The Swan Hotel
Met family for an evening meal on a Friday. It was busy but the staff coped quite well, was polite and accommodating, although I felt they could have had more help. The food was very good, although portion sizes were on the small side. Would definitely recommend.
Location is easy to get to, plenty of parking. Friendly staff and amazing food.
Ambience and decor is lacking slightly but I am sure that will evolve with time.
Burgers lovely great service nothing too much trouble
The food experience was extremely poor.....the burger meat tasted very odd and the meat was compacted and solid....i think it was cooked in old oil...chips were wet and soft....the fish and chips did not fare better.....we were tired and hungry after a long drive....had we known it was this bad we would have made the effort to go elsewhere....in addition the dining area wasn't particularly clean and the windows needed a very good wash.....we simply would
not ever come here again.....
We were here for an evening out whilst staying at the hotel next door . The food was fantastic really fresh and tasty my husband said the batter on the fish was amazing light and crispy and very tasty . The chips were out of this world chunky and not fatty at all .
My husband had the pistachio meringue with blood orange sorbet which he said was fabulous he isn’t a pudding person but couldn’t recommend it enough .
The staff were lovely really friendly helpful polite and professional .
We would love to go again
I have eaten at The Swan many times before but unfortunately not when booked on this occasion through OpenTable as your booking didn't go through !!!!
Lovely food and cheerful waiters but the waiter didn't know how to add a tip onto the bill so I think the hotel not the staff got the tip!
On arrival at specified time, we were inform there was no booking under the name of Ball. On showing confirmation on my phone I was informed it was not on their system and as they were fully booked they could not accommodate us. No further help was given so basically we were shown the door. This spoiled the night out as at that late hour there was nowhere else to go!!
We had an enjoyable Sunday lunch. The portions for the large lunch were enormous!
Really nice to have plenty of nice veg.
We would definitely go back.
The service was very good and the food although on the pricey side was very tasty and sufficient to fill.
Unfortunately we were let down with the on line booking - which the staff appeared to know nothing about - and when our friends turned up before we did, they were told that there was no table booked for us. However, they did manage to find us a table.
Staff were extremely helpful in accommodating four adults, two toddlers and a baby. Patient and friendly approach. Food was of an excellent quality too.
After a three hour frantic drive from Derbyshire, we arrived late and were met by accommodating friendly staff who immediately made us welcome and comfortable. we were two of a posse of five all coming to Bristol for a schools hockey national event and so arrived at different times. Food was served promptly and was delicious, table side manner was attentive without being distracting and we all left feeling that the journey had ended well and with a hearty meal set us up for the following day of watching the girls hockey tournament.
Our meal was well presented and tasted nice. The waiting staff were attentive without being a disturbance. Will use this venue you again
Good food. Very helpful staff. Although they didn't recognise the open table booking they found us a table for a party of 7 and even managed to russle up a passable espresso martini from a YouTube video recipe. :)
The second time only that we have eaten at The Swan but we have been very impressed on both occasions and will certainly be visiting you again. Thank you for your excellent service and food.
Busy Sunday lunchtime. Food was delicious and promptly served by very friendly staff. Drinks are reasonably priced and beer is well kept.
Lived in Almondsbury for much of my adolescent life and would not have used the Swan for much then (1970s). I was looking for a place for lunch with my wife and daughter, en route from Cardiff to Bristol Airport, so The Swan fitted the bill and was much improved on my childhood.
They enjoyed the Monkfish, and I the roast pork. Roasted items (potatoes & parsnips) could have been better roasted and more flavoursome, but all in all it was a good meal
I have very poor hearing. Therefore, I liked that the dining area was carpeted and had lower ceilings - means that it is quieter and that there is less sound resonance (a real problem with pubs and restaurants these days as hard floors and wall surfaces abound). It would have been great if there was a way of silencing the 'piped music' which for a person with bad hearing is like tinnitus, masking other sounds
Staff were friendly and helpful. We enjoyed our visit, thank you.
Booked online and when we got there they didn't have our booking. My husband wanted mash with his steak rather than chips and was told by the waitress they didn't do mash. Chips were of varying shapes and sizes and looked like someone had taken an axe to the potato. The steak on the other hand was beautiful and cooked exactly as we had asked. Was the meal and the overall experience worth nearly £50 for 2 steak meals and a pint and half of lager I am not sure!!
Pricey good food let down by presentation and inappropriate service.
We were looking for a spot at the M4/M5 junction to meet family - The Swan was in the perfect spot, and the food and service were excellent. They also had a very good (and entertainingly presented) children's menu.
We visited for a family meal to celebrate my birthday. Our age range was from 6 months to 85 years and we all enjoyed it thoroughly.
Our waitress on the evening was lovely, very helpful and attentive without being overbearing, food delicious, the best steak I've had in a long time.
Good food and service from a venue within quick and easy access of the M4/M5 junction near Bristol. We visited for Sunday lunch, when the venue was busy, obviously popular, but for us too noisy and with an outlook onto a main road.
Our first visit to The Swan. Welcome was excellent, and staff attentive throughout our visit -although a new server seemed unsure of menu content & wine list! Food arrived reasonably quickly, and nicely presented, although my partners offering seemed to lack vegetables! My 'Chicken/Chorizo Burger', although nicely presented (I am never sure why food is expected to be eaten off a 'bread board!), turned out to be a breast of chicken rather than a 'Burger' as described on the menu!
Would consider another visit.
Really good food, Attentive staff. Arrived as 1st ones there in empty restaurant at 19.00 and ate eventually at 21.00. Children missed their train back to Cardiff. No explanation as to the delay but many tables concerned about the delay.Told it is just the usual friday night- so some reservation about returning
An exceptional New Year's Eve feast complete with lovely costumed staff, unusual and scrumptious food. An unexpected great time. Well done. We will be back even if it is 20 miles from home. Happy New Years Milords and Ladies.
I took my wife and my mother out for a Sunday lunch and chose the Swan Hotel based on previous reviews. We were welcomed by very friendly staff and the service was efficient and without unnecessary delays. The quality of the food was very good indeed and every need was catered for. Well done the Swan Hotel - we will be returning.
some problems withh food - but good service and quickly sorted out.
A very pleasant restaurant very friendly staff and good atmosphere. We have passed this pub/restaurant many times and have never been in. We booked our table through "book a table" on line and were very pleasantly surprised. The food was excellent! Our compliments to the chef
Lovely staff, so considerate with our new born baby, would love to go back!
We booked into the Almondsbury Interchange Hotel for a night and then looked for a nearby restaurant for our evening meal. Looking on the map we noticed the Swan Hotel was nearby. In fact it turned out to be next door! The dining reviews were good, we could walk to it and so we booked a table. It later turned out we were able to use our TasteCard for a 50% reduction in the cost of our food which was even better! But that aside, the meal was excellent value even at full price and the service was very good too. We didn't have to wait long for our food which was sumptuous and the waitress was very attentive. We will need to stay in Bristol again and will have no hesitation in repeating this experience.
On arrival met by waiter who took us to our table.our meal was ordered with the help of the waiter who was really up to speed with the menu.the food was spot on and ample portions.timing between courses good even though restaurant was busy.my wife and I had a very enjoyable evening.possibly a little background music would help with the ambience
A favourite haunt when visiting my mother-in-law in Bristol. She's a VERY fussy, very elderly lady and it's been difficult to find a restaurant that she hasn't found fault with! Thank goodness for The Swan. We had a wide range of food between us; I'm a definite carnivore, my wife is a vegetarian and MiL I've covered. We didn't have room for a dessert after a lovely starter and generous main dish, so I still haven't made more than the first two dishes so far; maybe next time. I recommend getting a Swan Hotel VIP Card as it gives you a 20% discount on food, making it even better. I also like their good range of beers so need to persuade my wife to drive next time so I can give them a proper try!
I had a very nice meal and the staff were vety attentive which marks out the Swan from other pubs/restaurants in the area. The person I was with has a wheat intolerance which can make make the menu difficult to chose from. But this was not a problem because the waitress quickly reassured us and presentedted a menu for special diets. The food was very good, the atmosphere just right and the staff couldn't have done more.
This was our third visit to The Swan Hotel and the standard was as high as ever. My (very fussy 92 year old) Mother-in-law had the goats cheese starter, as did my wife, why I went for the pork medley. If you like meat this is a great starter. For main my wife had one of the vegetarian options, whilst M-i-L & I opted for the gammon. All the food was beautifully cooked and the chips were HOT. There was a wedding reception on at the same time and the staff coped beautifully with both 'ordinary' customers and those at the reception. Good wine, very reasonably priced plus some excellent (real) beer choices. As we live in London we only get to The Swan when visiting M-i-L in Bristol. If you like good food go to The Swan.
Enjoyed good food in the sun! Quick service, great range of beers and a very tasty burger.
Experience overall was good. We enjoyed the food and service. I would say however the venue decor is in need of a facelift and it was so dark over our table it was hard reading the menu. More suitable for pub meal that special occasion food.
A good menu, large portion sizes, no obvious children's menu but prices good so you didn't feel too bad about paying full price. A good selection of games to keep children occupied too.
We were a party of 4 of which one was a coeliac. The staff were very helpful in liaising with the chef and there was actually a proper pudding that was gluten free which doesn't happen very often. They had run out of fillet steak so we were offered a complimentary drink. The food was very well presented and was of a good quality. We will definitely return.
Four of us tried the Swan Hotel for the first time and all were pleased with the experience. There was a large group in one section of the restaurant which delayed our starter slightly but the attentive staff kept us informed.
The menu is straightforward and the food is presented very well in sensible portions and at prices that allow you to think about a starter or dessert -or both.
Our only comment if there is one is that on an exceptionally cold night in an old building it began to get uncomfortable seated next to the window. I'm sure the majority of milder evenings wouldn't pose this problem.
Overall, good staff, tasty, well prepared and presented food; an enjoyable evening.
I've gotta say that the food was superb, well mannered and friendly staff, the only thing that let them down was the lack of choice on the menu. Aside from that all round thumbs up from me. If you have a dessert, go with the sticky toffee pudding its a winner.
