfect. Hubby had the crab. Nice(but not as nice as mine!). Followed by beef fillet with a wild mushroom sauce and the see bream. Both cooked to perfection. nothing was too much trouble for the staff. Friendly and attentive. Will definitely return when in York again.
