I found this restaurant on a guide of 'best places to eat in Oxford' so booked in for a special lunch with my Mum - service was very slow, other tables who cam e in after us got served before we did, we asked for water and had to ask twice more before it came, food portions were very small, soup was cold. Overall pretty disappointed with this place.

We had a good meal, pre theatre.
Good service
Last time there was a choice of glass bottled still or fizzy water on the house, this time only still.
Good location to take visitors to

First table offered we couldn’t all fit as the next table was so close. Next table was level with the floor of the adjoining part of the restaurant. Floor was sadly filthy and rather off putting. Staff were lovely. Food was good.

I have been there several times before, and always found the food to be excellent with a good selection of dishes. This time the choice was very limited (only 5 starters, 5 mains and 3 desserts - of which one was cheese). The food was very bland and unimpressive, especially for the price, except for the chocolate dessert.

On the pus side are the excellent location and the nice atmosphere

seats are very very uncomfortable. Pretty busy- early Fri evening - but service was slow especially initially with wine. Also, your wooden floors exacerbate noise levels making conversation difficult.

Excellent service, great location and ambience. Our starters were a bit amateurish and surprised there was no bread with them. Our main courses were less than impressive, we expected the vegetarian option to arrived with Puy lentils but it was a sort of sloppy daal. The pork belly wasn’t crispy and was small and very tough. Nice place, pleasant experience but very mediocre cooking.

Great main courses, but the puddings were a little disappointing, the coconut milk panna cotta didn’t taste of anything and my husbands chocolate ganache was rock hard. The service was haphazard, we waited for ages for desert menus and to pay the bill.
But nice atmosphere and mains were good.

The ambience was good - not too noisy and quite cosy. Service was enthusiastic if a trifle slow (not the waiter’s fault - he had too many tables to serve). But my tagine was horrible: vegetables just mush with no flavour (certainly not the advertised spices) and topped with a sour yoghurt which didn’t agree with me at all. I suspect the dish was either frozen or reheated. The tagine at Café Rouge is much much better. For only the second time in my life I was not able to finish a restaurant meal. Very disappointing.

Haven’t been here for a while and was a bit disappointed this time. We had to request water 3 times before it arrived, even though they had already brought the glasses over. They were quite busy but seemed a bit chaotic. The mains very good but quite small portions on the vegetarian choices when the meat roasts weren’t much more expensive but looked like a decent plateful. The puddings sounded original and interesting so we thought we’d order some but were all disappointed and wished we’d not bothered at £7 for Elton mess that was pretty much a glass of cream with a few bits of fruit and hardly any meringue and shop bought amaretto biscuits. The poached plums with granola and ginger custard sounded appealing but was again mainly cream (which wasn’t even mentioned as an ingredient) with very small pieces of plum, a sprinkle of granola and the ‘custard’ was a cold drizzle of sauce that wasn’t enough to taste the ginger. We weren’t asked if we enjoyed the meal and overall thought it wasn’t good value for money and won’t eat there again. I can only assume they are putting profit before customer satisfaction.

Food was ok but sadly lacking in flavour! We felt quite rushed too - mains arrived only 10 minutes after ordering and long before our drinks turned up. Sadly it's starting to feel much more about quick turn arounds and profit than a leisurely enjoyable meal. And that's reflected in the quality of the food too. Ours was only just warm (and felt reheated). On the plus side, the staff are as lovely and attentive as ever.

Lovely restaurant with friendly, knowledgable staff. Food was delicious, plenty of inventive vegetarian options which I was impressed by. Love the fact they’re part of a local social co-operative, their food is all seasonal and locally sourced and they are on the Low Carbon charter - plus they try to be zero waste where possible!
