The Wine Bar
The wine list, created by sommelier and owner
Melissa Evans, is a representation of grape varietals, which excel in each wine producing region. The wine list changes frequently and showcases many esoteric and family-owned wineries.
Our menu is a selection of small plates, entrees,
fine cheeses and home-made desserts. We use only the freshest, highest quality ingredients including organic and free-range meats. It is our hope that you choose several items and enjoy the experience of different flavors while sipping one wine or several “tastes” of wines.
Slow service, beef Wellington came out with pastry raw. Waiter disappeared by end of meal.
Although I have been to the Wine Bar often, this particular visit was horrible. This was the evening of the Victorian Walk. The Wine Bar was crowded (as you would expect on this evening) however once we were seated it took over and hour to get our food. The Wine Bar was out of most menu items. Our waitress was certainly over worked. However, although we were incredibly patient due to the circumstances, she was very abrupt. After the over hour long wait to get our food we got the bill and never saw our waitress again. I ended up paying at the bar after another 45 minute wait for our waitress to come back to the table. Disappointing to say the least.
Outstanding wine selection and outstanding chef!
Fabulous anniversary dinner!
We love Terry. She is so knowable and professional. New chef is fabulous. Ambiance is terrific.
The past five years, when visiting Saratoga Springs, The Wine Bar has been the restaurant of choice. The cuisine and service have always been outstanding. However, on this visit, I ordered scallops with a warm olive appetizer. The olives were delicious. The scallops were very disappointing. You get four scallops for $32.00. The quality was OK but I have had as good or better at cheaper chain brand restaurants. Terry, the waiter, will talk the talk but does not walk the walk. She has a difficulty timing the delivery of the ordered items in a timely manner. An example, ordered desert and cappucccino, I knew the desert would take about 10 minutes to prepare. The desert was delivered to the table and was told the cappuccino was on the way. I finished the desert and still no cappucccino. When the desert dishes were being cleared, told the cappuccion was being prepped, 30 minutes passed since being ordered. I'll be looking for other restaurant options on future visits.
We enjoyed our meal...delish. Our serve, Terri was top notch. We recommend The Wine Bar for a great meal.
Really nice dinner.. had a great server named Terry.
Love that u can get half portions
The Wine Bar has been a favorite but this past time it did not live up to our expectations. We ordered a cheese plate with specific directions to have the nuts on the side because of an allergy. After waiting an hour and a half for our cheese plate and ordering two bottles of wine, it came out covered in nuts. Our waiter put in a new order for a cheese plate but during that time they ran out of dough for pizza and mashed potatoes for the side to our main course. We ate the cheese plate and left! The waiter was apologetic but we left hungry and annoyed!
Wine bar that didn’t have the wine I ordered. Took over an hour to get a cheese plate. Warm olives were cold by the time they arrived. Same slow food service received by the other 4 tables. Waiter said it was because someone in kitchen didn’t show up. Thanks for making your problem, my problem.
The food, when it finally arrived after over an hour, was quite good. But restaurant kitchens need to be able to keep up with demand. They made little effort to keep us informed. Disappointing experience.
We went to the Wine bar and truly enjoyed our meal. We tried the beet salad and it was excellent! The main course was also delicious. A nice restaurant with excellent service
Post race early dinner and first time here. Very knowledgeable waitress who knew her wine! Great selection. Ordered a selection of Happy Hour snacks including warm olives, nuts, lobster roll, pizza. All delicious but a bit slow to arrive. Got some salads, a chicken dish and caprese. Oh, and more wine. We were not rushed. The atmosphere is great. Will go again.
Our party of 6 dined here after the Travers: 7:30 reservation. We were seated downstairs... initially only active table, which was worrisome. Downstairs did fill up within the hour. Pianist was excellent. Very limited menu: we stayed clear of the scallops after previous reviews. No bread for the table: just over salted garlic crackers(odd). All had various salads to start, which were fine. Gazpacho was quite good. 4 of us had pizza, 2 had the filet. No complaints on pizzas and filet. Very tasty!! We are NYC area, and found entree and dessert prices steep. Nice wine selection, as expected.
We chose The Wine Bar for our special dinner in Downtown Saratoga Springs and were blown away by the quality of our meal and the service. The rack of lamb was cooked to perfection and was the best I've ever had; my wife's beef tenderloin was equally good, perfect in fact. We each had a spinach salad to start and it, too, was outstanding. Our table by the large window overlooking bustling Downtown Saratoga was offered as we had requested and it was wonderful. The lighting, decor and ambience were ideal, and the noise level was not overwhelming, a comment I've seen elsewhere. Our server, Terri, was a pro. We don't make such comments lightly; I consider myself a gourmet home cook and an astute, fair food critic. I have made a mean rack of lamb at home multiple times and mine does not compare. The Wine Bar was just top notch.
Excellent food year after year. Service can be "inexperienced". Saratoga is a summer town and some of the staff are clearly there as a summer job. The wine list is accessible, varied and reasonable in price. However, it is not always up to date as to availability then it is worse. Every surface in the very nice room is hard and flat. Owner needs to invest in some curtains, rugs and acoustical tile. This restaurant is the best bet and value in Saratoga during racing season.
In town meeting friends for the race meet
Great food, drinks and ambiance. The only issue we had was the smell of cigars. It would be much better if there was a door on that room. It ruins the overall experience.
Very busy during track season. Be prepared to wait for food...which is absolutely worth the wait. Great place!
Music was a little loud. And not quite dinner music more of strong techno beat. Had that been different the ambience would be much better. Seemed like the place wanted a young crowd even though everyone was 40+ years old
Always a great meal and experience!! We recommend the scallops and the lamb chops!
Great food and service. I would highly recommend The Wine Bar!
Very nice restaurant downtown near everything. The owner happened to be there the evening we dined and he could not have been more gracious.
Dinner after a day at Saratoga Race Course. A busy time of year for restaurants in town. The wine list was nice as expected. The tables close but not ridiculously so. The bar was busy, but not too noisy. The cigar bar was also busy, and a TV there for watching a game.
The beet and watermelon salad was delicious. My husband liked his chicken dish. The scallops were very disappointing. $32 for the “large” 4 salty scallops, 1 small split carrot, a drizzle of cauliflower, and some micro greens. Left hungry, and headed for an ice cream cone across the street.
We arrived to a very nice atmosphere and were enjoying a great meal until a huge group walked into the bar area that was extremely loud. Nobody asked them to please quiet down, and before long we and the other tables asked for our bills and left. The couple next to us summed it up... “this is a wine bar, not a beer hall.” It was so loud you could not talk the person you were seated with. I’m all for having a good time, but to many others we’re annoyed. On a positive note I like their offering of half portions, and the food was well prepared. Too bad I couldn’t talk to the person next to me.
Food & service was excellent! Made the evening very special. Will go back!
Nice location. Greater was polite and was seated as soon as we arrived. Seating was a little tight. Drinks were good. Food was good but the large portion choice seemed like a small. Large wine list. Would go back again.
Every dish was delicious! The pizza was fantastic, the lamb cooked perfectly, the spinach salad was delicious. Our server was adorable love the ambiance of the whole place. Love the big window overlooking Broadway. Just a perfect Saratoga place any time of year.
Great place for drinks, especially wine, nice list of by the glass offerings. Smoking room for those who wish to light up. Forget the food, not up to par.
We sat for a number of minutes (>10) before being asked for our order. But, I must say Sadie saved the evening and it turned out quite nicely. Thank you Sadie.
Brought some friends from out of town since we had been there a few times and always enjoyed it. Since there were six of us we were seated downstairs. For the first 20 minutes or so we were the only people there. Only one other group of 6 or 7 people came later on. The wait staff was constantly walking by, it was a bit annoying. Being alone downstairs was a bit depressing, no atmosphere or just the camaraderie of being with others who were enjoying the evening out.
I'm happy to say that everyone enjoyed their appetizers and entrees. Excellent food.
Lamb and scallops entrees were prepared beautifully. I do love this restaurant for their smaller entree choices, half bottles of delicious wines, and friendly attentive service. One suggestion: our French press coffee was weak - we were anticipating a strong after dinner coffee. A pleasant young man brought us a second carafe - sadly even that replacement was weak for French press. HOWEVER, this restaurant is a wonderful place to dine!
Great atmosphere, great wine, okay food. I had the mud house Sauvignon Blanc and it was delicious. Two of us had the salmon, and it was cooked well, but tasteless, especially served with plain white rice. Another friend ordered the lamb lollipops and they were a bit salty, but still pretty decent. The pizza was great.
Would consider going back.
Tried out the Wine Bar last Friday night. Great location with nice decor, right on Broadway. My husband had a Cabernet and I had a LaCrema Chardonnay, which were both very good. We shared a tasty spinach salad and should have shared the ribeye steak special that each of us ordered. The steak was cooked exactly as ordered (medium rare) and had amazing flavor. The accompanying green beans and mashed potatoes were good complements to the steak, but the steak was the shining star (as it should be). I tried a different cabernet to go with dinner that was better than hubby's (not that I can remember either one unless I looked it up on the menu). We ended up taking 1/2 a steak home each, and had room to finish with dessert; an affogato that was excellent. Service was pleasant, meal timing was good. I read some good and not-so-good reviews about this place, but it's very much worth a try!
The food and service were excellent. We had the small portion of lamb chops. Cooked perfectly! Will return again
The food was great when it finally came. Our reservation was for 7:15pm but we never received our food until 9:30pm. Honestly by then we just wanted to leave! Luckily the food was good.
Delicious food, but the kitchen was very slow.
Our first time there. Service was great, good was fantastic! Our only complaint was there was a ceiling air vent that was a little cool. Would like to sit next to the fireplace next time. Can’t wait to go back!
Food was very good. My companions appreciated the small plate options. It was long wait for our food to arrive though. Since one of our party had hearing loss the low noise level was appreciated.
Had an excellent valentines day experience at the Wine Bar. Food was excellent, waitress let us sample some different blends and my girlfriend was handed a rose as a parting gift. Will recommend to family and friends. Thank you
