Got a last minute cancellation on a weekend visit to Cheltenham. Really glad we did as it was everything a good restaurant should be. The food was excellent, the service was attentive without being overbearing and the atmosphere was comfortable. House G&T three courses and wine came to £120 for two, which was excellent value given the quality of everything we had. I would definitely recommend.
Exceptional! Friendly and welcoming owner and staff, great ambiance with a creative menu and attention to every little detail. The White Spoon's own gin and tonic is a must. We have dined at lunchtime and in the evening on several occasions and have never been disappointed. Well worth a visit .
Beat roast Iv had in a long time! Service was great!
Excellent food wirh great service,a little gem in the heart of Cheltenham
Fabulous food and wine and great friendly service. Relaxed atmosphere for lunch.
We had a wonderful evening. Service was impeccable. Waitress was superb, knew everything about each dish, ingredients, how it was prepared etc. Great value for money too. Lovely atmosphere. Highly recommended.
If we could give 6 stars, we would.
I have eaten here before and once again the food was really good, if a little unusual, the service was spot on and I couldn't find fault with it, it's a lovely spot and the ambience is modern but still traditional, if that makes sense, the staff are very knowledgeable and the restaurant has a menu with details of allergens they do ask as a mater of course which is very encouraging.
all in all this is a fabulous place and well worth the visit. I will be dining here again without a doubt.
This was my second visit to The White Spoon and once again they delivered an outstanding meal. My first visit was back in August and my son and I went for Sunday lunch. It was excellent. This time I took a friend for lunch. The staff are casual but efficient and knowledgeable about the menu, ingredients and wine list. The food is thoughtfully prepared with fresh ingredients and presented beautifully.
This was a superb find on the internet and the opentable booking service worked seamlessly. We parked close by for £2.50 for 2 hours. The two course Sunday lunch was one of the best I’ve had this year. Visually attractive and delicious! We shared A creme brûlée to finish! We realised later that the chef (Chris White) was ‘chef of the year’ in 2017 (that made perfect sense)!! I loved this place and the friendly polite service made our experience very memorable. Will definitely go back again. Next time with friends and family.
This place was style over substance. The restaurant looked good, the menu sounded great and the staff were brilliant, even the young trainee girl was polite and friendly. The food did have flavour, but wasn't as amazing as we expected for the price. Consomme was greasy and lacked flavour for example. Portions were a bit small too. They had some good ideas for the food but disappointing overall
Our Sunday lunch for four for a special celebration was excellent, with very different starters and deserts but a mix of traditional and contempory main course. Good service, friendly welcome; a great experience. It was even better than when we last visited three years' ago during opening week.
Great friendly service
Fabulous food, Sunday lunch was superb.
Food not expensive but we did spend a lot on wine, but well worth it,
Will definitely visit again
Lovely little restaurant hidden away. Excellent staff and a very good Sunday lunch
3rd visit to White Spoon and another high quality experience. The restaurant is well managed and Chris White is quite simply a magician in the kitchen. Cheltenham is lucky to have him. The tasting menu is a work of art and goodness only knows how all these dishes are prepared. The à la carte offers a choice of 5 starters and mains with something for everybody. The quality of the dishes is exceptional (partridge starter cooked perfectly ‘pink’, tender and delicious. The chicken & coriander tortellini with consommé soup was also a stunning dish with multiple flavours and textures). Plenty of choice on a good reasonably priced wine list. Service is personal, friendly and discrete. Thank you all at White Spoon for a great meal.
Food very good. Service less so. Not helped by an opening comment of “let me see if Chef is still serving food”
Hard to imagine how this could have been better. Huge respect to the team, it’s rare to see such incredible food served with such a personal and casual touch. Proves Michelin stars mean nothing!
Wonderful food, beautifully prepared & presented (and quite quickly, too), by discreet but friendly waiting staff. Music not intrusive and internal decor was very tasteful. Wine choice, although pricey, looked carefully selected & almost all were available by the glass, carafe or bottle. The only fly is its location: by the church which has an open door policy to homeless and/or vulnerable adults which made the view a bit "tricky" ie a number of threatening-looking young people on the green outside & a couple of older people looking very much the worse for the road which could be offputting for some diners.
First visit to the White Spoon, would definitely visit again and would highly recommend to family and friends. Food, service and food was excellent.
Fantastic food at fantastic prices. My partner and I agreed that it was one if the best Sunday lunches that we've ever had.
Second visit this time for Sunday lunch while attending the literary festival. My roast beef was excellent and my wife really enjoyed her octopus .
Very friendly and attentive front of house complements the food.
Our second visit to The White Spoon. Yummy Sunday lunch (incredibly tender roast beef and great roast pork), lovely bottle of Chilean Pinot noir red wine (and not too pricey), great desert (chocolate ganache with popcorn & orange sorbet). Friendly service, happy to swap one part of the desert for one diner & happy to bring extra gravy (& checked if we wanted even more). Friendly, relaxed and delicious food, enjoyed both our trips here and will be back :).
Sensational food at great value - I was blown away by both the creativity of the kitchen and the beautiful delicate flavors they were able to create. The tasting menu was both refined and filling and we were able to enjoy it in a relaxed and comfortable setting. The whole experience felt like a home cooked meal by your favorite auntie (if your auntie happened to specialise in exquisite gastronomic experiences). Highly recommended!
Great menu, food was very well presented & tasted delicious. Staff were attentive. Felt like a Michelin Star wxperience in a nice relaxed setting and great value
We enjoyed every mouthful of the starter and main which came beautifully presented on the plate. I was a little disappointed with my dessert banana Millie Feullie (spelling?). I didn't think that mashed banana worked and would have preferred another fruit. My husband also thought his chocolate dessert was rather bland, not very chocolatey. Don't let that put you off, book a table, it's a great place to eat.
Always have a good experience in this cosy restaurant from white spoon own gin and tonic through a varied menu and a good selection of wines look forward to returning soon
Charming but throughly modern in a lovely setting right in the middle of the city. Food was inventive without being too adventurous. Wine list is excellent, service first rate. We had a late Sunday lunch and truly a great afternoon.
Amazing food and friendly atmosphere would definitely try the taster menu next time
The set menu, although limited, offers lovely food, innovative combinations of flavours and excellent value for money, all in a beautiful setting. We'll definitely go again
This restaurant is fantastic! So good to go to a small restaurant with such a high standard of food and service. We now go at least once a month for a lovely lunch or dinner! Very creative food with a friendly atmosphere.
first time we dined at The White Spoon and the occasion was for my 70th birthday. Welcomed warmly, excellent food and wine and attentive service made the day very special for me.
Food is amazing, aswell as the service. A treat for those special occasions.
Everything was perfect , best Sunday Lunch in Cheltenham
Simply outstanding food, great service, and the best G&T anywhere!
Second time I've been. Fantastic food and friendly service from the waiter.
Bit quiet but it was a Wednesday evening.
Currently my favourite restaurant in Cheltenham. Hidden gem.
Took my mum there for Sunday lunch on her birthday, and wanted something a little bit special. It certainly delivered. The starters were particularly tasty. Fine dining at reasonable prices.
Once again a delicious meal which we both enjoyed very much. The set menu was excellent value and there was a good choice on the 'A La Carte'. We will certainly eat there again.
Food generally pretty good but the bed of linguine that came with the brill was unexpectedly, and inexplicably, strongly flavoured with rosewater, which was not mentioned on the menu. At the very least, dominant flavours like rosewater should be mentioned on the description of the dish. Even fans of rosewater, which I am not, would probably agree that the flavour was too dominant, and that it didn't go at all with the rest of the dish.
The desserts were well made, but the blackberry souffle seemed a bit too wet. It seemed to be a slight miss, being half-way between a souffle and a mousse, but not quite as nice as either of those.
Good music and ambiance.
The waiting staff were excellent.
The portions were a bit small - we skipped the starter, but could easily have fitted one in - which would have pushed the price up further.
Overall the food was a bit overpriced for what it was. We have had more or less faultless, excellent meals at this price elsewhere.
Having enjoyed excellent set lunches here in the past, we tried Sunday Lunch. Service was fine, and main courses (roast pork and beef) were good, but with some reservations (overdone crackling and dry Yorkshire pudding). Also, the desert (@£5 extra) really disappointed - a very basic cherry concoction with dried out cake. We mentioned this to a waitress, but received no response from the kitchen.
Fantastic food and service ....
Delicious soufflé too !
I went to The White Spoon for Sunday roast. I ordered the beef and my girlfriend had pork. They were both cooked exceptionally well and the portions were good too. One of the highlights was the bread which was one of the best I have ever had (the best one being the pumpkin seed bread in a restaurant in Tallin). So good that I am willing to just go back there for only that.
