Excellent ,everybody put themselves out despite the fact that booking through Open Table did not get through
Perfect for a business lunch. Food, service and ambiance all excellent.
The food was lovely apart from the bread and butter pudding which was like a dry cake. This was changed for the berry crumble which was a plum crumble.
The best meal we have had for a long time. The whole evening could not be faulted
Adriana and staff were great
We shared Whitebait which was beautifully presented and enough for two
Sirloin steak and haddock were excellent
My partner says to mention the lovely chips!
Good service and great food.
Having arrived 30mins early for our table, we were told this is fine and shown to a table. The restaurant was very quiet. We decided on our menu choices, ordered, then waited 45mins for soup, and pate to arrive. Main courses followed, but vegetables were badly cooked and barely warm. My pheasant was also barely warm and over cooked. My husband's Pork was tasteless, and again virtually cold. Luke warm gravy didn't help. An offer to heat the food up was made, we declined as we had another appointment and due to the time taken to serve us, we had to eat and go. A discount was given, however we were very disappointed as we had driven 50 miles to try the Swan for lunch.
The staff were attentive, the food was good and of good value, but I found The Swan very cold. Actually it was very cold, there was a terrible draft coming from an open door behind the reception desk and when I went to the loo before we left the window in each of the 3 cubicles was wide open and it was the coldest night of the autumn so far. But the decor was cold too, totally soulless and bland with not a hint of colour. Also, though the food was good, our main course, steak pie was presented in such a way that it wasn't easy to eat. The pie came in a dish so deep that it kept the pie so piping hot that by the time it was cool enough to each, the vegetables were cold (even though we'd used the pie dish lid to cover them) and with it being so deep it was difficult to get the pie out. So, sorry, but we won't be back and I won't be recommending The Swan to friends.
Good menu, speedy service, quiet and provided a location to sit that reflected out special request.
We enjoyed our lunch
First time visited this public house great food. Helpful service only negative custard serving small 😏
Whilst overall I would recommend dining at The Swan, be sure to tell them if you have an allergy as they do not label their dishes, even where nuts are involved. I had to send a pork loin back because it was garnished in nuts. Booked a table for 6pm and it was not ready until 6.30. Food did taste good though.
Lovely menu, nice setting, cosy and attentive.
Good Gin too!
A perfect evening! Great service, excellent food, and a lovely warm atmosphere. What more could we ask for!
We thoroughly enjoyed our Sunday roast! All staff were so courteous and friendly. We’ll certainly be returning. Couldn’t fault anything.
Very pleasant Sunday dinner on 1-9-19 would recommend it to anybody wishing for a country pub atmosphere! Very friendly staff and there was no need to get a loan , very well priced ! 😊 Steve Mears.
Great roast dinner with the family! Would definitely recommend this pub!
Very friendly and obliging as we arrived early. Good, tasty food and a very large roast. An enjoyable experience. We’ll come again .
Just about recommend - food could have been better in some areas I felt, the starters did not all arrive at once we thought one had been forgotten. I was asked when booking if it was a special occasion and I said it was my mother in law's birthday but nobody mentioned or asked me about this. Wasn't greatly impressed overall.
Booked a table for my friend and I and our children. The staff are really professional, knew their menu inside out and were approachable and good humoured with the children. We always feel welcome there. It’s like visiting family.
Good Food, good service pleasant experience . I would recommend this venue to anyone.
Great food on a lovely evening in the garden. Service was fine, but food better
Visited early evening so the restaurant area was very quiet. Staff attentive and food excellent.
Staff were really helpful organising seating around one of my party's wheelchair, and in their service overall.
The food was delicious and beautifully presented, and it was a hot busy day for the kitchen, so must have been torturous for them.
There's a slight issue with accessing the garden area if using a wheelchair, but I have been assured this is being dealt with, and in the interim the staff there are only too happy to assist if necessary.
We will definitely return.
Food was very good and the two young staff were very pleasant but were struggling to cope at the pinch points. Don't know who was responsible for cleaning the outdoor patio, but they should be told their duties include emptying the previous evening's ashtrays and sweeping old cigarette butts from under the tables. Otherwise, a pleasant lunch.
Great food and service staff were exceptional, even brought my wife a little cake for her Birthday with candle after over hearing us mention it, very nice touch. Highly recommend the Swan.
Having been several times midweek, and very happy with all aspects, we were bitterly disappointed with Sunday lunch. No vegetarian option for the roast, nor facility to adapt another veggie option as potatoes roasted in animal fat and no veggie gravy. However, meat eaters stated the meat was cooked beautifully (lamb and chicken) but highly dissatisfied with temperatures of food, quality of vegetables (some over cooked, some under) and rubbery Yorkshire puddings. Embarrassing for me as I highly recommended the place as somewhere good to eat. The manager tried very hard to recompense but we (and he) should not have been put in that uncomfortable situation.
Lovely meal, although the accompanying sauce with the sea bass was too strong and garlicky... hard to taste the fish. Roast beef excellent.
Great service and ambience.
We’ll be back.
Lovely old pub in beautiful surroundings with friendly staff. There are bar snacks & a restaurant with a large car park opposite. I understand there are rooms also, a delightful & interesting part of the country to visit.
Just love coming for dinner at The Swan. Perfect place to visit on our way home.
It was a cool day but sunny the food was nice but cold ,my roast beef and veg was disappointing as cold veg is not very appetising even though the beef and lamb were nice .We had to prompt to be served, and waited a while between courses even though not very busy. We were not offered wine.
The dessert was really good though ,lemon posset ,I would recommend it!
My mother, wife and I arrived 5.30pm on a Sunday. Just missed the Sunday lunch rush and the restaurant was almost empty so we had a choice of tables. Apparently they had 80 settings earlier. The restaurant and pub have a very good setting solid wood furniture, linen napkins and quality glassware. The staff were very helpful, not just because we were the only customers for a time. Food was very good, battered haddock chunky chips, peas, Grilled fish, samphire and other veg and I had roast beef. All very good. My mother is very hard to please and she said we must go back, so that's praise indeed.
I really enjoyed our first trip to the Swan, the food was really tasty, well cooked and presented. The Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc we chose was not too expensive but still had a beautiful smooth note. No complaints we’ll be back!
Unfortunately we didn't have a god experience at the Swan this time, we have been many times normally for birthdays and every thing is five star. This time however was not the case. I have a feeling they may have been short staffed. We ordered our food and our starters arrived they were fantastic couldn't fault them at all. However, the mains took a while to arrive. My husbands and brother in laws fish and chips arrived first, well the fish looked like it had been halved for the pair of them it was such a small piece of haddock it looked like a child's portion. My husband mentioned this and the waitress said we will charge half price for your fish and chips. My rib eye steak was ok and my sister in laws pork chip was ok. Normally we always very pleased indeed with everything. The plates were taken away we were not asked if we would like dessert. In the end we asked if we could have coffee it was far to late to have a dessert. We had the coffees on the house and the waitress bought me a birthday dessert which was very sweet of her. So disappointed this time with our visit. The fish and chips were taken off the bill completely and the coffee was also on the house.
Came here for Sunday lunch and the roasts were outstanding. My only negative would be the lack of veg on the plate.
The desserts were also amazing and good value for £6.
Good food let down by poor inattentive service. We were there 10 mins before anybody asked us for a drinks order. Staff seem more interested in talking to each other. A shame because we’ve been before and the service was good. Next time I’m afraid we will think twice.
The food was exceptional
Although the smoked ham hock terrine was less a terrine in the traditional sense, but more a chunk of meat, the quality of the ham and the flavour of the chutney and accompaniments were fantastic
The asparagus with crushed peas and crispy duck egg was delicious
Mains wise - I was really impressed by the tomahawk chop and especially the chipotle salsa. The wild garlic yoghurt with it was a great and unexpected delight!
The braise lamb was not quite what it seemed too. The lamb was a little rare and fatty. It appeared to have been booked on a barbecue which added great smoky notes but it probably needed some time in a pan or in the oven too. Not braised as such but again absolutely delicious especially with the purees and wild mushrooms
I would be back in a flash!
Pleasant pub but lacks ambience in restaurant. Tomahawk Pork Chop was very good but vegetables overdone. Service could be a little sharper.
Great Sunday lunch, lovely environment, fast and welcoming service
Mother’s Day Meal
Positives: Starters (curried cauliflower soup, crayfish and avocado salad), mains (roast beef and pork belly, veggy risotto), one desset (lemon posset - to pud!), flavoured gin and draft beers, friendly service, ambience and reasonable value.
Negatives: Sauces and one veg left off mains, one dessert (apple and brandy sorbet - no taste of brandy and not a sorbet).
