Fish & Chips
Cheddar cheese, smoked streaky bacon, beef tomato relish & triple cooked chips
The friends we were with had been to the Talbot before and they were disappointed by the menu which had ‘shrunk’ apparently.
We all had the fish and chips and were pleased with the delicious platters that arrived. The food was freshly cooked, hot and well presented.
We were sat in the bright conservatory which was busy which in itself was good to see on a Monday lunchtime.
All in all a very pleasant lunchtime venue.
We will be back.
Disappointed with our visit. Arrived at 1.45 for Sunday lunch to be told the beef was sold out and there was only chicken available. One of our party chose a burger which tasted as if the meat was off and was inedible so asked for the roast instead, to be told there were none available, not even the chicken. There was no apology or explanation from the manager for this poor experience although the bill was reduced in compensation. Overall very poor and won’t be returning.
Sunday lunch was in a lovely location and polite staff & service. However soup ok, Sunday roast very disappointing, plates cold, Yorkshire puddings cold whole meal just warm. No veggie option. What’s a shame. Coffee good.
Restaurant had been closed and we had to eat in the bar. Menu was only about half the number of dishes shown on online menu and very unbalanced - apart from ice cream all desserts very stodgy.
Spent the afternoon at RHS Wisley and searched for a local restaurant to round off the evening. Talbot was close, and had good reviews. Online menu also looked tempting.
Welcome from staff was courteous and professional and the building was quaint, being a 16th century coaching inn.
Shown to our table and was told it was only the bar menu available, which was somewhat limited.
We chose the veggie burger and the Talbot burger, both around the 15 quid mark. Both very disappointing. For that money you expect a bit of garnish or something to go with. The meat burger was tough and uninspiring.
Adequate at best, shame really, because the staff tried hard.
Booked for lunch as website showed restaurant closed on Mondays, but serving cooked menu from 12 to 2.30pm. On arrival only 'brunch' dishes available.
Very easy to book the table on this website, which makes life so much easier when it is a last minute decision to go out!
The Talbot is lovely historical pub/restaurant, that the staff couldn't have been more helpful. Will definitely be going back soon!
Boiler not working so no heating. Was cold and couldn't take of jackets. Not informed in advance and only when asking for heating to be put on informed it wasn't working. Food was average and good pub food. Small menu and dessert very limited. Service was very good.
We visited for a Sunday lunch at 2pm with friends and when we were seated we were informed they were not serving any roasts so this was a bit of a disappointment and something I would have expected to be informed of prior to arrival.
The restaurant was empty so no real atmosphere only one other table which seemed odd.
The service at the table was good but we were hovering around the door for a while to be seated.
The food we had was very good but was a little bit of a disappointment overall.
We sat in the pub/bar area after and that was a lovely atmosphere.
Third time I've come here for lunch to meet friends. Always nice food and the service is good. It was quite noisy but they did have a lot of covers in over the course of the two and a half hours we were there
Visited for a late Sunday lunch. The restaurant was chilly. Took a long time for our coffees to arrive (looked like filter coffee vs the americano and flat white we ordered); we weren’t told there were no sandwiches on Sunday until we came to order and weren’t told there were also roasts available.
Having said that the veg burger I had was tasty; the beef and kids burger were ok but nothing special. Had to remind them to take the flat white I sent back off the bill. Can not recommend
Staff are lovely but when asked if the did mocktails answered no and walked off! I had to get the attention of another staff member and asked if the did any non alcoholic drinks all they could offer was soft drinks and tomato juice. I would have though it not impossible to stock non alcoholic wine/beer. They also do not do cocktails which is surprising in this day and age.
Fantastic place lovely atmosphere super friendly staff
Very pleasant environment- been here on numerours occasions- cold day outside and a bit nippy inside too, thought it would warm up as more diners arrived but had to wear coats throughout. (Near the toilets corridor)
Food was sound, service was sound.
No problem overall - we will return.
The food and service were very good and certainly good value for money. Will come again.
Friendly welcome, rather like dining at a friend's house. Lovely surroundings.
Food was pretty good, but bad service. We were left standing at the bar for over 5 minutes before anyone even acknowledged we existed. When we were finally seated, the waitress had no idea what draft beers were available.
Main dining room overlooking the garden is very pleasant, particularly on a sunny day. Noise level can be high with uncarpeted floor, glass walls and fairly low ceiling.
Great service, lovely food. Very enjoyable evening.
We enjoyed an evening meal at The Talbot restaurant and the food was exceptional. As we were staying overnight we enjoyed a cooked breakfast, the food itself was very tasty but unfortunately the plates and food were not very hot which affected the overall enjoyment of breakfast. Vegetarian sausages would also have been an appreciated extra :)
We both enjoyed our meals. Well cooked Fish & Chips and a decent Chicken Milanese. Excellent service from very pleasant waitress.
Have eatern at talbot befotre and will doubtless return.Consistently better than average Pub Grub!
not happy being stuck out the back in a dog friendly room when we had no dog bowel and dog blanket in room room poor compared to some others
Friendly and welcoming service. Happy to help and answer questions regarding food intolerances. Good value and a very comfortable setting. Good selection of by the glass wine too
Very friendly staff despite being short handed. Lovely venue...
It came as quite a surprise to find the sauces to accompany our Sunday roast delivered as sachets.
At this price point this shouldn't really be happening.
The cutlery was also dirty, not filthy, it had been put through a washing process but not checked. Again, at this price, I don't expect to have to check things like this before I eat.
Then, after eating, the ladies went to the toilets and came out disgusted by the smell in there. They both said that had they gone in there before we ate, we'd have left at that point.
The dining area itself was nice, with a view out to the patio and garden, but I think my wife summed our thoughts up pretty well when she said 'well, we gave it a go, but we won't come back here again'.
Very accommodating, nice atmosphere and good food 👍🏽
Thoroughly enjoyed our lunch and would definitely recommend it.
Very pleasant surroundings and good food, an ideal combination.
Good surroundings and good food.
Restaurant overlooking the garden was comfortable and staff attentive
A really nice restaurant in a beautiful old coaching inn. The food was brilliant and there was a lot of it. Staff were friendly and attentive. Definitely recommended.
Disappointed that on a lovely day we weren’t able to lunch outdoors (especially during covid) because apparently a wedding was coming in after we’d gone. It kinda took the gloss off the lunch.
Also no smaller sparkling water, so it was either a whole large one, or just tap.
But a decent lunch at not too bad a price.
Good Sunday roast hot! Good atmosphere service not too rushed!
A pleasant setting, with dinner in the conservatory. Table service was good. Food was OK but nothing special. Ladies' toilet had no toilet paper in all but one; waste paper bin was full and paper was all over the floor. Hadn't been to The Talbot for a few years; it used to be much better.
Very nice venue and the staff were very helpful. We had to change our booking time due to traffic congestion because of Wisley Flower Show. Several other bookings had been cancelled for the same reason so we had a great choice of seating. Food was good.
I went to the Talbot with a friend for lunch. I always have a starter if there isn’t a lunch menu.
My courgette and pesto salad was so disappointing. Maybe 5 pieces of lettuce, a squashed cut up tomato, shreds of courgette and pesto sauce that wouldn’t have filled a saucer for £8.95! As this wasn’t what I expected I ordered a strawberry cheesecake with cream. This wasn’t a cheesecake more a mousse on a biscuit crumb base and not a strawberry in sight.
I didn’t complain but on reflection telephoned the Talbot the next day. A member of staff said she’d ask Avril to phone as soon as he got in at 3pm. No phone call so I rang after 4pm to be told the manager would either phone or e-mail me the next day. No communication at all, obviously not worthy!
So disappointed. I will not suggest to any of my friends or colleagues to dine at The Talbot.
Nice food but awful service! After being seated for our afternoon tea we had to wait an hour after the food came for our teas & coffee after chasing this twice! We ended up sitting on the terrace chatting after our food for a couple of hours and were not approached once to see if we wanted anymore food or drink! It's a lovely setting but the service really let's it down.
we’ve visited before. lovely lace excellent standard of service. dish was not as good as previous visit. wild mushroom dish could have added more stock flavours as was heavy snd had to add salt x 2 where i never defer to salt in my cooking or meals. chef presented dish excellently and mushrooms itself was nice. mushroom sauce needs improving. friend had vegetarian burger that could be improved. many it’s the vegetarian dishes?
Overpriced for quality of food.
Took a little while to come out
We had excellent service, and weren't rushed - I was meeting a friend whom I hadn't been able to meet since the small gap in lock down last year, so we had much to talk about.
Good choice on the menu and well presented.
One of the three meals was not good to the extent that we will be cancelling our forthcoming booking and going somewhere else
