Great pub downstairs and lovely restaurant upstairs. Excellent "pub grub" - ask about their offers, they don't assume that you know about them!
Food is ok.
Acoustics are bad so not easy to hear everyone.
Service was poor - kitchen understaffed apparently.
As ever a really lovely meal, clearly freshly cooked and served with lots of smiles.
Worth booking as it is always full, whcih is a great sign!
Booked this place as wanted somewhere local to work and where my friend and I could have a darn good catch up. Service and food were excellent.
A great meal. Met a friend for lunch. Terrine, Short rib steak (extremely good/recommended). Very reasonable french red. Pint downstairs.
Good lunch as ever and post lunch drinks in the bar. Service always good too.
The White Swan is on the top floor of a building about 100 metres off Fleet Street. We have been before, though not for a couple of years. The restaurant has an old world feel about it, with lots of wood. Service at lunch today was attentive and pleasant. The food is traditional with me having breaded scampi, and toad in the hole, and my friend chicken livers on toast and then fishcakes. All very filling and I could not finish mine. A smooth syrah deakin red wine. We will go again but with a larger appetite or fewer courses!
Very much enjoyed our lunch at The White Swan. We all had fish & chips (it was Friday after all!) and the portions were huge! The chips were nice and chunky and the fish was cooked to perfection and the batter was not greasy! Very good wine list. The White Swan has a very traditional feel about it and it's décor is very on trend. I would highly recommend this three-storey pub and would say this is a good place for visiting tourists as it's a far cry from those runoff the mill other pubs.
Gave the place another chance because although the service was very slow last time the food was ok.
This time the service was no better (still very inattentive) and the food was very poor. Not so much a lamb chop as a lamb bone, would have been better using it for stock rather than serving as a main.
Not planning on going back.
Second visit and poor service on both occasions.
Food has been good both times and it would be a great spot for a business lunch if the service was better (or perhaps just had more staff on to cover the shift)
My lamb was raw on one side and burned on the other.
Appallingly slow service and staff couldn't even be bothered to apologise when we complained. Took nearly 2 hours for a one course lunch, and then they reported us to OpenTable as a no show! We won't be back.
Ein sehr empfehlenswertes Restaurant für gehobenes Essen.
We’ve been going for a number of years. Easy place to catch up
The second floor dining room is a great venue for meeting friends. Manageable noise level, relaxed but efficient service and impressive surroundings. Excellent food too. We all enjoyed the fish soup, a variety of fish and meat mains, and the steamed golden syrup pudding .
Very good service and food, quiet and efficient. Clean and nice on the 2nd floor.
Had a lovely meal. Mackerel starters were huge but very tasty. Liver & Bacon was very nice too. A colleague had fish & chips which was a good size. Only slight criticism is that it got very busy, and there was a long gap between starter and main course (30 minutes plus) when we were actually in a hurry and that took the edge off the experience.
London Pass dining guide 50% was not honoured. Disappointment!
Was a perfect spot for a business lunch. Would’ve been nice if there had been a mains option more befitting the hot weather outside but otherwise very good food and service.
Very slow service, the waitress was rushed off her feet. There seemed to be others floating around but nobody helping her. Starters were good, but the fish cake was like a cheap supermarket version - thin and very greasy. I’d been recently with a large group for dinner and it was good, so this was disappointing. Won’t return.
Sadly, the White Swan seems to have gone off. As a local to Fetter Lane easy lunch dining for business occasions, the food was disappointingly uniform in choice and planned in presentation. It used to have a very interesting menu and a reputation for good quality dining. I don't know whether it's under new ownership or management, but it has gone profoundly downhill since my last visit a few months ago
Good food & friendly, speedy service. Great experience.
The food was delicious, especially the road in the hole, best I ever had in fact. The ambience was good, however there was no music, but the noise from the bar downstairs was completely inaudible which was nice. The room is has a nice oldy look. The waitresses were nice, but a little oblivious. They took a while to come over and we had to bend over and look at them when we wanted to order food etc, especially when there was only one other table in the room. Overall though the food was so good I'd recommend it to anyone, the waitresses may have been a little oblivious because it was so quiet so weren't kept on their feet.
Excellent main courses, both meat and fish, slightly let down by very dense chocolate "mousse" after. Wait for food only just the right side of long and service inattentive at first, but overall a pretty good experience. Good coffee. Tiny water glasses. Have been before and will enjoy returning from time to time.
What has happened to this place? I always used to come here for quite a special meal for business contacts and the food was very very good - verging on fine dining. I went this week and the menu has completely changed and it is now nothing more than decent pub food. I was quite shocked. The food was decent but really not special at all.
I was disappointed with the White Swan compared to a previous visit I made. The food was lacking in flavour and was not sophiscated as I had previously. The food lacked flavour ie the fish stew I had and the brisket was extremely tough.
Very good value when using 50%.. service was fantastic. I was suprised the room was quite enpty
Five of us went on a Friday evening to try out their new menu. Very busy in the pub downstairs but the restaurant was an oasis of quiet. All starters and mains were delicious with the dirty salt beef sandwich notable. 50% off of the food bill promotion was a steal. Would highly recommend.
An excellent place for a business lunch. Authentic food and non pretentious service.
Fantastic night out, the staff were very helpful and friendly all evening. Food was very good with an interesting menu of British seasonal food.
Fantastic experience. The service and the food were absolutely to die for.
We will be back.
Visited for the soft opening relaunch of dining facelities. Varied menu with some nice individual twists. With 50% off excellent value. Attentive, personable and professional staff.
Lovely- very atmospheric and cozy for autumn/ winter meals! Menu is good hearty food- loved the black pudding croquettes! will be back
The newly refurbished White Swan, with its revamped menu, featuring really good-quality ingredients, cooked superbly, is a treasure in the Chancery Lane/Fetter Lane legal area. It is a great place to eat and talk business, with a very good wine list. Service is exceptional, with special mention to Matteo, who catered for our every need.
Lunch meeting with a client. The food was good, red mullet followed by steak. Slightly more expensive than expected, but much enjoyed.
Food good, service slow, little atmosphere. There were few people in the restaurant yet the service was so slow that we nearly left.
Decent food. Nice atmosphere. Not wildly exciting
Restaurant upstairs is a nice space away from the bar. Food quality was good with reasonable choice. Servers were very attentive and happy to help.
The restaurant was not busy and the noise levels were good to hold a business meeting.
The food is good on a classic menu. Given the position, it's useful for business meals in the Holborn / Fleet Street area. Although the dining room is a bit noisy when it gets crowded.
I've been to the White Swan before and really enjoyed it because of the quality of the food and the 50% discount. While that discount is going on I'll return over and over again, I'm sure!
