The Talbot Inn
Our accomplished Head Chef and his team produce delicious, seasonal dishes with a big focus on locally sourced produce.
The Talbot Ripley"s menus feature imaginative modern British a la carte dishes, as well as traditional classics and seafood specialities. For those with a sweet tooth we have an array of mouth-watering puddings that are quite simply, to die for!
We have a choice of areas in which you can dine, from our cosy bar with its 15th Century beams and open log fires to our restaurant which features a stunning copper ceiling and glass wall overlooking the Summer terrace and garden.
Very quiet when we went for lunch on a Saturday, but food was delicious and staff were helpful and friendly. Highly recommended.
Excellent ambience and good food with prompt service
We have been here many time over the last couple of years for lunch. Today was the first poor meal. Tomato and feta salad used old tomatoes and had no flavour. The waitress could not speak English and he chips when they eventually came were cold. It wasn’t busy but service was poor. Shame as other courses were good and has always been good in the past. Hopefully a one off.
Fantastic! We had an amazing anniversary dinner here. The food was perfect, great selection of wines. Absolutely nothing to complain about at all. The sea bass was sublime.
Average food and service. The lamb I had was tough, and the combination of yoghurt and lamb with spices did not really work.
Not the quality experience we were expecting. We were on a table with a very wet floor all around us when there were others available. Meat platter was mainly processed and sliced meet. Fish platter was very nice though
I used to go here years ago and loved it, so booked a special night out to go last Friday and what a mistake, it was terrible. We booked a table for 9pm and when we arrived were told the kitchen was just about to close so had to rush though our order, the food arrived along with several flies constantly landing on us as we tried to eat a very overpriced meal in a room with no atmosphere what so ever... this place should be condemned as I'm sure is a health risk
Burger and chicken rather dry Elton mess disappointing and not value for money
The food was delicious and Talbot itself is a lovely venue, my only concern surrounds service. The service seemed a little disjointed, we had 3 different servers throughout our time there but each didn’t seem to know what the other was doing.
We enjoyed our lunch very much, sadly, because it was a nice sunny day, we were visited by a wasp on many occasions during our meal, probably due to the position of the table we chose, but we did not get stung!
Very good experience with a nice menu and very good food. The waiter was helpful and professional but with only him serving service was inevitably very slow as the dining room filled up soon after we arrived. I would recommend the restaurant to my friends but you need to put on extra staff or you will rapidly lose goodwill.
We all enjoyed our lunch at the Talbot. We had telephoned to say we would be delayed for our booking by 20 minutes and the staff were very helpful about accommodating us, despite the restaurant being busy. The food was very good and we would definitely eat there again!
Overall a really good experience, great service, great food and a wonderful setting.
nice enough meal, but service was not brilliant to be honest, although the staff were all very nice and apologised for the wait, but obviously there were just not enough of them
The staff welcomed well, the service was attentive to dietary needs for our party, the food came reasonably promptly, the duck and the hake (the main dishes chosen by our party) were considered very good, and the wine was of good quality but not expensive by restaurant standards. The menu was not long, but still offered a good range (perhaps less so for the desserts - but the Eton mess and the chocolate brownies went down well).
The bathroom was filthy and smelt of mildew. When we got to the room all the windows were open, we closed them before we went out. When we returned the smell was so bad, that we had to put a towel at the bottom of the door to keep out the smell. We could not shower the nest day because the smell was so strong.
Poor, poor, poor. No other way to describe our stay at the Talbot. Still waiting for a call from management to discuss our concerns as there wasn’t one member of the management team there that weekend.
My lamb was perfect but rather spoilt by the cold sloppy addition !
The offer was misleading. The advertised £14/£18 lunch was on offer as was a voucher for a free glass of wine with lunch. However I ordered the wine then was told that the wine was only on offer with the a la Carte menus which was considerably more expensive. I would recommend the Nelson Sharing Plate as a starter it was delicious. The main courses were nothing to write home about and not good value. I do like the Hotel and the village, so would visit again. But next time be more clear about the offers.
I took my 88 year old mother for an overnight stay and requested a room close by and easily assessable as she is visually impaired. We where given rooms 103 and 104 which suited us perfectly!!
Mum was very pleased with her room as it was easy for her to feel where everything was to get her bearings. We had a beautiful meal in the restaurant and service was excellent.
McLaren Technology Centre visit
Booked on the day, saturday, for dinner at a respectable time which was a bonus. Having never been for a meal before decided on nibbles instead of starters. Be aware, the nibbles are large, comfortable for two sharing. Good selection of wine and the Chicken Milanese was excellent. All meals were well priced and service very good with knowledgeable staff. Looking forward to another visit.
First time to the Talbot Inn - went with a friend for a light snack - we were very impressed with the service and quality of food. Will definitely go again.
The food was fabulous but the service was atrocious unfortunately. Everything was wrong- wrong wine brought over, kids meal forgotten, bread took too long to arrive. Lots of staff stood around folding napkins - constantly having to wave for attention. Dishonesty with kids meal being forgotten which was frustrating. As a result my daughter ate a whole breadbasket while waiting and none of her lunch! Shame as it’s a lovely setting and the food was great
Had a successful evening at Talbot with good food, well cooked at reasonable prices and had a complimentary glass of wine each. The decor is tasteful and smart with a striking copper ceiling combining modern touch’s with the old pub and coaching house. It was quiet enough to talk easily but still convivial enough to have be social.I would recommend it
Wife’s birthday and her steak (£23) was like rubber. They were very apologetic and removed the cost and the cost of the replacement from the bill. It’s a great location and a nice set up but I won’t be back given the other quality options in the area.
Food as always very good at the Talbot and very quiet on Saturday afternoon; apart from another loud table but that's Surrey!
Food, service & ambiance good, checked on web site before booking & had sea bass listed, but unable to get sea bass on the night, which was a little disappointing, no white fish available, which I would have expected. Had salmon instead, which was superb
Had the pate and beef Cheeks, cooked really well but thought it was lacking in flavour. However the cooked breakfast was lovely.
Bed was a bit soft.
Wouldn’t put me off staying there again though
Second visit - also good. We were later arriving so one or two cooked items not available as was very busy breakfast. Overall was a lovely experience. We had a babe in a pushchair and two year old who were very happy too. Very nicely seated.
Would definitely return in future
Food and service was excellent - excellent value for money.
Every table was full .
Amazing food and such good value, incredible service
We booked a table for 3 the week before Christmas to take my Mother out for a nice lunch. We were not disappointed the food and service were great. It was pretty manic as there were large tables because it was Christmas but we were not forgotten and given great attention. There was a great choice of starters and deserts around a 4 meat Christmas carvery option which was lovely. Will definitely return again outside of the Christmas period.
Good food in a lovely calm and relaxed atmosphere. Staff were friendly and helpful although service took a little longer than expected. Another enjoyable night at the Talbot overall
Friendly staff and attractive surroundings. Food was good although slightly limited because it was a Sunday buffet. Generally a successful outing for a mixed generation party
Had not been to Talbot for a few years. Was very disappointed. Dirty menus. Floors unswept and glass windows filthy. We left before ordering any lunch. We were the only customers there at 12:30 on a Friday. Not a good sign at all.
A very average experience in a lovely venue. It was quiet since there was only one other couple! Says a lot about a place when it is so empty.
Next time we will go back to The Onslow Arms in W. Clandon - go check it out for what you should be doing! No comparison. Will you want to put this in your reviews....?
Food was good however my main course was not value for money. Attentive staff. Very quiet midweek. Lovely outdoor seating for good weather days.
Service very very poor, we ordered drinks that never came also.
