Lovely food & atmosphere, good wine list, nice staff, minor point was that portions were on small side, even for fine dining!
Excellent restaurant. Second visit there. High dining. Every mouthful full of flavor. Probably doesn’t matter what you select from menu as it’s all so good. Service attentive yet not intrusive. Higher price but worth it.
Best restaurant in Wimbledon village, and the food is always delicious.
We've been coming here for a number of years and it was faultless as usual. This was for our 5th wedding anniversary and the level of service was outstanding from our server Johan.
The food was delicious and the wine pairing excellent.
Felt really safe in COVID times with good spacing between tables.
Fantastic food. Very well crafted. Great ingredients. Had octopus starter which was super tender and delicate then venison for the main which was beautifully cooked, flavoursome and came with the truffle mash and jus that perfectly complemented the meat. Already looking forward to going back.
My dinner was wonderful, my husbands was very good but thought that mine was better. It was quiet in the beginning but the noise levels did go up as the evening progressed. All in all a lovely evening.
Delicious food, reasonably priced and good service. It felt that the necessary covid precautions were in place.
Always outstanding. The best restaurant in the village for fine food, professional/attentive service and a fantastic cocktail list. The menu is seasonal, everything is so fresh, beautifully presented and delicious. The ambience in the evening is perfect for a special occasion, but equally relaxed for a spontaneous treat. Will return again and again (provided foie gras is not on the menu x).
Food was spot on. I had looked at loads of menu’s online for decent fish dishes that were affordable and this hit the spot. I was not disappointed. Also great was the 125ml small glass of wine, so i paired a glass with each dish. It was a wedding anniversary and my wife was very happy. All in all, high quality food and good value. P.s. choc mouse which is normally a bad choice was what you would expect in a £150pph restaurant. Enjoy!
Excellent service, all social distancing measures scrupulously met.
Food was good- starters could have been more interesting but mains and pud fab! Really lovely cocktails too!!
Always a good experience at this restaurant!
Never fails to give a delicious meal and lovely evening
Beautiful food - Amazing service
Recommend the duck egg. Very happy with the visit and will return
The food was first class. The service was efficient and attentive, without being oppressive. And the wine was very good.
Faultless service , delicious food!
Back again for a wonderful meal it was just prefect . Hopefully see you soon
Now a local favorite, a tram ride and short taxi ride from where we live. On a sunny Sunday Wimbledon Village was busy and you would barely know that the country was in virus pandemic. But the White Onion was clean, our window table safely distanced, and serving staff wearing face masks. We had no concerns about security. Sunday menu is £25.50 for 3 courses and I guess they can hold it at that price as the VAT element within it is now 5%. I had my favorite chicken liver on toasted French bread, sea bass, and a raspberry financier (a small cake with a sorbet). The rose Pinot Grigio was a good accompaniment, The restaurant was fully booked and they turned away some casual arrivals
We love this place. The food, staff and service and the setting are all superb. The only negative was a table of loud and foul mouthed customers nearby, who were the exception to the rest of the diners.
Our first restaurant visit since lockdown. Saturday lunchtime was very busy, so a good atmosphere and nice to feel normal again. Very good food, and an excellent value set lunch.
Fabulous food. Sadly service was poor - slow, ignored and not warm friendly. Such a shame - sort it out please. The kitchen deserves their quality work to be reflected in good service.
This was my first visit to this restaurant. The food was delicious (the portions were not big, which suited me fine). I haven't eaten anything so tasty for a long time and the dishes were so beautifully presented. The service was excellent. Our Italian waitress, Federica, was delightful and served us most proficiently. I will certainly return here again.
We ate early evening and the restaurant was quiet. The duck egg starter was substantial and excellent but the melon and scallop ceviche was swimming in a lime juice dressing which overpowered the scallops. Mains, sea bass and wagyu beef, were both first rate. Service was very attentive and quietly friendly. Carafe wines were of good value. Overall a very good experience.
Was amused at small cheseboard. Needs to be bigger board and more extensive. Why have books next to it?
Found menu limiting but the food I had was excellent. The chef knows his craft!
One of the best restaurants we’ve been to for a while - a great find!
The best food and friendliest wait staff! They practiced social distancing and were masked which was very reassuring.
Always an excellent menu and staff are courteous and efficient. They also wear masks which is greatly appreciated
The menu is broad and the dishes were finely prepared & beautifully presented. The service was excellent! Couldn’t be improved in my opinion.
Great place for family dinner!! I will recommend it for my friends
Excellent food, portions on the small side but sufficient. Good service but way too noisy acoustics really bad but not their fault as most Wimbledon village restaurants built in same shape
Excellent food and service
Was recommended and glad we were, food, service both excellent, little strange with soc distance but never mind.
Our second restaurant outing since lockdown in six months, lunch on Friday.
It was yet another triumph for The White Onion. Food delicious as always, staff very attentive, and overall ambiance lovely. Very good quality for money.
If you are nervous about going out, The White Onion is doing everything necessary for you to have a nice, relaxed and safe meal out. You won’t be disappointed. We certainly were not and are already planning next visit.
A beautiful meal for a wedding anniversary which was remembered on the menu and dessert plates. Great service and delicious food - tomato tarte tatin and wagu beef highly recommended.
We were celebrating my daughter’s birthday and it was our first meal out since lockdown, so we were a little apprehensive. We were given a warm welcome on arrival and the service was friendly and efficient. We had the crispy duck egg for starters, followed by the wagyu beef for main, which were faultless. Also highly recommend the Wimbledon strawberry dessert, with miniature meringues.
Excellent service, great food - a little pricey but recommend!
Fabulous in every way. What else is there to say?
Cannot recommend this restaurant enough. The food offerings are varied and delicious and incredibly good value. A friendly atmosphere, lovely interior and great service.
Nice food apart from the deep fried broccoli. Good value with the Sunday meal deal. Overall very happy. I like this restaurant a lot.
Went for dinner. On the plus side - lovely atmosphere and the service is as good as I’ve had anywhere. On the not so good side - the food was average. All cooked well but just style over substance. Was really looking forward to it and having read a lot of the reviews thought it was going to be a lot better. Very expensive for what it was and won’t go back unless I hear things have changed. Shame as great set up and service and decent wine list too.
Food was excellent and staff very friendly. Went there for a birthday and the staff surprised us by printing Happy Birthday on the menu and offering a small "birthday" desert for free. Prices are relatively high but definitely worth it.
My husband and I love to have a date night here. The food has never disappointed and the service is always great. We both started with a cocktail, had a starter, main and dessert and it was all delicious. The scallop starter exceeded my expectations. The White Onion is our favourite restaurant in Wimbledon...although we’ve not tried many because we can’t risk going somewhere else where we might be disappointed!
