The Western Club Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Perfect for a romantic meal. Food was great, service impeccable (timing between courses, available but not over attentive, friendly but not overly so), perfect lighting level, quiet despite a decent amount of other diners. It was also incredible value (less than £40 a head for three courses (no wine)). It was also a beautiful building with a good looking entrance. Highly recommend
The restaurant was great!
We ate 2 course from the market menu, and though choices are limited, we think we couldn't go wrong with any option they all sounded delicious. We were very happy with the mains and desserts we went for, taste was very good, good portion size.
Service was very good as well. Staff were friendly and professional. Meals came at good pace.
Would totally recommend and we'll certainly be going back, maybe next time for the a la carte menu!
We had a fantastic meal in Saturday night, our waitress was attentive without constantly talking to us. One of the most hospitable restaurants that I have been to - when I had mentioned that I was lactose intolerant when I booked everything was sorted for when we arrived (right down to the amouse bouche).
I have attended this restaurant several times in the past 18 months. It is as good now as it was the first time I ate there. The ambience is peaceful and comfortable. We were well looked after by waiting staff who glided into to help when required without being overly obtrusive.Personally I like that kind of service. They have a new chef at the restaurant and he in my opinion has provided a fantastic menu. The curried seafood is wonderful.I am getting carried away with the main course however I should mention the tempura prawns were equally good. This is not a restaurant where you dive in for a quick bite.Go there and soak it all up and let the staff serve you a meal worth waiting for. Will be back
Great food and service. Only (very slight) issue was that we were left for quite some time after our last course and took us quite some time to get someone's attention for the bill. Staff had been very attentive up until this point so would definitely recommend.
This was a real gem and one of the best dining experiences we had on our three week trip. It is so much better than the Trip Advisor rating, which is excellent. The Western Club Restaurant is refined and has an elegant ambience. Both the food and the service were at the top of the field. Enjoyed a glass of champagne and canapes in the bar followed by three course a la carte. One of the mains was judged by my wife as the best dish of the trip! High praise indeed. And the prices, while not cheap, are certainly quite reasonable for the outstanding food and service.
The restaurant interior is elegantly decorated and makes it feel a venue worthy of a special occasion. There is a view into Royal Exchange Square, which makes a romantic backdrop. The service was good: formal but friendly. We had a lovely meal though for some reason, and it didn't seem too busy, we weren't seated to eat until over half an hour after we arrived (on time). It was suggested we sat for cocktails, which we did, though the list was a little limited to 'the classics.' There is a cosy area set aside for drinks. By the time we were seated, at a really lovely table, we were so hungry, we went straight for mains, though the starters sounded great. There were lots of tempting dishes on the menu. We tried the duck and the pork belly - both really sumptuous, with outstanding sauces, and great potatoes (fondant with the duck, amazing sweet potato with the pork belly, borderline too sweet for me). Can't fault the food, cooked to a high standard. Sides also perfectly cooked. A good choice of wines were available by the glass, though I would have preferred to share a bottle from the interesting list - but the cocktails had taken the edge off our thirst a little! We had the table well into the evening with other diners and weren't hurried away. Will definitely return to enjoy another evening.
Creative modern cooking using excellent Scottish ingredients. The dining room is situated upstairs in a corner of Royal Exchange Square and enjoys lovely views, especially at night when the square is lit up. The room itself is sophisticated yet relaxed, the service is attentive and the food perfectly executed. The wine list offers a good variety and broad price range. In summary while not being a cheap dining option it offers good value for the quality of food and setting - we will be back!
