The White Hart at Fyfield
With a passion for provenance, the kitchen sources food from the very best local suppliers and grow much of their own fruit and vegetables. Mark even fishes for his own crayfish and trout from the local reservoir! Cooking is modern British and menus change daily depending on what is fresh and seasonal - with the signature slow roasted pork belly, with foot long crackling, being a favourite.
It is my go to restaurant for good food. Always interesting, tasty, quality ingredients, ever changing menu, seasonal, friendly and professional.
We mentioned it was our first anniversary and was greeted with a card, and received a lovely decorated plate and truffles at the end of our meal. As usual the food was absolutely outstanding, our firm choice is the beef every time and you really cannot get any better anywhere else! I would recommend anyone to try The White Hart...………….. our thanks for making such a wonderful experience.
Prompt service. Good food. Reasonable prices.
Would have liked a few more choices on the set menu
The White Hart is by far my favourite restaurant, and I eat there as often as possible. The food is always flavoursome and well presented, and I like that they grow a lot of their ingredients, plus source locally wherever possible. They use quality product and never disappoint. The building is lovely and the staff are both friendly and professional. Nice atmosphere, suits all occasions. Love it!
We’re regular customers and whilst the food ranges from very good to excellent the service can be a bit variable. This was one of those occasions when the service was way too slow. We arrived fifteen minutes early and our table wasn’t ready. We expected to wait but not over thirty minutes just to sit down. We were then kept waiting twenty minutes before they even took our order. My soup was tasty but I am rather tiring of restaurants that serve soup with the texture of apple purée. I like my soup liquid. Thick is good but it shouldn’t look like baby food. The roast beef was excellent. We were offered horseradish sauce but, surprisingly, no gravy. One of the vegetables (possibly kale and apple) was a bit weird: way too sweet for my taste. The cauliflower cheese was good. My friend said his cod dish was brilliant. The cheese board looked good. My treacle tart was amazing - possibly the best I’ve ever had - although I think I’d have preferred cream to custard as an accompaniment. It took an age to get the bill and then to pay. Our lunch ended up taking over three hours which meant it was dark by the time we left. Kay wasn’t on duty which was a shame as the service is noticeably top notch when she is. The experience won’t put us off visiting again though. I’ll allow the odd bad day before looking for another venue for birthday lunches.
Thank you for the feedback. Whatever the nature, it is always useful for us to improve and develop. I am really pleased you enjoyed your food but I am so sorry to hear that the service was not up to our usual high standard. I would really appreciate you getting in touch with me personally via the White Hart email. Many thanks and best wishes, Kay.
My husband and I brought friends for Sunday lunch. One of our friends is gluten and dairy intolerant. I felt the staff were very attentive and her needs were catered for extremely well. Thank you
Thank you for the 5 stars! All of our food is cooked fresh, so it is no trouble to cater for gluten or dairy free. I am so pleased you enjoyed your experience with us and we look forward to welcoming you again soon. Best wishes, Kay and Team.
Absolutely amazing birthday meal. Went straight for the mains and the signature slow cooked pork with crackling. I've never tasted better pork . I had the cheese selection for dessert which was beautifully presented . The service was great without being over the top and the atmosphere was very comfortable.
Thank you for the lovely feedback Mary. I am so pleased you enjoyed your birthday meal with us. The pork is from a local farm and slow cooked for 10 hours - it has become our signature dish! We look forward to welcoming you again soon. Best wishes, Kay and Team.
Really couldn't fault any aspect of the meal. The staff were really helpful and moved us to a warmer location as my wife was a little under dressed for the weather. No fuss at all. The food was exceptional quality, seasonal, and reasonably priced for the quality on offer. The beer was great too. Will definitely come back!
Thank you so much for this wonderful feedback. It is so good to hear that you appreciate the quality of our lovely produce and food and feel that it is good value for money. We love what we do and look forward to welcoming you again soon. Best wishes, Kay and Team.
Really great setting, lovely atmosphere. Food was excellent in quality and value and the service was very friendly. Really appreciated the interesting non alcoholic drinks.
Thank you so much for the 5 stars and fabulous feedback! I am delighted you enjoyed your meal with us and we look forward to welcoming you back again soon. Best wishes, Kay and Team.
Having been told about The White Hart a couple of times, we decided to go for Sunday lunch and were not disappointed. Food was great, staff were lovely and we really enjoyed it.
Thank you for the 5 stars and great feedback. I am so pleased your enjoyed your Sunday lunch with us - our slow roasted beef is one of my favourites! We look forward to welcoming you again soon. Best wishes, Kay and Team.
Excellent as usual. We (5) of us had the pork belly which was delicious. Very good value Sunday lunch 2 or 3 course menu.
Thank you for the 5 stars and feedback. I am so pleased your Sunday lunch with us and we look forward to welcoming you again soon. Best wishes, Kay and Team.
The food was good. The service was very slow and we had some money taken off the wine as a gesture of good will.
Thank you for the feedback Pippa. We are just a small family run business and take great pride in the food and service we give. I am so sorry on this occasion our high standards of service were not met. I would very much like for you to get in touch with me directly so I can rectify the situation. Very best wishes, Kay.
We both had the deer main course and had an unsettled stomach overnight and the next day.
Thank you for the review. I am so sorry that you have been unwell. Please be assured that we have incredibly high standards of food hygiene in our kitchen and have deliveries fresh in every day. The venison is from a local farm with an excellent reputation and we have used and trusted them for 13 years. I would very much like for you to get in touch directly - you can email me on the White Hart email. Many thanks and best wishes, Kay.
Really outstanding food. The staff were friendly and attentive. We will certainly be coming back!
Thank you Cathy! This is great to hear - I am so pleased you enjoyed your experience with us. We look forward to welcoming you back soon. Best wishes, Kay and Team.
Tonight’s Wednesday Dinner Club meal at the White Hart Fyfield was delicious as usual and great value for money. Can’t beat the location, the professionalism of the staff and the skills of the chefs. It must be good because we keep coming back.
I am so pleased you enjoyed our lovely food and hospitality! We look forward to welcoming you again soon. Very best wishes, Kay and Team.
A wonderful place to while away a couple of hours with a friend over delicious food
Thank you for the 5 star rating and wonderful feedback! We look forward to welcoming you back to the White Hart again soon. Best wishes, Kay and Team.
The food, service and ambiance are not on the same level as anything else within driving distance. The menu is impressive, constantly changing and taking on seasonal aspects whilst maintaining their core throughout. Drinks are always great as well. The servers are knowledgeable and always do a great job. Will be back many, many times.
Excellent venue, delicious & nicely presented traditional English pub dishes & good selection drinks combined with very helpful staff 👍
Sunday lunch was exceptional, really tender beef and lovely vegetables. We were a little disappointed that there was a charge for table water.
What a little gem. Found this superb gastro pub on google. Can not fault at all, staff all very pleasant. Food was excellent. We will be returning soon!
Kindness , wonderful food, amazing with kids. We had a very lovely Saturday lunch and surely will be back with our friends.
Fantastic meal. The quail starter was well presented and just the right portion size. The fallow dear main was delicious. The brioche desert and the calvados moose desert were scrumptious.
The White Hart team are professional and very attentive and the location is just delightful.
The White Hart is a go to place for quality food, sourced locally or from the restaurant garden. Mark and his team in the kitchen turn out an excellent meal. I have had worse Michelin * experiences. The Front of House team always make you welcome and provide great service. The Wednesday Dinner club provides excellent value and look out for their regular themed/seasonal evenings. This historic venue provides a good country pub ambience.
We pick this restaurant as a mid-point to meet good friends, each of us driving around 60 miles to get here. This time, in our usual party of four, we all found delicious choices on the set lunch menu - fantastic food, great value. As always, a very relaxed place for excellent food and time to chat - the service "just happens", never intrusive.
Excellent as always ! We were a party of 5 . Two of our group had the roast beef and 1 had the pork which were all delicious . My daughter and her husband had the veg lasagne which there said was absolutely amazing !
Absolutely fabulous meal on Saturday evening. Food was amazing, with lots of great little touches & the service was impeccable. We’re every penny!
Always delicious food and and a friendly, cosy atmosphere.
The White Hart is a beautiful venue for a special meal. The disappointment for me, as a vegetarian, was that there was only one vegetarian option on the menu. Unfortunately for me that option contained mushrooms, which I am allergic to. I know I could have phoned ahead to discuss this but to be honest I didn’t expect a restaurant of this calibre to still be considering vegetarians as not worth the trouble of catering for. I ended up ordering the sharing plate of dips and pita bread, not really what I hoped for from the evening.
The food never fails to be impressive (along with the service). We love the sharing platter as a starter. It’s a firm favourite. Scotch egg - need a say more? My husband had the rabbit for his main course which he declared the best he had ever had. I was more than tempted by the pork belly. It was sumptuous. I can’t pass up a pud whereas my husband went for the cheese. He had a locally sourced goats cheese which he is still raving about. I however decided to venture away from my usual desire for something chocolate and instead opted for mango sorbet with coconut mousse and lime granola. Well, it was out of this World. I definitely want to have that again. Thank you for another wonderful evening.
We eat out regularly and in different venues but The White Hart in Fyfield remains our favourite and most regular place to dine.
In all the time we have eaten here we have never been disappointed, have alway been made welcome, have received excellent service and most importantly, delicious food at great value as well as in delightful surroundings.
The Chandlers and their team know how to delight their customers.
The service was good, and attentive everyone was smiling and enjoying their job. I felt comfortable as the tables are not too close to other peoples tables.
When the food came out it was a picture, beautifully presented. More importantly it was flavoursome and hot. I enjoyed eating it and savoured every mouthful. Starting with a duck pate, with crispy bread it was smooth and tasty. The pork main was set on the place like a work of art. Biting into the pork crackling was pleasing as it snapped and crunched from being cooked perfectly. The pork was rolled and presented well on the vegetables, which were underneath it. Each layer of food was well cooked and tasted good. The gravy was flavoursome and mixed well with the vegetables. One thing I prefer my potatoes looking like potatoes, crispy and round. Square potatoes don’t necessarily cut it for me but they will do.
Finally, the hot toffee pudding was nice. It was very sweet with lots of sauce. I like sweet but it might be too sweet for some people.
I have booked to have another meal soon.
The food was delicious and differed from the usual menu you see at restaurants. Staff were attentive.
A first class environment in a very historical building, the place oozes history. Nothing historical about the service and food very prompt , friendly, staff who care about your experience. The food and wine was of the top order. We will be back soon .
It’s feeling autumnal so went for the smoked mushroom soup and the cep and pumpkin lasagne. Both were lovely, earthy flavours but not heavy. Quite a treat! I almost managed the chocolate marquise too, but eyes too big for the tummy! Delicious.
Excellent evening, as usual. Attentive staff, excellent food, beautiful setting
We always enjoy going to the White Hart for a special occasion and went recently for Sunday lunch to celebrate my husband's birthday. The food is excellent and the service is just right. We enjoy everything about the White Hart. Thank you .
We regularly visit The White Hart because it is consistently fabulous! The food is innovative and delicious, the service is second to none and we are always made to feel special. The whole experience never disappoints and we feel so fortunate to live only 10 minutes away.
Great ambience, great food and service. Prices for desserts are steep at £8 - £9.
Our lunch was excellent, service attentive without being intrusive. The only , slight downside, was the somewhat limited menu. We recognise, however, that in order to provide more choice, the White Hart may have to amend their stated objective of providing locally sourced top quality products. The ambience of the White Hart is unique and should be treasured.
