The White Onion Ratings and Reviews
The food is brilliant. We've never had a bad meal there. It's imaginative cooking with great presentation. The service is excellent with knowledgeable staff. We asked about a Romanian Pinot Noir wine and were immediately offered a tasting and advice on an alternative. We chose an excellent Californian Pinot Noir.
Starter was quail, main courses venison rump/ lamb - beautifully cooked and presented. Didn't have a dessert - eaten too much!
It is a lovely relaxing place.
Wimbledon Village is a great place to relax and there are many restaurants to choose from but White Onion caught my eye to take my wife out for a "special meal". We were not disappointed. Great menu to choose from, wonderful cocktails to start off the evening and a great wine list to compliment the meal. I had scallops to start my wife had Crispy Prawns. Both fantastic. I then had Cornish Cod and my wife had Stone Bass. Again equally fantastic. So full we shared a cheese board between us. Do not miss the cheese board!! The atmosphere was people all around enjoying their evening with friends. A great place to go!!
Always amazing food, friendly welcoming staff and an incredible cheeseboard! Great wine to wash it all down with, and options of classy dinner cocktails or good beers are available too. The atmosphere manages to be not too formal while remaining special - no snobbishness here, just foodie-level gastronomy and great service to go with it.
I rarely go out in Wimbledon, but came down to meet a friend for dinner as it was her birthday, I booked the white onion with no prior knowledge but checked out online reviews. I have to say I was so impressed !! its a lovely looking restaurant, quite large but they have managed to make it cosy and candle lit. we started with as cocktail, and they have a great selection of highly inventive options with and without alcohol, beautifully presented. I had mentioned it was a friends birthday and they had typed up a special menu with her name at the top. small details like that make all the difference ! we both agreed that we could happily eat everything on the menu, all sounded delicious, and although the style of cooking I would say is French, the produce is practically all from the UK. lots of game too. we shared a rabbit terrine to start, and then both had the saddle of venison with the beetroot and apple puree and a divine potato mash. we didn't order e a desert, but they bought out a special birthday plate for my friend, which was very thoughtful, they sell wine by the glass, carafe, or bottle, extensive choices. could not fault the whole experience and I wish I had a place like this in my neighbourhood !
We dined here for a Saturday lunch to mark my mother-in-laws birthday and what a treat it was. The food was delicious (the mash was amazing), the service attentive and very friendly. We will definitely be back, the set lunch was also very reasonably priced. Really pleased we found this place and look forward to returning again very soon.
What a great restaurant! We went for my husband's birthday and the whole evening was delightful. Yes, it is quite expensive, but definitely worth it as the food and service was exceptional. I can really recommend the scallops which were superb, but our main courses - lamb and venison - were equally delicious. The service was prompt but not hurried and the staff friendly and welcoming. I left my scarf behind and the team were on the ball enough to call me within 10 minutes of my leaving so that I could return to retrieve it - how on the ball is that?! We will definitely return.
Outstanding food. Love the wine list. Everything is presented beautifully. The fresh breads are delicious. Wonderful service. The restaurant itself is romantically lit - but would suit an easy social with friends too. Tables are reasonably spaced and the service is professional, attentive but not intrusive.
We sat in the window seats watching Wimbledon go by - horses, dogs, even people - as our delicious anniversary lunch slipped down and treated the taste buds. No haste, just a lovely pace of service. I confess that we licked our lips many times. Everything was so delicious, from cucumber gazpacho and oysters tempura through corn fed Normandy chicken and assiette of West Country lamb to a peaches and pistachio crumb dessert. A good choice of wines and delicious coffee lubricated the experience but eventually we reluctantly bid farewell like old friends. We will be back.
So good we returned to sample the rest of the fabulous menu a couple of weeks later. Even the simplest things like the bread and mash potato are delicious. Amazing food, pro service and a great wine list in a sophisticated atmosphere. Priced extremely reasonably given to the quality of the food. Pleased to see the foie gras is gone from the menu.
We have been to the White Onion on a couple of occasions now and have really enjoyed ourselves each time. The (Australian) Wagyu beef was particularly good.
The food is very good and the ambience is very good as well.
The service was super, with a smile and with genuine care for the visitors. A particular thank you because I inadvertently left my wallet behind, only for the waitress to come tearing out of the restaurant after us to return it to me. I had a LOT of explaining to do to my spouse, but it could have been so much worse, so thank you to The White Onion. Not cheap, by any means, but worth going.
A really wonderful surprise. I normally never complete the surveys like this one but this restaurant is truly special. The food was delicious, with lots of options. So much care and love went into the preparation and presentation. A fantastic place and although Wimbledon is miles away from where I live in West London I will definitely visit again and highly recommend this place. Very impressed!
Thank goodness there is a quality restaurant option in the Village that is sustaining competition from the Ivy Cafe. The two have very different and unique offerings.
Fabulous food, great service and management team at the White Onion. Always a great pleasure to be taken care of the folks at the White Onion. Thanks!
This was a dinner birthday celebration after a day at Wimbledon tennis. Starters and main courses were very tasty with lots of flavors and well presented. Service was very welcoming and pleasant throughout, signature cocktails were good and the general ambiance of the restaurant was casual and relaxed. Would definitely return again if in Wimbledon Village. The only small constructive feedback was the wines by the glass selection was a bit limited and uninteresting. Thank you !
