Took my friend there for a birthday treat. Man in reception wasn’t very friendly. Looked like he didn’t want to be there. Told to take a seat in the reception area and brought us drinks menu. We ordered two teas. They came to our little table in the reception area with no teaspoons or sugar just a little pot of milk. We were then brought the main menu which we didn’t want as we wanted the afternoon tea menu. He brought this and we said we wanted the afternoon tea. He then told us we had to book that in advance! I wasn’t given the option to book any meal online. We de died to just order scones. They were brought to the table in reception so we asked if we could sit in the main restaurant area which they said we could. We had to bring our pot of tea and cups etc through to the restaurant. There were only three other people in there the whole time we were there. The food was ok. Scones very small for the price. It was cold, no music and lacked atmosphere. The staff weren’t over friendly and we couldn’t wait to leave. Won’t bother returning which is a shame as the setting is very nice.

The restaurant was quiet when we ate, which meant it lacked atmosphere, but the food and service were both very good. I would recommend it and will visit again.

We were only given the more expensive restaurant menu for lunch on arrival, not the lunch menu. We ordered the fish platter anf the vegetarian platter, neither of which came with the listed components such as dips, crudités, pate. What was provided was good but poor value for money. The floor was grubby, there was a door to the kitchen that permanently squeaked and the guy who was serving us was not particularly attentive.

We were celebrating my husband's 59th birthday and our 21st wedding anniversary.
I am so glad I chose the Wharfhouse, which I had been meaning to try for some time, as my husband was bowled over. He thought it was the best steak he had ever eaten and one of the very best meals ever. He is so hard to please when dining out that I was thrilled and we will definitely return.

nice room managed by only one front of house chap. He managed ....... but it wasn’t good. The menu offered some good options, but my starter was a joke. Goat’s cheese and beetroot ........ a small slate rectangle had three blobs of goat’s cheese and two or three minute cubes of beetroot ....... and some beetroot dust!
Mains and deserts were OK

So expensive!! £55 for two courses & 3 drinks. Needed to ask for the music to be put on to create some kind of atmosphere. We were the only diners. Our pork loin was served very pink. Which is permissible now but one of our diners had to leave it as she felt uncomfortable eating it or ruining the groups experience by sending it back to be cooked more. We were there an hour before we ate anything.

We stopped for a night on the way to the Lakes
As we arrived early a walk in to Gloucester was planned
You have to cross a very busy duel carriageway it became dangerous as we were stuck halfway and unsafe to proceed
we had to return to hotel
Hotel room ok and clean
The Food was very good and tasty
only slight complaint waiters didn’t supply plates for shared starter or again with shared cheeseboard we had to ask both times

Disappointing valentines meal
Good canapés
Cold scallops
Paté different than advertised online
Sorbet wasn’t a palate cleanser like expected....more like cheap strawberry ice cream....couldn’t taste the champagne
Tough fillet steak (should be like butter)
Tough venison fillet (un rested)
Terrible sauces
Under cooked chips
Cabbage not palatable
Trio of dessert to share only enough for 1 person
Pannacotta, no vanilla, strange consistency perhaps old?
Choc mousse-couldn’t taste the Grand Marnier
One waitress kept looking at my partner EVERY TIME she came in or out of the kitchen
Restaurant made you pay a desposit....it was dead when we arrived.....only 3 tables in when we left.
Lots of staff....not amazing service considering
Courses were rushed....other tables were asking for 15 mins before the next course came out.
We left still hungry....I’m not a big eater!

Not sure weather to try it agin here hoping it was an agency chef on duty or wether to just leave well alone.

Splendid food, amazing flavors and textures. Horrible service. Our waitress kept forgetting things, served things with long delays, cutlery and glassware were dirty. The girl did not know how to serve wine or food.
The restaurant has a diner set up, not cozy or quiet. Lady's room does not have a mirror or a trash bin. A lady is to check her outfit and fix her attire in the hallway, in front of anyone who walks past. A bartender made mistake on the same cocktail twice, one of them was serving the same drink that was just returned.

Tucked away in a quiet location, we had never heard of this restaurant before and only came across it when googling for somewhere different to try for a birthday meal. Only three other people in the restaurant when we went, so unfortunately slightly lacking in atmosphere. Not sure whether that's due to it being slightly "off the radar" or whether they just don't do a lot of trade during the week. Staff were friendly, although there were a few near misses with glasses nearly being knocked over when serving etc. A long wait for the food, but we didn't mind that as we weren't there for fast food. It was worth the wait as the food was excellent. The desserts were to die for. Prices very reasonable, bearing in mind the quality of the food. We've been to pubs and had mediocre food for much the same price. Will definitely go again and have recommended to friends and family.

This is the second time we have been to the Wharf House, on both occasions the food has been superb. It is definitely a venue for an intimate meal or a special occasion, as on both occasions we have been it has been quiet although the ambience has been fine.
We will be visiting the Wharf House again in the near future.

We were not welcomed when we arrived and had to sit for twenty minutes until someone spoke to us and brought menus. We gave an order for food and drinks but the waitress arrived to do the same ten minutes later as she had not been informed. The food was of high quality but was served in silence and empty plates ignored. Nobody ever asked if we had enjoyed our meal. In the end we gave up on a pudding, paid and went home. The waitress disappeared to show residents to their rooms at least twice. The girl seemed to have far too much to do.
Incidently, we had booked for the day before - Thursday - but the restaurant rang up to cancel so we re-arranged for Friday. When we got there it became evident a lot of guests were arriving to stay and they took precedence.
We were disappointed with our evening as it was a special occasion. We really did not feel welcome at all.

Swayed by the good reviews we decided to stay and eat at the Wharf House, Unfortunately they must have had an off day because the whole experience was terrible. The service was without doubt the worst we have ever experienced, we have some sympathy for the poor waitress who was on her own and left to fend for a full restaurant without any assistance. Having said this When asking where our drinks were after half an hour of waiting we were told we would just have to wait, without a hint of an apology. The main course finally arrived after 2 hours (food itself was quite nice, but not outstanding) by which point we had endured enough and left to go back to our room.
In the morning we tried to discuss with the manager only to be confronted by yet more appalling customer service, again with no hint of an apology in sight.
It goes without saying that we will not be returning!

On this occasion, we visited with friends, but all of us have dined at the Wharf House on numerous occasions previously, and will continue to do so in the future. The food is freshly cooked to order and quite delicious. Little touches, such as amuse bouches at the start, and petit fours with coffee afterwards add to the complete experience. It is not for diners on a tight budget but for a special occasion is a lovely place to go. There is also a terrace for those warm afternoons or summer evenings, and a wander round the canal basin at the back rounds off the day nicely.

The Wharf House is in a lovely setting, perfect to have a pre-lunch drink outside on the terrace overlooking the water - who would have thought we were so close to the city of Gloucester.

There were plenty of delicious options to choose from for our starters and main course dishes including vegetarian and gluten free choices for our party. We also had room for puddings which were tasted fabulous and looked amazing!

With a friendly welcome at reception and a smiley helpful waitress, wonderful food and views from our table - what's not to like? We will definitely be going back again and will probably stay overnight next time we visit the family who live locally.

I enjoyed the food - bit pricy but worth it. However being charged £12 for 2 coffees and 1 tea was beyond the pale!!! Unbelievable. And then an additional 'optional' tip of £8!!!
Two mains o1 panini 2 wines and a soda 2 deserts plus the coffee etc - £86 !!!!!
I am not mean but I felt it was excessively expensive!!!

In fact we were unable to go due to both feeling unwell, so our daughter and her partner went instead. They were really disappointed. The canapes were mostly tasteless - one had so obviously come out of the freezer and been microwaved, it had an ice crystal in the middle. The meat for main dish (Steak and Venison were nice but the vegetables were uninteresting.

The restaurant was surprisingly quiet, which slightly reduced the ambience, however we still felt it was a really pleasant place to be - aided by the very pleasant staff. The menu offered some fabulous items, it was hard to choose; the attention to detail on the plate was marked and appreciated. It was also very tasty. We believe this is one of the best places to eat in Gloucester and highly recommend it.

We were staying at the hotel with friends for three nights, dining on the Saturday.
Our table was booked for 7.30 and when we came down for dinner we were asked to take a seat in the reception area and they would be with us shortly. As there were already two couples who both hadn't ordered and we're getting very annoyed, we thought we might be a while. However 40 minutes later we had to ask for a drink and the menus. Not a great start! We were taken to our table at 9 o clock. The food itself was quite good, although some of it wasn't very hot and the portions could of been bigger.
We did feel really sorry for our waiter who was on his own and rushed off his feet.
This seem to continue all weekend , over breakfast etc and even on check-out it was him again.
We didn't pay the 10% service charge as this was an absolute joke, we did however tip our poor waiter/receptionist/manager/ etc etc!!
Would we return, definitely not!!

The Wharf House is ideally situated for a get together outside Gloucester. It is refreshingly near the River Severn though the nearby trees obscure the view from the terrace. The food was exquisite and the desserts are to die for! Fruit crumble; crème brulee; poached pears with stem ginger pieces in icecream!!

The ambience however, without of course the company of my good friends and banter, would have been flat. On a Friday night there was only one other couple dining. Our host was relaxed and made the experience casual rather than fine dining.

A mixed but enjoyable experience.

A beautiful lunch served by friendly staff. I booked this after googling restaurants by a river, it was my husbands 70th birthday and he loves dining by water. Must say we were both disappointed as although the restaurant is by the river you cannot see it as it was all overgrown. The whole outside area looked tatty. Bushes overgrown, tatty tables and chairs. Tables not cleared for a considerable time. All in all very disappointing.

This is not our first time here and in the past we have had a great experience. Sadly it was not the case this time. The tables were sticky, the art on the walls had bugs inside, the size of the steak was minuscule and over-cooked and the chips were terrible. The portion sizes have gone beyond 'haute cuisine' and instead leave you feeling really hungry; being given a dessert spoon to stir the espresso and having to ASK for a steak knife was just ridiculous. Very expensive for disappointing quality and size. The restaurant really needs to look again at its food quality, portion sizes, prices and service.

The food was excellent. It's not a very big menu but we were told that the venison and the fish were unavailable as they had sold it all at lunchtime - questionable. We were actually going to order the venison and so that was a disappointment. It shouldn't have been put on the menu. This is the second time my friend and I have been the only people dining in the restaurant although the website suggests you need to book in advance. The person who I believe was the chef came into the restaurant on several occasions but didn't speak to us. The waitress was young and didn't know what to say to us and appeared bored. All she said was 'No problems' or 'No worries'. We had to remind her that she hadn't asked what drinks we would like. I asked for a glass of Pino Grigio but that wasn't what I was given. We've given the place a second chance but we won't be giving it a third as we don't enjoy being the only diners in a restaurant. The restaurant is difficult to find but we feel that probably many people don't return because they feel as we do. It's well publicised but no one appears to go.
