The food and the outlook were fantastic. The avocado sorbet was delicious. We had a late lunch come early dinner as we came into Mallaig on the afternoon train, so we were the only ones in the restaurant.

When we arrived in Mallaig the kitchen of The Terrace was just closed (20.30). We had the possibility to choose only between 2 or 3 plates. Very expensive place.

Great location with good views out to sea and the isles of Skye and Rum. Menu choice limited to seafood dishes. Waiter got order wrong, then no bread with second soup and felt we were overcharged for soups as a starter whereas one was with a sandwich and should have been cheaper.

Restaurant with good view to the Isle of Skye, Eigg und Rum. The menu is small, but every taste will find something. The service is young and inexperienced. Therefore sometimes not professional. The food has good standard, some meals are a surprise by taste.

Staff were very friendly and efficient - I’d recommend any one visiting Mallaig and looking for the perfect spot with delicious food to stop off here .

Stunning food and views. We ate an early dinner here between trips on the Jacobite train. It allowed plenty of time to eat the delicious seafood and enjoy the stunning views before returning to the station to catch the return train. Thank you for a lovely experience.

A very disappointing evening. The Terrace did not meet our exceptions which were based on the on-line advertisements indicating an up-market dining experience. The menus are presented as photocopied A4 sheets on clipboards which have been well used, the menu is not as extensive as the adverts suggest, the napkins are paper, the waiters were not fully versed/trained. My meal of Cod was a relatively small portion for the price and the cod was tasteless. I opted for a Scottish dessert of Cranachan which should be served with fresh raspberries, ice cream, cream and toasted oats all served in a sundae glass. What was served was nothing like it! My wife's meal was mediocre, with what tasted like second day sponge for a sticky toffee pudding. On presentation of our £62 bill for two courses plus a drink each, I informed the maitre-de of our feelings. His reply was "I'll tell the chef...that's what we always serve for Cranachan". Not good enough! Try Google chef!

I had a lovely view of the Small Isles from my table. The staff were attentive and polite. The food was very good. The only little issue I had was that the bottom of the brownie was hard as if warmed in a microwave for too long. My starter and main course were excellent. I enjoyed my meal and would recommend this restaurant.

Found this restaurant through Trip Advisor and we were very happy with everything about it. Arrived on the morning Jacobite Steam train, and while everyone else on the train sought lunch near the station, we made the short walk up the hill to The Terrace. The food was delicious and the views wonderful. A perfect respite before taking the train back to Ft. William. Highly recommend!

Good hotel experience marred by poor restaurant delivery. Some key items off menu by 7pm. We each ordered a main course. Staff delivered a starter with some similarity of name but very different ingredients to my wife. We sent this back, pointing out we ordered two mains. Two dishes were then delivered, one of which was the same (wrong) starter! The waiting staff had no idea of what the dishes should look like. We sent the second wrong one back, and an approximately correct main appeared though missing at least one key named ingredient...And then both mains were distinctly average. We did not follow on with a dessert! We spoke very gently to the man in charge as we left, who was apologetic but offered no compensation, was only partially aware of the catalogue of errors, and had made no attempt to remedy the unfolding disaster in flight. Could not honestly recommend food or service - which is a shame given the investment in new terrace etc.

We found food at The Terrace Restaurant quite average really. I asked for a Prawn Cocktail starter, but there were no prawns. I opted for the (recommended) langoustines which were ok but served with an oily dip. For mains, we both had the scallop dish which is also served as a starter. The scallops were served on a large plate with tiny florets of roasted cauliflower, a sauce and large chunks of black pudding. I'm not exaggerating here - the black pudding dominated the look and taste of the dish. And I suppose we should have asked beforehand, but there were no potatoes, rice or similar. We had to ask for more bread to eat with it. At £25 for the dish, we felt it lacked imagination and were quite disappointed. We couldn't fault the service, and the wine was good and reasonably priced.

We road the Jacobite train into Mallaig and had the short layover for dinner before heading back. We got reservations using open table for my wife’s birthday. We got a table facing the sea and the view was incredible. The wait staff were all local teens and they were awesome. Great attitude and fun to talk to. We had fish & chips, boeuf bourguignon, and a veggie tart. All the food was delicious. If we find ourselves back in Mallaig we’d definitely eat here again.

A short menu, but all done very, very well. I would have liked more local seafood on the menu, since the best shellfish in the world is right on the doorstep and nobody in the area seems to be cooking it that well. Ironic, since there is clearly some serious, serious talent in the kitchen. The open kitchen has a contemporary London feel about the place actually. Presentation excellent, flavours mind blowing if sometimes a little heavy on the salt. Serving staff are knowledgeable. Wines reasonable in price and quality.

service was OK. good location. I had the fish and chips. Fish was beautiful. Chips were old and cold. To be fair though, I said this to the waiter and they bought me very hot fresh ones out instead. I had the chocolate brownie for dessert which was lovely. thought it was a bit pricey for what it was, but overall fine.

So. The service was quite poor, I don't know if this was because of Easter celebrations, but only young and seemingly inexperienced servers, which made us wait for 30 minutes before someone took our order. The food was not very much to our liking, and the wait before getting it didn't improve the experience.
