Lovely service and most of the food was delicious. A few Mix ups on drinks and food, but quickly rectified with minimum of fuss. Considering the complications from COVID workarounds, we had a lovely time. The outdoor seating arrangements were lovely and we stayed dry and warm even through a hail shower.
First time back to the WH since last year. We thought how well you'd accommodated the present situation. First the huge protective tent plus the individual pods which were delightful - beautifully presented and pretty - we could see much money and effort had been ploughed in to this new way of dining.
There were three of us - my mother who was 90, my sister and myself. I did inform the pub at point of booking that mum is a regular user of the WH and that it was a special birthday and was informed that she would be a made a little bit of a fuss of... but this didn't happen. It's no big deal, but she would have been as pleased as punch with a Happy Birthday from the staff. There was ambient piano music; just right - not intrusive, very pleasant. We each had a starter plus a pud - divine food as always. Staff friendly and professional, with covid protocol taken v. seriously. We bought coats, blankets and a hot water bottle - thankfully the rain held off until we were about to leave so all good. It was lovely to be back there again; I know mum in particular enjoyed it. Thank you!
Great spot. Becoming our favorite pub for outdoor dining in Oxford area.
the menu has some fabulous courses . Really top notch
We had a very enjoyable lunch meal yesterday at the White Hart Wytham. The outside facilities are very good with separate pods and a high covering that covered the whole area. One felt safe from Covid and were able to relax and enjoy being waited on after what seems a long time.
Great food, lovely atmosphere. Service was excellent. Will definitely be back.
Geared up well for COVID compliant outside dining. Great food! Wrap up well if it’s cold outside although the pods have heaters.
Great to be back at The White Hart. As always the food was lovely. Both of us had a roast. my beef was brilliant, so tasty and it melted in the mouth. My husbands pork loin was soft and tender, and the crackling was so good that he would have loved to have had a bag of it. Plenty of fresh veg, tasty gravy and the lightest yorkshire puddings that we've ever eaten. Wonderful service even with all the Covid restrictions. If you haven't eaten here yet hurry up and book a table, it's so good
Absolutely lovely Sunday meal. Accommodated some dietary intolerances really well. Beautiful outdoor garden. Very high quality food. Chef deserves a raise!
Food good. At present eating outside but well organised. Beautiful pub. Staff efficient and served quickly despite being very busy.
A last minute decision to visit our son in Oxford for a sunny Sunday lunch meant that only two options came back in the search results. The Whyte Hart came first and with such good ratings I didn’t hesitate to book 4 bar stools. In fact we had a pod dressed with greenery and waiting staff full of smiles. Fast service, lovely Sunday roast. They were short on some of the veg so extra Yorkshire puddings were offered and they’d run out of the dessert I’d have liked - but that’s a sign of a popular menu. We’d definitely go back and would recommend without hesitation.
The White Hart has made a wonderful set up in the garden. Very atmospheric with lights and decorations, lovely pods to sit in, each with their own heat lamp. The food was great, as always.
Booked anniversary date with my wife three weeks in advance of booking expecting to get a cosy pod as per the the pubs website but disappointing to arrive on the evening to find table not ready and then advised hadn’t had a pod reserved anyway. Placed out on a limb in an unheated poorly lit area away from the main dining experience so didn’t start on the best footing. Waiter apologetic as we’d felt mislead and not in the know that should have explicitly asked for a pod..said he would move us to a pod as soon as one became available which he did in the end but we’d had had the meal by then. Would have been a far better experience if been in the heated pods for the whole meal. Really nice ambience and feel. Food was good but wine was poor. £26 Chenin blanc was watery and felt equivalent to a cheap £5 convenience store wine..overall would have given higher score if it wasn’t for the disappointing seating experience. Was first night out for months also with my wife having worked two stressful jobs in NHS throughout the pandemic. Of course that not the pubs fault but amplified the disappointing experience after lots of good recommendations from others that had had the hallowed pod dining experience..on that basis won’t be returning. Pierre Victories all the way next time when they open up..
Really nice food. Looking forward to eating there when it is a bit warmer.
Really tasty food, the outdoor pod was beautiful ans the staff were friendly
We had a lovely meal at the White Hart. We were sitting outside, as per the current COVID regs and they did a great job of creating a cosy and ambient atmosphere. There was luce music in the form of a piano which was such a treat and added to the experience. The good was all tasty and well presented. Would definitely recommend.
The food was amazing. And it was nice to see it full of staff. And we didn’t have to wait too long for food like we have in the past
Excellently prepared for outdoor dining terrific food lovely service highly recoomended
Terrific heated pods for outdoor dining. A very cosy atmosphere
Had a delightful evening in their charming outside booths . The food was delicious and the service very friendly. We can’t wait to go again.
I made a booking on OpenTable for 2:15 PM on the day of the booking, Thursday the 22nd of May. We got there and no one was at reception. After being ignored for five minutes by serving stall walking by someone came over, looked at a list, and said we were not on it. I explained we had made a late reservation, enabled by OpenTable. They went away to look into it and then came back and said "sorry", we cannot take you.
The place was half empty, I gestured around and said surely they could serve us something.
Eventually the manager arrived and said their kitchen was small, they had a big party coming (probably breaking COVID regulations) and they could not help us.
First off they cannot configure OpenTable.
Secondly, they could have invited us to sit down, have a drink and surely there must have been something the kitchen could whip up.
Not planning on going back.
Dear Paul I am distresed to read this and want to apologise for the failing on our part. It should not have happened and is at odds with our usually very high standard of service and hospitality. I would like to make amends and try to see if you will come again so that we can provide you with a very good experience. Please would you email me via the link on our website? Apologies and kind regards. Baz
Thursday lunch for three people. Excellent all round. Going to the White Hart was always a treat. Imaginative cooking made it special. I had feared that the chef would get rusty after the long closure but, fear not, all three courses were excellent. Ambience was the same as always -- excellent. There is music, which clearly bothers some reviewers. I thought it was excellent: a great play list at a reasonable volume. Loud enough to hear but soft enough not to impede conversation. I did not the piano in the centre of the courtyard. Perhaps on live music nights it is different, but the recorded music the lunchtime I was there was great. So, too, was the service. As for the space, there is a clear plastic roof over the garden which seems to bother some reviewers. I thought it was great. It was high and at no time did I feel like I was indoors. There are two kinds of tables -- some are in plastic pods that seat four, others are uncovered tables for 2, 4 or 6 -- so there is something for everyone. We were led to a pod when we arrived. I hadn't specifically asked for one. I know that the next time I go I will ask for one of the normal/unbubbled tables. And will I go again? Yes, as soon as I can make another booking.
A definite food delight. Not cheap but the quality is absolutely outstanding!
Lovely atmosphere and very friendly welcoming staff.
We will be going back soon!
The White Hart have created a top class outdoor dining experience. The pods are fun and quirky and the heated light keeps the chill at bay. Menu is creative and food was delicious. We will be back.
What a hidden gem! Went on recommendation from parents who tried the Sunday roast, we requested a pod and had the most amazing time! Staff were awesome, the chef deserves a pay rise and overall a wonderful experience and the food was better than some high end restaurants we’ve dined in. I counted around 12 different people that asked where it was and booked a table off the back of me posting some pictures, so I hope they all receive the same treatment. Thanks to all at the White Hart! We will be back!
Menu is excellent.
Food is very well prepared.
Portions are reasonable.
Quality of the service staff not so good.
The table had no salt or pepper. I asked for black pepper. The waitress asked if I wanted white pepper. I repeated black. After ten minutes I was told they had no white pepper!? By which time I’d simply taken some from a neighbouring table.
A bottle of reasonably expensive (£42) Chablis was brought to the table warm, and with the cork already removed. This was despite me asking if I could take the bottle with us because we were only two people and unlikely to finish it. A few other hiccups too.
The courtyard has been very well covidded and is very welcoming.
The White Hart have made an exceptional effort to meet COVID requirements , the outdoor area was lovely , the food was usual suburb standard and we will be booking to return very soon
The outdoor space has a lovely relaxed atmosphere with comfortable seating. The service was good and the food was really delicious.
it was great ,food delicious, fresh good quality!and service also on 100%!!
We had a light lunch in one of the pods which were installed last year. We each had two starters which turned out to be ample (encouraged by the fact that the starters looked more interesting than the main courses). The service was cheerful and professional and the courtyard setting makes for a harmonious ambience. We know The White Hart well and have never been disappointed.
Really enjoyed a birthday lunch this week. Felt very covid safe. Menu was interesting and the food was delicious. Only concern is that we were a little hot in the pod as it was sunny and can only see this becoming a greater issue if the weather continues to improve. Might feel like being in a greenhouse. Having said that, will definitely be back.
I gave it four stars because it was good - not sure why I also have to write a minimum of 50 characters - puts me off doing reviews :-)
Fantastic place for lunch under the sun in a good day.
The White Hart is BACK! I really think that this is one of the best places to eat in Oxfordshire. The food is out of this world. The garden has been done nicely and despite not being in a dome, we were warm enough as it is sheltered.
It's not a cheap night out but it was worth every penny.
Very busy and a wedding nearby but service friendly and efficient. Lovely atmosphere. The food was excellent.
Can't recommend The White Hart of Wytham highly enough. We had a delicious lunch there shortly after restrictions lifted - the food was excellent, the staff were friendly and efficient, and it felt incredibly Covid-safe. The pods are such a great idea and make it a go-to dining option in Oxford at the moment. We'll definitely be returning very soon. Thank you for having us again!
Lovely food as always. We felt the area was too crowded with tables in the middle as well as the pods. Great that they have a huge canopy over the whole area. Please beware you will not be seated in a pod unless you ask for one at time of booking. Service mixed, given menus carefully selected then told food not available. But when I discovered the chips were covered in flour they very quickly replaced with fries. Not sure if we would go back with current set up.
The food was delicious and piping hot. Lots of effort had been made to keep tables well spaced and it all looked really pretty and inviting. The service was excellent and with a smile. I rebooked then and there!
I just ate the best risotto I have ever had. Vegetarian sometimes leaves me feeling cheated, but not this. Excellent. First meal out for ages and we were not disappointed. They go the extra mile in every way.
Noise level particularly notable - dining pods not only create safety and privacy, but they really block out ambient and background noise so great for anyone with hearing loss. Delicious food, friendly and prompt service. A meal to remember.
Great to be back - recommended highly. Good location - nice people.
