The $79 fixed price is too expensive for one appetizer, one entree, and one dessert. The dessert (peach cobbler) was not good. The salmon was fine, but nothing special. The cauliflower appetizer was good. Excellent service. Nice ambiance.
My wife and I went on a Monday night and it was not at all crowded. The staff was very pleasant and went out of there way to please. I ordered the short ribs and they were excellent. My wife's steak was also quite tasty. I am familiar with quite a number of Herzog wines but unfortunately we did not find a new wine during the tastings that thrilled us. Oh well. All said it was a very filling and pleasant evening.
Not friendly nor accommodating. Food was good but not enough options n definitely not child friendly restaurant
overpriced with price fixed menu..charging same for chicken leg as Beef ribs or steak
As always Tierra sur doesn’t fail to impress. Thank you for maintaining your service and bringing a sense of real luxury to the kosher restaurant industry.
We loved the wine, most of the food was good, but not amazing. We did get our food changed when we didnt love it and they were very gracious about it. Service was friendly, wine staff great, wait staff was ok, but for the money I would say not somewhere I would go back.
The food and ambience are incredible. The best restaurant in Ventura county. For first course the chorizo tortilla was incredible as was the stuffed chicken leg for entree. The peach cobler was the best I ever had! The wines are from their own cellar which makes it extra special. The service is top notch and we can't wait to return!
Amazing experience. We will certainly return soon!
although was an issue with a certain dish, they didnt charge me
We love Tierra Sur!
They do everything well: food, service & ambiance. We love coming here and we come back as often as we can!
However, the deserts this time were so-so. Wish there was a chocolate chip skillet cookie, or chocolate lava cake option.
Loved the wine pairings with the pre-fix menu. The staff was very tolerant of our children, which was much appreciated.
One thing to note: a staff member who gave us water refills touched the pitcher to our used water glasses and we had to request new glasses of water. Not a good idea to share guests’ germs during a pandemic.
Tierra Sur was one of the best dining experiences we have ever had!! We would recommend this restaurant to all our friends in South Florida traveling to the LA area.
Excellent meal celebrating my girlfriends birthday! Your manager, Andre, was a very attentive host making our meal an extra special event.
Simply fantastic food and great service. great wine selection, too.
Still worthy of being called the best kosher restaurant in the US. Really unique and diverse menu, and the smoked lamb loin special was a first.
Great food and service! The Torta, Veal Chop and tomato salad were stars!!!
We'll just keep going back, great food, always something new on the menu. Love it!
Good food, good time, nice environment for a romantic date.
This has been our favorite kosher restaurant for years, with truly outstanding food. We took our daughter here recently for lunch to celebrate her high school graduation, and I have to say that this time around we were a bit disappointed. Although what we ordered was generally very good (the smoked ribeye sandwich was wonderful), the choices were slim. The menu has been shrunk significantly down to a small piece of paper (fyi we had a regular sit down lunch, not the wine tasting). And the obvious other changes seemingly to save money were disappointing. Some of our favorite touches like the fresh baked bread with a dipping bowl of olive oil with rosemary and garlic--is now extra charge. Despite there being lots of empty tables, the waiter was hard to be found except when taking the order and serving the food. (Though the female busperson did come around a lot---with a unrelenting grimace that didnt do much to contribute to the dining ambiance!) Dessert is overpriced, as is a tiny cup of coffee for $5, but at least they used to come around and offer you a refill. This time however, I had to ask for a refill in order to have a bit of coffee with my dessert, and literally waited 10 minutes while staring at my dessert and empty cup. (This is what you get when a restaurant adds an automatic 20% gratuity to your bill....less incentive by the staff to provide good service). Sorry to complain, but for a lunch that came out to over $60 a person (after tax and tip), you expect a bit extra. We used to be able to rely on Tierra Sur to provide that bit extra for an extra special dining experience. We will continue to come for special occasions. Hopefully this is just post-covid growing pains, and they will get back to that level.
What is the reason we drive 2 hours to dine here? The most enjoyable, exquisite tasting and elegant gourmet dinner! The intense and memorable taste of every dish, classy presentation, and detail oriented service were superb, very friendly staff.
NEGATIVES: warning of limited dinner time duration is inappropriate, music from loudspeakers in outside seating area was too loud, selection of courses was limited in number, Sunday buffet is not served there anymore, prices are much higher than before COVID-19.
I would recommend it as the best dinner place in Southern CA.
We enjoyed our food immensely. The atmosphere was wonderful. It is the only Kosher Restaurant in West Ventura County
My daughter ordered a Hamberger well done and it came more rare than she would eat. Didn’t try to send back because of timing. She didn’t eat her Hamberger.
We had a table inside and because of the hollowness of the space the rial ambiance was lacking. This might be quite different on the terrace, but we did not get to find out.
That being said, the food, especially the stake was outstanding. This was hands down the stake I have had in the last 20 years (as compared multiple top New York establishments). The rare was done to perfection, and the meat was exquisite.
We were short on time so didn’t get to delve into the wine list and the desserts, but the cocktails that were ordered were also outstanding.
Highly recommended overall.
The food was exceptional, the staff were attentive and the wine, what can I say, was superb!
Had the salmon, which literally melted in my mouth. Wait staff was on top of it and so wonderful.
we were a party of 3 my wife has serious dementia and is in a wheelchair and won't remember the dinner,my daughter had never been to Tierra Sur at Herzog Wine cellars before so I thought the experience would be good for her.I found the service fair, the diner pricing almost impossible to understand and the food way overpriced. We keep Kosher and there are no other choices of places to eat in the Oxnard/ Ventura area.End of story.I'm retired on a fixed income and would only recommend it as a one time experience unless you're rich.
Outstanding food and service! Highly recommend.
Food was awesome, really great food,
Service wasnt the best (we had to wait long time for the server to come or get eye contact every time we needed her), its pricy but its worth it!!
Overall we had a good experience!
Simply amazing! From the food to the wine, you can't go wrong.
The food was delicious, the servers were very nice and accommodating
We dined here on a Wednesday night to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. It was a quiet mid-week night so we had plenty of space between us and other guests. At least 20 feet. We sat outdoors. The food was excellent. We thought it would be small quantities but we were pleasantly surprised. The ribs melted in our mouths. The cheek and tongue terrine was delicious and so was the split pea soup. Highly recommend. If you want a nice quiet adult dinner that’s kosher, this place is for you.
The food was phenomenal
The service exceptional and the ambience was fantastic!!!
Two big thumbs up.
Food and service is outstanding definitely the best restaurant hands down in VENTURA County worth the drive.
Chef Gabe is so creative and a force to be reckoned with!!
The food and wine is great, the atmosphere is great, the staff is great, we love it every time we go.
Had a very nice relaxing evening. Currently the entree menu is not large although it is
not run of the mill either. Interesting sauces. Would say the wines are a little pricey.
The staff was very attentive and exceeded our expectations. The tables inside were spaced very far apart which made for an extremely safe and relaxing environment.
Everyone enjoyed their food except unfortunately for me. I ordered the short rib special which was all fat except for a couple of bites.
Split pea soup good
Ravioli app good
Fried cauliflower good
Menu was same as we had had 2 weeks earlier on Thursday night. Boring!
Salad with green Goddess dressing- over dressed, special veal ribs - which 4 or 5 people had - all were slabs of fat, with too view veggie sides..a few corn cornels! The dessert was exactly the same as our previous visit ..didn’t like it then and didn’t like it now.
Need to change up the menu..or maybe we need to eat there less.
Very lovely fixed-price menu with something for everyone.
Service was very good at beginning but our waiter seemed overly busy when we were ready for our check so that took some time. Food is 5 star
Excellent service, food delicious. Outside NO, Inside YES!
Such a wonderful experience all around. Our server Jacob went above and beyond, he was kind, receptive, and offered interesting information about the restaurant and winery, menu items, and wine details. We were allowed to take our time and enjoy each other on the quiet patio. Food was amazing!! Our favorites were the house made pesto linguini, veal chorizo on Spanish tortilla, veal chop, and lemon blueberry cheesecake. We ordered the wine accompaniment and all 4 were superb! Dinner for 2 was over $300, so very expensive but it was worth it for the all around great experience. Highly recommend for a nice date night.
The food and service were fabulous, as was the wine list. The menu was understandably limited, but fabulous nonetheless.
