The White Hart of Wytham
We were celebrating a birthday. Tha staff decorated the table for us. They were friendly and helpful. A lovely place, making it a special celebration. The food was excellent. Thank you to all.
Beautiful location and food but we were sat in the conservatory while a rain storm was passing, making it very noisy. Staff were friendly and did say that we could move if needed.
Picture perfect English country pub outside Oxford. Fragrant log fire and relaxed ambiance. Excellent menu with choices galore and a separate vegan and vegetarian one. The cooking was top notch and I could eat the whole thing again v easily; smoked haddock scotch egg with a mustard sauce and spinach to start and stone bass to follow. My daughters enjoyed steak, duck and truffle tagliatelle and everyone was wowed by the triple cooked chips! Good wine list well priced (Chablis and a Rioja). Friendly staff. Highly recommended. V easy cab ride (£6) out of central Oxford. So lovely to be in the countryside.
A homely, charming gastropub that has food that ranks above and beyond its billing. A varied menu and excellently executed cuisine. Very highly recommended. I had smoked Haddock scotch egg and the venison - both were delicious.
Lovely country pub, intimate spaces and a decent Sunday roast!
Cold in the restaurant (We had a table by the fire too)
Ordered additional drink - never came
Food - Lovely
My perception - Staff were distracted as it was a "Jazz Night"
Well, I am coming back on Sunday. Obliging Albanian waitress.
Delicate food such as venison carpaccio. Well presented.
Easy parking is a bonus point.
Great location, very good and professional staff, and terrific food. In our party of 4, we had one person with a nut allergy, and another ‘Vegan’, and both well catered for.
Only one slight downside, in that we were sat back from the bar, which was fine, and in the same room as the real fire, again lovely, but with the door permanently open, as to not shut off their ‘conservatory’ type eating area, it was quite cold. So out next visit will be when it warms up a little.
If the owners read this review, then if they could fit a simple ‘swing’ door this would help, I’m sure, and not make food delivery too difficult either. But as I said, overall a great -lace to visit.
Delicious duck breast and rather too large rice puddings also delicious.
I still do it appreciate the reasoning behind music in the background, as those of us with diminished hearing find it a strain to converse.
Staff were helpful with my elderly father. Food was very good. Nice ambience. It was understandably busy on a Sunday afternoon.
Bit draughty on a cold day even with the fires.
Wonderful lunch with real good and frendly service
Delighted. Birthday lunch for my son, booked table for 6.
Couldn't be happier, nice table reserved as requested next to fire. Food was relatively simply but exactly what we were looking for and service could not have been better, really felt they made an effort to look after us. Thank you very much.
Fantastic fish and chips! My mom had a different fish dish, also very good. Desserts were amazing. Lovely atmosphere and a super team of staff.
Gorgeous venue, lovely food, incredibly helpful, friendly and patient staff. Dog friendly too. Really enjoyed it. Thank you.
Amazing roast with lovely veg side dishes. The staff are lovely and do not rush you.
Excellent Sunday lunch for 12 people for wife's birthday. Fabulous Oxfordshire roast beef. Service was also impeccable, even when taking dessert order from an indecisive 5 year old.
I would thoroughly recommend.
Lovely food and lovely feel to the place. Really looked after us and the staff were brilliant. Slight shame there was a loud laugh coming from the bar area at any (usually unnecessary) time. But hey, it’s Christmas. Will definitely return again.
Great Christmas dinner. Wonderful setting. Friendly staff. Great value.
The staff, and especially the manager made us feel welcome. We felt the meal size for a main course was very small, so they only charged us for a starter size. Quite tasty. We were in the conservatory, which is probably rather shabby, but it was warm, and bright.
Really great food. Staff attentive and plenty of selections of beer
Great rural pub/restaurant with excellent fresh home cooking. Extremely friendly and helpful staff.
Best Christmas dinner that we have had in a pub.
Roaring log fire for our two dogs to lie in front of, whilst we ate a superb lunch with friends. Waitress very attentive, food very good and overall an excellent first time visit.
Excellent Sunday lunch. Good atmosphere and very friendly and responsive service including moving our table around when it looked like we might have to wait. Thank you!
Stunning place. Beautiful pub in a beautiful village. Food was lovely. My beef was superb bug my wife's lamb was a little fatty. Vegetables etc were delicious as we're desserts.
Definitely will visit again.
So unusual to have a really good vegetarian menu - thank you!
We enjoyed our evening. Overall experience was pleasant.
First of all - the food was absolutely outstanding, I cannot articulate how good it was! I would happily return to the White Hart every week.
However, I had prebooked a tabled for 5 and a high chair a couple of weeks ahead of schedule because I knew that the White Hart would be busy, given it's so good and so popular. When we arrived, no one greeted us - I got a mildly confused look from a member of staff behind the bar when I explained that I'd booked etc. They waved us at an empty table in the corner, which just about seated 5 and a high chair. There were, however, one too few chairs, so I had to interrupt another diner to ask if we could have one of their empty chairs. I then had to squeeze a highchair in as well. There wasn't quite enough room, and I did feel like we were encroaching on the tables either side of us, but we had no choice in that.
After a few moments we were asked if we would like to order. Unfortunately, however, communication was quite poor and we were then sat waiting for quite a long time, unsure of what was going on! The roast dinners (5) arrived together and were perfect. The whitebait, however, turned up 10 minutes later. It was still delicious and my daughter was delighted, but it would've been nice if the whole table's order came out together, or if the server would have said 'the whitebait will be a few minutes, but it is on its way!'. We'd just assumed that it had gotten lost in translation!
Equally, we ordered wine to go with dinner, which took three different attempts to actually get to the table. Again, it was delicious, but having to ask repeatedly after we'd already paid for it at the bar seemed a little odd. For a second time, we were left wondering if it had also gotten lost on en route!
After dinner our plates were cleared we were offered pudding menus. The puddings were divine!
In short - the White Hart does truly excellent food. The service on a busy Sunday, however, wasn't quite up to scratch.
A delicious Sunday roast with lots of vegetables in front of a roaring fire. What not to like, but not cheap.
Lovely old building, very nice staff, delicious food.
Very good food. Lovely atmospheric pub in village setting. Friendly staff. The only thing that stopped us giving a 5 star review was that ( despite an open fire which was just getting going as we arrived ) it was cold and the loos especially so.
Wonderful welcome, relaxed ambiance, ambiance, imaginative menu! I shared a celebration meal here with two well travelled friends, who loved it, enjoying the character, personal welcome, and culinary flair! We shall return without hesitation !
Lovely location in a small village but what comes out of the kitchen is outstanding. I went for my birthday on the basis that their reputation for vegetarian food was good and it really was. So much effort put into the vegetarian menu with vegan options too. The non-veg menu was also great.
I was really happy to pay for the mains but the dessert at £8 was a bit high and too sweet.
Gorgeous food and attentive staff.
Quick review 'cos rather busy today but we had a very enjoyable meal with friends in front of a real log fire in this wonderful old pub. What more do you need on a dark November's evening? We'll be back.
Lovely Sunday meal with very good vegan/vegetarian options. Would be nice to see a non-roast menu available as well as some of our non vegetarians didn’t want roast, and it was really about the only choice of mains for Sunday.
When we arrived we were told that two chefs had just walked out and that we wouldn’t be served.
Dear Val 7 I am writing to apologise for the incident that took place in our kitchen last Sunday. I had employed a relief Sous chef for a few days who had been recommended. He had done a good job in the 3 days prior but the pressure of a busy Sunday lunch service got the better of him. I have personally messaged everyone of our customers I thought affected, to apologise and also offer them a full complimentary lunch at another time. This offer applies to you also. Yours sincerely , Baz
vegetarian menu tries to hard couldn’t order anything. Chefs walked out during the meal (this actually is not the first time). Over all it’s expensive for low quality food, too few staff (felt so sorry for the poor waiting staff struggling to cope), and clearly bad management who can’t retain their chefs. A great shame but will avoid going in future
Dear The Clampets I am writing to apologise for the incident that took place in our kitchen last Sunday. I had employed a relief Sous chef for a few days who had been recommended. Unfortunately our table was in a room at the back of the pub, so it lacked any atmosphere, the only other table was a table of 2 adults and 2 children. There were 7 of us between the ages of 30 and 70 so it would have been nicer to be in the main restaurant. The food was served on cold stone plates so it cooled the food down really quickly. Four of us ordered the pies from the specials menu, but wish we hadn't. We won't be returning.
Lovely country PUB 15min outside Oxford. Food was good but I think service was a bit slow due to a busy kitchen. Probably is not the standard waiting time for food.
All good thank you and a very pleasant time was had by all!
