The menu was very small and when you don’t really like fish out of the 3 options your pretty much screwed.
We went elsewhere and was slapped with a £70 charge.
Would not recommend.
The food was absolutely amazing! I would describe it as a taste sensation, it was perfect!
We had a lovely meal with some very nice touches, staff were very friendly and created a calm and enjoyable atmosphere.
We have already recommended the White Spoon to friends who live in the area
It’s a favourite of my wife and I for special occasions, we will be back! Recommend the tasting menu
Great again, as normal!
Excellent food and very good service. The restaurant was busy, which did slow the arrival of food, but that was no problem, and the waitress was very apologetic.
Not as good as our last visit. Service poor and lacked attention to detail. ( forgot our puddings!) overall very underwhelming!!
The food was cooked to a very high level. The atmosphere and service was excellent. A really lovely restaurant, I recommend a visit.
It was a fantastic meal- we had the tasting menu which was good value. Service was good and not intrusive.
Every aspect of the tasting menu was superb and just the right amount.
Lovely friendly staff. Thank you.
We booked on the off chance as we came from Devon for the weekend, and it was one of the best meals we have experienced. We are real foodies and highly recommend this place for anyone who enjoys clever, tasty food in a warm friendly atmosphere. Amazing.
We have eaten here before and the whole experience was great. Sadly, this time the level food and service seemed to have dropped off significantly. Initially there were a couple of mistakes with our orders. Also three of us had the beef roast and one person's beef was extremely gamey at the point of being inedible and nothing like the others. When I mentioned this (not for a refund, but just so they were aware), the waitress said ' she doesn't know how that would be possible as all the beef being served came from the same piece'. Firstly that response seemed entirely inappropriate and secondly, I find it highly unlikely a whole restaurant is served from one joint of beef. Also, we were with a 12 year old and there were no options for kids. When we asked for any tweaks, the staff were less than helpful. Finally, some of the vegetables were undercooked. On the whole, the place seemed to lack a bit of care.
Read the menu for the White Spoon and you will realise that the food is quirky. But go with it. The flavour combinations always seem to work, the sign of a chef who knows what they are about. The decor is simple, the service friendly and attentive without being obtrusive. The drinks menu covers all the bases and is not overpriced. All in all not the cheapest place to eat, but worth every penny for the experience.
Highly recommend, will be returning soon
Starter was amazing but main was too salty. Pud was delicious. Good selection of wines
Delicious food well cooked and friendly, efficient service.
Ordered the set lunch , parts of the starter were just about cooked and not hot . The waitress who we mentioned this to gave us the impression that we were looking not to pay for our starters which we were not ! The service overall was disinterested , food nice and the atmosphere non existent. When the bill arrived it was too difficult to fathom , yes we didn’t pay for the starters paid full price for the main course and were overcharged for the wine . We couldn’t be bothered to argue paid and left .
Excellent food .. think they’re trying a bit too hard with the service - over eager so could feel pressured at times. Bit lacking in atmosphere but deserves a try.
Tricky to find and parking is always difficult in Cheltenham, but perseverance will be rewarded by a well presented and tasty plate of food, served by a friendly team led by Ms Spooner while Mr White slaves away in the kitchen. Owner run businesses are always a better bet than the big multi branch chains and if there's ever a problem - speak directly with the owner.
Absolutely delicious Sunday lunch
Perfect beef lovely Xmas vegetables and crispy potatoes
Their own gin is delicious the Xmas pudding desert amazing
Will be back
The White Soon in Cheltenham is a hidden gem. The welcome, service and food were all of a very high standard. There was obviously a lot of love in the cooking and they take their jobs very seriously.
I hope we will be able to go back soon and would recommend it to anyone.
Got a last minute cancellation on a weekend visit to Cheltenham. Really glad we did as it was everything a good restaurant should be. The food was excellent, the service was attentive without being overbearing and the atmosphere was comfortable. House G&T three courses and wine came to £120 for two, which was excellent value given the quality of everything we had. I would definitely recommend.
Exceptional! Friendly and welcoming owner and staff, great ambiance with a creative menu and attention to every little detail. The White Spoon's own gin and tonic is a must. We have dined at lunchtime and in the evening on several occasions and have never been disappointed. Well worth a visit .
Beat roast Iv had in a long time! Service was great!
Excellent food wirh great service,a little gem in the heart of Cheltenham
Fabulous food and wine and great friendly service. Relaxed atmosphere for lunch.
We had a wonderful evening. Service was impeccable. Waitress was superb, knew everything about each dish, ingredients, how it was prepared etc. Great value for money too. Lovely atmosphere. Highly recommended.
If we could give 6 stars, we would.
I have eaten here before and once again the food was really good, if a little unusual, the service was spot on and I couldn't find fault with it, it's a lovely spot and the ambience is modern but still traditional, if that makes sense, the staff are very knowledgeable and the restaurant has a menu with details of allergens they do ask as a mater of course which is very encouraging.
all in all this is a fabulous place and well worth the visit. I will be dining here again without a doubt.
This was my second visit to The White Spoon and once again they delivered an outstanding meal. My first visit was back in August and my son and I went for Sunday lunch. It was excellent. This time I took a friend for lunch. The staff are casual but efficient and knowledgeable about the menu, ingredients and wine list. The food is thoughtfully prepared with fresh ingredients and presented beautifully.
This was a superb find on the internet and the opentable booking service worked seamlessly. We parked close by for £2.50 for 2 hours. The two course Sunday lunch was one of the best I’ve had this year. Visually attractive and delicious! We shared A creme brûlée to finish! We realised later that the chef (Chris White) was ‘chef of the year’ in 2017 (that made perfect sense)!! I loved this place and the friendly polite service made our experience very memorable. Will definitely go back again. Next time with friends and family.
This place was style over substance. The restaurant looked good, the menu sounded great and the staff were brilliant, even the young trainee girl was polite and friendly. The food did have flavour, but wasn't as amazing as we expected for the price. Consomme was greasy and lacked flavour for example. Portions were a bit small too. They had some good ideas for the food but disappointing overall
Our Sunday lunch for four for a special celebration was excellent, with very different starters and deserts but a mix of traditional and contempory main course. Good service, friendly welcome; a great experience. It was even better than when we last visited three years' ago during opening week.
Great friendly service
Fabulous food, Sunday lunch was superb.
Food not expensive but we did spend a lot on wine, but well worth it,
Will definitely visit again
Lovely little restaurant hidden away. Excellent staff and a very good Sunday lunch
3rd visit to White Spoon and another high quality experience. The restaurant is well managed and Chris White is quite simply a magician in the kitchen. Cheltenham is lucky to have him. The tasting menu is a work of art and goodness only knows how all these dishes are prepared. The à la carte offers a choice of 5 starters and mains with something for everybody. The quality of the dishes is exceptional (partridge starter cooked perfectly ‘pink’, tender and delicious. The chicken & coriander tortellini with consommé soup was also a stunning dish with multiple flavours and textures). Plenty of choice on a good reasonably priced wine list. Service is personal, friendly and discrete. Thank you all at White Spoon for a great meal.
Food very good. Service less so. Not helped by an opening comment of “let me see if Chef is still serving food”
Hard to imagine how this could have been better. Huge respect to the team, it’s rare to see such incredible food served with such a personal and casual touch. Proves Michelin stars mean nothing!
Wonderful food, beautifully prepared & presented (and quite quickly, too), by discreet but friendly waiting staff. Music not intrusive and internal decor was very tasteful. Wine choice, although pricey, looked carefully selected & almost all were available by the glass, carafe or bottle. The only fly is its location: by the church which has an open door policy to homeless and/or vulnerable adults which made the view a bit "tricky" ie a number of threatening-looking young people on the green outside & a couple of older people looking very much the worse for the road which could be offputting for some diners.
First visit to the White Spoon, would definitely visit again and would highly recommend to family and friends. Food, service and food was excellent.
Fantastic food at fantastic prices. My partner and I agreed that it was one if the best Sunday lunches that we've ever had.
