Even though it was the holidays and they were clearly working with the b team, food and service was very good. Menu was game heavy, which is the hot thing in London now.
A real disappointment for me! Just prior to us attending, I discovered some poor reviews on trip advisor and almost cancelled our reservation...but went through with it, only to be incredibly disappointed.
The service was slow, some of the menu was not available and we were not advised prior to ordering and the food we did have was steak and it was as tough as old boots!
I would not return and would not recommend
I am going to post my “trip advisor review “ because honestly I have given this too much time already. No word from my personal email to the restaurant.
Vacillating between Terrible and Poor.
This is probably my 20th meal at Tom's Kitchen since it opened. I am a huge long time fan of Tom Aitkens, his innovative delivery and passion about both fine food and food for the people. Some years ago he had a Fish Market/ Fish and Chippery a bit down the road on Cale Street. I have a huge amount of respect for his dedication towards sustainable food sources and sustainable fishing.. BUT if this was my 20th meal at Tom's Kitchen this meal and the 19th meal about 6 months ago fall into the basket of the worst dining experiences of the 21st Century. I only rebooked because I received an email in October that their difficulties had been sorted out. Apparently not as the meal was not only deja vu but worse. We were seated at an awful table away from the main part of the dining area despite having booked about 3 weeks earlier. No one was seated near us for the duration of our meal. We were served the wrong bottle of champagne and when we pointed this out there was a bit of a scene. The service was very slow, and the food (well it was a Monday but the fish and chips had a fishy suspect flavour). We were actually about to pay and leave before our food arrived hoping to walk into. nearby Thai restaurant but the food arrived before we could ask for the bill. I don't know what to say. I can neither recommend the restaurant or ever even consider returning.
Date of visit: December 2019
Arrived early but had a long wait until our table was available due to previous customers not leaving promptly. Service terribly slow. The restaurant simply couldn’t cope with having a full house. Cocktails nice but with only 1 member of staff serving, very slow. Compensated for poor/slow service by offering a complimentary bottle of wine which was nice but didn’t really make up for such a long wait.
Average place, probably due to the choice i made.
My dish was made by little cups of different things, extremely small quantity, not very tasty...I added two eggs and they came in a separate bowl...how do you eat two poached eggs alone, not even bread!
Tom’s Kitchen is a staple of any London trip. The food as always was outstanding. We opted for the chicken spatchcock and the steak frites. Finished with a very tasty Creme Brûlée.
The only issue with the service was that when we arrived the service staff were clearly very distracted by a large function taking place upstairs. We were given the wrong menus to start with, the server forgot to bring our water and a wine list. Once the meal was underway things really improved and we had a lovely evening.
I booked a table for lunch on Saturday and arrived on time with my guests. I was told that there were no tables downstairs and was taken to a cold, dreary, room upstairs where a few unhappy looking diners were seated. Most of it was empty. I noted that the people who had come in at the same time as us and not booked a table were seated downstairs. The service at the table was good but the receptionist did not even apologise for not have our booked table, or one ready within a few minutes. The food was OK but a bit cold. Nothing special. I will not go there again.
Lovely staff .dirty loo, we were there around 6pm! generally could be cleaner.
I’ve been there many times before, always a great experience. Really don’t know what happened this time, service was really bad. The 3 people serving the floor were really lost, very uncoordinated.
Temporary staffing issue led to the restaurant essentially closing....not clear why this happened but I'd want to be reassured before returning. Remaining staff did an admirable job - but all the diners were fairly annoyed
A few items came over 20 minutes late but Nezih the GM took very good care of us to compensate, very graciously offering us both free sides and desserts
Very nice food, helpful staff. I really enjoyed the lamb.
fantastic food - unfortunately, the restaurant is so loud you can barely hear yourself, and you have to shout at your dinner companion to be heard. Also, it was freezing cold - turn the heat on, please!
Good food and nice staff but only thing that let it down was that they forgot we were on the lunch menu so we had to chase them for the dessert.
Food excellent, service a bit poor. Ok once they got going
Great food but shame about the service. The waiter created us as if we were part of the same street gang - way too familiar, then continued with the same approach and getting annoyed that this communication was not reciprocated leaving all our dirty dishes on the table for about an hour. We will not be back after this service.
Now that Tom’s back in command, we were looking forward to a fine meal, but it was not to be. Our veggie burgers were tasty, but extremely mushy, disgustingly so. Service was spotty. The “Perfect Margarita” tasted like cheap tequila with a store-bought margarita mix. I hope things get sorted out soon, but with Tom focused on starting his new restaurant (Muse), I doubt it.
Really poor service at this restaurant for the last few visits. Not enough and untrained wait staff. A head waiter or Maitre'D (unsure as to position) who lacks the hospitality spirit. Mistakes made over wine and then told we were wrong! A real shame as we loved this place and even held a party here a few years ago. Won't be going back unless the front of house team changes.
Lovely food, wine and service only slightly spoiled by a overly-rowdy group of young men on a birthday celebration.
The quality of food very poor it’s not value for money also service bad
Menu not as varied as it used to be
Lovely food and great service. Bit quiet for a Monday in August - perhaps you should do some offers to get punters in and create more atmosphere!
Good ambience and choice of food.
One negative is the service provided. Waitress forgot parts of our order and even little things like when we asked for milk for the tea.
Extremely slow and confused service.very disappointed with the food. Waste of money
Disappointingly average. Booked a tasting menu that they were not offering on the day due to supplier issues.
Truly the best eggs benedict we have ever had. The prawn and crab and the ham and truffle. And we have tried a lot worldwide! The hollandaise was sublime not sickly like it often is! We will return.
Charged me for 2 items I didn’t receive. Didn’t realize until I got home. Poorly trained waitstaff. Amazing ricotta appetizer.
Great venue, super service with all staff ensuring everything is in order and genuinely seem to care about your experience as well as food quality.
Great spot in Chelsea for breakfast! Staff were very friendly and we had the best service. Highly recommend!
Hadn't been for two years, but it was at the same standard as before. Great for brunch, albeit always very busy. Service didn't suffer, though.
We ordered 3 steaks which were so tough they were barely edible. One was particularly bad, which we were refunded for. The fourth meal, pollock, was unpleasantly salty- it completely dominated the dish. The staff were attentive to the point of annoyance- interrupting conversation repeatedly and physically putting themselves between us
We had a fab waiter but the maitre d/a more senior waiter was very overbearing and a little off putting. Otherwise the food was good, and it was a very enjoyable evening
Table service was attentive, which made it a pleasure. I had the opentable menu for GBP20 with prosecco, which was pleasant. Tried the gin as well, which was pleasant. My partner ordered the flat iron steak, which had a very strong smell and felt abit "off". Upon feedback to the staff, we were told that this was normal due to the age of the cut. We did not like the steak at all - would not recommend it. I had the runs and had to go to the bathroom twice that evening upon returning home. So in conclusion, good table service, good value for the opentable menu, avoid the steak and there is a chance of getting the runs.
Having eaten a various Tom's restaurants a number of times before I knew the food would be good but the service on this visit was beyond poor. I've given 1 star as it wouldn't let me score it zero.
we arrived 10 mins beyond our 2pm reservation but we're immediately told the kitchen would be shutting soon and we needed to order "very quickly or we wouldn't get any food".
We proceed to order immediately (the waiter actually remained at our table from seating us, watched us read the menu and choose - no time to spare!) and the food arrived promptly, where the service took a real turn for the worse was the waiter practically starred at us throughout the lunch and rushed us out as quickly as possible, wine glasses filled to the brim quickly to ensure the bottle could be taken away, the person I was with actually requested we leave ASAP as the waiter was making them feel uncomfortable actually being there!
Disappointing experience when a quick lunch for 2 people (no deserts - didn't feel like we had time!) with a bottle of wine came to £137
We went there last time and it was really enjoyable that’s why we went back within a few weeks. This time the water didn’t even give me the set menu that’s was advised in the open table. She gave me two menus and said that’s all they have no other menus even though I keep asking. In the end I show her the set menu on the app she suddenly say, oh that, yes we do have that menu. I think the restaurant has been very cheeky for not offering that menu from the start and even I keep asking she won’t give it to us. We ended up didn’t even order from there anyway it but the feeling were gone. Very bad service in my view. Would never go back there ever again. Bad service all the way.
