Typing Room Ratings and Reviews
The Town Hall building complements the whole food experience. I was sat at the pass and can see the care and attention put into the elegant plates of food produced by Chef Lee Westcott. The Typing Room offers a tasting menu bringing together seasonal food which taste as good as they look. The service was spot on and the wine recommendation was also great. The whole ambiance of the Typing Room is fantastic. Well worth a visit. I'll certainly be returning!
Typing room is outstanding. From the flawless friendly perfectly pitched service to the incredible and memorable tasting menu. There are two particular dishes that I will never ever forget. No idea why it hasn’t got a star. It’s ludicrous. You’ll not a find a more special restaurant.
My partner and I had an amazing time at Typing Room. The service and the food were impeccable, and the lady running the show, Blaise, was an outstanding hostess who made us feel very welcome and was thoroughly professional throughout. The food is superb, thoroughly recommend it!
My hubby is foodie and he loved every single thing on the menu and the paired wine. We had a autumnal tasting menu with some standout dishes as mackerel, seaweed and radish and plaice, celeriac, cep and chicken. Outstanding food in a great spot in East End. Highly recommend it!
Had the 5 course tasting menu for dinner and it was the best dining experience I've had for a very long time! Lovely old building, and inside where we dined the kitchen was open so we could see the chefs hard at work. Really nice ambience and had a modern, contemporary feel about it.
The menu doesn't give much away as it only lists the main ingredients so you can't really picture what you'll be eating. Each course was beautifully presented and tasted exceptional. My personal favourites were the trout, plaice and duck. The waiters/waitresses made the effort to explain what we were eating and we felt very looked after - our glass was never empty! In total, I would say we had about 10 courses (including snacks and pre-desserts).
Had such a great evening and would highly recommend to anyone in the Bethnal Green area!
We visited the Typing Room during a break to London in celebration of our wedding anniversary. We arrived slightly early for our table and were accommodated and seated early.
I had a long kenny cocktail which was lovely and the absinthe gave it a real sweetness - although it was quite strong as an aperitif, a burst of alcohol to start the meal is never a bad thing though!
We decided to have the set lunch menu which was good value. Many Michelin restaurants do this in the week for a similar price, but not on a Saturday, so it was nice to have this option.
We chose this restaurant for its different choice of ingredients. This wasn’t your usual chicken/lamb and I love game so to see pigeon and hare on the menus online made us decide to visit. I do think that these days, even with a daily menu, it should be on the website and sample menus can sometime mislead - seeing something you like to then be offered something rather different. Fortunately the menu was exactly what we wanted, steak tartare and pigeon.
The freshly baked bread was lovely and although not a fan of marmite, the marmite butter was nice as well.
The food is beautifully presented and you can see the chefs cooking in the kitchen. The head chef seemed to be a perfectionist when it came to plating up - it was good to see him directing his chefs.
Each course was delicious and full of flavour. The courses were perfectly portioned for a lunch and we left just the right side of full.
The service was pleasant and not overbearing. I booked via opentable (very easy) and I selected the box to say this was a special occasion. Most of the time this means nothing but it was acknowledged by the restaurant and they gave us a special treat as a result. We also got a signed menu as a momentous with a personal message printed on it. It is often the little things that make the difference (that ironically don’t cost the establishment any money) and this level of service was noticed. A very enjoyable lunch.
Truly amazing night. We loved the food: the way different flavours were brought together, the quality, the presentation, the originality and the service were all outstanding. Definitely recommend this restaurant. Only thing maybe is the acoustic of the restaurant. It's noisy, despite the fact that it wasn't busy when we were there. We had to shout in order to have a conversation.
We had a great evening. The food was superb. Adventurous without descending into simply peculiar. The combinations were very successful and each dish brought with it new taste experiences. The service was all one could expect good service to be: prompt and attentive without being obtrusive. I would definitely recommend the restaurant to anyone who thinks they deserve a special treat.
The typing room lived up to the reviews! We had a fantastic evening. All the staff were warm and friendly and made us feel right at home. All the food was delicious and we discovered new wines to love. When I didn't like the desert they immediately got an alternative for me so that the evening wouldn't end on a low. That was very sweet. We went as a date-night/birthday celebration and it was the perfect venue for that. We also stayed in the hotel as a treat which was also fantastic.
The whole experience was fantastic. The food was superb and eclectic. We had a combined wine and sake accompaniment with the courses which was fantastic. Service was excellent. A must for anyone who loves food and wants a great evening in a laid back atmosphere
This was the most memorable dining experience in recent memory. In addition to a brilliantly conceived and executed menu (where every bite elicited an OMG!) the room was gorgeous and understated, the waitstaff was knowledgeable, charming, and solicitous, and the atmosphere relaxed. As a serious home cook, I love when the level of excellence is far beyond anything I would attempt myself.
I live in NY where there are many fine restaurants, but I would move to London to be close to the Typing Room.
