Good atmosphere and was pleased that they allowed us time after our food to finish drinks, which they don't at some other establishments that shall remain nameless.

Well where do I start. Fantastic is the word. We visited York in August but unfortunately we couldn't get a table, so as soon as I knew we be coming back this weekend I booked immediately!!!. Lovely atmosphere, great surroundings and comfortable seating. Staff amazing, very helpful and polite with a smile which a lot of the time you don't find these days. FOOD- I had the ham hock for starters which was spot on and my partner has popcorn mussels( who would ever think of deep frying mussels in batter???) they were outstanding with the bloody mary dip. Mains I had the rib eye steak with chunky chips, the flavour was mouth watering, partner had the burger which again was good. Rose wine which was recommended by our waitress was very nice. So to cap, thank you for a truly lovely evening and we will be back on our next visit...

We use the restaurant approximately every 6 -8 weeks the food is always good and the service especially from Anna is always first class

Excellent food and service in a lovely atmosphere.

As a local resident I have found the food here usually excellent. This weekend I found the roast beef Sunday lunch bland and pretty poor! Overcooked veg, tasteless cabbage, strongly flavoured and unpleasant thick gravy already poured over everything on my plate. Beef was well cooked but any flavour was drowned out by the gravy. Not what I expect of this stalwart Sunday diner!

Super evening, the steak was beautifully cooked and the wine paired well.

We sat outside due to covid and it was nice although quite chilly after 1.5hrs. We went expecting to order a la carte but got persuaded to have a special chateau. We'd seen it before and was really looking forward to it. When it arrived it looked a bit below par with very few extras e.g. 2no onion rings. The meat was ok but my blue cheese sauce was still cold from the fridge. For £80 we expected more (not necessarily quantity but quality).

Incredible food, waitress was very helpful with helping us decide what to have. Very good experience overall. Would definitely go again.

We visited for lunch on a Saturday. This place feels like a little silo away from the craziness of the city centre. Lovely beer and pizza. Great service. Covid measures are very good. Will be back again soon!

The food was wonderful and the staff were very attentive. But the downstairs was a little cold and uncomfortable.

we were in York for my belated 30th celebration. Me and my girlfriend had read the reviews on this place and thought we'd give it a go. it's very unassuming from the outside, we sat in the smaller room to the right and I must say it is one of the best dining experiences I've had for a very long time. I'm a GM of a restaurant myself, this was top notch! If anyone after lockdown of course is thinking of somewhere to have a great steak meal i would 100% recommend this place! Thank you so much for the experience!
