The Windmill Hollingbourne
We are constantly adding new dishes created from the best in-season ingredients we can get our hands on. In general, our food is classically British in style but what we believe makes us stand out is the attention to detail and delicacy with which our kitchen approaches cooking.
Our wine menu is varied, with selections from the old world, new world and even some Kentish vineyards. Don’t be afraid to ask for a recommendation to suit your meal.
We are also well known for our BBQ and terrace area, which is open all summer. Come along and you can see your meal grilled or smoked in front of your eyes, with the mouth-watering smells getting your stomach rumbling.
excellent as normal. the express lunch is superb value and does not compromise on quality. would highly recommend.
The food was up to a very good standard; however from the moment we arrived it was a waiting game. My friend even had to get the menus from the front desk herself as there were no staff to be seen. After waiting a while to order starters, the food came quickly and was delicious but we felt we had to order desserts as our mains were on the table for fear that we would not get served again. FAB food, slow service apart from one waitress who seemed very helpful.
Lovely meal and nice atmosphere. Fresh food in a lovely restaurant. The staff are friendly and helpful.
Great food, great service, great value. Hollingbourne’s best restaurant and bar.
The food and service are of the highest quality. Definitely worth visiting.
We had the Sunday roasts, so tasty and generous portions, we cleared our plates! Everything was fantastic and would definitely eat there again.
Would definitely (& have already) recommended - nice place, good food & pleasant staff.
Wonderful BBQ. Sat outside. Musician was playing he was great but of course quite loud so I couldn't hear conversation well. Staff extremely accommodating. Think this will be my new local pub! I love it! Great children's play area so my son was entertained too!
Fantastic quality in a relaxed village pub. A really great menu and wine list!
Really lovely food, venue and attentive waitress would definitely recommend.
Lovely food and venue. Perfect start to our holiday!
Friendly welcome, amazing food, quick service. Will return.
We have dined at The Windmill a number of times but unfortunately our experience on Sunday wasn't up to their usual standard.
We arrived early to have a drink at the bar, which was full of dirty glasses, not a great start. We were taken to our table and then left there, no offer of a drink or menu so after 15 minutes of listening to a screaming child and loud drunk women we asked for menus... We then asked to order starters... Then had to ask to order our mains. Not the service standard we usually receive at The Windmill. As soon as we finished we paid at the bar and left. To sum it up, awful atmosphere, shocking service but fabulous food!
We arrived an hour early to have a couple of drinks 1st. The bar was covered in dirty glasses. 1 person serving and it took 15 minutes to get a drink!
So loud you couldn’t hear yourself think!
When we decided to sit at our table it had been given to other people trying to get away from the noise! Slow service on drinks throughout the meal. Food was ok 7 out of 10. Don’t intend to go back.
Starters took 40 mins to arrive, steak arrived over cooked and was not very nice at all.
Service was very slack (Manager was serving restaurant), had to go to bar to get a drink, didn’t receive a check back or asked how meal was. Not very professional at all or apologetic.
Lovely atmosphere with amazing food and beautiful wine. Definitely would recommend.
Disappointing food this time - has been great before and I am worried going down hill. Door to toilet hanging off. I booked as a vegan and no effort put in to menu.
Great cosy pub with high quality food and friendly efficient service. Lovely garden and gin selection too.
Have recommended The Windmill to many of my friends. I came here for lunch and sat in the garden - hence had the BBQ menu. Was really really lovely and attention to detail was spot on. Will be back for some live music soon
Still one of my favourite places to eat. Staff are attentive but not overboard. Quaint setting and the food is delicious.
We had a fantastic time with our family and the staff were very friendly and accommodating to our needs
Definitely go again x
Superb as ever. Rob you’ll be missed.
Lovely place with great food and service.
Tried this place out this week after finding it online. Quite a disappointment overall. Service was quite friendly although a little slow. This place has very little ambience. First impressions is that it is rough around the edges and could urgently do with a few coats of paint here and there to make it a lot more presentable.
On the plus side the food was really good but will not be going back
Easy booking everything as expected excellent!
First visit will be returning.
Atmosphere lovely, not too noisy. Food was delicious.
BBQ area looked comfortable. Good to see an outdoor bar, if you are dining outside it saves popping into the actual restaurant for a refill.
Nice play area for the little ones.
Great to see Pierepaulo, new Manager, from Pearsons Arms. Their loss is most definitely the Windmills gain.
Am definitely looking forward to returning with friends in the next few weeks.
Been here a few times now, and will be back for sure. The menu has something for everyone, the presentation and quality of the food is far higher than many dedicated restaurants never mind pubs, the building is charming and the staff welcoming, also a beautiful garden and BBQ.
A pretty village to explore too.
The Windmill is a very nice pub, they have a lovely garden to enjoy a drink before going into the very tastefully decorated pub. The food is very tasty and well presented, the staff friendly and efficient.
You cannot fault the food here. It really is fantastic. However part of the restaurant experience is the atmosphere and the service and this is where the restaurant lets itself down a bit. Service is slow- the restaurant was about 3 quarters full when we arrived. We waited far too long for drinks. We ate our food and it was delicious but no one asked if we wanted more drinks, checked that our food was ok, or brought over the extra sauces we had asked for. We asked for the bill after not being asked if we wanted dessert or coffee! It was like they just wanted to get rid of people and go home. Perhaps they aren’t bothered about customer service but it would definitely stop me going there again in a hurry!
Nice beer garden to the rear for the whole family, dogs welcomed.
Interesting menu and excellent food. Portion size was about right.
We have been to The Windmill on my girlfriend’s birthday for the last 3 years. The first two occasions, I could not fault it at all, hence why we come back each year. Previous two years it has been warm enough to sit in the garden, but this year we were inside. The whole service was very rushed. We ordered a couple of drinks to have prior to our meal, our order was taken and the food arrived extremely quickly (I understand that you cater for those on lunch break at work, but we were in no hurry). My girlfriend had the pork belly which was absolutely sublime. I had fish and chips which was disappointing. Very small, flat piece of fish and a lot more batter than fish. We were then rushed to choose a desert and had to ask for a break from our main.
Deserts were great, I had the creme brulee which was delicious.
At no point was a hospitality check completed for our meal, either during or after. I probably wouldn’t have said anything anyway as I’m not confident about complaining in those situations!
It’s a lovely pub restaurant and we will definitely return, but thought it only right that I fed back the disappointing aspects of Wednesday’s lunch.
Was very disappointed, the staff were pleasant but over worked the food was either under cooked (raw tempura carrots) or overcooked, service was abysmal. Starter's hadn't been cleared away as main course arrived so was taken back only to be returned luke warm sea bass was then over cooked. Waited 35 minutes for drinks to arrive. Removed service charge and cost of one dessert but would of rather a decent meal as it was a birthday occasion. Have never left a review before but feel so strongly about this. Lovely premises but certainly not as good as the last time I visited.
Awful food and service , sorry but not the right choice for Father’s Day
Had very slow service here didnt even get the last drink I ordered before dessert. Just left it in the end. Were seated directly in front of a singer and so couldn't hear other diners at the table.
We attended to enjoy a nice Sunday Roast at the Windmill, to arrive to be informed there was a 3 course set menu, and no other option.
We had received no prior notification that this would be in place, as when looking through the booking confirmation email the menu provided was a standard Sunday menu.
No notice was placed on the website or the email confirmation emails.
They had also removed the kid menu along with the offer of free meals for Kids under 7.
We were looking forward to a nice simple Sunday roast with a free meal for our 3 year old, as she never really eats much, and thought that was a nice touch, only to find the only option was a £40pp menu which had 4 dishes on each course, and the choice of soup for a vegetarian offer.
Had we been provided notice in advance we could have checked the menu and made an informed decision in advance, instead a nice Sunday afternoon was ruined.
we love our Thursday fish and chips - and normally a lovely dessert to follow
Disappointed there was no access to the garden or children’s play area due to an outside function, main reason we booked to keep the children entertained. Other than that it was good.
Ordered roast dinners ok didn’t have much veg 4 green beans 2 carrots and a smear of !I think sweet potatoe ? Needed a bit more gravy, for £17:50 expected a bit more veg was slightly overdone aswell , chocolate mousse was disappointing served in a small glass with not much thought , but scotch egg starter was nice , wallpaper was grubby and ripped and had oil stains on it , staff seemed unenthusiastic 😑 and slightly bothered if you had a problem asked wether white chocolate ice cream was white chocolate as it tasted just like vanilla took it away out of sight and bought it back slightly more melted and said yes it is ? Excepted more from the prices think they have a captured audience from Leeds castle and have let things slip
Very polite staff, helpful and courteous. Catered for my special diet request. Food extremely good
