The Tavern at Diamond Mills
Executive Chef Giuseppe Napoli received his training at the Culinary Institute of America. All of the options he provides at The Tavern at Diamond Mills are handcrafted and many menu items are made with locally-sourced ingredients.
Whether dining al fresco on the Grand Terrace overlooking the majestic falls, or cozying up in a booth by the fire of the main dining room, The Tavern at Diamond Mills is the perfect place to meet friends, have a romantic dinner or grab a quick bite at the bar.
No fresh pepper or fresh grated cheese....chicken parm with pasta, really?????The one server outside was very good but his support team failed him... soda was late , dessert menu was late,,, I said just bring me the check ... the bread guy and the delivery assistant bring food out , they shouldn’t just make the delivery and go back . They should look at other tables and see if there are any needs, dishes to back, refills, cheese, salt pepper etc etc.... why isn’t your management staff taking care of these ez and much needed training steps... look... it took me just 2 minutes to type this
They didnt tell us we would be eating in n a separate location and that a band would be blasting while we ate!!
The food was great and the views are amazing. The service was terrible that night. We saw several people walk out. I have been there several times before and it was outstanding. I am hoping it was just an off night. Our drinks took forever. We got our appetizers before our drinks and it still took at least 10 more minutes to get the drinks. One meal didn't come out until after we were all done. Even the check took too long, we had to go in and get it ourselves.
Excellent food, exceeds many NYC high end restaurants. Great table setting and presentation, service feels like you are in a family restaurant somewhere in Italy. High ceiling but quiet room, and million-dollar view on the river and waterfall. Wish to dine there daily...
The only reason I didn’t give more stars is that I went for the oysters which are on the regular menu but they didn’t have any.
worst service ever experienced. had to clear the table myself and get myself another glass of wine. no one was waiting on us. each time a course came it was someone different. no silverware either. no light at table so couldn't see the food. very good food though - but not worth the miserable experience. and it was supposed to be in celebration of my husband's birthday.
Sat at my table for 20 minutes and never even had a drink order taken.
This is a nice place for a weekend brunch, special occasion, or just a fancy meal without breaking the bank. The location/view is amazing overlooking a great waterfall. I highly recommend visiting during the summer. Outdoor and indoor seating is great. It was nice that the restaurant opened up two large doors to the outside so that we could experience the fresh air while sitting indoors. The service did take awhile...I'm not sure if that was intended to provide a relaxed dining experience or not.
We did end up having a good amount of confusion with a few of our meal orders due to a poor menu description and a computer input error, but it is a testament to the restaurant's professionalism and management that they were able to quickly resolve the situations in a satisfactory manner. Even with this hiccup, I would still come back and recommend it to others.
I took my father there for Father's Day brunch and it was wonderful. I was expecting it to be overpriced but it was actually a good value as the food was absolutely delicious. The prices were actually pretty comparable to some other local places as well but the food was much better. The potatoes were fantastic, the best I've ever had and way better than when I make them! They also do a pretty good bloody mary and my goal has always been to find the best bloody mary around. The entire experience was lovely. We will definitely visit again to try more things!
We have been visiting Saugerties for about 5 years to visit Catskill Animal Sanctuary and have eaten at The Tavern periodically in that time. We stopped going as frequently after we went vegan because there were only a limited number of vegan options on the menu. But we decided to visit again and overall, we enjoyed our experience there. The dining room is attractive and tables are well-spaced so we don't feel crowded. Service is friendly and professional. They aim for " formal, 5* star" standards, although it falls short a bit (e.g. main courses delivered before I'd finished my appetizer, a second glass of wine that didn't show up until late in the meal).
We appreciated that the menu was clearly labelled with vegetarian, vegan, pescetarian and gluten-free options. Although we're not GF, we appreciate the restaurant's efforts to be as gluten-free as possible, since this gives diners more options. We do wish they had made a similar effort for vegans. For example, there was only two inherently vegan options (the charred fava beans and a mushroom soup) among the range of appetizers, soups, salads. That said, the fava beans were incredible! - probably one of my favourite dishes of the year.
We were also quite disappointed to see that the Tavern offered its version of the Impossible Burger, but couldn't provide a vegan burger bun to go with it. I can live with asking for my burger without cheese and without mayonnaise but seriously, a lettuce wrap is no substitute for burger bun, especially for a $15 burger that already foregoes half the toppings. How hard can it be to stock some vegan buns? Better yet, why not have a vegan/GF bun as the default option for burger? Similarly, how about buying (or developing) one or two varieties of vegan cheese (as an alternative) for your pizzas and salads (most of which come with cheese)?
Bottom line - nice try but could do better. Next time, we hope to see more vegan options.
It’s was good
Great first Friday for June. Great food. Great choice of food on the buffet. Beautiful setting outside by the waterfall.
Beautiful atmosphere but if there is a function upstairs it can get very noisy as there is no barrier and potentially an echo.
Food is really good and prices are reasonable.
Service was so-so, pleasant but waitress wasn’t informed on dishes and when asked a question was basically reading off the menu (something I could have done) .
My family and I have been going to Diamond Mills Mother’s Day brunch for the past 5 years and each year it losses something. They no longer have shrimp cocktail and the assortment of food keeps dwindling. Some of the food was cold and everything looked picked over. The presentation of the food tables looked messy. I understand Mother’s Day is a busy day but we have to wait a ridiculous amount of time for the waiter to come to our table and ask about coffee or juice. The location is lovely but we were put at a table that was meant for 2 people instead of 3. The third seat had its back to everyone and was facing the wall. It was not a welcoming feeling.
We were able to eat outside, as our hostess was agreeable enough too get us a heat lamp. The menu has been recently revised and the food was consistently good.
My family and I have attended the Easter brunch for the last three years. In previous years we've had a great time, left full and felt taken care of, also we really enjoyed the quality of the food. This year though, not so much. The food was not up to the standard of previous years. We had to track down our server(and others) to get drink refills and even the check. The family all agreed that we might not return next year...
Very nice. Exceptional food, although almost everything had more salt than I would have preferred.
Food and service were fabulous. Definitely looking forward to going back!
It’s a beautiful restaurant but the food looked better than it tasted
Stunning, high-ceilinged restaurant overlooking a waterfall thrilled us when we entered on Saturday evening. Elders appreciate the elevator from the parking lot entrance to the upstairs dining room. Lovely private party room next to the large main dining room. Delicious, unusual dips come with the good, grainy bread. However, our food was oh, so disappointing. Homemade linguini w Mahogany clams with slightly sweet tomato sauce was quite good, but the highly yelp-touted duck with pumpkin gnocchi was so bad we sent both orders back. The chewy duck breast looked and tasted like hanger steak, the confit leg dried out with odd flavor. The hostess, to her credit, whisked both orders off our table and (eventually, after our companion was more than halfway through her meal) sent out new orders: a delicious but salty lamb shank w even saltier kale and whole grain, and a tiny portion of lasagna so heavy on spinach, zucchini, and a green salsa/pest/chimmichura? sauce on top that any lasagna flavor was lost. The duck entrees were comped. The servers were attentive and apologetic. This dining space is too lofty and attractive, with its multiple charming paintings and watercolors on the walls, to be brought down with a thud by such poorly executed food. Would recommend for the decor and summer patio, but not for the food we had. Perhaps their brunches are better.
Amazing restaurant for happy hour, brunch and dinner - everything was SO delicious (pancakes especially were the best we've ever had) and the staff was so amazing as well highly reccomend!!
Great meal. The food was prepared as ordered and served with the perfect spacing between courses. Excellent service, in fact the service is beyond excellent. Our server was knowledgeable, friendly and attentive. The only issue is the size of the room. The ceiling is so high that I feel like I am eating in an airplane hanger. It is also very difficult to keep a room that size comfortable temperature wise. Knowing that, my wife brings a sweater just in case. Nice place with good food. First Fridays are also a very good value.
We loved our dinner at the diamond mill tavern. The staff were fantastic. The food was good. Especially the mussels. Would definitely go back!
Hello! We are happy you enjoyed your time with us. The mussels are one of my favorite dishes as well. We look forward to seeing you again soon! Warmest Regards, Megan Fells Director of Food & Beverage Diamond Mills Hotel & Tavern
We had a great meal and an overall great time at Diamond Mills. The service was fantastic and the desserts were to die for.
We had a wonderful brunch! Service and food outstanding!
Absolutely breathtaking view of the Esopus Waterfalls. Beautifully decorated for the season. Only problem. buffet salmon sometimes not readily available at the 2:45 pm seating did not see any prime rib. Did they run out of this menu item at this time? Staff was very friendly, helpful and accommodating. My new favorite luxury restaurant in Ulster County. Thank you for the beautiful holiday brunch.
Overall it was not bad. The acoustics were a bit challenging so the music playing
Poor service. Didn’t replenish buffet. Buffet items cold. No spoon for coffee or dessert. Overcharged on bill for something not ordered
Excellent food, service and atmosphere. Highly recommended.
Love looking out over the falls while enjoying a nice meal. No disappointment in food or drink. We go for holiday celebrating. Special but not a bank breaker.
Met mother for lunch on a Wed. at noon to celebrate Christmas. Place was empty. Beautiful building with gorgeous dining room and gigantic window overlooking view of the water. We sat in a cozy, comfortable booth. Our server was very sweet, knowledgeable, attentive without hovering, accurate. Her timing was good, overall. My mother drank wine. I had soda. I have celiac disease and requested a gluten free meal. Our server listed many options from the menu for me to choose from. I ordered a salad with no croutons with sliced flank steak. It was cooked medium as I had ordered it and it was tender and delicious. I expected more salad. My mother really disliked her pizzetta with mozzarella and red sauce. She said the crust was too hard. It was obvious to me the cheese and sauce were very very scanty. The price was low but we definitely would prefer to pay $5 more to get a decent pizzetta. She didn't want to order something to replace the lousy pizzetta. We shared my flank steak instead. Although our server asked how our meals were when we were finished, I wish she had offered my mother something when she said her meal was less than mediocre. My mother didn't eat even 25% of it. A discount on the item maybe? For dessert I had espresso brulee. The expresso flavor and the level of sweetness were subtle. The presentation was unique. It reminded me of creamy pudding. I loved it! My mother ordered cappuccino cheesecake. She enjoyed her dessert as well. She was impressed with the artful preparation. The coffee was outstanding! The prices were reasonable. Although the desserts seemed to be priced high, they were actually well worth it. The server never rushed us even though we were there for 3 hours. I would recommend this place and will definitely return!
The food was great...when it eventually came out. 45 minutes after ordering we flagged a random person (our server was nowhere to be found) and asked if our appetizers (salads) might make an appearance soon. Within minutes they came out and were delicious. I suspect that means they were sitting ready in the kitchen and no one bothered to check on them. When our entrees came out, we were given the wrong ones. Our server was nice but not especially apologetic and allowed us to believe this was our oversight. No one ever came by to refill our water. We again had to flag a random person to request more water and when he did come he refilled only one person's glass. when we asked if someone else could have some more water, he refilled a second person's glass but left the table with two of the four glasses empty and not because he had run out of water. It was really bizarre and we had a good laugh about it at the table. Overall this was a disappointing dining experience. The venue itself is lovely with a great view of the Falls. The service however was really lacking in many ways. We will not return. You're better off going to the Love Bites or Miss Lucy's cafe up the street.
We have enjoyed our Easter and Thanksgiving Holiday meals at Diamond Mills during 2014. A request for a Vegan Dish at Thanksgiving was provided at no extra cost and our guest was very pleased with her meal. The service was excellent, the food was much better than our meals at Mohonk House. The atmosphere was relaxed; we never felt rushed to leave. We will definitely being going back. Most recently, my husband and I enjoyed a New Year's day brunch which was also very good but we would have liked one or two soups added to the menu.
The brunch in the tavern was an excellent choice for New Years. The food was excellent, the salmon outstanding. The room was sunny and vibrant. My only reservation was the server, who attempted to rush us after brunch, during coffee. We are cognisant of the need to refill tables, but did not dally or overstay our meal, so the constant request to bring our check was unnecessary. That was the only negative of our lovely day.
Omelette station backed up and no sense of urgency. Replenishing of food was taking a long time. It was very mediocre food compared to all our previous experiences. Service was very spotty and almost felt like new staff was given to run the show. Definitely not worth a trip up for Holiday Meals!
Diamond Mill is our go-to place for lunch when shopping in the quaint village of Saugerties, or for celebrating a special event. The food is outstanding, the staff friendly and accomodating, and the view over-looking the falls spectacular.
A nice New Year's Day...staff all willing to be helpful and cheerful..the omelet was yummie, and appreciated the healthful salads, along with all the breakfast items...even more veggies would be great!
My husband and I went with great expectations. We read a lot of good things about Dionond Mills (which included many references to the Culinary Institute of America) Unfortunately, it did not live up to the hype. The food took a LONG time to come out. I was really looking forward to some great salmon, it came out with gray, soggy skin. That is the ultimate fish cooking sin. Not only was the skin undercooked, but the fish was overcooked, I'm not sure how they managed that. Everything else on my plate was simply normal, not bad, but not good. The only thing that met my expectations was the bill, I paid for an impeccable meal, and got something that should have come with a McDonald's price tag.
The staff, the food and the entire dining experience at Diamond Mills was far beyond our initial expectations. Friendliness and helpfulness of the staff to the exquisite food served truly makes Diamond Mills a must go to for any occassion.
Table water served at room temp tasted bad. Bread nothing special. Grilled calamari tasted very good, short on calamari. Salads more than ample, could cut size of these and not be a problem. We had surf and turf and for money were very disappointed. Meat was good but again in short supply. Surf was 1/2 rock lobster tail and meat from a claw of a lobster much bigger than where the tail came from, very very disappointing. main course meal plate was not warmed and food got cold very fast. Would not got back for dinner will try buffet sometime.
