The Swan Inn - Swinbrook
We have dined several times over the years at The Swan Inn- Swinbrook. This was the first time seated in the back room which lacks the coziness of the front room and feels sterile. I must say the starters of chicken liver pate and a salmon pate were miserly. The salmon pate was tasty however was nearly a liquid rather than pate. We both had fish and chips one with pea puree as it is served the other with greens instead. My husband’s arrived without any vegetable at all so thankfully there was not too long a wait for his pea pure to arrive . However the fish was soggy and overly greasy without any seasoning whatsoever and the pureed peas were again nearly a liquid served in the tiniest of pots imaginable. This was not good value for money at all and we were very disappointed.
We had a superb meal. The specials were amazing, perfectly cooked scallops with chorizo and the venison for the main. Really delicious.
The pub is lovely, very cosy areas, service was good & non intrusive, the food was presented well & very tasty, just the right amount & a reasonable price for the quality. Am looking forward to taking more friends & visitors. A great 1st time experience.
We took American guests to the Swan and they greatly enjoyed the atmosphere, the history and the food. We all enjoyed ourselves and the staff looked after us brilliantly. Thank you.
Lovely situation, lovely food, lovely service! The Swan is a wonderful historic property which is beautifully kept - will hopefully be back!
VERY GOOD FOOD - ESPECIALLY THE HAKE AND RISOTTO AND VERY FRIENDLY SERVICE. WE'LL DEFINITELY BE BACK.
The best place for lunch on a sunny day. Delicious food, beautiful surroundings and great staff.
We both enjoyed a light lunch - two different starters each - and were healthy meals without upsetting our diets! The Swan is in a lovely position and we have been there many times and never disappointed. Staff are always kind and courteous and always have a kind welcome and a dog biscuit for my little dog which is one of the reasons why we keep returning! - we will be back again soon!
Fantastic food in a beautiful, interesting setting. Let down by the very poor service e.g constantly chasing up drink orders, food arriving at 20 minute intervals (the same course) so our party of 4 couldn't eat together - reminded us of Fawlty Towers!!
Lovely pub in a delightful small village. Good to get away from the crowds that the Cotswolds now attract and have a well cooked and presented meal with friends.
Made to feel very welcome. Pleasant atmosphere. Excellent meal.
A superbly relaxed setting.
Beautiful setting and charming dining rooms. The food was delicious and the service was cheerful and attentive. The roast beef lunch was all good and the vegetarian main was absolutely delicious. The chocolate pudding was a perfect finale and they were willing to provide a scoop of ice cream on request for a lighter pud. All in all an enjoyable experience and one we hope to repeat.
Lovely setting, fabulous to walk there from Burford if you fancy adding some exercise into your Sunday lunch activities. The only thing that could improve the experience is if they were quicker. We waited for 3/4 of an hour for our roast. And ordering drinks took ages too as there was only one member of staff behind the bar. This has been true for other times I have visited. So, if they speeded-up the whole service they would get a 5 star review.
We were recommended to eat here, and were not disappointed. The food was wonderful, a great birthday lunch. We will certainly return and recommend to others.
Ample parking, friendly staff, good clean atmosphere. Outdoor dining possible when weather permits, but the conservatory was lovely as we had the best of the garden inside.
Lovely part of the Cotswolds
Ok. Table for 2 by door into garden and kitchen doir so felt like sitting in corridor, lots of traffic. Maitre d' was loud brash and rude. Sourdough crisps with starter were over salted. Roast pork was delicious but missing crackling although we booked for 1pm lunch so not exactly late. Odd to run out so early. I had to ask why it was missing. Nothing offered in its place.
Wonderful braised beef rib, friendly staff and perfect setting.
Excellent lunch in the garden. Beautiful setting and imaginative and delicious nibbles and ploughman’s. Very good service too.
The building is lovely and the food is good. However it was a hot day and my friend wanted a pimms in a tall glass so she could have a little more lemonade. Ridiculously she was told she couldn't have it in a tall glass as that wasn't to their standards as to how they are meant to serve pimms and if an issue we could speak to the manager! Completely ridiculous when you are spending a significant amount of money to not be able to get a dash more lemonade!!!
Most of the food was good. The Cote du Boeuf was slightly disappointing. Ambience was relaxed and pleasant.
Lovely location and traditional inside. Tasty food and friendly service.
The Swan Inn is in a beautiful location, has a wonderful ambience, a lovely place to go to - and quiet.
There was a real fire lit which was very welcome, even though in August, the weather being awful the day we went.
The service was very good and the starter of home made humous was fantastic!
But the main courses were all very disappointing, I couldn't finish the fish pie, obviously heated up, watery, tasteless and unappetising, also had a funny taste. The fish of the day was also not very good, the vegan dish was OK.
Puddings all very good!
The service was attentive and the food competent. The menu is not particularly imaginative.
My husband has to eat gluten free which we mentioned in advance. We also discussed it with the waiter. Unfortunately his starter arrived with croutons which we had been told would not be added. Because it had taken a while to arrive and not to cause further delay my husband removed the croutons as best he could which wasn't great. Our steaks arrived a while later and were both cold and had to be sent back. When the steaks were returned they were hot but the accompaniments we had already been given were cool. Perhaps all this happened because they were busy.
Nice waitress unfortunately spilt beer and water all over the table...but that can happen. Food wasn't good at all. Dry houmous, with crumbly shards of crisp bread. Burger was good. The puy lentils were replaced with pearl barley without us being told, in a veggie dish that was so salty it was inedible. When we complained we were told we should have been informed by the waiter about the change. We were offered the dish for free, plus a pudding. We didn't have pudding but nothing else was offered in its place. We ordered a glass of white wine but weren't offered different sizes. A large glass of wine arrived which set us back £7.20. They should ask what size we wanted. The head waiter smelt of cigarette smoke. Really unimpressed by the service and the food. Shane because it's a lovely place, in a beautiful setting.
We've been before and had good memories of it. Beautiful setting. Attractive decor. Varied menu, not over-expensive. Food was all delicious. Friendly service. Highly recommended
We had heard great things about the Swan and were looking forward to dinner there. Beautiful building, location and gardens. The food was good, but nothing I’d rush back for.
As for the service. While seated at the table for 10 minutes with no menus, drinks or attention from anyone, the manager was having a staff meeting about good customer service!
We enjoyed a very tasty Sunday Lunch in lovely surroundings
Another lovely meal at the Swan
Sat outside in the garden, service was excellent
The staff are really good, friendly & attentive
Could do with more vegetarian options but everything was really good apart from that. Location is fantastic!
The environment was very pleasant, if a little noisy when full.
We were served by two members of staff. One was lovely but had some language difficulties. The other seemed not to care about how he handled things. For instance, he literally threw dessert spoons down on the table. We didn't feel this was malicious in any way, but perhaps he's not well suited to front-of-house work.
The menu was more expensive than the one on the pub website, and the cheese board did not match the menu (it arrived without sourdough or celery). The mains were decent, but not outstanding, especially for the price, but the puddings were excellent! The cafetiere coffee was a generous pot per person of good coffee.
Great meal, lovely food a superb night out. A mix of pub classics with some individual dishes.
The situation of the Swan is excellent. Friendly service, good food at a fair price.
We booked a table with friends for Sunday lunch and arrived early. We explained that we would have a drink outside by the river and would be back for our table booking. When we came back in the bar was packed and nobody to ask about our booking. It took 15 minutes to get to talk to the guy behind the bar, who told us he would look into our table and let us know, he looked alarmed as it appeared they had let other people onto our pre booked table. We waited another 10 minutes and managed to grab a passing waitress, she was doing her best but was frantically busy but said she would help us, and she did. When she returned she tried to set us up on a table in the bar which was completely in appropriate, clearly our table had gone! We were polite and explained we were not willing to sit at the table in the bar. We spotted a very small table available in another quieter area which was not ideal but we had now been waiting nearly an hour so we put up with it. The service initially was good when we were finally seated, but went down hill when we were over an hour in and had only had our starter.
The food was ok and reasonably priced, but we were very disappointed with just about everything!
Had a 60 birthday weekend at the swan inn & it was absolutely brilliant The location, staff & food was all top notch The price for food/accomodation, I thought, were not over the top & all the staff appeared to be happy to work there The surrounding country side is a joy to walk in though there is a fair amount of traffic All in all a truely memorable week end
Brilliant place to stop for an excellent lunch on the way to the Cotswolds. Lovely garden and beautiful setting close to the river. We enjoyed the fish pie, a pea and halloumi risotto and a chicken and mash dish. Pretty good value overall.
The swan used to be really very good unfortunately on this occasion food was well below what I’d expect wouldn’t return in a hurry! Such a shame used to be lovely
We enjoyed our meal at the swan . The food was of good quality and the service was good .
The old black mark it was over priced compared to comparable pubs .
Ridiculous slow service. Food average.
