A café by day and smart brasserie by night, The Wet Fish Café & Brasserie is the perfect setting for cosy, romantic meals or lazy weekend brunches. Set in one of London's historic 'wet fish' shops in West Hampstead, the original Art Deco wall tiles and eclectic interior create a warm, neighbourly atmosphere. It is a hit with artsy West Hampstead locals who enjoy good jazz, cocktails and the Wet Fish Cafe’s own brand of “modern comfort food”. The seasonally changing menu is short and satisfying: it includes fish, meat and veggie dishes. Classics include the crispy squid with aioli, pollock with smoked lentils, chorizo oil and green beans, and rhubarb, ginger and almond crumble. The Early Bird menus are terrific value. Either pop in for pasta, fish or tapas between 4pm and 6pm with some truly enticing offers, or order by 7pm and return your table by 8pm for an irresistible deal on the prix fixe menu. And Early Bird offers are available all evening every Monday evening.

Tried this restaurant for the first time and was pleasantly surprised at how delicious the food was. We also loved the ambience of the place. Definitely worth visiting!

Great local restaurant with good fish dishes. My particular favourite is the hake but this time I tried a haddock dish. Also delicious but hake is still my favourite. Service was outstanding on this particular occasion. Very friendly waitress.

The Wet Fish Cafe is a good local restaurant with a buzz both at brunch/lunchtime and in the evening. We shared a seafood starter plate which had a good selection on it. Mains of vegetable curry, fish and the pasta special were all tasty. Service was friendly and efficient.

While in London (visiting from the USA), My wife and I were meeting a friends daughter who is at university in London. We found the Wet Fish Café while searching on-line for a place to go, and were delighted with the find. The staff were extraordinarily friendly, the food excellent and atmosphere very good.

Busy but a bit understaffed on the night we went. But the food is excellent and good value for money. It’s my local so I will come back for sure.

Delicious!
We were here visiting from the States and meeting a local friend and she recommended this restaurant.
Our table ordered Hake, Monk and Cod fish as our main, and it was cooked perfectly. Very fresh, delicate and right amount of seasoning. We were very happy with our dinner and this is on our list as must have whenever we come to London.
We are very particular about our fish, since we are from Pacific Northwest with abundance of fresh fish from cold waters of Alaska.
The service was excellent and the staff members were very friendly.
Only four stars because the lack of air movements during our dining to really enjoy our food.

We had a really good meal. The food was excellent, well presented and well served and we enjoyed it. I would recommend it. One minor comment- as a local cafe/ restaurant it should open earlier than 10am for breakfast.

Took US friendss for supper & they loved it. Our waitress explained everything in detail & suggested extras & alternatives for our eclectic ordering. One starter of the lentil side salad, I had the hummus & fresh tomato salsa -separate bowls with divine toasted walnut & olive bread. The herring & apple was also a huge hit. All v interesting yet simple. I went off posted & had the braised ox cheek for main. Sublime. No dessert for me but I did tick into one of the cheese platters - huge, and more delicious bread. Glasses of house wine good, plenty of carafes of water 'on tap'.
... I can honestly say every visit has always been spot on.
& restaurant decor fab with old fishmongers tiles still on walls.
Excellent x

The food was excellent, service friendly.
The only thing we found was that everything seemed to come out very quick and it felt like we were being quickly turned around even though it had never been stated that they required the table back.

Been to Wet Fish before and it's pretty consistent from the scallops to the chocolate cake pudding. Although portions aren't overly substantial. Pleasant atmosphere and a good date venue. Wasn't too impressed with the Tom Collins cocktail I tried, which was insipid but that may have been my poor choice.

Whilst we come here quite frequently and really enjoy the dinners, unfortunately on this occasion we were really let down by the service. We had a table booked for 20:30, and we arrived bang on time. We were told our table would be available in 5-10 mins which is absolutely fine so we waited outside. After 15 mins they apologized that the table was taking slightly longer to vacate than expected so offered us a table outside with some free olives until we could be seated at our table. Unfortunately however, 45 mins passed and we were still not given our table which we had booked in advance. We questioned why we couldn't have our table despite booking, and were informed that they could not do anything to resolve this - the party who had the table were overstaying their booking slot (18:30-20:30) and the waitress did not feel she could ask the table to vacate. We feel they could have simply asked the table to politely vacate as their booking slot was finished and they needed the table, but they did not want to do this. Sadly having lost faith in ever getting our table we had to go elsewhere.

We ate on a Monday, when two courses cost £16 and three courses £19 without the "early bird" pressure, whch makes this excellent value. The £6 cocktails are also good value. The venue was very popular, but despite this service was propt, efficient and couteous. Food across our three separate choices for each course was uniformly good and some of it outstanding, but the wine was slightly disappointing for the cost. Overall though very good value.

We first visited this restaurant after having a drink in one of the local bars. It was small but full with a bustling atmosphere and the food was excellent as was the service. We opted for the fish dishes and were not disappointed. There is also a good selection of wine to suit all tastes. All in all definitely a great find and would certainly recommend.

Great dining experience situated in a lovely location ( West Hampstead is a predominantly leafy residential part of town but has plenty of food and drink spots so good options for socialising ). The restaurant has a good layout with beautiful decor. Food was delicious with the fish cooked to perfection ( I had the Hake) Service was friendly but sometimes forgetful. Would definitely recommend and return.

This is the second time I've been here. I love the interior and the atmosphere here. However, personally, the menu is very poor. On the first occasion I was lucky to have my favourite on the special menu of the day. There is a lack of vegetarian options here. As the name implies, there is mainly fish on the menu. However, this should not prevent simple salads or other pasta, non meat options being on the menu.
I had the mushroom risotto with truffle oil which was too greasy and the you could taste the oil and butter drippings.
I had a runny stomach the next day as did my mother who had the haddock.

I would say it's a nice atmosphere to have drinks but is let down my the menu and slightly crowded table arrangements.

I was looking for a restaurant to meet a friend halfway between our houses and close to the overground. I found the Wet Fish Cafe in West Hampstead on Opentable. It sounded good and nice and it was! Great surprise: good food, good wines, great service and a very stylish but friendly setting.

Had a very good meal at this little restaurant in West Hampstead recently. I had visited a couple of times before for brunch and lunch (both very tasty) so was tempted to see if it was as good for dinner. We only had main dishes with a couple of starters to share but all was very good. My risotto was nicely cooked and full of flavour. Other mains were both fish and were apparently very good. Will definitely be back to try more.

Been here a few times, and it is a STRONG recommendation for brunch. The menu always features fish, with changing specials. Never had bad food here. Keep in mind that when you start adding courses and wine, the price starts creeping up (obv) but you know what I mean...

Our order was taken very quickly after we arrived. We ordered a couple of cocktails, starters and mains. We then ordered wine. The starters came out straight after the cocktails, which was only a few minutes after ordering. We would have preferred some time to finish the cocktails first. I had fillet steak for main, and asked for it medium rare. It arrived medium to well done. After we had eaten, it took ages to ask if we wanted desert, and we gave up on coffee due to the wait. When the bill came there was an extra main course that we hadn't ordered. Overall it was average.

We had a good (Sunday) evening. Many customers were there for the excellent value early bird menu and it was quite noisy (lots of hard surfaces). After they left it was quieter, the food was good, service was efficient and friendly, it would be even better if they took out one table and spread out a bit.
We'll go again
