Having eaten at and been more than satisfied with Tudors several times before we decided to try their steak night . We invited friends and had a lovely evening , we were all delighted with the steaks and they were cooked to perfection according to individual tastes. It was a monday night so much quieter there than the sunday caveries we had experienced previously. Only one of us had a starter, a tomato soup served extra hot as requested and after the main meals and a delicious bottle of shiraz none of had room to sample the desserts.
Pre vooked the valentine's menu, were seated by the waitress with normal menus. Swapped over the menus eventually. We waited 35 minutes for the first course (canapes) which never arrived, we were bought our starters straight away. I inquired and the waiter said they ran out of them last night but the chef would prepare us something to compensate (which never came either). Two mains on the set menu weren't available, no prior communication before the meal even though it was pre-booked and really wanted the beef. Waitor asked if we wanted two drinks on the house to make up for the lack of menu - which we ordered and the waitor seemed very reluctant. No check backs on food, although what we did have was delicious. Hair found in one of the drinks. Got the bill at the end and the drinks were on the bill, the waitor tried to change us for them. No apologies about the lack of menu, communication was awful, really put a downer on our meal. Paid £80 for 4 courses, meals not stated on the pre-booked menu and a waitor who didn't seem to communicate with us at all.
Great food and lovely atmosphere for Valentines Day dinner!
Excellent food in a very romantic atmosphere. Excellent service from very attentive waiting staff.
Food was spot on nice small menu and has got a choice for all.
We enjoyed a lovely lunch. Food was excellent & service not too hurried.
We were the only people in the restaurant so there was no ambience ( we’ll visit in the evening next time).
Pleasant background music & good value.
The dishes I'd chosen weren't available on the night 😭 BUT the food we had was delicious! A very chatty and attentive waitress. A lovely halfway point to meet 😀 We'll be back x
The fish and vegetables were fabulous, the meal was only let down by the mashed potatoes which were lukewarm. It would have been nice to have had a choice of boiled potatoes instead.
Three of us were happy with our meals but the fourth one said her fish was overcooked
The number of times staff walked past the table and left dirty plates was frightening.
The chef disappears for periods so you cannot get served.
There were only three dessert choices, no healthy options
Soup was lukewarm at best
The vegetables could do with refreshing more frequently.
This place needs to up its service level-the staff are complacent. They need a manager directing operations or one of the staff to be more observant and responsible.
I love the ambiance and feel of the Tudors Restaurant. The wood panelling, real log fire and old photos of St Albans give a lovely sense of past times. The service was excellent and it was great not to feel squashed in as there was amble room between the table. BUT my partners' steak was gristly and tough and my lamb shanks was cool in the middle. The desserts and coffee were great though just a shame about the main courses.
The restaurant was welcoming with a wonderful log fire. The tables were beautiful laid out and the food was delicious and looked as good as it tasted. The staff were quietly efficient and nothing was too much trouble. The whole experience made it a wonderful Christmas day. This was our third Christmas visit and certainly intend to go again next year.
The venue was lovely and we were glad they could accommodate a large group but the food was over all very disappointing. Some people who ordered the christmas turkey said it was cold, the fish dish was really microscopic and didn't even come with a vegetable accompaniment and the cheese cake tasted sour as if it had gone off.
Excellent food selection and service. The dairy-free options were especially appreciated!
Thank you for our Christmas Dinner! It was a wonderful experience at the restaurant. I have been here myself on a few occasions so I was hoping for the same level of customer service and great food I always get. We got that.
Not all of us had pudding so I cannot collectively comment on that - but the few that did enjoyed it.
There is nothing that I would change from our evening at the Tudors.
The place was very comfortable and the food was excellent. The only disappointment was that a number of items on the menu were not available including ginger beer and burgers.
Amazing experience, decor, ambience and food all 10/10. Service was friendly too
A while since we'd eaten at the Tudors Restaurant at the White Hart Hotel so we tried the Sunday Roast & am pleased to report we shall return! They offer a Cavery as well as a standard menu. All the staff are welcoming, efficient & work well as a team. The owners should be proud of them. The Chef was friendly & carved the meat from a choice of beef, pork or turkey. The rest was self service. A 3 course option was £19.95 or the main course offered at £14.95. The food was excellent & good value. Looking forward to returning some time soon.
Nice food and nice people! Very old style building with some character
Lovely building. Great helpful polite staff Room facilities were great Food excellent and plenty of it Will be coming back to St Albans and will definitely stay again. Been told that room 7 is the one to book so will request for on our next stay
Excellent Sunday buffet lunch, many great choices including dairy-free options as requested.
Very pleasant, good value. Not quite 5 star, but would use again.
Only problem was that Tudors Restaurant was undergoing renovation so we had to sit in the bar area and were offered a restricted menu. We were not aware of this at the time of booking. Service was excellent however.
Excellent Sunday lunch carvery with plenty of choices. Special diet well catered for.
The venue perfect, food excellent, great choices of meat Beef, pork with loads of cracking, turkey roll. Yorkshire puddings were massive, roast potatoes crunchy but only small vegetable choice, cabbage mixed with carrots (which was tasty) roast parsnips. I like rare beef and this was cooked to perfection, the chef was Hungarian and a delightful man. Will definitely go again with all the family
Fine dinong in ambient historic setting. Great service.
The food was lovely but the service was somewhat lacking. We had 2 people serve us and the first clearly didn’t want to be there. No indication of what might not be on the menu for the evening and took forever to come to ask what we wanted to drink or eat (despite there only being 3 tables to serve)
The second person to serve us was much more attentive and as a result I would go back.
We got married here in 2013 and had a lovely wedding. So we came back for our anniversary for a meal and overnight stay. Amazing food and good service. Thank you
Just average. Long wait. Cold plates.
Food and service was very good with the exception of the vegetables, these were in a heated tray with no heat underneath.
We would go back and recommend to friends.
Went here for Mother’s Day - Great food and great service
Lovely service, good pub-food, nice atmosphere, open fire, live music and a great evening.
I had wanted to try this restaurant for a while.
I booked a table for 1 with a book I was trying to finish.
I was the only person in the restaurant but it was early and a lovely sunny day outside.
The service was quick and unobtrusive, I do hate it when waiting staff keep asking if everything is ok?
The menu differed from the one seen online and i had already decided what i would like to try. However, the choice ample. The fish cake starter was lovely, unfortunately I found a bone in it.
The main was mushroom tortellini which was really good. The side of rocket salad with tomato and Parmesan shavings was great but there was a lemon seed in it which wasn't pleasant when i chewed it.
Good food, good service, good price.
I would like to try the restaurant again when it was busier to see how they fare.
I would definitely return though.
Saturday night in St Albans and most good eateries are full. Tudors was not and on arrival at 7.45 this caused us some concern. However, we were pleasantly surprised. The food whilst not being outstanding was perfectly satisfactory. Service was attentive if a little slow, but we think our waiter was quite new and he did well. It is always nice to have a proper tablecloth and proper serviettes.
Will certainly go again
Lovely traditional venue with nice atmosphere. We had the three course Sunday carvery which was good value for money but no frills. Sadly there wasn't a vegetarian alternative but they were able to offer veggie gravy to go with the veg which suited.
The staff were friendly and allowed us to stay for a number of hours chatting which was the purpose of the visit so ticked our boxes!
Had a good experience at Tudors Restaurant for Sunday lunch. The idea of the 3-course buffet table is good, so everyone can choose what they want and suitable pacing for the meal. Staff were helpful and the food was tasty. Good value for money. The setting is historic and atmospheric. Car parking is available at the back.
Very enjoyable meal on New Year's Eve. My partner and I had gone anticipating choosing fish until we saw veal escalope oon the menu, and we both went for that. We were not disappointed, they were excellent. And coupled with reasonably priced wine lid it really finished 2018 off in style for us.
A lovely atmosphere for Christmas Day warm and welcoming with a traditional log fire. The service was quietly efficient and all the staff friendly. The food was as delicious as always. Perfect for a Christmas lunch
Wonderful historic venue.
Great food, huge portions.
Really helpful chef on carvery.
Only criticism was waitress in Tudors, not very friendly.
We as down 5 seconds and were waiting for 2 of our party to arrive but she asked twice if we were reafyvto order.. we were 10 mins early and there was no time limit on the table so no need to rush us.
As soon as the 2 remaining party arrive she was insistent on taking a drinks order.
Our mother who's 91 struggles to decide what she wanted and waitress looked annoyed.
We asked for a very small portion for the 91 yr old and was served enough to feed 2 men, so she didn't listen.
When we asked did we could mix the menu part carvery part menu it took a while to understand if this was ok..chef at the carvery on the other hand was relaxed, calm, friendly and super helpful.
We were the only people dining on this night (5) nights before Christmas and while it was nice and quiet there was something missing! We had to ask staff to put the fairy lights back on as I think they'd forgotten we were there! The food was good but overpriced we thought, but the staff we re really great. After dinner we sat in the bar area as there's was definitely more atmosphere.
Would probably go again though during the year.
