Our friends live in Devon, we are in Surrey, where is a pretty little town to meet up? Bradford on Avon, and of course it has to be beside the river.
Timbrell's Yard fits the bill perfectly and its natural wood decor adds to the leisurely ambience. Both bar area and restaurant are pleasant places to be, you feel relaxed and welcome. The service at Timbrell's we were particularly pleased with. Staff knew the menu, ingredients and were able to make informed wine matches if required. (And I'm fussy!) Many wines were available by the glass so we were able to sample a few!
The vegetarian option was far from the trendy boring risotto and the lamb dish cooked to perfection. Desserts were irresistible. White chocolate parfait and home made rhubarb ice-cream just two from the delectable list!
Thank goodness we had booked a room for the night................................
We booked a night here for our wedding anniversary but as we were put on a table right by the que for tables and the team seamed understaffed we felt a bit short changed.
The food was outstanding and I would give the place a second chance but perhaps on another night!
The meal we had was excellent - I really enjoyed the crab cakes and rump of lamb followed by a chocolate tart, all beautifully presented and delicious. Couldn't fault the service and all in all it was a lovely experience.
We had a light lunch on a Saturday with a party of 7. Service was excellent and the food was very good. Although most of us didn't drink wine I was impressed by the range that was available by the glass. We were also impressed by the design and ambience of the place and hope very much it prospers. Inexpensive it isn't but given the overall quality not over expensive either.
Lovely, light space with lots of glowing wood creates a very natural ambience, in which the delicious fresh food is served by very pleasant staff. My hake and husband's steak were perfectly cooked, although on a Monday night options were limited (at least that confirms it's all fresh!). Wines a little pricey for the quality but would definitely go back there.
We would not normally pay your prices, but my husband was so impressed with your food that he even said we would definitely come back here again
It is so nice to be able to eat out with local fresh and free range products and all cooked to perfection in your kitchen
The only downside was I booked online and said it was for my birthday and when we arrived I reminded them, but I didn't get a treat or anything which I thought was bad and sad in this day and age
I have visited Timbrell's Yard for food on several occasions and am always impressed with the ever changing menu and helpful and informative staff.
I particurlarly love their desserts. Definitely be going back.
We eat here regularly; the food is excellent, good service, and a lovely place. We went for the early bird steak and wine £13.50 on Friday, which was stunning and unbeatable value. Huge flat iron, chunky chips, salad and blue cheese/peppercorn sauce with a glass of house wine. Fantastic. Our Sunday lunch there with family was also extremely good, and good value. This is the only place I literally 'must' have a desert!
We have visited this restaurant twice in the last month, once for Sunday lunch and the other on a Saturday evening. We were not disappointed as it has a perfect mix of good service, ambience, excellent food and wine. It feels like a special occasion but equally relaxing for a more casual visit. The furnishings are lovely, tables are well spaced apart. Cannot wait to go back soon.
Timbrels Yard is a great development, and a positive addition to the Wiltshire dining scene. We were celebrating a grandparents birthday, but the promise wasn't quite met.
The ambiance of the man restaurant was a little too loud, and a little too rustic to be cosy, but that can be overlooked. (and improved with some softer decorative additions to dampen the noise.
It was Sunday Lunch, so a limited menu was to be expected, but while the Roast choice was fabulous, the options away from that were limited, and no bar menu was available (a pity).
The appetizers were wonderful, and we loved the pricing options here.
We went from these into the main courses. Our children opted for roast (pork and chicken) both good choices it seemed. We went for the plaice, which was not so good, the base was soggy and tasteless, meaning half the fish was somewhat wasted. On reflection we should have chosen the roast (beef looked amazing).
Wine choice was great, and a good range at reasonable prices on offer.
Service was not to the level i would have expected, staff were a little disinterested (not in an aloof way, more a bored way).
I actually slipped down the stairs returning from the toilets, the receptionist and a waiter noticed, but seemed far from concerned, I was fine as it turned out, but noted to them that the top of the step was very slippy (due perhaps to the rain outside) a lack of reaction is not good.
Overall a little disappointed. The food was very good in places, but missed a few times too, value-wise, it was perhaps a little pricey for the return.
And the front of house staff let it down. However. I would like to revisit perhaps on an evening to see if a wider menu offers better value, and if the atmosphere would be better than a rainy Sunday afternoon.
I so want to give this place a chance to shine.
We arrived to a great bar full of atmosphere and a roaring fire so we asked if we could eat in here rather than the restaurant which was fine.
We both ordered fish and for the price my hake dinner was a bit bland. My boyfriend ordered plaice and really struggled to find much fish on the portion he was served.
We had received a £40 voucher for Xmas from a family member and I also had a £10 off from the newsletter however the response from one of the waiters to this was quite rude when I handed in both at the bar.
His words were, these cannot be used in conjunction with each other, to which I was shocked as a £40 voucher was a voucher which someone had paid good money for.
I was a bit embarrassed as I had to insist in front of a bar full of people,
A great restaurant with lovely décor. Great Restaurant quality food at fair prices.
We dined at Timbrell's Yard when it first opened & were very impressed. This was our first visit since and we were a little disappointed.
The maitre d' was distracted. The service was timid. The rib of beef was dry. The plaice was not filleted. The sight of the chefs squirting food on their hands and eating it wasn't encouraging.
Overall, the dinner was OK but it was disappointing compared to the initial promise when knowledgeable, experienced staff served great food.
The menu was imaginative with a good range of choices for each course. Two of our party had special dietary requirements and we really appreciated the care that was taken to ensure that these requirements were accommodated.. The welcome was warm, the service was friendly and the food was brilliant- beautifully presented, excellent flavours and not too filling. It made for a very special New Years Eve celebration.
Wonderfully relaxed and romantic Christmas Eve supper. Good menu, well presented, and with good service. We're staying here too in a lovely room, so overall a great trip.
took my wife and my daughter and her partner and my grandson for lunch Christmas eve. great experience, excellent food and a fantastic way to start the festivities.
I went with my sister on a Monday evening to catch up for the last time before we see each other on Christmas day. It was a fantastic evening. The food was outstanding (I even ate the cabbage which I generally don't eat) we both ordered the Christmas meal which we thoroughly enjoyed, every mouthful was full of flavour and for the start of the meal we hardly spoke as we enjoyed the meal. The desserts had a wide selection to choose from. I had the crumble which was lovely and warming and my sister had the poached pear in mulled wine. We both enjoyed the meal immensely, so much so I told a friend about it and she booked a table for her and her boyfriend. I will definitely be back.
We were immediately amaZed by the beautiful setting of the restaurant, situated right on the river. Staff were professional, polite and helpful. Lovely atmosphere within the restaurant, tables not too close together.
Fish and chips was absolutely perfect, the best i'd ever had and probably will ever have!
Cheese board with homemade crackers was also perfection, cheeses were locally sourced and homemade chutney complemented them perfectly.
Great food - especially the goat's cheese and pesto croquettes!
The restaurant was quiet and lacked ambiance but we did go on a Sunday evening so this maybe the reason.
Staff were attentive and professional.
We stayed for three nights.Accommodation good and clean with great shower en suite. However, no lift for access to upper rooms.Excellent breakfasts , dinners and staff. Very near station, town and it is on the river.Has own small parking area.Morning coffee not hot.
Comparing the type of food offered with other establishments in the same area, I would say that the description of some dishes is misleading and some cuts of meat are cheaper but disguised because of the way the dishes are served ie Flat ironed or Rib eye only. No fillet or Sirloin. The food could have been hotter and was expensive for the quality. The waitress was informed at the time and said she would mention it to the kitchen, but no follow up apology. The bar staff were slow and the whole place was lacking a personal touch of a floor manager or matra di.
The place was seething with people, and this meant the service was stretched. However we were kept waiting for food for an extraordinary amount of time, and the waitresses were young and a little disinterested. One went passed me and said "excuse me" in a manner that meant get out of my way rather than I'm sorry. When we were asked how our meal had been, we said that we felt we had waited a very long time - "Oh sorry" said the waitress, and then she was gone. My food was fine - soup and venison, but my husband's pheasant was dry and unpleasant - not to mention an odd combination of flavours - cajun spiced pheasant leg with baked beans anyone??? We had been there so long that we really couldn't be bothered to hang around for coffee or pudding. A shame because it's a nice location on the river, but we will not be returning
My family and I had a lovely stay and dinner here. The food was very nice and the service outstanding.
Went to Timbrell's Yard for my birthday lunch with my family - from the moment we walked in until we left, the service and experience was fantastic. There was a great variety of food choices at a very reasonable value for the quality of food. We loved the cosy and friendly atmosphere, only downside would be we were sitting by the restaurant's phone which rang throughout the meal! Other than that, I had a fabulous birthday meal and would definitely recommend to friends, family and return again myself! Thank you!
My wife & I dropped in on Fri eve after hearing favourable reviews.
The restaurant was busy but in request we were re-situated on a table for two at the entrance. This was perfect.
We shared a starter of the 3 items for £10 (brisket & 2x haddock fish cakes). Small but very tasty & well presented.
I went for the pork belly which came with mash & a black pudding based croquette with gravy. My wife opted for plaice with thick cut chips. Her plaice was enormous, & cooked to perfection. The chips very thick & slightly under cooked. We shared the peas & bacon in cream as a side.
The whole meal was a delight with great service and a fair price (£57 with a red wine and beer). We will return.
Good wholesome food and attentive service.
Our celebration was for a wedding anniversary, 65 birthday, and sale of a house, so we were really looking forward to having a good evening.
It would be good to have some nibbles available with pre dinner drinks. Nothing on menu but asked if bread and oil/vinegar was possible. Given sliced bread and mix that was 95% oil and a dash of vinegar. Not what you would expect from this restaurant.
Service is a consistent comment from other reviews and our experience was no different. Had to keep asking for things rather than the waitress offering to help. She was not aware of what a vegetable was but instead of asking the chef, just said don't know. Wine came with a flourish and after being poured was just plonked on the table. Had to tell her it would be good if the white was put in the cooler that she had brought. Instead of serving people with their plates properly she leaned over others to place them in front of the person.
Couple of other bits but plainly this waitress had either not been shown the proper way to serve a meal in a restaurant or had ignored what she had been taught. OK for pub grub at the local but not somewhere that is aspiring to be a bit more.
Puddings were OK but nothing special, certainly not a patch on the starters and mains. Looked as though they were bought in rather than home made. Didn't ask the waitress as I doubt she would have known.
Despite this we enjoyed ourselves and would come back for the ambience and the food, but please sort out the service.
We ate at tumbrels yard on Saturday night, and all I can say is that everything was first class from start to finish. The food was faultless, the sea bass and the pork belly were the standout dishes. The beer is will kept, also they have a very good wine list. The service was top class. All the staff are a credit to the business. I will be telling everyone about timbrells yard.
Staying at Timbrell's Yard for the first time and booked Sunday lunch. My husband had the roast beef and I opted for the pork. Both were delicious and succulent. Also loved the cheesy leeks! We followed this up with a naughty chocolate salted caramel cake with locally produced clotted cream. Divine and heavenly. The best bit was the service. Our lovely lady was Jess who also organised breakfast to be ready for my husband the following morning at 7.30am as he had to dash off to a meeting in Cardiff. I would highly recommend the food and rooms at this fabulous gem of a place.
Went on a first date and was very impressed with everything. The menu has something for everyone. Great location, Food, Service and polite staff. Will definitely use again.
Food was lovely and portions were a decent size. Not the cheapest place to eat but the quality of the food is worth paying for. Bought the house wine which was a good quality red. Service was very attentive, would definitely recommend this place.
I can't say that I've ever been anywhere that ticks all the boxes as Timbrells Yard does. Excellent food, easily the best Sunday lunch I've ever had, and I've had many! Beautiful location and restaurant, and very well trained staff - pleasant, attentive and very efficient without being OTT and false. Everything is as you'd hope a restaurant to be. Congratulations to the manager. We will definitely be back, and often.
This was my first meal here and I took my two best friends who were visiting for the weekend. The service, food and ambiance were faultless. We had a great time and I will definitely be back. I will use it for a special occasion restaurant and will also try it for a passing coffee/drink.
Great fresh local produce. Lovely staff. Would definitely come back!
Great venue that is situated in a gorgeous town called Bradford on Avon. Timrell's Yard is new and is a pub, restaurant and hotel. WE stayed in the hotel and ate at the restaurant and pub. All venues were new, and wonderful.
Having made the choice to go to Timbrell's Yard based on reputation and being the new kid on the block, I felt it would be the right place to celebrate my fathers 80th and my wedding aniversary. The online booking process was easy and confirmation was quick.
After ordering our starters they all came out except one which was confused with one of the main dishes. My main course was the same as my sons starter and when it arrived it appeared to have been rushed and wasn't exactly as it had been described in the menu.
We then waited a considerable time and when the waitress did attend our table she asked if we'd like the sweet menu. We explained that we hadn't even had our main course yet. Finally after waiting for about 45 minutes we did get our main courses. These were fine except for the fact that my main course once again hadn't been described correctly as wasn't chorizo, it was prosciutto.
Finally, the waitress started to clear the table before my son had finished. As there had been so many errors we decided not to have the sweet menu and left. Neither the maitre d' or the waiting staff said goodbye or thanked us as we left. Consequently we didn't leave a tip.
We were a party of 6. The food was excellent - the menu offers good choice with food that is very well presented. Great portions sizes and amazing flavours! The service was amateur: a drinks order was forgotten, we were not told in advance of dishes that were unavailable and we were charged for dessert wine that they had run out of. This was acknowledged and the restaurant did make amends. Time to take care of the basics.
The food was delightful, tasty, qhot and in just the right quantity. We shared a starter of mackerel with a sardine ketchup on sourdough which had us salivating for more. Our fishy mains (plaice and hake) were cooked to perfection and the side of peas with bacon and cream was a revelation. The restaurant itself has a lovely ambience with low lighting and a modern but intimate feel. The staff were a delight so attentive and friendly but still appropriate and professional. Am now searching the diary for a date to come back. You will not be disappointed.
The food was very good but sadly the price of the wine per glass spoilt the evening
I booked on toptable 4 weeks prior for a birthday dinner for my Mother-in-law. I rang on the morning of the booking to reduce the numbers from 8 to 6. When I arrived my booking had been lost on the system and the staff explained that there were two bookings under my last name for that evening and the other one was amended! Which seemed like a lame excuse moreover, there were quite a few tables empty and instead the staff should have seated us on another table. To add to this, our bill included wine that we didn't order! Again the member of staff gave another poor excuse for this error.
The food however was absolutely delicious, arrived promptly and portions were perfect.
