The WheelWright's Arms, Bath
The Wheelwrights Arms Country Inn is nestled in the peaceful village of Monkton Combe and surrounded by picturesque hills and valleys on the edge of Bath.
Very decent Sunday roast - beef nice and pink and the veggies just right. Good pub to combine with a country walk. It was very quiet the day we were there but that is unusual - must be the summer holidays.
Lovely place and the food was fab. Great service. Highly recommend 👍
There was quite a delay in getting served, the food and plates were warm rather than hot and the bill was incorrect.
Ottimo pub a pochi minuti da Bath. L'ambiente è accogliente. Piatti molto ben presentati.
We had an enjoyable meal here with friends while staying in the area to visit Bath. The staff were very pleasant and the food enjoyable. However, when looking at details of the restaurant prior to booking I had thought that there would be a gluten free menu which there was not. I’m a great lover of desserts but was disappointed as the only gluten free option (other than ice cream which many restaurants seem to deem is a worthwhile gluten free option) was the petite four - and even that included a piece of chocolate brownie which I could not have. If you have a food intolerance of any kind I suggest you check in advance what will be available.
Tasty food although slightly overpriced for the portion sizes. (£6.50 for 60mls of creme brûlée. Tut tut)
Friendly staff, a pleasant atmosphere, some great paintings and an open fire made for a pleasant evening
Lovely food and nice fire going for an autumnal Sunday dinner. The cheese and biscuits are also worth having.
The rib eye steak was the best we have ever had. We will be returning!!
Nice atmosphere, kind smiling faces, I went back twice!
Found the staff friendly & helpfull for information.High level of food quality & did not wait long for food.Conversation was not interupted or blanked out by any noise.Alternative to a set plate of food was carried out for my wife who didn't want some foods. The bar staff had a good repore & communication between them when busy.Table areas were clean & tidy.I will stay there next time we are in the area.
Lovely pub with great service. Food a bit pricey for a pub and portions quite small - wouldn’t satisfy a mans appetite I suspect. Quality of food very good
Unfortunately I was sat in a window seat, the draft from the window was cold even though I pulled the curtains shut... brrrr
The service was fast, but the staff never came back during the meal to check if everything was ok, which it was but I would have liked another glass of wine! Too much going on chatting at the bar , shame as the food was lovely ...
Excellent food and service even near Christmas when we thought that it might be busy.
Excellent food worth the price. Friendly, tentative staff
Carved sunday roast beef that was ruby red and melted in your mouth! Rare these days to find a place that know how to serve beef. Excellent.
This is a lovely pub but they never checked their open table reservations so the chef had potttered off for the night when we arrived. Not very Michelinesque
Lovely food combinations
Fresh veg and generous portions
Always a favourite of mine
Fantastic food and great atmosphere. Highly recommended place to go
For a well relaxed and peaceful evening, this was the perfect spot. Food an service was excellent and a friendly warm feeling to the restaurant. Will look forward to our next visit.
Lovely food and very helpful staff who were very understanding despite one of our group being an hour late!
Convenient if you are staying at nearby Monkton Combe .
We had Sunday evening roast - not recommended . Although the beef and pork were tender enough , the roast veg and Yorkshires were very overdone and chewy - probably were fine at lunchtime but dead by 7 pm .
This was the first time my wife and I had used The Wheelwrights (and we're local) so took the opportunity to bring along friends to try it out. It was, overall, a pleasant experience for all and we will come again to try more of your excellent cuisine.
Food quite tasty, although my friend's starter was very small indeed. I needed more toast/bread with my terrine.
Another terrific evening. Diverse choice on the menu, delicious food.
Wine was lovely and we could take remainder home for the nominated driver. This won't be our last visit and I do give your address as a recommendation to friends.
Hope to fit in an overnight stay sometime too.
Excellent food, ambience and service. Food pricey but worth it.
The staff here are friendly , helpful and cheerful! We were having a happy get together which the helpful and attentive staff made a great success. The food was delicious and could be adapted easily to suit our appetites. I would definitely recommend this to others.
My group of 3 visited on a Saturday lunchtime and we all enjoyed mains which we'd never had before - Sweet potato & chickpea curry, cod cheeks peas & new potatoes and Cod & chorizo risotto. They had a good range of gluten free options which I was pleased with - I had the Cod & chorizo risotto. I was only disappointed with my pudding, I chose 2 different scoops of sorbet and one was half the size of the other. Otherwise I would have given 5 stars. I will definitely visit again.
Friendly place with good straitforward food in a beautiful village with lovely walks nearby. I ate there twice last night - delicious food both times.
Whilst the food was fine and the place is lovely..........it is quite pricey for what you get, we had sunday lunch and if you had 3 courses you wouldn't be far off £30!! Not sure I would rush back!
Lovely meal. Great selection of dishes from fast and simple to proper meals. I was shocked at how quickly a couple arrived, ordered, ate and left but they seemed quite happy to be in and out very quickly. I ordered the prix fixe lunch, which was a dainty pear and blue cheese salad and a beautifully tasty salmon fillet with new potatoes and a gorgeous cream sauce. My friend had a full on meal with soup and some scrumptious and substantial pork chops. Very reliable food, and a nice quiet country pub ambiance.
reviews had been enthusiastic so I was very disappointed by the food tho staff are very pleasant-the coffee was awful !!
Not a great Sunday Lunch. I had the roast beef which was a mistake. My yorkshire was inedible and the plate needed more gravy, meat was ok but a small portion. Considering the price of this roast it was very poor value for the money. The other two meals were however much better.
No one came to ask us how the meal was until we had finished to the problem was not rectified at the time. A 10% tip was added to the bill and I resented paying this because of the poor service. As we were there for a celebration meal I did not want to make a fus at the time.
A great meal. Specials were excellent and menu was interesting and appealed to everyone in the party. Macaroni cheese was especially good.
Lovely open fires and friendly staff.
Fabulous service and delicious food. Very family friendly and facilitates for babies good.
Great welcome from the friendly staff! Great food and accommodation!
Overall very good, my only advice is to ask to be seated away from the door in the winter, to avoid an icy blast every time someone comes in!
Whilst the standard of cooking and food was high there was little variety on the menu unless you like game. Also, although it was a cold night, the staff seemed to be oblivious to the freezing diners!
Had a lovely time eating here on a Saturday evening. We were sat in a cosy little side room with just our group (four of us) which was great fun. The wood burning fire made the whole place lovely and toasty for a winter evening. The food was great. Not too many options, but everything tasted and looked fab. (Steak was incredible!). Enjoyed our desserts too. Fist time here but will definitely consider a visit in the future.
A lovely team lunch. We were made to feel very welcome. Good delicious and served promptly. A lovely pub.
stay here and ate in the pub, very nice place and a cosy atmosphere, would visit again
