Great service and food, the waiter veru kind and the food came in short time
Roast chicken salad was a bit ‘wet’ and tasteless, but the service was very friendly and the ambience on the terrace was excellent
We enjoyed our meal and the ambiance of the restaurant. Fresh, tasty food with a wide selection. Good cocktails too. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Would go back if in the area again!
We were greeted with smiles and warmth, great first impression which made us feel valued and welcomed immediately.
We were shown to our seats and the service kicked off and was fluent and timely from the monuments we arrived. We were attended to very well.
The food was tasty and well cooked. We both had the scallop starter, (I wasn’t a fan) and for the mains I had the carb and prawn pasta which was out of this world! Full of flavour. My friend had the steak. Drinks were well made and presented beautifully, I started with Gin and tonics but stole my friends cocktail at a certain point as they just looked to good!
The restaurant is nicely presented and I would return as soon as! A great place to grab a bite, or have a date. Relaxed atmosphere.
Had the corn fed chicken salad, bread and a sparkling water and it came to £27. The chicken was so shredded it was like mush. It said it came with a vinaigrette which, albeit, tasted nice but ended up consisting of just pure oil. I was on a strict diet and this was the only healthy thing on the menu that I could have chosen. In this case £17 for a bit of mushy chicken and salad leaves left a bitter taste in my mouth. My partner then had the scallops (which were good) and a lamb steak that was, again, covered in oil. His side of potatoes came out 3/4 of the way through his meal, which we had to remind the waiter to bring once already. When the dauphinoise potatoes did arrive they were raw.
All in all we paid £74 for this terrible meal and below average service, and we didn't even get a seat outside so had to sit in the boiling heat of the restaurant inside. We could have overlooked the latter if the food was good. We wish we hadn't wasted our money.
Poor food for the price you pay.
Good place ruined by the poor food
Fantastic location both in summer and winter, good menu and great service. Perfect for Sunday brunch, week lunch, dinner with friends. Good for a date too.
Lovely to sit outside - it had been raining during the day but we had heaters and enjoyed the evening. Staff couldn’t to enough to make out evening enjoyable.
Food and service are consistently good. Really fun atmosphere and comfortable seating.
Brilliant location right next to Regents Canal that’s at its best on a sunny day. Very popular busy place with clearly well heeled clientele and so the service (although friendly) can be a bit erratic! Go with a relaxed attitude and you’ll be fine!
Waterways was quite accommodating with my late booking. The choice of food was good, however, overall the taste was average and inconsistent. Our waiter was lovely, lively and an awesome sense of humour. But orders did get confused and we had to remind them to bring items too regularly. I don't want to overly criticise because overall it a lovely evening. A lovely and busy venue.
Standard spot for a lovely evening on the canal. We didn’t eat anything although dishes around us looked delicious. Fair service and excellent ambience.
lamb was almost acceptable despite price. good average. certainly the location is nice but restaurant needs to work on the quality of the food.
We had a big meal here with some kids and friends on a rainy Saturday afternoon. We sat outside as the umbrellas were up and the weather although a bit wet, was temperate enough to sit outside. We had the outdoor heater on in our section but then those closest to the heater got too hot so they asked if we they could provide us blankets instead which also worked well.
The wait service was friendly and helpful and the food came quickly and was well made. We had the lobster burgers which were meaty with big pieces and tasty dressing. We also had a lovely pan grilled salmon with crispy skin, and some grilled squid appetiser which had a good sweet and spicy chili sauce but the squid was a bit to chewy for my taste.
That being said, this was a great little find in the centre of the city - you overlook the canal and have people walking by so you have some scenery as well. Street parking nearby is also easy and free on weekends.
We will certainly go back if we are in the area. Its nothing to trek an hour for, but if you are near by Paddington area - this is a really lovely option for a summer meal. They also do groups as we had a table of about 20 ppl in a sectioned off area which looked perfect for a big friends lunch or family get together.
Great lunch Food was really good and waiter top class. Cannot wait to go back
We went for Sunday brunch at the Waterway and managed to get a table on the terrace with a view off the canal. We only had a light meal with coffee and non- alcoholic drinks, the food was good as was the service. It’s the location more than anything that sells it, either on a hot summers day or an evening. As expected it’s a popular place with families and tourists as well as locals.
Having previously been to the Waterway, I recommend this venue for a Saturday lunch with friends but I now regret suggesting it.
From being sat at a small table, to getting our order wrong and having to wait a long time for our food to arrive - steak was overcooked when asked for medium, it was not a pleasurable experience and will not be heading back anytime soon. We had to wait for 20min for our drinks to arrive - G&T's don't really take that long and the bar was not that busy.
I don't know if it was just our luck on the day but it has really put me off. Management should have at least made an effort to make up for our what we were experiencing.... but nothing
Great location for some tasty food. Duck salad recommended.
Great location for summer evening dining .
The rotisserie main dish and tuna steak were terrific .
Calamari starter is a bit spartan : both flavoring and portion size .
But overall , a really good dining experience. Nice positive vibe .
The Waterway is in a great location right by the canal. The food was nice and the service was ok.
There was a mistake with our order and the staff congregated to discuss whether it was our fault or our waiters very audibly near our table. It felt a little uncomfortable. Despite this, I think the staff realised this and were very nice afterward. The other downside it that the nicest area to sit and eat is outside by the canal. Unfortunately, as smoking is permitted in the outside dining area it slightly ruins the experience.
Overall, a nice meal; however, the service and smoking slightly let it down.
The food was really good! Staff could have been friendlier and were not overly helpful when we asked for a vegan meal. Nice setting and food was served quickly.
This wasn't a cheap meal, but well worth it for my niece who was turning 21. We had an amazing time from the very start. Our server, Housain?? was a lovely Tunisian young man who took very good care of us. Everyone loved the meals that they picked. We especially loved the 'virgin' cocktails that we each picked. (There were a few young ones with us). The sun was shining, there was a beautiful breeze coming through the patio. The canal to our side and the lovely chatter of happy diners. Thank you Waterway for once again proving that you are the best! Great service, great food, fantastic atmosphere for all occasions!
Very poor service, the food is average.
Beautiful location with delicious food
Pricey in comparison to portion sizes
Great for a special occasion probably not for everyday dining
Great location. Friendly if a little haphazard service. Ribs were disappointing. Other food good.
The main receptionist was a bit rude ( we arrived early and wanted to sit in the external area, as requested in the reservation). She said that there was just dining internal tables and if we wanted to sit outside we should wait in the street, but there was more than 10 empty tables. A lady arrived after me without a reservation and got a table outside with no problems. This was very rude, but our waiter helped us and found an alternative table after insisting with “his boss”. The atmosphere was awesome and the drinks and food too, just this inconvenience in the beginning that was a bit stressful.
Very friendly and attentive staff. Good was great. We had veggie meals, fish and lamb. All prepared and cooked very well. Sat outside and enjoy the canal view and relaxed ambience. We’ll definitely come back next time we visit London.
A good venue for a drink in the summer and great location. It was a very busy Saturday night although we'd requested an outside table were seated inside, but did spot some people being shown to outside tables both before and after we were seated. The food was ok, although the burger was a tad fatty and with gristle, may be they'd run out and had to make a new batch with what they had. A good selection on the menu though and wine list, but it didn't quite stack up to both the price or expectation, which was a shame as it could have become a regular haunt. That said, would return for a drink only.
Really good. Been a few tones over the last couple of years but felt this was best yet. Friendly staff , nicely decorated, buzzing on a Friday evening with the sun out. We had a tuna steak, lobster burger, roast chicken and ribs. Honestly all very good no complaints at all.
Unfortunately our experience fell a little short of our expectations. We went on a Friday evening, the sun was out and this brought out many people for after work drinks. The pub was really full and being a quite small venue, this meant that it was incredibly noisy, even in the dining area. It was a shame as we couldn’t really relax, especially as we are both partially deaf.
We felt that the food and service was a bit rushed, and therefore the food was almost good, but didn’t quite hit the spot.
The canal alongside the pub again promised much, but this was thick with green algae, so although not any fault of the pub, this put a downer on our experience too.
So, even though we didn’t have the best time, we are sure that on a different day the experience may well have been better.
Lovely location and good vibe. Food was tasty but service was very slow on a busy summer evening.
Food was good. Ser vice very good initially but declined after food was served.
It was really busy with not enough staff. A waiter spilled a drink across our table and didn’t apologise or offer to clean it up until we insisted. Had to ask 3 times for the bill with taxi waiting outside. Would not recommend if a sunny day.
The perfect place for afternoon lunch on a warm day
We love the Waterway and come here often. The food and atmosphere is great. I was really disappointed though when we arrived and although I had specifically requested a table outside as it was a boiling evening, I was told that we were going to be seated inside. The host insisted that I had been phoned in advance which was not true. It would have been better if they had just apologised and admitted their mistake. Eventually they agreed to seat us in the pub area of the garden, which was ok but uncomfortable for two people in the party as they had bad backs.
staff, food, ambiance everything fantastic, yet digestif selection was... well poor: they did not know what Grappa is (didn't have it either), Sambuca was served with coffee beans collected from Methusalem himself, glasses didn't match with the spirit.
Rather than vacation, barstaff should be sent to Italy or France to learn about life, style, treat and how to crown a good dinner. Customers will like it.....
Great if you get the right table, service levels inconsistent ie. dependant on member of staff ..
This waa my worst experience ever - and that is saying a lot. Missing meals, food not cooked properly, arrogant rude manager who was irritated that we dared to complain and was very happy to throw his staff under the bus. I sent a direct email to the restaurant afterwards detailing just how dismal the experience was - they couldn’t even be bothered to respond. Stay clear of this restaurant at all costs.
Waterway is a great place to enjoy your Sunday lunch next to the river. The quality of the food is average and a bit overpriced. I used to be a very frequent customer 7 years ago where food back then used to be fantastic!!! But of course loads of things have changed in London since then... I recommend it but don’t get too enthusiastic with your order. Keep it minimal and enjoy the amazing ambiance!!
Plus points:Always a great meet up place with friends and family
I love enjoying the terrace regardless of weather -those heaters are just so perfect and look good too
Food always yummy😀
Not so good : our waiter was smiley, friendly and appeared very attentive at first ie repeated our food order and drinks
Sadly we were offered two plates of food but not what we ordered. Then my dish arrived and my sons After a wait of around 5 minutes my friends food was delivered but nit what he ordered It was ribs instead if the duck ☹️
After some confusion and an apology from our waiter and another 12 minute wait he got his duck dish
When this happens it really winds people up and our food gets cold before the other dish arrives too. These things happen, I get it. But maybe this would have been less irritating if it had been handled more empathetically
