We have a diverse and thoughtful menu, locally-sourced and seasonally adjusted, as well as a comprehensive range of fine wines and beers from all over the world.
'The Vintner' derives its name from the year 1600, when John Smith traded, along with his wife, as a wine merchant (vintner) in this building. It is more than likely that William Shakespeare purchased his wine from here!
I have been visiting Vintners for as long as I can remember, and I have never had poor service or a poor meal Vintners is EXCELLENT in all aspects.
As always, great food, service and atmosphere! Will be back
Always fabulous food and service with an excellent menu selection. We had 2 courses for £16 which was great value for money.
Fantastic food and great service in a lovely old building. Would definitely recommend.
Great food and drink, served by friendly welcoming staff
Nice ambience in Stratford upon Avon, good food. Easy booking
We have been dining at the Vintner for years now. We use it whenever we come to the RSC. It is a most excellent place. The food has always tasted good. Naturally the menu has changed over the years but this has never affected the quality other than for the better. I like a glass of beer and have always found that someone always finds a decent lager or beer to refresh the palate, for example, "Longhorn" by the local Purity brewery, is I think a good example of this practice. Well done all concerned.
Love this restaurant. Food is always good, slowly working my way through the menu! Service is always attentitve and pleasant, always a pleasure to go there
We have eaten here a number of times and the food and service are always excellent
A wonderful place to eat and very reasonably priced.
Will return time and time again :)
Good food, service ok - could be sharper.
All 5 star.. except for too many people just inside the door when we arrived. They were just having a drink and standing a bit too close to the front door. Not good when you have mobility issues (disabled). We were sat right next to the crowd too when seated.. and it was very loud. We couldn’t have a conversation until they had left. It was like using the front entrance area as a pub!
Saying that.. the food is amazing, the service is faultless and the atmosphere was just lovely after the crowd had vanished.
We have been many times before.. and have already booked to go again.
The meat is top quality. The fillet steak is the best I have had, hands down!
The fish is always fresh and delicious too.
Great wine menu and good selection of beers.
We all enjoyed it. Thanks Guys.
Superb, delicious food and great service. Would definitely recommend this venue
Greeted as soon as we arrived and taken to our table which was nicely positioned and had plenty of room around it so didn’t feel crowded by other diners. Efficient service, very friendly staff. All our food was excellent although the two members of party who had the fish stew felt it was a little overpriced for what you got. However they both said it was very tasty and well cooked, just a little more content would have been better. Would definitely eat at the Vintner in the future.
I booked a table to celebrate our anniversary and said as much, yet we were positioned on a small table at the top of the stairs - not a very nice setting for a couple. The menu was uninspiring and each dish was not quite executed well - good concept but little things lacking which let them down. The service was really what made us sad, very brusk as though they wanted us out and nearly slicing my face off with a hot plate! Shame
Standard of both food and service as as good as ever, keep up the standard
Lovely atmosphere, nice food, good value for money.
Always dependable pre theatre dining. You can choose from set menu or a la carte and they will make sure you are served in good time for the theatre. Staff are friendly and helpful.
We had an amazing meal in great surroundings. Food excellent and the service was attentive without being obvious. We will definitely have a return visit x
Lovely food, lovely staff. A perfect post matinee or pre theatre meal
Excellent food at reasonable price. Staff were very good
We had a very pleasant lunch and would go back. The chicken and mango was lovely.
The restaurant had been recommended to us and we booked to have supper following a visit to the theatre. We thought the menu choices were poor, especially the desserts. My friend and I ordered steak and it was like leather - we could hardly cut through it. The presentation was pathetic - the steak, one small grilled tomato a flat mushroom ion a large plate and chips in a bowl that looked as though they have come from McDonalds. My friend had the chocolate pudding which was swimming in sauce, all in all, a poor anddisappointing experience. I complained to the duty boss who refunded £10 each with a promise that the manager would ring the following day but we haven't heard from him 48 hours later.
Food same as usual but very poor service. Think we would still be sitting there waiting if we hadn't been forceful in asking her to cone over. Although it was a shame to interrupt her chats.
Excellent location, atmosphere and food and could not fault the staff service, definitely one to recommend. We went for pre-theatre meal and drinks
We have visit Stratford for many years and Vintner is always one of the places we eat; sometimes more than once. the ambiance is characterful and pleasant and the service professional and friendly. The food is varied and interesting and the wine list good.
Wonderful as always!
Have been coming to this restaurant for over 20 years, always enjoyed it and has remained consistent . We enjoyed all of our meals and the Malbec was excellent . The staff were all friendly and efficient . Would highly recommend if you want properly cooked fresh food in a relaxed atmosphere.
What a lovely meal chosen from a varied menu and served speedily and with aplomb. A word of caution to those unsteady on their legs....toilets are up steep stairs!
Delicious meal. Limited choice on the set menu, but that is standard. Very quick, out in plenty of time for the theatre. More vegetables please! (2 bits of asparagus is hardly going to make a dent in my 5-a-day!)
Pleasing & comfortable dining experience, good food, nicely served.
Always recommended. First rate service and consistently high quality.
Excellent value for money first class service will return in July
Our favourite restaurant in Stratford on Avon. We always come here.
We love to eat here when I Stratford, however this time round we found the waitress that seated us came across as quite abrupt. She took our drinks order and asked for our food order at the same time, I had the crispy pork salad as a starter, beware if you expect a salad you will be disappointed, it was a few stems of watercress, however lovely not worth the price, likewise the mushroom burger, my partner has no bread so essentially they charge £10 for a portobello mushroom (one) and salad, with no bun it may have been a nice touch to have added another mushroom! My sea bass, crushed Jersey royals and asparagus was lovely, two asparagus spears! Again at nearly £20 a couple more of those may have been nice. The souffle was sent back as it was cold - unforgivable really considering it was twice baked. The people on a nearby table had pate and prawn cocktail starters without enough bread, when they asked our waitress for more she insisted they could only have a bread basket? Why when you clearly don't get enough in the first place. I know it's all about making money but they should also be about good food at a good price. Sadly I think The Vintner falls short on that respect. Lunch for 2, 2 courses with a fruit juice each came to £50, paid for with a Christmas gift of a voucher so not too bad but if not would have been a pricey lunch.
Excellent food and service
A delicious meal for my husband's birthday. We both had scallops as a starter and they were perfectly cooked. Delicious. I had Sea Bass and my husband had plaice. The only criticism was the vegetables which were carrots and shredded cabbage. Not very inspiring either to look at or eat. Since mine only came with potatoes and 2 spears of asparagus I would have had some of his vegetables. As it was he sent some back. My husband judges a restaurant by its Creme Brullee. The custard was perfect, creamy, firm and not grainy. The caramel topping could have been a bit thicker. This is our favourite restaurant in Stratford.
Nice welcome and staff excellent but unobtrusive. Food was delicious and the ambience was great, people conversing and enjoying but it was relaxing with a good vibe.
We use Vintners for pre theatre evening meals, for the Rugby Reunions and for family occasions. The visits to Vintners have been over many years,
On all occasions we have found the meals are good VFM and the ambience is always very acceptable.
Great meal in quite a quaint setting. Service could have been a bit more attentive at times. Good location in town and easy to find.
