Large groups are also welcome at our restaurant.
Food superb and staff friendly but not overly attentive
Really lovely little place, really good value for such lovely fresh food which was presented so nicely. The waiting staff were great, really friendly and attentive and not pretentious at all. Would definitely like to go back!
The restaurant is nice, but the food is over priced for what it is. The portions are small (especially the lamp and beef wellington). For £26 for a main, I’d expect it to come with more vegetables. The bread was also fairly stale and the service was scarce on occasions. We enjoyed our evening, but won’t be returning.
Lovely food, well thought out and prepared, service impeccable.
Ambiance more like a local restaurant than a formal restaurant, so you can relax and be yourself.
Only a matter of time before it attracts a star from Michelin or someone else :)
Excellent food, wide choice of dishes, good portions with excellent service. Extensive wine list although wine list was quite pricy. Excellent meal enjoyed by everyone in our party.
Delicious high quality food which is expertly cooked. The service is great and the staff are friendly. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for an extra special meal out in Wimbledon.
Food was lovely, the staff were really friendly and knowledgable. Would definitely come again
Food was very impressive.
Service was great, good people.
Cocktails a must have.
Atmosphere, classy but not stuffy.
The food is incredible, the service is exemplary. Average price per head around £65, but very good value for money. A great restaurant
Absolutely perfect : food, service, ambiance, price.
Lovely local restaurant atmosphere but with West End standard food. Beautifully presented dishes using fresh British ingredients. The chef combines flavours so each dish is a pleasure to eat. Highly recommend for a night out with friends or a treat as a family
The service at White Onion was outstanding. Water and wine were discreetly topped up throughout the evening. The bread ( particularly the Gruyere bread) was delicious. The only complaint was that the cod was overcooked and slightly chewy but the delicious vegetables and pudding made up for it.
Fantastic birthday meal, the gift of a free dessert most welcome
We had a fantastic lunch. We had the three course lunch on a Sunday. The food was fantastic. The staff were also really great - they made great recommendations, they were very attentive and accommodating to my 1 year nephew. The wine list is extensive so the onsite sommelier is a great bonus - and helped us expand our vino horizons. I will definitely go back.
As always, the food and service were excellent. Would always recommend (and have recommended) this restaurant to anyone who cares to listen.
Excellent quality all round . Great value
We went there for my husbands birthday lunch! The lunch menu was amazing! The service was brilliant and vino lovely! I am still thinking of that chocolate and peanut tart!
Will definitely go back!
Excellent quality food. Really nice staff.
I wish they were open more weekday lunchtimes so I could entertain clients here more often.
A party of five enjoyed a relaxed evening celebrating a birthday in a convivial atmosphere . A night of excellent food and friendly service .
Very professional yet friendly service. Value conscious and creative wine list that still had the classics one would expect for this level of cuisine. Everything we ordered was delicious.
Lovely food and attentive service without being intrusive. Good selection of dishes & the nicest dessert I’ve had in ages - would wholeheartedly recommend the Gingerbread profiterole! We’ve been a few times & have never been disappointed.
A fantastic dinner. This was our first time here and we had a brilliant meal. It was my wife's birthday and they had printed "Happy birthday Elise" on our menus which was a very nice touch. We had such great food (we both had the Venison Wellington for main - so good), and the desserts - I had the chocolate, caramel, peanut tart - were perfect too. It is very pricey, but you certainly get what you pay for. We will definitely be back some day.
My Friend and I had a wonderful evening to celebrate our birthdays at the White onion. We thoroughly enjoyed every dish we had, the service was excellent and the ambience was lovely. I would highly recommend this restaurant.
It was a very pleasant, but not special, meal, nicely served, but pricey for what it was even in Wimbledon.
The highest quality of service, food, wine & cocktails you will find in Wimbledon. The menu changes with the seasons and the fresh ingredients really shine through. There are always delicious, well thought out vegetarian options as well as sumptuous meat dishes. A little sad to see a foie gras sauce on the menu though - is it really necessary when the dishes stand out without it. Will go back - if foie gras is not on the menu.
I went there for my own birthday, they customised a menu print out with a happy birthday message, which is extremely thoughtful. The service was prompt and rather attentive despite being extremely busy. All of them are nice and polite too. So I was really impressed on that.
The food was good. But it could be better. The presentation was there. The taste of individual element in the plate was also good but in my personal opinion, it’s lacking of a balance. For example I had the veal wellington, the meat was tasty and tender, mushroom paste around also taste nice, parsnip mash was sweet and different. However, they all had a rich taste so after the first few bites, it became overwhelming, if there was something more refreshing on the plate, the dish would be on a new level.
It was nice and quiet at the beginning, but with the restaurant became busier, the noise level increased. With a large party group there, it was rather hard to talk towards the end.
Food was delicious, staff very attentive. Will book again very soon. Thank you for a most enjoyable experience.
How nice to finally have restaurant staff that actually want to be at work and provide a good service to their diners! Our team of waiters & waitresses were amazingly attentive and not over keen to push you onto the next courses and demonstrated the utmost professionalism. The food was fabulous and delicious Christmas cocktails to start with followed by a vast choice of wines to accompany each course. We were too full to explore desserts but maybe next time! Thank you so much.
This was my fifth visit to the White Onion, and it’s improved each time. Now the best restaurant in Wimbledon in my view.
Probably one of the best South London restaurants . Understated , excellent courteous service and great food at a very reasonable price . This restaurant is a gem and what I like about it is it is not pretentious. It is not a fussy expensive Michelin restaurant but a value for money local one where you feel welcomed.Hard to beat .
we had a lovely meal, service was very good and the food was excellent
Exceptionally good lunch to celebrate an 80th birthday.
The birthday was acknowledged in a discreet way.
Food and Service very good.
Christmas menu good but not better than the normal fare, The extra cost more than the price of the crackers!
First visit to The White Onion and it was a good one. The cocktails were festive and unique. The food was delicious... the tempura broccoli was an hit with everyone at the table!
Trying to pay our bill was a bit slow and the restaurant was a bit warm but it didn’t ruin the experience.
Had a very disappointing meal with a friend pre-Christmas. The food was OK although I had the duck, which came with a confit duck leg which was inedible it was so tough - I couldn't get my knife through it. The service was friendly but TERRIBLY slow. We sat down at 7.30 and by 9pm still hadn't received our main courses. The table that sat down next to us, sat down later but had finished their mains before ours had even arrived. They comped our coffees and service and made a lot of apologies, but we won't be returning as it was expensive and not that good regardless of the slow service.
Great restaurant, by far the best in the village. New menu is innovative and service is impeccable. Great wine list, I especially like the list they have “off the beaten path”.
Innovative cooking though not nouvelle cuisine. This narrow fronted restaurant in Wimbledon Village stretches back a long way inside. We booked a table in the window to watch passers by but also to insulate ourselves from the noise when the restaurant is full. Sunday lunch of 3 courses costs £32.50. Everything is nicely presented and tasty. I started with rabbit terrine (rather solid) and followed with the vegetable vol-au-vent (a nice mix of winter veg) and finished with the walnut tart. Each was interesting in its own right and not commonly found on restaurant menus. They came round with a tray of miscellaneous breads which I enjoyed. The wine list is extensive. We liked the Chilean chardonnay. The loos are down a steep flight of stairs but modern and clean when you get there
This was our third time eating at The White Onion and it's always a great night. Probably the best restaurant in the Wimbledon area.
Delicious food, charming service.
It was pre Christmas so a bit noisier than I had expected.
