Good food in a decent pub. As ever, music too intrusive for my taste but maybe that's just me as I'd rather there wasn't any when eating.
The White Hart at Wytham is such a lovely and safe place in this time of darkness. A welcoming open fire, friendly & attentive staff, a good selection of wines, and, of course, excellent food: from the mackerel scotch egg (which works so well) to the confit duck leg ("comfy duck leg"), and desserts for our times, including chocolate delice and sticky toffee pudding. Thanks Baz & team!
A real lift to the spirits at this time. The outdoor dining pods are well thought out and with the fire pit going we were happy and warm. The food was delicious - elevated pub classics executed beautifully.
It was amazing, the food was excellent. Cheese and haddock and monkfish as starters were delicious followed by venison equally yummy and a chocolate delice to finish, outstanding.
We ate outside in one of the pods for 4 and was just lovely. Great food as always and cosy and snug in our pod despite the rain outside - will certainly return.
Excellent staff, super helpful and amazing food. Very cute pods outside where you can sit cosy under a heater.
Overall we had a nice experience, but there were several things that could have improved it. We had booked an outdoor pod for 6 people, and I had followed this up with an email to confirm that we would be covered and protected from wind and rain etc. However, on arrival the pod only sat 4 and a small table and 2 seats were placed next to it. The 2 table and chairs were not covered or protected from the elements. Thankfully it didn’t rain!
The food was nice, apart from rock hard broccoli and no serving spoons for the bowl of vegetables. The sticky toffee pudding was amazing!!!
I love coming here, they have made the restaurant very covid safe! The food is lovely, the outside seating is ideal. Amazing!
We ate in one of the covid pods and had a really lovely time. The staff were very helpful and made us feel safe. The food was wonderful too!
A good outdoor venue for this time of year. It allowed us to meet friends within the Tier 2 rules. The service was great and the food reasonable. They are doing well in trying times, thank you.
Good food, fair value, service a bit slow, but hard to cope when its all outside. Outside seating imaginative and attractive - but not warm even on a sunny lunchtime
Great that they have plenty of outside seating - though the promised (GIANT) marquee was just the metal frame as some problem with the tenting. If our pod's heater was working it wasn't on. Good menu - sausages came well done as requested, Service friendly but not totally slick, and not very speedy. But would do it all again!"
Good food and the staff made sure I could eat with substitutions
The outdoor terrace with its individual heated pods is a great idea and I wish more restaurants were following this example. Having said that, the heaters were fairly weak, giving out more light than heat and this could be improved. Also the plastic cover for the whole terrace should have been taken down. While we were there, the wind created a lot of noise and finally the cover blew off. Food was mostly good, particularly starters and puds. The turkey main course was a bit disappointing - I always think it is better served in chunks rather than slices
Excellent food. I loved the venison, best I have ever had I think.
It was a wonderful all round experience .. would recommend
Could do with some low ground heaters. Otherwise excellent x
Awesome venison burgers and great service
Only two of us so we could eat indoors by a roaring fire. Had an excellent meal here in the summer and dropped in again as in the area. In Michelin terms "well worth the detour"
Food was delicious. Ambience was warm and cosy. Very family friendly. The staff couldnt do enough. So good, going back this weekend
Pods were nice but tiny, no heating in them that was effective. Service very slow, took ages for us to order our drinks and then they had ran out of milk for hot chocolates! Food was delicious however.
We picked this pub as the website said it had a special vegan / vegetarian menu. Sadly it wasn't on so our choice was limited. The food we had was lovely and the service was good. (Avoid the houmous if you don't like it swimming in oil.)
We liked the menu. The food was excellent. The only thing was that the mashed potatoes had run out by 1 o clock. Under the COVID circumstances everything was very well managed. We have been before and will keep coming.
Wonderful service, lovely food and great atmosphere. Added to which, they’ve been doing an amazing job in impossible circumstances.
Booked for dinner on the night before Lockdown 2.0. Pub was fully booked but because effort has been invested in making it Covid-safe the restaurant did not feel crowded at all. Food was the usual very high standard and service was very friendly. See you on the other side!
Not good value - £17 for half a cauliflower and add-ons!
We were expecting outdoor heaters and froze.
The waiter was pleasant.
Very enjoyable lunch in a cosy setting.
Friendly and efficient service.
Can highly recommend the monkfish scampi as a starter.
Lovely inviting team at this pub. Made us feel welcome and very happy to have young kids in the restaurant too!
Decided on lunch here before walk in Wytham Woods and both of us enjoyed a delicious, sustaining meal, in Covid-secure environment, to set us up for said walk. Pie of the day was delicious, as was my partners Fish & Chips - which naturally I had to sample! Too full on this occasion for dessert!! Loved the outside ‘Pods’ - though we were seated inside - and hopefully they will be allowed to remain post-pandemic.
I have lived in Oxford for some time and used to drink in the White Hart under the previous owners. I have to say under the new management they have really upped their game. The food was excellent. I had the Halibut and it was perfectly cooked and absolutely delicious. Its an old charming building and I think with a little effort they could really improve the ambience and make it really magical i.e. softer lighting and candles - an easily fixable minor gripe. Overall it was very very good and I would, and have already, recommended. Well done.
Staff were very helpful when I asked for an outside table. We were in a courtyard under a canopy. Other diners were in pods which had heat lamps and looked fun. Food was excellent, especially the spiced cauliflower veg option.
Thank for putting up your clever 'pods' in the garden. We will be back!
A perfect rendezvous to meet grandchildren and family in COVID times. Ambiance excellent, perfect service sensitive to our time. Excellent food, responsive to individual requests and patient attention to detail.
Nice welcome, seats by a warm log fire, superb food and drink and great service.
We shall be back soon (COVID permitting)!
Great food and surroundings. Pods look fabulous - cosy and compliant! Indoor dining experience was snug by the log fire. Fish and chips were outstanding. Will definitely return.
Lovely food and great service sat outside in a pod. Even got free entertainment thanks to the thunderstorm!
First time at the White Hart and won’t be the last. My friends and I enjoyed our meal. The atmosphere and service was good despite all of the current C-19 restrictions
Interesting food, quirky layout in old buildings, staff all on the ball - feels further from central Oxford than it really is.
Great service, lovely surroundings and delicious food too.
Fantastic atmosphere! The food was delicious!
Staff very friendly and helpful!
The restaurant using social distancing and I felt very safe!
Well done and keep up the great work! Definitely will come back and I’m recommending this place to everyone:)
