Sunday - Lunch 1200-1900
We had a lovely Sunday lunch. We had started of cured salmon, pickled cucumber and horseradish. My elderly father in law misunderstood it wasn’t cooked salmon so when it arrived he said he couldn’t eat it. The staff were so polite and efficient in changing to a butternut squash soup which he loved. The directors was a little flat. Overall, as ever, amazing food. Thank you.
We went on a Tuesday lunchtime & had already booked a table. However, as we were the only customers, we had lunch in the bar. The food was very good & service excellent but I dont really enjoy eating on our own as we like a bit of atmosphere. To be honest, if we hadnt booked, probally would have looked for an alternative. Im sure its great at the weekend when there a few more customers
We enjoyed a good meal which was well presented and served.
Excellent restaurant. We took family for a Sunday lunch and this may be the best Sunday lunch I have had in years. Thanks
Always good since Bain and Bridges took over. Exceptional service, with a very helpful and knowledgeable sommelier. And great food ... although to be honest I was a little disappointed with the menu this time. There was always pub food done well but there was also fine dining with some amazing creative flair. This was just gastropub - very good gastropub, what's not to like about a soft-shell crab burger? - but not the rich and varied choice and clever flavour combinations there used to be. Maybe that's what Welwyn wants (and will pay for) but I missed the way it used to be.
Nothing wrong with this charming pub per se, and the serving staff were warm and friendly and without fault.
Two guest real ales on tap when we visited which were well kept.
The menu was a touch uninspired, but that said the dishes we ordered were well executed.
It could do with being more competitively priced.
First time back at the White Hart to eat for over a year - the set menu was/is excellent value for money hence the 5 stars which also accounts for the service and food quality - my ham hock starter was superb! Ambience marked down only because it was unusual and very strange - we appeared to be the only diners present which gave us privacy but.........just have to go back again and choose differently from menus that would appear to have something for most people!
Another fabulous meal at the White Hart last Saturday. Two of us are veggies and the food was delicious. Service was great and Adam's wine suggestion amazing!
Very lovely restaurant with good service and a good menu.
Fabulous food and service was impecable, would highly recommend
The food was very nice. Good service. Parking available on site. We will return.
Excellent food and service - we are regulars and it is consistently excellent
Simply fabulous! We always enjoy ourselves at the White Hart, the service, food and wine first class.
Friendly well-informed staff, imaginative, well cooked, good value menu. Thank you for a great evening!
Absolutely the best restaurant for an amazing elevate Sunday Lunch. The staff are outstanding excellent knowledge of both food and wine. The menu is great - varied with frequent changes. You are equally able to get an excellent elevated fish and chips or a fine dining meal. This has something for everyone. The best roast dinner ever sampled- and consistent time after time. Also a fab range of gins and cocktails that are far better than the usual offering. Cannot recommend highly enough.
From the moment we arrived we were looked after. Food was amazing, I had the sea trout, setting was perfect. Couldn't ask for more.
The food and service were excellent. However, the positioning of our table was dreadful - partly the narrow width and tall height did awful things with bouncing the noise around, but we were far too close to the next table and they were awful. We couldn't hear ourselves think, let alone speak. There were only 4 of them, but they were loud and complaining (not about the restaurant, but rather about life and people in general); it rather ruined our evening. I know that's not the Restaurant's fault, but they were far too close even if they'd been reasonable, particularly with the way noise is bounced around in the alcove-type area where we were placed. So, we'd go again, and even recommend it, but would have to ask to eat in a different part of the dining area.
Good food. Good setting. Excellent and friendly service. Perfect for our birthday celebration.
The White Hart is a lovely village hotel, with good road links nearby (A1M), it’s which benefits from onsite parking. It has a nice bar with a good selection of drinks, including some craft options and bar food.
Heading downstairs opens out to an airy and clean restaurant with flexible dining space which attracts families and couples.
We visited on Fathers Day so a set menu was provided with an excellent selection of offerings, including roast lamb and beef. 2 courses were £25 or 3 for £29. A reasonably priced kids menu was available for £5 or £6.50 for a kids roast.
The food and service was very good, my wife commented that her lamb was exceptional.
Overall highly recommended and only losing one star from a perfect five due to our table be cited next to the stairs to the cellar. Unfortunately whenever the door was opened an strong smell from the food overpowered our food.
Overall a very enjoyable meal and we will visit again.
Just eaten here for the third time in recent months - a Sunday roast, a date night and a birthday (also a Sunday lunchtime). Food is exceptionally good, and service is outstanding. The waitress picked up from our conversation that it was my birthday and did a special version of my dessert with a candle - unexpected and touching. Also, I'm a massive dessert lover, but the cheeseboard is a thing of beauty if you can fit it in (which I did on a previous occasion!)
Lovely restaurant, the service was very good, food tasty . Will definitely go back
Trendy restaurant. Very friendly staff. Good quality ingredients, well cooked. Had to wait quite a while between courses. Tables set so it was private. Very clean.
Food was exceptional, staff couldn't have been more helpful and welcoming. Thoroughly enjoyable meal.
Went to The White Heart for a Sunday lunch with family. We had a drink first in the bar area, very pleasant. The staff in both bar & restaurant could not have been more helpful.
All our meals came up together & no complaints from anyone. The Sunday roast are rather large not sure if they do smaller portions for elderly or children. We will definitely be going back.
Food was good, though the dessert menu choice was average. Cheeseboard was excellent but my wife's trio chocolate cake was bland and tastes a little stale. Good choice of wines and drinks. Service was friendly, informative but slow. Overall though a good night's food and drink and we would go back.
Excellent as always. Great food and service. There was a slight hiccup with some dishes that were marked as vegetarian but contained non-veggie ingredients: Parmesan (which is common enough on menus) and gelatine (which is less forgivable). We've returned a few times over the years, partly because the veggie offer is always unusually good so this was worrying and disappointing. But the maitre d' was quick to liaise with the kitchen to understand the issue, apologise and suggest alternatives. The kitchen then also provided a special, extra, veggie dish by way of apology, which was very welcome. They said they would fix the menu - I really hope they do. No problems with the carnivore dishes, which were typically delicious.
Quite enjoyed the evening. The service was very good. the food was well presented but some of us felt that although the main ingredients were good quality some details were quite average and lacked flavour. The steak was a highlight. Ambience was good, though temperature of surroundings (and food!) was a little on the cool side. I suppose our expectations were a bit high having frequented the Tilbury from time to time.
What an amazing starter Spinach Panna Cotta - wine as usual was delightful
Very pleasant evening with friends, this is the second time we’ve met at the White Hart as Welwyn is a half way point. Great food, ambience and service. Looking forward to returning.
Just a wonderful evening, food, service and ambiance first class.
Not a restaurant I had visited before but was recommended by a friend. Lovely ambience, attentive waiting staff and good food.
Lovely lunch here for Easter Sunday. My husband enjoyed his roast beef and my lamb was melt in the mouth. Kids gobbled up theirs too! Service good- attentive but not too over the top.
My wife, daughter and I had a wonderful time, celebrating our wedding anniversary.
Really enjoyed the lunch. Had rump of lamb which was so well cooked. Just melted in the mouth. Definitely go again and recommend it.
This was our first visit, 4 of us celebrating my father's 85th birthday. The welcome was warm, friendly and professional. The menu had unusual, interesting dishes. (Thoroughly recommend the lamb!). The service was perfect - attentive yet inobstrusive, friendly and knowledgable staff. Fabulous wine list, appropriate glassware selected. The dining room is a beautiful, high ceilinged room with lovely tucked away tables pleasantly spaced apart. I would absolutely recommend The White Hart and will definitely be returning.
Very nice food & excellent service, good value for money
Really excellent service and food. Thank you! X
Excellent Sunday Roast. The sirloin of beef was particularly good
Booked The White Hart for Mothers Day (for my wife, on behalf of the kids!) with the special menu. We all had roast beef. What a lovely experience. Fantastic venue, food is superb and excellent service from the waiting staff. We wouldn't normally have three courses, especially when the main was so generous, but we were glad we opted for dessert. We will definitely be back.
We came here as couldn’t get into The Tilbury and noticed they had a sister restaurant so thought we would give it a try! First of all we felt the restaurant had a lack of atmosphere and even when it eventually was filled with people it felt like it was missing something.
The service was quite good, not exceptional but good. We came for mother’s day and luckily my mother and father in law were happy with their food but my husbands food was bland and both ours lacked seasoning. He also felt the portions were too small which we rarely complain about nowadays even in Michelin star restaurants.
I had the broccoli soup which was nice apart from lack of seasoning which was easily rectified however the beef burger I had for my main course was the worst I have ever had. There were 2 very thin burnt and tough burgers and one was inedible as it had an awful tang to it - I was worried it was rancid meat so I got my husband to try and he also said it didn’t taste right.
When they collected the food they did refund us for this meal as they asked what was wrong and did offer a replacement so the service was good here, but I wish the food was of a high standard without the need for them to refund meals.
My daughters main course came with our starters which was too early and then we found out they had cooked her chicken when we had asked for fish! They also refunded us for this too which was a nice gesture.
All in all we won’t be coming back unfortunately.
