We work with suppliers like the family owned brewer St Austell’s, the coffee supplier Origin, local produce and meat suppliers also Sharpham for their local cheeses and wines.

Food was super. The arancini particularly tasty.
We were headed to the Barn Cinema after and were pleased to be able to have time to fit in a delicious pannacotta to end with.
Cold and drafty atmosphere, burnt chips and undercooked broccoli, boring menu choice, slow service, dreadful experience, will not return. Such a shame - this pub should be a destination experience that helps to save and serve the gorgeous Dartington Estate.
Our Sunday roast turkey was really excellent and easily equalled our other local favourites. We will certainly be returning, and recommending to our friends.
A very disappointing experience. This was a meal that was overpriced and under- delivered. Seasonal choices are generally great but the range was extremely limited and the only vegetarian dish was boulangerie potatoes- might have been good as a side dish but £15.95?! I had the steak which was good but served on a piece of rock hard toasted bread and not interesting enough to warrant the £23.50 price tag. My partner had fish which was under-seasoned. Our veggie friend ordered two starters- the arancini was good but the soup was under-seasoned and dull. I was really looking forward to eating here but would not go back or recommend.
Buildings and grounds beautiful of course ... welcoming pub and inviting menu, but food was very disappointing and didn’t taste great.
Food was excellent, as always. Service is always friendly but can be a bit haphazard. The location is fantastic. Overall, a great place to go.

I really enjoyed the environment of the White Hart, the décor was plain and understated, reflecting the style of the building itself.
Visited the White Hart for a Sunday Roast as had previously visited at Christmas time and always had an excellent meal. Sadly the Sunday Roast - we had the slow cooked beef- was dreadful. The vegetables were ok however the one piece of thinly sliced beef was awful - my companion likened it to a piece of rag! The beef was stringy and generally dreadful. We had to ask for more gravy and that was like a jug of brown hot water. Our waitress did ask if the meal was ok and we did point out the meat was a disgrace to which she didn’t seem to know what to say other than she would pass the comments on. I think there are far better venues for Sunday lunch around and would definitely avoid the White Hart. Appalling quality and not worth the money. All in all very disappointing
Really wanted it to be better than it has in the past, but STILL no atmosphere - Please put some background music on..... it's a really odd atmosphere otherwise! We felt we were making too much noise with our 6 year old... The service was patchy. One FOH team member was great - friendly, smiley. Another one, was not so good - shoddily dressed, no charisma or customer service whatsoever...
The food was ok but overpriced. The tiny serving of roast vegetables that came with the roast dinner was disappointing - one parsnip and four carrots to share between 3 people!

Had dinner on our first night. Starter ok, husband 's steak was awful, strange texture and lacked any flavour. I had risotto which was fine. Breakfast was very disappointing. I don't mind self service, but at least make sure that everything is kept hot! Everything was luke warm, and this morning noticed that the lamp over the beans was not working! Very disappointing, breakfast should be the meal that sets you up for the day, but not here. Would not recommend to anyone.

Great venue, lovely food, prompt professional service. Definitely recommend this venue especially before going to see a film, makes it a brilliant evening out.
This is an ideal restaurant if you’re staying at Dartington Hall, however, I would not recommend going here for dinner.
Staff were taking drinks and food to wrong table, then trying next table which was also wrong. Tables all round us were complaining about food, length of wait or lack of basic tap water they had waited 15 minutes or more. My husbands steak was worse he’s ever had and despite raising issue with staff they were not interested. I requested a starter in a bigger size and was that wasn’t possible.
Drinks were extremely slow & we wasn’t offered water.
The bill was £62 for 2 of us which was really bad value for the quality / quantity of good along with poor service.
Unfortunately as it’s located in Dartington Hall it appears to be fully booked every night, despite below average food. It seems such a shame as all the cafes in the estate are lovely.
I recommend a short drive to Cott Inn for much superior food/service.
We were looking forward to a nice meal with friends. However the food took over an hour to arrive. No one checked on us in the mean time. I had to go get the waitress. The portions were very small for the money. There was no one there to clear our plates and ask if we wanted coffees or desserts. All in all a very poor experience. We will not be returning.
Had long wait for food which we had to rush as had a film starting. Soup was very average & had to ask for bread. Main was ok but small portions. My desert was sticky toffee pudding & was unexpectedly cold. I'd had enough by then & returned it. When I went to pay (I had to find a waitress as we were out of time) I made the point about delays & was given sympathy but nothing else. Overall disappointed. Won't be returning.

We were disappointed to find the main courses didn t include a potato and vegetable portion. By adding these on as an extra put the price into the expensive bracket ! All the steak came with was a few onion rings !!!! That isn’t acceptable

A nice Sunday roast - we sat outside and there was a wedding going on in the grounds so the music was nice ambiance.
Because of the wedding I think the staff were a bit distracted. There isn’t really anywhere to say you’ve arrived for your booking?
The food was lovely and our only comment is that you need to sharpen your knives or provide steak ones for the roast beef. It was tender to eat but the butter knife cutlery made it very hard to cut!

Booked table to coincide with film screening, which worked perfectly.
Venue is the original kitchen of the Dartington Hall, so it's compact, high ceilinged and characterful. Menu choice wasn't huge, but we enjoyed our goat burgers.
Service was slower than usual, but the staff were professional and polite.
Table arrangements were unusual too, with large banquet style seating, so we shared our table with another couple and single chap.
Overall it was an enjoyable meal, though we did feel it was a little over priced.
I booked a table for four people to eat in the White Hart before watching a film in the Barn cinema.
Such a surprising interior and a most stunning main high vaulted roof though we did not eat in this area we were in a cosy area off the main hall. The staff were fabulous very attentive and super friendly. We all had the two course Devon o’clock menu. A delicious fish pie followed by yummy sticky toffee pudding. A hidden gem on the Dartington Estate. Will visit again.
We staying at Dartington Hall, and had eaten at this venue the evening before and had a very
positive experience. We were very surprised that the menu which is limited anyway was exactly
the same as the previous evening, not even a main course special to give a different choice.
Again we had fish cake and pate to start with. As neither of us is particularly fond of fish or mussels
in order to have a change from previous evening we both ordered Sirloin Steak and Chips.
The barman had been very friendly and chatty when purchasing pre dinner drinks to take outside.
On entering the restaurant to eat, initially no member of staff to show us to a table. Eventually a younger member of staff appeared took our name and showed us to a table, we not asked if it suitable, there was no greeting or conversation from the person. When taking our orders no conversation from the waiter
or recommendations regarding dishes. Both courses were plonked-on the table in front of us as when asked for was the bill. During our time in the restaurant it was apparent the younger staff had no people skills and when not serving stood near the desk arms folded looking as though they did not want to be there. On checking the bill I noticed we had been overcharged for each Steak by £3 (the bill produced
By computer and obviously not checked by waiter). On calling the waiter over to explain there was a
mistake on bill he just snatched it off me and took it away, nothing by way of apology.
A short time Later a lady who was apparently in charge came over, and immediately apologised
And explained as the bill had gone through computers he could not change it but would take it over
to reception amended by hand, and have the correct amount debited to our account. This was done immediately and she again apologised. This all said and done we did not have a good experience compared to previous evening.
We were staying at Dartington Hall and chose to eat at The White Hart, their onsight restaurant.
From looking on line at sample menus we knew that it was a small choice menu, for each course,
Which in some ways suits us. We sat in the bar area which has very high ceilings on a large table,
where others diners could sit. There was one other diner at the table on an opposite corner
and we did not interfere with him or vice versa. The staff were all very friendly, polite, helpful
and industrious when not actually serving tables. The starters of liver pate and fish cake,
were well presented, nice and spicy and made from good class ingredients. The mains we ordered
were a risotto and a goat burger and fries. Both were very tasty and you would not have known it was goat, very spicy and full of meat. The price of alcohol here is not over expensive for
a venue of this type, a good selection of wines and ales, including three West Country Ales
On hand pumps. Overall a good experience.
Food was excellent. Chef doing a great job. Room was quite dark, could do with some extra lighting to create a warmer atmosphere.
Husband birthday treat 2nights at the hotel including dinner at the White hart restaurant. Very enjoyable especially the service we had from Alice.
We ate there 2 nights, both times the food was lovely. The waitress was also extremely friendly and helpful
We ate in the White Hart the first evening of our stay. Although the atmosphere was very nice with pleasant surroundings, unfortunately we were very disappointed with our food. We both ordered tarragon chicken, which arrived with the tiniest amount of sauce and tasted very bland. We then realised that it didn't actually come with any vegetables, which was very disappointing, so we ordered one portion of triple cooked fries and a portion of buttered cabbage at a total cost of £8, which we think is very expensive for a tiny portion of vegetables? Also the triple cooked fries were soggy and didn't taste that pleasant. Unfortunately we didn't have the opportunity to complain, as no one came back to us to ask if the meal was okay. We also had to wait a long time for our food even though the restaurant didn't appear to be at maximum capacity. Another problem was the chocolate trifle. Although it tasted okay, we were puzzled by the fact it contained ice cream, which we thought was a bit odd, as we didn't think trifle is supposed to contain ice cream? The wine and the beer we had were nice and also the coffee at the end of the meal, but sadly, as we were completely underwhelmed, we chose not to have dinner there for the remainder of our stay. Apart from that, the White Hart has a lovely relaxed atmosphere and the staff are friendly, but sadly the food is lacking!
The menu was a little limited—only one main meat dish—but the quality of the food and the level of service were very good. During dinner, and at two subsequent breakfasts, the staff were excellent—friendly, helpful and effecienct.
Greatly improved since our last visit - which wasn't bad, just not as good as this time. Steak superb and amazingly tasty. Moules marinieres excellent, the sauce delicious.
We only rated the service as average because, as previously, service is slow and at times inattentive.
On this occasion an inexperienced waiter tipped a tray, and contents of half our drinks order, over one of our guests - he had to eat dinner in wet trousers, which rather spoilt his evening.
In terms of value for money it was good too.
Atrocious service, took half an hour to be given our drinks which were just sitting on the side of the bar and it was only then that the waitress told us they had run out of part of our meal and we would be given a substitute which they would have known within 5 minutes of taking our order. Salt shaker had completely run out so had to ask for another one, and they'd printed our bill before we even finished eating which felt very passive aggressive as if we were being kicked out (nowhere near closing time). Will not be going again.
Sun was shining so we sat outside which was lovely. Only drawback was having to go in to order everything as they didnt do table service outside and all the food came at once. They should say that all main courses come with veg as we ordered more, then realised some of the sides hadn't arrived! Having said that the food was excellent, bit limited on the wine list but overall a lovely Easter Sunday lunch and will return.
A lovely location but disappointing selection of mains compared with the last time we visited. The desserts have also been better before
the evening meal was very good in taste although service was a little slow.
Breakfast was a shambles with things constantly running out and we were having to keep on asking for things, such as croissants,bacon etc. The coffee was foul.
The staff were pleasant and helpful.
With reservations. We found that the tables were pushed too close together and squeezing through to our seat a glass of wine on the table next to us was knocked over, staining clothes and cushions. Our table was pushed right up to the radiator which made it uncomfortably hot. We found the menu rather limited but the food we ordered we enjoyed.
The food was excellent -- we had the hake (with seasonal greens) and the onion tart (with slaw), followed by the pannacotta and the sticky toffee pudding. However, service was slow, and the guy who seemed to be in charge of the restaurant on Sunday had three attempts to get our bill right. (On the first try, only the desserts were right; the drinks and mains were someone else's. On the second attempt the food was right, but the drinks were still wrong. And I only noticed later that the third attempt, which itemised the right things, and which we therefore paid, actually undercharged us for the two mains.) The main dining room at the White Hart is a fantastic double-height medieval room, and the new arrangement of seating diners around large square tables is nice. But there's always going to be an issue with the restaurant being the same room as the bar. People gathering before the concert tended to crowd round the diners.
Beautiful surroundings, very atmospheric, food tasted fantastic and good value for money.
Our overall experience has always been very good at The White Hart. We have rarely been disappointed with service, value or quality/quantity of the food. Our waitstaff was very attentive but weren't overly hovering. Great atmosphere in the snug; unfortunately, the fireplace had not been lit to give the rainy day a more cozy feel. The only downside, however, was that I booked this lunch for my husband's birthday (which I mentioned in the booking) but was a bit surprised that The White Hart didn't mention it or present him with a small, complimentary dessert as most Open Table establishments that we have booked through do.
