The White Horse - Brancaster Staithe
The White Horse is gloriously situated on the marshland coastline of North Norfolk at Brancaster Staithe, a designated area of outstanding beauty.
The dining room and adjoining conservatory restaurant serves seasonal, local produce seven days a week. Shellfish when in season includes cockles, mussels and oysters from the 'beds' at the bottom of the garden.Fish delivered to the kitchen door by the village fishermen.
A friendly welcome is guaranteed along with a high standard of service in informal surroundings.
Our Open Table booking was mishandled by the restaurants system so our deliberately pre-booked table to ensure a clear view of the Staithe was unavailable upon arrival. We were offered a table towards the back of the room and enjoyed a nice lunch although there was a long wait between courses. From previous experience of this busy restaurant it is essential to pre-book a slot so it was disappointing to be slightly let down on this occasion.
Thank you for your review, apologies for the mishap with your booking this was an anomaly. We are please you enjoyed your lunch and we hope to see you soon. The White Horse Brancaster Staithe
A good restaurant if you’re in the area. Lovely views over the Staithe. Nice selection of food. Tasty too. Staff friendly. Bar or restaurant eating and bar menu is available in restaurant. Ask for window table. Gets busy in summer especially the outside.
Thank you for your lovely review, we hope to see you again soon. The White Horse Brancaster Staithe.
Just as we expected, ideal for an autumn lunch. On this occasion, the service was a little off the pace
Thank you for your kind review, we are pleased you enjoyed your lunch and are confident that service will be back up to speed for your next visit. The White Horse Brancaster Staithe.
Delicious food. Good selection of locally sourced food. Staff were helpful and a lovely setting for an evening meal.
Thank you for your review, we are delighted you enjoyed your evening, and look forward to welcoming you back. The White Horse Brancaster Staithe.
We had an wonderful lunch, we was given the best table in the restaurant with an amazing view. We was treated to a complimentary glass of fizz on arrival and a birthday card.
The food as always was delicious and so fresh.
We will be back and thank you for making our birthday celebration one to remember.
Thank your for taking the time to write a lovely review, we are always delighted to make peoples birthdays as memorable as we can. The White Horse Brancaster Staithe.
Fantastic meal for my partners birthday. The service was superb from start to finish and we will be returning in the near future.
Thank you for a lovely review, hope to see you again soon. The White Horse Brancaster Staithe.
The food was tasteful but there wasn’t a great choice.
The vegetarian options were limited and was served lukewarm as was all the food.
The staff were ok but made a few mistakes with our drink orders.
We therefore were a little disappointed as it was a birthday treat for my 84 year old Dad.
The view and location sells the place it was fantastic !
Thank you for taking you time to write a review, we apologise for any mishaps, this is not our usual standard. We do have a bar menu, and also a vegan menu upon request. We also change our menu seasonally. We hope to see you again soon, The White Horse Brancaster Staithe.
Sunday lunch with friends on a very wet day.Good views over the marshes to the sea despite the rain.
Food good though vegetables could be better in variety and cabbage overcooked.
Service friendly and not over attentive
fair value for money
will come again
Thank you for taking the time to write a review, we are pleased you had a lovely day despite the weather. We hope to see you again soon. The White Horse Brancaster Staithe.
the lobster was superb and our waitress, Sandra was a star.
Lovely venue overlooking the Staithe...seaside decor with a lovely buzzy vibe
Lovely atmosphere and decor. Fantastic food and attentive staff. I would thoroughly recommend the white horse and will definitely return in future.
Food was Ok but over priced. Nice location but I think they were exploiting this at the expense of the food
We had a birthday lunch to celebrate my husbands 70th birthday. Staff were helpful very friendly and attentive. The food was superb well presented and of excellent quality just the right size so room for a delicious dessert. We had different starters celeriac soup was delicious and hot freshly made bread went down well. Mains were split between fish and chips, courgette risotto, smoked cod and pork. We all agreed that the Brandy snap with a chocolate filling was out of this world. We would throughly recommend the White Horse for any meal. The view from the restaurant across the marshes is second to none we had blue sky and sun but even if the weather was awful the ambience and view would still be worth it. For a Monday the restaurant was really busy which was good a lively atmosphere.
Pork was cold sent back returned still cold mussels for another guest on table didn’t come with meals the when they did come were over cooked
Great time wonderful place Oysters and muscles yum
My main course was cold and the beetroot impenetrable. I was pleased the price of that course was removed from the bill.
It’s been a number of years since we last visited The White Horse despite visiting the area regularly, we saw on this visit what we’ve been missing. Excellent food, very good service, friendly staff and a good atmosphere. I’m sure we’ll be bab before too long.
The sauce with the muscles was almost tasteless. Smoking prawns is not a good idea - they became very soft and initially we thought they were off. Other parts of the meal were excellent.
Great food, service and location. Can’t wait to return
Beautiful restaurant in a beautiful setting in Brancaster Staithe. The oysters were so fresh and juicy; the last time I had such excellent oysters was in Wilson, London at 3 times the price! Husband ordered the mussels and crab, he was very happy with his food. I thought my freshly caught and simply cooked brill was excellent and beat his crab hands down!! Service by the mostly young staffs were efficient and friendly. Love this place and can't wait to go back again!
Food is always superb. Really can’t think of a single negative think only positive. Caters for young and old and all taste buds.
Fantastic food, service and location !
I love the location of The White Horse with its restaurant overlooking the marshes, stunning outlook. The staff were all attentive and service prompt. I chose the locally smoked salmon which was delicious and my partners steak cooked to perfection. I don’t normally go for a dessert, however, I can recommend the Hibiscus Pannacotta which was beautifully presented and tasted amazing a definite favourite. All I all a truly great anniversary lunch.
A beautiful setting and attractive room. The staff were very friendly and the food delicious.
Delicious food, great service and a view second to none.
Food and service were excellent. Sadly the group at the next table were rather loud, but this seems to be more the norm these days!
We were given a table in the Conservatory so were able to make the most of the fabulous views.
The Service was excellent, and the food absolutely delicious except for the deserts which were disappointing in comparison to the rest of the meal. The Lemon Tart was over cooked and tough and the hibiscus panna cotta too heavy and overpowered by the strawberry coulis which was a shame. We were offered complimentary coffees which were accompanied by a delicious orange and coconut chocolate so the evening did end on a positive note.
The food was great and the staff all friendly attentive and efficient. The food prices reflected these points. Our one criticism was that wine prices were so high; my wife had one glass while my thoughts on sharing a bottle evaporated and I just enjoyed a long of beer! Notwithstanding this, our compliments go to all the kitchen staff too; what a lovely way to celebrate our wedding anniversary!
We look forward to our annual visit to the White Horse with friends for the food, the views and good service. The food was outstanding, though lemon tart dessert combinations a bit obscure; the views as the light faded wonderful, but the service was somewhat off key.... wrong bottle of wine brought, question re menu not able to be answered nor did our waiter come back with answer. After clearing plates from main course, asked if we wanted the dessert menu but it didn't come, so we had to ask a second time. Nothing major but just not as good as previously and certainly will not deter us from coming back for more tempura oysters and skate wing.
The food was very nice but the service was poor. The staff were friendly but we had to get our own menus and ask for water 3 times. Disappointing, overall.
The venue is in a fantastic location but we were disappointed by the menu choices.
The lobster bisque had no flavour and main courses were a let down.
The food was amazing, the view was excellent and the service was great and the waitress was really polite
Came here based on reviews and wasn’t disappointed with the food. I was a little disappointed that the decor wasn’t quite as elegant as the food its self. We was expecting the a la Carter feel but it felt more like an expensive pub. It wouldn’t stop me coming back though as what we ate was delicious
Amazing. Justin our waitress was great. Really attentive. Loved everything. Food. Service. Will be coming again soon
Brilliant setting wonderful helpful staff look forward to a return. Excellent evening.
The view was stunning with the tide in the creeks and the sun out. This added immensely to the experience.
High prices for what really was an average fare. The White Horse has a good reputation and it seemed as though they were basking in that reputation without feeling the need to maintain standards.
One member of our party was denied his first choice main course, halibut, because the only fish left was too big for one so he could only have it if he shared it. Seriously?!!
Our waitress however was their saving grace, a charming girl.
We enjoyed an excellent dinner at the White Horse. After some initial confusion over the menu (there are two menus for the bar and restaurant served by two different kitchens), we managed to order exactly what we wanted. The waitress Sandra was extremely helpful in ensuring that we were served the cold lobster in the restaurant though it only appears on the bar menu. Many thanks
Unwelcoming staff, very slow service, staff didn’t seem to understand ‘English’, food not hot barely warm, very disappointing & would not recommend!
Arrived a bit early for our evening booking and found seats on the balcony ~ very lucky enjoying amazing sunset during a heatwave bank holiday. Told someone would collect us when table was ready. I asked for a dinner menu was given one bar version. Just before 9pm husband enquired about our table (we'd booked for 8.30) ~ told it was ready. Given one dinner menu, no mention of specials. The courses I fancied from the website weren't available so asked if I could choose from the bar meals. We made allowances as the place was heaving , obviously a Bank Holiday and staff very busy. Bar staff a bit surly ~ it was very hot and by Bank Hol Mon probably getting frazzled. Seeing the card our waitress wished me a happy anniversary but ignored my husband (having first asked dubiously if it was our anniversary). Inappropriate cutlery, much muddle until we had a change of waiter, things improved. Not very friendly but we won him over in the end ~ and he was efficient. Can't really appreciate all the fuss about The White Horse, apart from the sunset ~ and that's the reason we would recommend it. Might try again out of season.
