The White Hart at Fyfield
With a passion for provenance, the kitchen sources food from the very best local suppliers and grow much of their own fruit and vegetables. Mark even fishes for his own crayfish and trout from the local reservoir! Cooking is modern British and menus change daily depending on what is fresh and seasonal - with the signature slow roasted pork belly, with foot long crackling, being a favourite.
Great food & location
Fantastic food, good service and we all had a lovely evening. The jaffa cake desert is one of the nicest puddings I have ever eaten!
The venue was ideal, halfway between where my friend and I live. The atmosphere was perfect to catch up with her. We were able to talk easily without having to strain to hear each other and the staff were very attentive but not gushing. They did not rush us which some places do when they get busier.
The meal itself was beautifully presented and very filling. Good value for money. Would certainly go there again and would happily recommend this venue.
We both agreed that it was the best lunch we had eaten at The White Hart. Certainly I always recommend the restaurant as the best in the district.
Excellent food very friendly and attentive staff and lovely surroundingd
Wonderful meal. Service, food (especially the desserts), drink and the building itself were all fantastic. A lovely evening for my parents' pearl wedding anniversary.
I would have preferred a table in the restaurant but was not given this option when booking. I did mark it was a special occasion and no mention was made of this fact. Overall tough the staff were attentive food was excellent
My "go to " restaurant when I want a real treat.Food always superb and a wonderful medieval building that manages to work in a modern way.
We came for a birthday meal. A card awaited us at arrival. Starter: The Charcuterie platter to share was a triumph, all ingredients first class.
Mains: generally all mains were very generously seasoned (not for everyone). The John Dory was nice, perhaps a little dry/overcooked and so were the fishcakes. The children’s sausages could have benefitted from vegetables.
Dessert: the poached apricots were very tasty (a scoop of ice cream rather than clotted cream would have been nicer, but the beignets were super) and only the salted caramel ice cream tasted a little too strongly of burnt caramel. A small excellent piece of nougat with a candle for the birthday person concluded a nice evening.
Finally the alcohol free cocktails were very refreshing.
Having said all that no disasters here and we had a lovely evening with great service and ambience and we will definitely visit again.
Wonderful food and they coped very well with my gluten and dairy free requirements.
Delightful gastro pub in a beautiful village. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Food was delicious and light.
We love it here and whilst dining here on the 5th of July 2019 we booked to go again for my husbands birthday.
The food is out of this world.
An absolute hidden gem a place you’ll want to go back to again and again.
We sat in the garden and ate from the lunch menu. Our food was lovely I had a goats cheese starter followed by a crispy duck salad. It was very tasty and the presentation was fantastic. The icing on the cake was the lavender panna cotta that could only be described as delicious, again fabulous presentation and a lovely variety of flavours surrounding it. We will definitely be back.
We've been to the White Hart many times over the years and have always loved it. But this time we were disappointed. The food was fussy, with small portions and lots of (we think) unnecessary flourishes like jus, tiny dollops of mousse etc. The food that was there was very tasty, but we came for the food and got a work of art. Lots of staff milling around, friendly but felt over-staffed.
Wanted to show my sister one of the best restaurants near my new home in Southmoor
We have visited The White Hart several times now and find it well worth the “just over an hour”drive from home.
We have always booked for lunch and been very impressed by the choice available from the menu. The dishes are familiar but with an interesting twist. The flavours are fantastic and the quality of meat used is superb. The chef certainly deserves a pat on the back, BUT.......what really impresses us is the comradeship amongst the owner and the staff. They seem to have a remarkable relationship despite the pressures of service. Nothing is to much trouble and they are very aware......no empty glass or plate escapes their vigilance, no matter whose table it is. Several staff will engage with you during your meal, giving you every opportunity to make requests or give feedback.
This is no smart restaurant but what it does provide is wonderful food, excellent service in a charming pub staffed by people who want to ensure you have a really great experience. thank you.
The wine was lovely. (Bottle of Chablis) I hooked the table through open table for my dad’s 60th. it was lovely to see personal touches put out on the table for him, and a brownie with a candle for his celebration was thrown in too. Staff were excellent - very attentive. And the food was amazing. Definitely five star. And definitely recommend.
Superbly delicious food and excellent “service” in beautiful surroundings. We chose to celebrate a “landmark” birthday at the White Hart, and it was everything we had hoped for. I have to start with the food, as it really is exceptional. What makes it so special is the attention to detail … the little extras on the plate, the perfect balancing of flavours, and of course … the taste. The home-cured salmon gravadlax was absolutely delicious, while the ever-popular Kelmscott pork was melt-in-the-mouth. We finished with chocolate marquise … chocoholic heaven. But what made the day extra special was the warm welcome and attentive service throughout. A meal to remember turned into a day to remember. We will be back soon.
An amazing Wednesday Dinner Club menu tonight. Served by a great team in a lovely location.
Very good food and service. This restaurant never disappoints.
Excellent food - both on set and a la carte menus. Attentive service in a good setting, good ambience. Ideal for an unhurried lunch.
We have an annual trip to the White Hart to meet up with friends from the Midlands. The food is always excellent and the environment very pleasant for lunch. It was slightly annoying that at the next table there was someone whose mobile phone had a very loud ring tone. The service was good in the main. We struggled to get the attention of waiting staff on a couple of occasions, but other than that the staff were friendly and helpful.
The food is excellent, and the staff are very professional.
The service is normally very good, but on this occasion I had to keep going up to the bar to ask for menus and drinks we were waiting for.
On the whole I would recommend the White Hart, and I will be visiting again.
Our host at Rafters B&B recommended you for a quality meal out on a weekend away. She was right 😀😀😀
Excellent food, very friendly attentive service, would definitely recommend.
The food and the restaurant is great... do not judge the place from what it looks from the outside!!! Inside is a hidden germ!
Excellent food, friendly professional staff wonderful place can't fault it in any way will definitely be going back and highly recommend it
Great little venue, staff are attentive and polite. Food is very good and reasonably priced. You cant go wrong really, would recommend.
i brought my partner for Fathers Day. We had a truly lovely experience. The service was brilliant, food amazing and the staff were really lovely. Fully recommend and will definitely go there again.
Delicious food and fantastic friendly service. We enjoyed a wonderful meal to celebrate Fathers Day.
Excellent evening all round. We were a couple, one celebrating her birthday. Greeting and seating was efficient and friendly as was the service throughout. The meal was beautifully arranged and served. We chose a shared platter - choice of five different fish portions - to start.
Main dishes were a tender calves liver and an onglet beef steak: both were delicious with elegant and tasty accompaninents. Finally a good dessert chosen from a range from sticky toffee pudding to sorbets.
Finally a specially decorated dish to celebrate Happy Birthday! A very good evening in every way.
We had a lovely meal on Friday evening. The whole place had a lovely atmosphere. The staff were very attentive and helpful. The food was delicious too. We would definitely be going back.
A superb setting with excellent food and wine -- and quiet enough so that the four of us could converse, despite a fairly full restaurant. Both the pork and fish were done to perfection and the desserts were all one could ask. Highly recommended.
I thought the food was great quality, however an item we wanted was missing from the menu. Disappointing. Also the starter and main course came out very quickly, too quickly infact. So we were in and out of the venue in 45-1 hour. If I am paying £90-100 for a meal I want it to last atleast 2 hours personally. Also we were left waiting to pay the bill for atleast 15 minutes which ruined the end of our meal.
Loved the Roast beef dinner at The White Hart. The sticky toffee pudding was exceptional !
Excellent, as always. Warm welcome from Kay and everyone in the party enjoyed their meal. We’ll be back again soon!
Perfection, as always. Delicious food, great staff, stunning location, not too pricey. Always a treat.
Great food and service in a setting with great ambience. Try the special pork dish for which they are known
I recently had lunch here with my wife and daughter. I’d heard that this restaurant was highly rated so made the drive out here for Sunday lunch.
The service was ok. One of the staff was a little short.
The main meal was average. Very nicely presented but slightly on the dry side and lacking the rich flavors I’d expect from a restaurant at this level.
The dessert was good and enjoyed by all.
The restaurant itself is very nice and comfortable inside.
All in all I would say that the experience was average. Not worth coming again but also not that bad that I would warn friends and family against it.
Friendly staff. Short well thought out menu. Beautifully presented dishes that tasted as good as they looked.
