The White Hart at Fyfield
With a passion for provenance, the kitchen sources food from the very best local suppliers and grow much of their own fruit and vegetables. Mark even fishes for his own crayfish and trout from the local reservoir! Cooking is modern British and menus change daily depending on what is fresh and seasonal - with the signature slow roasted pork belly, with foot long crackling, being a favourite.
Always delicious food and and a friendly, cosy atmosphere.
The White Hart is a beautiful venue for a special meal. The disappointment for me, as a vegetarian, was that there was only one vegetarian option on the menu. Unfortunately for me that option contained mushrooms, which I am allergic to. I know I could have phoned ahead to discuss this but to be honest I didn’t expect a restaurant of this calibre to still be considering vegetarians as not worth the trouble of catering for. I ended up ordering the sharing plate of dips and pita bread, not really what I hoped for from the evening.
The food never fails to be impressive (along with the service). We love the sharing platter as a starter. It’s a firm favourite. Scotch egg - need a say more? My husband had the rabbit for his main course which he declared the best he had ever had. I was more than tempted by the pork belly. It was sumptuous. I can’t pass up a pud whereas my husband went for the cheese. He had a locally sourced goats cheese which he is still raving about. I however decided to venture away from my usual desire for something chocolate and instead opted for mango sorbet with coconut mousse and lime granola. Well, it was out of this World. I definitely want to have that again. Thank you for another wonderful evening.
We eat out regularly and in different venues but The White Hart in Fyfield remains our favourite and most regular place to dine.
In all the time we have eaten here we have never been disappointed, have alway been made welcome, have received excellent service and most importantly, delicious food at great value as well as in delightful surroundings.
The Chandlers and their team know how to delight their customers.
The service was good, and attentive everyone was smiling and enjoying their job. I felt comfortable as the tables are not too close to other peoples tables.
When the food came out it was a picture, beautifully presented. More importantly it was flavoursome and hot. I enjoyed eating it and savoured every mouthful. Starting with a duck pate, with crispy bread it was smooth and tasty. The pork main was set on the place like a work of art. Biting into the pork crackling was pleasing as it snapped and crunched from being cooked perfectly. The pork was rolled and presented well on the vegetables, which were underneath it. Each layer of food was well cooked and tasted good. The gravy was flavoursome and mixed well with the vegetables. One thing I prefer my potatoes looking like potatoes, crispy and round. Square potatoes don’t necessarily cut it for me but they will do.
Finally, the hot toffee pudding was nice. It was very sweet with lots of sauce. I like sweet but it might be too sweet for some people.
I have booked to have another meal soon.
The food was delicious and differed from the usual menu you see at restaurants. Staff were attentive.
A first class environment in a very historical building, the place oozes history. Nothing historical about the service and food very prompt , friendly, staff who care about your experience. The food and wine was of the top order. We will be back soon .
It’s feeling autumnal so went for the smoked mushroom soup and the cep and pumpkin lasagne. Both were lovely, earthy flavours but not heavy. Quite a treat! I almost managed the chocolate marquise too, but eyes too big for the tummy! Delicious.
Excellent evening, as usual. Attentive staff, excellent food, beautiful setting
We always enjoy going to the White Hart for a special occasion and went recently for Sunday lunch to celebrate my husband's birthday. The food is excellent and the service is just right. We enjoy everything about the White Hart. Thank you .
We regularly visit The White Hart because it is consistently fabulous! The food is innovative and delicious, the service is second to none and we are always made to feel special. The whole experience never disappoints and we feel so fortunate to live only 10 minutes away.
Great ambience, great food and service. Prices for desserts are steep at £8 - £9.
Our lunch was excellent, service attentive without being intrusive. The only , slight downside, was the somewhat limited menu. We recognise, however, that in order to provide more choice, the White Hart may have to amend their stated objective of providing locally sourced top quality products. The ambience of the White Hart is unique and should be treasured.
We had a lovely time and my friend was delighted to find a birthday card waiting for him on our table.
The meal was a good value for money and I was very pleased to be able to have a small glass of 'decent' wine (unlike many eating places that save the better wines for people who want a bottle of wine)
Food is excellent. Back again for Sunday Lunch .Very creative starters and puddings. The mains well executed. Good value for such fine food.
We had a fabulous evening at the White Hart. The food was delicious, seasonal, well presented and excellent value for money. I highly recommend this restaurant and if we are ever in the area again we will return!
Excellent food and service.
We went here for a family member’s birthday and had a very enjoyable evening. We will definitely be going back.
This is a gastro pub that I had not visited before, and it was a great discovery!
Our meal was excellent and we liked everything about our time with you.
The history of the pub I looked up when I got home, and it was, as I expected, fascinating.
We will return!
Excellent meal slightly spoiled by slow service in being able to order. We eventually gave up on trying to order desert and left
Tip -don't gets stuck in the table for two in the corner. This was the second time in 10 days we have had this problem on that table.
we went to the White Hart for our Wedding Anniversary and were delighted with the food and the service. The meal was delicious and we also received an anniversary card. Whilst it did cost more than an average pub, we went there for the food which we knew to be good and expected to pay a bit more for tastiness!
Staff were friendly and polite
Always great here
Very pleasant evening with lovely surroundings. Only a small comment that some bread could be brought to the table on seating. Many thanks.
Excellent service, attentive staff and delicious food. It was my birthday and there was a card on the table for me and when we had finished our meal, a plate with Happy Birthday in chocolate written on it, with a delicious chocolate truffle. Thank you
As always everything was perfect. Great place to have a 4 hour relaxing Saturday lunch and drinks with great friends. Always a pleasure.
Excellent food and great service. We were well taken care of, thank you for making my mothers 82nd birthday meal so pleasant.
An excellent meal, wonderful attentive service and a lovely place to eat.
Could not fault.
Our favourite eatery,
Very good service on a relaxed atmosphere, not rushed , relaxed evening with the best food and polite, friendly and efficient staff.
Our anniversary and we really enjoyed the evening.
Beautifully presented and tasting food. Good service.
It was quite hard to find as the sign had been taken down (?for repainting) but it was well worth finding. The staff were friendly and efficient, the food was delicious, and the interior of the inn was traditional and cosy. Quiet to begin with (we were seated in the bar area) but it got quite noisy later.
The entire occasion from walking through the door was delightful. Staff had just the right level of attentiveness - the welcome was warm and we had a splendid meal. I would not hesitate to recommend The White Hart to anyone who loves good food
Super lunchtime meal - excellent value.Extra touch was a happy birthday card and chocolates. Will be back soon.
Four of us met for lunch, although we were surprised that from the road the pub looked closed and unloved. When going round the back, however, it became much brighter and inside was fabulous. We all had the set lunch menu which was very tasty and good value. My only criticism would be that the choice for our coeliac guest was rather limited and he was told "these are the things you can't have ..." - it would have been much nicer to have a gluten free menu showing all the things he could have!
All in all, a great lunch out and we'll certainly go back
Many visits to the WH. The menu is not like so many pubs and a la Carte is an evolving list. Specials are also v interesting and sticky toffee is world class. Honestly not found a better high end pub near Oxford
Really enjoyable meal at the white hart. Lots of good gluten free options though could do with some extra desert options
Beautiful indoor and outdoor space, and the food was delicious. The service was very friendly and fast, and I really appreciated the compostable straws and the fact that locally sourced meat/produce is used. I'm looking forward to going back!
My pork was, as usual, great. My wife's fish was disappointing - overcooked and bony (it would have been good if the menu had made clear it was on the bone as my wife would have ordered something else). The starter and desserts were good, particularly the home-made sorbet.
Local and seasonally ‘provenance’ focused very good cooking
Knowledgeable and friendly ‘warm’ service
Food good although not cheap ab and marred by Slow chaotic service and Pestered by flies.
As always the Sunday lunch is to a consistently high standard, can’t fault the food.I would normally rate the White Hart 5 stars but on this occasion the service was not good. Having raved about the White Hart to friends it was embarrassing when we visited with them as the service was way below normal standards.
