The Swan Inn - Swinbrook
Lovely location and traditional inside. Tasty food and friendly service.
The Swan Inn is in a beautiful location, has a wonderful ambience, a lovely place to go to - and quiet.
There was a real fire lit which was very welcome, even though in August, the weather being awful the day we went.
The service was very good and the starter of home made humous was fantastic!
But the main courses were all very disappointing, I couldn't finish the fish pie, obviously heated up, watery, tasteless and unappetising, also had a funny taste. The fish of the day was also not very good, the vegan dish was OK.
Puddings all very good!
The service was attentive and the food competent. The menu is not particularly imaginative.
My husband has to eat gluten free which we mentioned in advance. We also discussed it with the waiter. Unfortunately his starter arrived with croutons which we had been told would not be added. Because it had taken a while to arrive and not to cause further delay my husband removed the croutons as best he could which wasn't great. Our steaks arrived a while later and were both cold and had to be sent back. When the steaks were returned they were hot but the accompaniments we had already been given were cool. Perhaps all this happened because they were busy.
Nice waitress unfortunately spilt beer and water all over the table...but that can happen. Food wasn't good at all. Dry houmous, with crumbly shards of crisp bread. Burger was good. The puy lentils were replaced with pearl barley without us being told, in a veggie dish that was so salty it was inedible. When we complained we were told we should have been informed by the waiter about the change. We were offered the dish for free, plus a pudding. We didn't have pudding but nothing else was offered in its place. We ordered a glass of white wine but weren't offered different sizes. A large glass of wine arrived which set us back £7.20. They should ask what size we wanted. The head waiter smelt of cigarette smoke. Really unimpressed by the service and the food. Shane because it's a lovely place, in a beautiful setting.
We've been before and had good memories of it. Beautiful setting. Attractive decor. Varied menu, not over-expensive. Food was all delicious. Friendly service. Highly recommended
We had heard great things about the Swan and were looking forward to dinner there. Beautiful building, location and gardens. The food was good, but nothing I’d rush back for.
As for the service. While seated at the table for 10 minutes with no menus, drinks or attention from anyone, the manager was having a staff meeting about good customer service!
We enjoyed a very tasty Sunday Lunch in lovely surroundings
Another lovely meal at the Swan
Sat outside in the garden, service was excellent
The staff are really good, friendly & attentive
Could do with more vegetarian options but everything was really good apart from that. Location is fantastic!
The environment was very pleasant, if a little noisy when full.
We were served by two members of staff. One was lovely but had some language difficulties. The other seemed not to care about how he handled things. For instance, he literally threw dessert spoons down on the table. We didn't feel this was malicious in any way, but perhaps he's not well suited to front-of-house work.
The menu was more expensive than the one on the pub website, and the cheese board did not match the menu (it arrived without sourdough or celery). The mains were decent, but not outstanding, especially for the price, but the puddings were excellent! The cafetiere coffee was a generous pot per person of good coffee.
Great meal, lovely food a superb night out. A mix of pub classics with some individual dishes.
The situation of the Swan is excellent. Friendly service, good food at a fair price.
We booked a table with friends for Sunday lunch and arrived early. We explained that we would have a drink outside by the river and would be back for our table booking. When we came back in the bar was packed and nobody to ask about our booking. It took 15 minutes to get to talk to the guy behind the bar, who told us he would look into our table and let us know, he looked alarmed as it appeared they had let other people onto our pre booked table. We waited another 10 minutes and managed to grab a passing waitress, she was doing her best but was frantically busy but said she would help us, and she did. When she returned she tried to set us up on a table in the bar which was completely in appropriate, clearly our table had gone! We were polite and explained we were not willing to sit at the table in the bar. We spotted a very small table available in another quieter area which was not ideal but we had now been waiting nearly an hour so we put up with it. The service initially was good when we were finally seated, but went down hill when we were over an hour in and had only had our starter.
The food was ok and reasonably priced, but we were very disappointed with just about everything!
Had a 60 birthday weekend at the swan inn & it was absolutely brilliant The location, staff & food was all top notch The price for food/accomodation, I thought, were not over the top & all the staff appeared to be happy to work there The surrounding country side is a joy to walk in though there is a fair amount of traffic All in all a truely memorable week end
Brilliant place to stop for an excellent lunch on the way to the Cotswolds. Lovely garden and beautiful setting close to the river. We enjoyed the fish pie, a pea and halloumi risotto and a chicken and mash dish. Pretty good value overall.
The swan used to be really very good unfortunately on this occasion food was well below what I’d expect wouldn’t return in a hurry! Such a shame used to be lovely
We enjoyed our meal at the swan . The food was of good quality and the service was good .
The old black mark it was over priced compared to comparable pubs .
Ridiculous slow service. Food average.
The food was delicious. The service was exceptional. One person has a long list of things she can’t eat. The person who took our order was totally unfazed by this, consulted the kitchen and came back quickly with a good suggestion (adapting an existing dish) which was pronounced very good and suggested that on another occasion if we rang ahead of time, they’d be happy to make something special.
Delicious lunch in the garden with the Bantams. Friendly, efficient, great food, great location.
This is a favourite place to eat and we are never disappointed. Thank you once again!
Excellent food, wonderful setting and friendly staff
The service was impeccable, the recommendations for both food and drink were thoughtful without being pushy. The wine selection was excellent and good value for money. I would highly recommend The Swan Inn to friends, family and colleagues for the quality of food, drink, service and the overall ambiance.
Great welcome. Superb food and amazingly well priced wines. Stunning location too.
Excellent meal at the Swan. Good choice of options on the menu and wine list. Well kept beers too. It is a pub too, so be prepared for some additional foot fall. Lovely experience all round so will be going back
Lovely special gastro pub mainly because of location and garden etc. Pleasant and efficient staff. Food was fine if a little pricey but to be expected in the Cotswold area. Only disappointment was my starter size of asparagus....only 2 spears. But overall a good experience and will recommend.
Nice building in a nice location. Some of the male staff need to smile and give a warmer welcome. The food is adequate rather than exciting.
Average in all respects. Food could have been a bit more generous but nicely cooked and attractively served. Rather expensive for the quality and quantity.
Wonderful place with great quality food, chickens in the garden and interesting history
There are some very nice features and some rather disappointing ones. The tables' appearance and particularly the positioning within the building,,is quite random, but this probably has to do with fitting in with the eccentricities of the old building. It took us three goes to find a table that was really comfortable.
The service was ok but not sparkling. The food, similarly, was good but not outstanding and we thought
overall quite expensive. We would definitely come again as overall the location and the ambience is great.
It could just do with a little tweaking to make it an outstanding venue
We loved our stay. So very quaint and comfortable. The staff is warm and helpful, and the surroundings are lovely. Several walks available from the inn’s front door. Highly recommend!
Yes but avoid the soggy mackerel main course! Feel it is 15% overpriced. Expensive exercise.
Out for a birthday meal and it was a perfect choice for dinner.
Lovely food and great service with very attentive staff.
A little off the beaten track so to speak but still a nice place on the whole. We were placed in a very quiet part of the dining area which meant that there was little atmosphere. With the tables so close together you were also conscious that other diners would easily overhear any conversations. Also, the table were were sat at was a bit rickety but apart from that it was a pleasent dining experience.
Awful service from the start. We had to wait 10 mins to be seated and had to ask twice as the first person left us standing - obviously forgot about us.
When we finally got seated, we waiting a long time for someone to come over so had to go and get someone to ask for menus and to order drinks.
Same at the end of the meal.... had to chase people down for the bill and then again for the machine to make our payment.
Very good food and beautiful setting. Just a shame the service let’s them down so much. We have been to the pub before and experienced the same poor service each time and will not be returning and would not recommend based on this. Such a shame as a beautiful pub and location.
Very nice meal and good service.
Nice enough. Sloppy and slow service. Ever so slightly patronising chap who “greeted” us who I recognised as the manager. I wonder if Mr Cameron was treated in the same way. I’m sure not. Glorious location and pleasing interior but one senses they foolishly coast on their reputation. A bit of a shame as we were staying here too, and I would have expected more. Especially from those who would say that they had been well brought up. It’s been about three years since we stayed before. To be repeated ? I doubt it.
As locals we have visited this pub many, many times over 20 years or more.
The pub has recently changed manager and some staff.
On arrival, the pub was obviously very busy with a wedding party on the point of leaving.
The Manager was cool and not very welcoming - unlike the last manager.
The serving staff in contrast were friendly despite obvious signs of coping with a busy lunchtime.
A warning of a 25 min wait for main courses turned out to be an underestimate of the eventual 45 minute delay. The food was about as good as previous occasions but a special on the day seemed under par for its £20+ price. After the main course, menus were supplied for desserts but no-one came to take an order for over 20 mins. A disappointing lunchtime visit.
We sat at our table to 15 minutes with no interaction with staff (except bar) where we had bought drinks. We then asked to order. Our orders were taken 10 minutes later and we were told that there would be a 25/30 minute wait. Unfortunately we were on a tight wedding schedule. Food arrived 45 minutes after ordering, not 30. Food was fine. Surely if you have booked a table at 1.00, you should be able to order and eat one course comfortably without rushing. We had one main course but otherwise sandwiches and starters. We had to leave at 2.15
