   The food is very ordinary and not in line with the beautiful surroundings. There was no vegetarian Sunday lunch option, no cocktails, no interesting specials.It was disappointing and quite empty for a Sunday lunchtime. This is no doubt due to the plain food.

   Not many people. The conservatory was hot even though it was overcast. The service was slow and the food came late and one dish was hot while the other was dry and cold. There was no garnish, you literally get what you ask for and condiments came in Heinz sachets - not what we expect to get at that price. It was noisy in the room even though there were not many tables occupied. Overall, disappointing.

   Poor evening menu choices, and what we did have unfortunately wasn’t very good. The outside has a nice looking area for seating / dining / drinks but the large and noisy / smelly extractor fan from the kitchen goes over the patio area which is a shame. Won’t be returning.

   Really good food and great atmosphere. There was a slight mistake with the wine order, but it was sorted out quickly and with no fuss. Would definitely recommend and go again.

    Very nice ambience, old mixed with modern. We sat at a table overlooking the patio and garden for afternoon tea, which was pleasant. The young man who served us was very nice and attentive, however as it busied up, we had to wait a bit to ask for more tea. The sandwiches were very nice. The Victoria sandwich cake we both thought may have come from a certain ‘Mr’ brand!!! Also the scones had an odd flavour, maybe too much bicarbonate of soda. Overall we had a very pleasant experience but I felt for a similar price M&S afternoon tea would have been quality.

    Sadly not very good - the squid starters were greasy and overpowered by coriander, the haddock fish batter was very greasy too and contained hardly any fish though chunky chips were fine. One of the other meals had been kept under a warming lamp and so the cod had dried out and broccoli served browned and crisped with soggy sweet potatoes - we should have known when we asked for the burgers to be served medium and one well done and we were told that wasn’t possible - given the high price very disappointing and can’t recommend

    My wife and I had the midweek lunch set menu which was excellent value. It was lovely to enjoy the Talbot's garden in Spring sunshine, and the salt & pepper squid starter was sensational! We would definitely like to eat there again. Thanks to the team for a very pleasant lunch.

    Lovely lunch for Mothers Day. Super buffet for starters with pate, prawns, mackerel, salmon, cold meats, salad and a variety of breads; main course was three roasts but also fish and vegetarian options. Delicious choice of desserts and a free glass of Prosecco!!! Nice buzz around the restaurant and lots of room around tables so felt comfortable. Service was satisfactory but they could have been more attentive at times. Very enjoyable and would recommend.

    Interesting and good choice of dishes. Food (I had pea and mint risotto, 3 others had beef and veg) well presented. Veg cooked just right (often difficult for restaurants to do) and tasty. Sweets filling. Waitress appeared at exactly the right times. Library decor with unusual photos entertained.

    Went for soup & bacon & sausage sandwich, soup was cold. I did not like the beef sausage and the bacon was over done so no I would not choose that again. It was such a shame because the place is lovely.

    Service was quick courteous and efficient. Noise Level in the conservatory during the special tea session was so bad my daughter and I withdrew to the quieter area in the Bar. We will come again but book earlier to not clash with the tea parties.

    Very Friendly staff Room was comfortable and quiet - dated decor. Cleanish - dust and cobwebs in places. Food ok - nothing special Breakfast was disappointing- cooked was ok but continental was lacking variety… no muesli or granola or weetabix - yogurt out in the direct sun - pastries nothing special. Tables abit too close together given covid situation. No real ambiance- might be better in the summer when garden in use as that did look quite nice. Might have benefited from a little background music.

    Tues 15th evening..faultless. Wed 16th..apparent issues in the kitchen meant an hour's wait for our one course meal. Service staff Sophie & Olivia were excellent..forever apologising etc etc, and very embarrassed. Sophie volunteered the food & wine as complimentary which was very kind. A shame, and we're sure a one-off, as the inn is lovely, the food excellent & all front of house staff truly courteous & helpful. We shall defo return!

    The service was slow. Staff seemed to be unaware they were there to serve and needed prompting. The conservatory needs blinds to cut out the strong sun. We wont be back for a while but someone needs to be in charge of the dining guests. adding a service charge was a cheek!!!!!!!!!!!!! I dont usually give poor reviews but was bitterly disappointed.

    Beautiful sunlit room with views over the garden was a pleasure to eat in, and the food was delicious and well presented. The waiting staff were polite and friendly but some messages seemed to get lost between them and the kitchen: for example a dessert requested with vanilla ice cream came with caramel instead, drink without ice came with ice, only minor things but they shouldn't have happened. The biggest disappointment for us was the lack of clarity over Gluten Free options. We had specifically mentioned when we booked that we had someone in the party who was gluten intolerant, but there were no GF options labelled on the menu, and in particular nothing except ice cream on the desert menu was GF, and the staff made no effort to create anything. Our GF guest was very disappointed and seeing as she was the one buying the meal it was a shame they couldn't have tried harder. In summary, a nice place if you want to eat off the standard menu and we would go there again, but not if we have our GF friend with us, or anybody else who has special dietary requirements.

    Our first time here and we were made to feel very welcome. The menu had changed to the one we saw online,nevertheless we were not disappointed. We though it would be much busier for a Friday lunchtime than it was.

    Took older parents who normally complain about venues being too noisy - but the noise level was just right! Lovely staff and very generous portion sizes for the Sunday roasts. We would definitely go back.

    Very, very limited choice of food on menu. Sea bass, fish and chips, 1 burger, 1 chicken dish and vegetarian dish, unless you wanted expensive (in comparison) steak which we opted for, but really wasn't worth the money. Sea bass should have been served with new pots and veg but wasn't. Deserts and starters had more choice. The food was cooked well, and tasty, but overall lacked thought and finer details.

    The friends we were with had been to the Talbot before and they were disappointed by the menu which had ‘shrunk’ apparently. We all had the fish and chips and were pleased with the delicious platters that arrived. The food was freshly cooked, hot and well presented. We were sat in the bright conservatory which was busy which in itself was good to see on a Monday lunchtime. All in all a very pleasant lunchtime venue. We will be back.

    Disappointed with our visit. Arrived at 1.45 for Sunday lunch to be told the beef was sold out and there was only chicken available. One of our party chose a burger which tasted as if the meat was off and was inedible so asked for the roast instead, to be told there were none available, not even the chicken. There was no apology or explanation from the manager for this poor experience although the bill was reduced in compensation. Overall very poor and won’t be returning.

    Restaurant had been closed and we had to eat in the bar. Menu was only about half the number of dishes shown on online menu and very unbalanced - apart from ice cream all desserts very stodgy.

    Spent the afternoon at RHS Wisley and searched for a local restaurant to round off the evening. Talbot was close, and had good reviews. Online menu also looked tempting. Welcome from staff was courteous and professional and the building was quaint, being a 16th century coaching inn. Shown to our table and was told it was only the bar menu available, which was somewhat limited. We chose the veggie burger and the Talbot burger, both around the 15 quid mark. Both very disappointing. For that money you expect a bit of garnish or something to go with. The meat burger was tough and uninspiring. Adequate at best, shame really, because the staff tried hard.

    Very easy to book the table on this website, which makes life so much easier when it is a last minute decision to go out! The Talbot is lovely historical pub/restaurant, that the staff couldn't have been more helpful. Will definitely be going back soon! Mark Teverson
