The Talbot has excellent cooking along with high levels of service and friendliness, its own off street parking. So just about everything you might need. Definitely recommended.
Lovely afternoon tea at the Talbot Inn! We chose to go there following a visit to Wisley Gardens and it was our first visit to the Talbot. Lovely atmosphere and we received a warm welcome. Service was very prompt and the food was delicious. Looking forward to going back again in the not too distant future!
Our meal was vey poor. My food was dry and lacked flavour. The service was dreadful.
The head waiter spent 15 mins in the garden chatting to two guys and his assistant cleared tables while we, as the final diners, were just left waiting.
The Talbot is beautiful and I can't wait (Covid restrictions permitting) for it to fill up again which adds so much to the ambience. A slightly bigger choice on the menu would be welcome as well, but I can certainly recommend coming to this very special place.
Very delicious Sunday roast! The services was fantastic!
good service had an excellent stayzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Surprisingly not busy for a Sunday lunchtime. The waiting staff appeared to be rather untrained - they didn't know what draught ales were available and when they found out, they had no idea about their character. We had the Sunday roast beef which was described as Striploin. Only having heard of this when in USA, we queried which cut it was. They came back and said it was from the back of the animal - not very enlightening! Not sure what cut it was as it was rather chewy, though perfectly cooked pink and the serving was enormous. Unfortunately, the gravy resembled dish water.
Rather disappointing as the restaurant and settling is well presented.
Had a lovely evening meal, the food and service were great
The menu hasn't changed in a long time, could really do with a refresh.
It pays to go when they are busy as service was fast and efficient
Took first table, there was a bit of a draught, but it looked busy so didn’t ask to change. Afternoon tea was very nice and good selection.
Great food and the staff couldn't do enough for you. Good portion sizes. Everywhere was super clean and all precautions had been taken. Well done everyone.
Food pretty standard nothing to write home about.
We booked for 7.15, were seated early at 7.05, in front of an open door to the garden (which was hosting a wedding ... bride looked gorgeous in her orange wedding dress) there were other empty seats when we were seated.
20 mins later I shut the open door as people were walking in and out of the garden through the restaurant to the bar, rather than following the one way system in place knocking my chair, my partner had visited the bar to get another drink.
At 7.50pm we finally managed to get someone attention to place an order for drinks and food!!!
8.45pm are food arrived.
Small portions and wasn't sure my chicken was fully cooked... had lost the will to return by then as was past hungry.
Guest who had arrived after us had eaten 2 courses and left
Service was a bit slow and we felt a bit unwelcome
Staff helpful and friendly!
Really good Sunday lunch. Very nicely cooked meat and veg, plenty of it, and good wine. Good quality as well as good value. Service prompt but staff new in the job and not sure of basics but only two weeks out of lockdown! Will go again.
Perfect for a few days away. Nothing to much trouble food so much choice and very good service.
Good food. Good service. Convivial atmosphere and nice outlook onto garden.
It was a pity we couldn't eat in the conservatory which is a much pleasanter room than the main dining room. Also, a better selection of draught beer would be nice.
Very pleasantly surprised by the amount of space afforded to every table. The 3 corse Christmas Menu offered plenty of choice and was well presented. Wine was great value and the atmosphere was calm and festive
Always love the Talbot.
The Staff are wonderful and it has such a homely feeling.
Food is always delicious :)
As we were not one household we had to eat outside. There were no heaters and it was very cold. The food was good and the staff did their best. However as the question wasn't asked about being a household on booking, we had wrongly presumed they would be prepared for such eventualities. A mistake.
Lovely Christmas pub lunch in a gorgeous setting. Service was good too.
All appeared very Covid-19 compliant.
Some good pub “usual suspects” plus interesting specials. All our food was nicely presented and flavoursome.
The surroundings and appearance of The Talbot Inn were fantastic but the experience was completely let down by the service. The waitress who served us did not seem to have had any training in either table service or COVID safety. She abandoned us at the waiting area and then shouted for us to come over to our table, twice shouted across the restaurant to answer a colleague in a different area whilst standing right next to us and rather than coming to the table to check on our food or advise of last orders, she again shouted over to us both times whilst cleaning a table elsewhere. We noticed that she did the same to other diners. At times she wore a mask which barely covered her mouth and left her nose uncovered and at other times, she wore the mask below her chin which is completely unacceptable in these COVID times. I did not feel safe and was really glad that our food was delivered to us by a different waitress who wore her mask properly. I was amazed given the risks that the those working in hospitality are currently under, that more care and precaution were not taken by her. It was a really disappointing experience given that the meal for two with wine was nearly £100 which is very poor value in the circumstances and I would not return there.
Delicious food including sticky toffee pudding . Friendly and helpful staff . Luckily we were told about items already sold out so that our hopes were well managed
Restaurant with lots of character. Friendly staff but service quite slow. Food was alright. Had Sunday roast.
Wednesday lunchtime visit was very pleasant. Had a table in the Conservatory overlooking the lovely garden area. Tables were well spaced, hand sanitizer available on arrival and waiting staff were attentive but kept to a distance as much as possible. The food was excellent. We had a Chicken Milanese and a Sea bass both of which were cooked to perfection. Good value and will definitely lunch there again.
Food was delicious and the portions were generous. Have a good range of wines.
The restaurant was quieter than usual, but that is thanks to Covid-19.
Cleanliness was poor, in that the dining chairs were dirty and the menus were sticky.
Great food and service. All mindful of covid and social distancing. Good value.
Had the fish and chips and was delicious and partner had burger which he said was great!
All in all a lovely evening
I was denied my pint of bitter.
My fish was not the old standard but none the less a lovely location.
Very good food and nice atmosphere in very pleasant village.
Not a huge choice on menu, but food was cooked freshly, very tasty, staff very attentive.
Very good afternoon tea. Wished they had a bit more sandwiches rather than cakes though as it was becoming sickly sweet toward the last couple of cakes.
Lovely lunch at the Talbot. Service was really friendly and efficient. Limited menu...would have liked some lighter options for lunch time. Would recommend
Lovely venue and a nice, safe table. Food was very good (although my burger could have been cooked a little less....skinny fries were great!)
Nice pub with excellent service.
Affected by Covid restrictions but overall not very inspiring.
Lovely evening with a friend, very covid-19 aware, felt safe, food and service good and had 25% off with a gourntcard which paid for a main course, even beytert
Quiet evening with lovely food and good service. Would come again
