Excellent Sunday Roast. The sirloin of beef was particularly good
We came here as couldn’t get into The Tilbury and noticed they had a sister restaurant so thought we would give it a try! First of all we felt the restaurant had a lack of atmosphere and even when it eventually was filled with people it felt like it was missing something.
The service was quite good, not exceptional but good. We came for mother’s day and luckily my mother and father in law were happy with their food but my husbands food was bland and both ours lacked seasoning. He also felt the portions were too small which we rarely complain about nowadays even in Michelin star restaurants.
I had the broccoli soup which was nice apart from lack of seasoning which was easily rectified however the beef burger I had for my main course was the worst I have ever had. There were 2 very thin burnt and tough burgers and one was inedible as it had an awful tang to it - I was worried it was rancid meat so I got my husband to try and he also said it didn’t taste right.
When they collected the food they did refund us for this meal as they asked what was wrong and did offer a replacement so the service was good here, but I wish the food was of a high standard without the need for them to refund meals.
My daughters main course came with our starters which was too early and then we found out they had cooked her chicken when we had asked for fish! They also refunded us for this too which was a nice gesture.
All in all we won’t be coming back unfortunately.
First time there, just lovely..... good food & super service! Would definitely recommend
This was our first visit to the White Hart, on a Sunday lunchtime with friends. It was well worth the gamble and a very positive experience. The main points were the quality of the cooking, the generous servings of beef, etc and the extensive wine list. Not to mention the friendly service. The menu choice is a bit limited for Sunday lunch, relative to the evening menu, although that is not unusual.
Had a delicious fish and chips here but the dessert let the whole meal down. It was fairly tasteless and the chef had forgotten to add ice cream - by the time we had sent it back it was cold. There were hardly any other customers eating there and the two waiters were confused about who was serving us - we had everything offered to us twice which was irritating .
Excellent service, attention to detail, beautiful food which was presented and at a perfectly reasonable price...loved it
Phenomenal food. Everything was well presented, well combined and perfectly cook.
We had a amazing roast it practically melted in the mouth.
Really enjoyed our meal and can’t believe we’d not been before as it’s not too far from us. Would recommend and go again.
We were not particularly impressed with our latest Sunday lunch. We both had the roast lamb which was not very lean with some of the meat inedible. It also did not look very appealing on the plate. We always love their gin & tonics though!!
Great food and fabulous service
Ambience , service and food quality all very good, just a pity the main course
portion sizes were so meagre especially when ingredients are a minor cost in a restaurant.
Fantastic food (steak and chips) and excellent service from adam!
Amazing food and wine!
Food and service were excellent. It was our first visit but we shall definitely be returning. We came with friends but shall definitely be introducing our family to The White Hart
Had a great New Year's Day roast lunch here. Portion sizes were very generous and our beef was lovely and tender with great roasted veg. The staff were friendly and attentive and also good with our 2 and 4 year olds. They were happy to accommodate our fussy eater's request for broccoli instead of peas with his sausage and mash! The dining room was pretty quiet, but I think that was more to do with the time of day (we had a 12pm booking as we have young kids and therefore no new year hangovers to nurse!) We will definitely be back.
Great food that was enjoyed by all the family. Meal sizes were spot on - not to big and not to small so plates were cleared. Always know you are eating in a quality restaurant when they heat the plates so the foods not like warm when it gets to you.
Went for a family Boxing Day lunch. Food was a set menu. Very nice food. Well presented and delicious. Service good. Will definitely book again.
We took family for lunch Christmas Eve. The staff were as always, friendly and attentive. We had the Sunday lunch, 4 went with beef, I had lamb. It was lovely, great selection of vegetables. No room for dessert sadly.
The food was good and so was the service. The waiters were helpful and the atmosphere was cosy.
Birthday with friends. I was given a bottle of wine and a greeting plate.
Brilliant service and food lovely - especially for a group of 10 the week before Christmas.
All very tasty but soup a bit nondescript. Squash sponge excellent. Pork and salmon very good.
The food was really tasty. I didn't need to put salt and pepper on my meal, which is always a good indicator for me that the food is full of flavour. Creative/imaginative vegetarian options, not standard fayre. The service we had was great. Went there on a date night, though we've been together 15 years, and it felt like a special night out without a huge bill at the end. We paid £75 between the two of us, and that includes the tip. For good food, good service and, again, lovely food!
Good meal on a not very nice night. All starters were good . Terrine very filling. Main were also good. Soft shell crab burger exceptional.
Minor (!) criticism from those of us that know both Tilbury and here is the a la carte menu at full price includes most if not all that is on the sister venue seasonal menu but not at two and three course prices, £26.50 & 29.50 respectively. However the quality and flair shown in the starters and mains means this kitchen is neck and neck with the Tilbury. What more can you want? Well, the wine we had exceeded expectation and is a favourite that I have defaulted to over the past 4/5 years. No name means there may be more for those of us that value this terrific example of Young French wine at its best! Keep it up Bain & Bridges because we are worth it !!
Food was really tasty. Wine was a little expensive. Small portions. My other half had the Christmas pudding for dessert and it was tiny! My starter was fab...squash sponge with burnt cauliflower cheese...delicious. Very nice atmosphere for an evening meal.
Excellent meal great service definitely recommend to friends and family
Excellent meal fantastic service and exceptionally reasonably priced could not fault would recommend to anyone
We have just moved into the area and The White Hart was recommend to us. We have now visited on a few occasions and have enjoyed the food everytime especially Sunday Lunch
- Waitress didn’t seem to know about booking
- no option asked on what type of tea
- cold toast
- would have expected better toast, such as thick granary bread?
- no butter, had to ask
- smallest slice of smoked salmon
- plates not cleared
- not asked if we wanted to order any more drinks etc
Really not what expected this restaurant to be like
Started off well but rapidly deteriorated. One meal was served with parts uncooked, then when sent back, it returned with a very unhealthy change. The manger apologised but it completely spoiled our outing.
Food was more about presentation than taste. Service came across as lacking in training. eg main course was being served before starters were finished and or cleared.
Had to decide if we wanted pudding at time of ordering starters and mains because they wanted to shut kitchen.
Shame because we had previously had an excellent Sunday lunch there.
Service was first rate, and all the starters were excellent. However none of us enjoyed our mains that much. Food was warm but not hot ( the plates were very hot,), pork loin was tough, and the soft shell crab came with greasy coleslaw. We didn’t have an dessert but the bill was £135 for 4 people and only one bottle of wine. So, Ok, but not great. I’d probably go back to see if it could be better.
Lovely restaurant with friendly staff. Even though the restaurant was busy some of my party arrived late due to traffic problems. The staff still made us feel very comfortable and accomodated us at a later time. Lovely food especially the fish and chips. The restaurant is perfect for lunch or evening meal. Definitely would recommend this restaurant.
Great food and attentive staff. We all had a fabulous night.
The best Sunday roast in the area, meat cooked to perfection and the gravy was first class. Kids meals were also great and wonderful value.
We had a lovely meal. Beautifully cooked and presented, and the taste matched it. Not the most complicated sounding dishes but, in reality, everything sampled showed a high level of technical skills. I would recommend people try the chocolate cake, it was nothing like I expected but tasted fantastic. Service was absolutely fabulous, both staff that served us were friendly and professional. The only issue was that the ambience was a little soulless but that is not enough to detract from a first class experience.
Attentive friendly staff - calm atmosphere and good food
It is not often that I will complete another review, in quick succession, but I was so impressed with the food served to me last week, I thought it would add value. I had the veg option soup and toastie which was gorgeous, followed by pumpkin cake for my main, again very good. Kids shared bread and garlic butter, followed by the burger with fries, which is excellent value. My wife had the whole soft crab, again as a burger. The main reason for the repeat review is that I was so impressed with the change in menu, so soon after my last visit and the quality of service received. Being a vegetarian, I have to jump from place to place to get variety, so I will visit soon and I know that I will be very happy with my meal. Well done The White Hart.
