The White Hart at Fyfield
With a passion for provenance, the kitchen sources food from the very best local suppliers and grow much of their own fruit and vegetables. Mark even fishes for his own crayfish and trout from the local reservoir! Cooking is modern British and menus change daily depending on what is fresh and seasonal - with the signature slow roasted pork belly, with foot long crackling, being a favourite.
Wonderful venue. Fantastic food.
Thanks we've passed the feedback onto our kitchen team who work so hard! Thank you see you again Owain and the team
We have eaten here several times over the past two years and always thoroughly enjoy the experience. The food and service is excellent and such a fabulous room!
Dear Kate thank you so much for the 5 stars, it really does mean so much to us. Thanks again and we look forward to seeing you soon. Owain and the team
Considering the location, the pricing was a bit too ambitious. In central London such pricing would have been appropriate if the service would have been up to scratch.
Service was poor. Dietary requirements known to and confirmed by reservation were not communicated to staff. Our daughter was served suet crust (containing bread) with her deer meal while she needs gluten free meals. We were asked to have our coffee during or after our desert, we asked for during, but we received them afterwards all the same.
The portions were too small for their pricing, apart from the panna cotta which was a large trough of a liquid mass (not panna cotta at all).
This restaurant is well known for its excellent kitchen but it is let down by its staff and lack of communication. A bill of £160 for three persons is way too high for what we have received.
Fantastic food, service and ambiance. The staff are all friendly and chatty and happy to help. Loved it all.
So glad you loved it all, truly makes us very happy, thanks so much Harry, and we look forwad to seeing you again soon. Owain and the team
Always excellent. Excellent food and service. It’s my gold standard.
Hi Linda, Thank you so much for your 5 stars it really does make our day when we read posts like this. Thanks again Owain and the team
We've been meeting friends here every February for a number of years. Never disappointed - a very well run restaurant.
Hi Robert, Thank you so much for the review we really value your business, and reviews like this really do make our day. Thanks again Owain and the team
As usual the food was enjoyable, although the chicken, lemon and tarragon soup was very salty...even extra salt crystals had been added to the butter which we thought was totally unnecessary, indeed not really acceptable in these days of being told to reduce our salt intake...... and the set lunch menu extremely good value. We each had a glass of wine which we thought were a bit pricey. The service however on this occasion was very slow indeed. We had to wait a really long time in between our starter and main courses. We don't like to be rushed, but this was too long a wait. The worst bit was waiting to pay...we got fed up with waiting for someone to come to our tble with our bill so we went to the bar and had to queue for about 20 minutes to pay. Having said that, we will return as it is convenient and the set lunch menu usually really good.
Very tasty, as usual. My wife had the pork belly, which she'd had before, I tried the venison suet pudding, great comfort food! Puddings were chocolate delice and sticky toffee, both excellent, with a lot of care taken over all the elements.
Hi Julian, Thanks for the feedback, we're glad you and your wife enjoyed so much, and can't thank you enough for taking the time to write this. Thanks Owain and the team.
Lovely place with super nice staff and fantastic food. Good sized tables and well spaced out. I just loved coming in out of the cold to see and feel the heat from the wood burner.
Hi Matthew we love our wood burner too! Thanks so much for the comments, and we look forward to seeing you again soon. Thanks Owain and the team
I went for a Sunday roast with family, the food was excellent and they have a great selection of wine. Took a little while to get our order taken but after that little blip they were very attentive.
The food and service here are spectacular. Everyone should know about it because it’s great... but then, it would make it impossible to get a table. Ignore me, everyone, nothing to see here.
A fantastic meal and evening for my husband’s Birthday, wonderful quality food and service, I look forward to our next visit, thanks
Fabulous food, wonderful cocktails, attentive yet discreet service and great ambiance. Absolutely the best place to eat!
Amazing food as always, brilliant service, welcoming and cozy.
Fantastic food set in a beautiful setting. Really enjoyed our dinner
One of the most memorable places I’ve been.
Every dish was faultless
Service is outstanding
Please take your time to visit this wonderful place
You won’t be disappointed
At it's usual great standard, it's my local 'go to' quality restaurant, never disappoints
Good food good service looking forward to a repeat.
Still the best restaurant in the Abingdon area. The pork belly is great.
Great food - so flavoursome served in the most wonderful atmosphere in a wonderful
Celebrating a birthday we chose to visit the White hart, the service, food and ambience were exceedingly good as always. We were made to feel very welcome by all.
1st time at the White Hart but will definitely be returning. Food was amazing and good service.
The catering and service are excellent but you need to ensure that ‘value for money’ remains affordable to attract people from further afield. A three course lunch is good value at £23.00.
Excellent food, only issue was charcuterie plate could have had more bread. Pork delicious, as was pheasant. Had table in bar so noisy (Friday night) and service initially slow but fine later. Expensive
Welcoming and special. Food excellent and displayed with panache. A first rate place to meet folk as the gentle space makes for the best of foodie experiences.
I would have rated the food excellent - it always has been in the past. Unfortunately the two portions of pheasant breast were slightly overcooked and dry, although I am aware that it is difficult to keep pheasant meat moist.
Never disappoints. We have been eating 2-3 times / year at the White Hart for several years now and are happy to drive the 70+ miles to get there. Standards are consistently high. Refurb of the toilets would be appreciated though - especially in Winter!
Food and atmosphere FANTASTIC WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND
We always enjoy our visits to the White Hart and are always impressed with both the food and the excellent service we receive while there.
I particularly enjoyed the pheasant I had recently and the parsnip and apple soup is second to none! My husband and I are looking forward to our next visit.
Excellent restaurant with outstanding food and service. The food quality and presentation where excellent and I would thoroughly recommend.
Booked through the app and turned up to a nice welcome. Mulled wine, parsnip soup and Belly Pork all cooked to perfection. Texture and taste sublime, will be back!!!
Absolutely outstanding. It’s our second visit and the atmosphere, food and service was as exquisite as when we first visited 7 months ago! Can’t wait to go back!
What a lovely place and the food and service were excellent!
Will most definitely be back!
My favourite Oxfordshire gastropub, it never disappoints
This is becoming a regular Friday lunch venue. The beers are always well kept and delicious, the food consistently interesting and superb. Service excellent too. What's not to like?
Great delicacy in preparation and presentation of the food. - excellent
The pub was really busy and quite noisy so conversation was difficult.
The soup was delicious as was the ginger pudding dessert. The main course was average and Luke warm.
Service was good as always.
The overall experience was disappointing.
My gold standard. Always excellent service and good.
We had not been to the White Hart for twenty years. It was still amazing. The staff cared a lot and the food was beautiful (Wednesday dinner club). Highly recommended!
It is my go to restaurant for good food. Always interesting, tasty, quality ingredients, ever changing menu, seasonal, friendly and professional.
