Utsav is an ancient Sanskrit word meaning festival. An integral part of Indian culture, Indian festivals are innumerable and equally varied in origin from the Himalayan foothills to the Peninsula's tip and food plays a very prominent part of the festive events.
Each dish has its own distinctive flavor and aroma, thanks to the fresh spices that are prepared everyday for each individual dish. The blending and preparation of fresh spices is a centuries old exacting craft, which is indispensable to Indian cuisines.
This is a very small and wonderful restaurant.
Don't be disappointed - make a reservation as the tables are always full.
Utsav was a lovely dining experience. My boyfriend and I went on Valentine’s Day and had a really delicious meal! We’re both Indian and found the food very authentic and delicious — my favourite was the Bhindi Bahji and his, the lamb vindaloo! The service was great as well but we could tell wait staff were really struggling to keep up with all the tables and others got their food with a bit of delay. Everything went perfectly for us though so I can’t complain!
I've often looked in the window but this was my first visit, certainly not my last. The onion appetizer was outstanding, as was the Saag Paneer, the chicken in cashew sauce and the cauliflower dish. I appreciated that my friend and I were encouraged to order a small bismathi rice. Even so, the staff were happy to pack up the leftovers so each of us had two meals for about $28 each. Hard to beat. The service however could be improved by adding another server, especially at rush time.
Excellent food! Very enjoyable. The place is small but cozy so make sure to reserve to ensure getting a table.
Can always count on the food being very tasty. Notable however was the service. Our waiter was outstanding. We were there about 2 1/2 hours in deep conversation. Checked in on us but left us to our discussions.
Very nice people.
Admittedly impressed... the food is delicious and service attentive. Chicken Vindaloo was particularly good. I will be going again.
All dishes very good. Fish tikka just slightly overcooked. Tailored to our request which was excellent particularly the chicken tikka in coconut curry.
This place has always delivered. Been coming to this restaurant for 12 years and the staff is always nice and courteous and the food quality has been consistently good.
The best part I like is that their portions are right sized and right priced... most restaurants prefer to charge more and throw in a bigger portion to make it feel OK but UTsav prefers to do right.
I’ll end by saying this is a family favourite and a great spot to dine with your significant other, friends or even by yourself .... keep up the good work and food quality . We will keep coming back
Lovely restaurant with quality food and good service at a fair price. Would definitely go there again and would recommend.
Miss the white table clothes :)
Best Indian in the area - love it !
Excellent food and a neighborhood delight! We get to Toronto once a year and this restaurant is a must for us!
First time in. The atmosphere was perfect for a casual dinner conversation. Service was prompt, polite and professional. Portions were well sized. The food was well prepared, presented nicely, and tasted great. Price was reasonable compared to most places in the neighbourhood. I definitely recommend.
We’ve been there quite a few times already and are loving it. The food is delicious and the service is great as well.
Been there two days ago and already looking forward to the next time!
Fabulous indian food, service and well priced! Would definitely recommend.
Lovely bright space perfect for my time with my girlfriend. The food was nicely spiced and delicious . The tomato salad was not as fresh as I hoped. The Salmon Tikka a little dry but flavourful. SErvice was very charming and warm . I would definitely return. Thankyou
A really great dining experience! Delicious food, and the staff go out of their way to make sure you enjoy your stay.
Great food at a good price. Service is very efficient and courteous.
Well, it is interesting that you ask as you first sent a mail that we had not shown up for our reservation; we had.
The food was delicious, particularly the Kulcha Paratha and the other breads we ordered. I had the Boa Shrimp, which included very large shrimp and a spicy sauce. Someone had the milder Shrimp dish; I think it was Bhayani. The ladies enjoyed the large Cappucino
One in our group had selected Utsav because it was near to the theater where we had tickets and there was a 15% discount available if you showed your theater tickets.
Initially, the restaurant did not acknowledge the discount was 'in effect', but the Manager was kind enough to make good.
Good dinner !
Poor service- even after looking at and calling the server with your hand they wouldn't move in your direction, they would wait till their whim to come over for placing the order.
Food itself was average, the vegetarian biryani is more like boiled rice mixed with raw vegetables and not upto the mark - recommend you stay away from that.
The seating arrangements are very cramped so when getting up from your table you will likely nudge someone else's chair or table.
I heard another table ask for a dessert menu and the server simply stared at them for a second and arrogangly rattled off the dessert specials. The couple couldn't understand what was what and decided to skip and call for the cheque.
There are much better places like Butter Chicken Factory where the food and experience is more worthy of your time.
Excellent Indian food and service. Subtle and complex flavors. Each dish, including the Goan fish curry had the right amount of spicy heat. The butter chicken had layers of flavor. Basmati rice was aromatic and flavorful and we were surprised that saffron rice came with one of the dishes. Unique clear tomato broth. The experienced owner was familiar with the chef at one of our favorite Indian restaurants in San Francisco.
One of the best Indian restaurants in Toronto, great value curry lunch deal, try the fish curry spicy, its delicious.
My favourite Indian food restaurant in Toronto. Great lunch deal and always delicious.
I loved the food at the restaurant however i couldn’t finish it so we asked them to pack it to go, i ordered chicken stew but the next day i realized they packed someone else’s dish because its only tofu in the stew. So disappointed i wonder if they do this on purpose or not.
Was a pretty great dining experience. Made a reservation and was promptly seated and taken care of with a complementary soup sample and shot of wine. Service was good and a fairly quick. Food was amazing, some of the best Indian food I have had in my life. The table arrangement wasn't ideal but understandable given how small of a space they have to accommodate many patrons. Had to squeeze to get in because of how close the tables were together or pull the table out in order to access the benches lining the wall. Overall was a really good experience and would recommend as a dinner date for sure.
Looking for a spot near Yonge and Bloor. Decided to try Utsav
Very good evening
Delicious food and spice level was perfect. My group really enjoyed it and want to go back.
Great place, consistently good quality food and service. Never disappointed when eating there, be it in small or larger groups.
The food is not authentic Indian. I believe the flavour palate has been tweaked to cater to the western taste bud, so i found the curries under-spiced and under-seasoned per 'Indian' standards.
Good quality Indian food, good service & staff very accommodating always enjoy this place!
Food was good as always and service is friendly and efficient
Always delicious fresh food and warm, friendly, efficient service. Relaxed atmosphere, easy to have a conversation.
Excellent Indian food in a lovely intimate location. We will definitely be back
This was our first visit and both the food and the service was very good.
The most delicious, authentic meal we’ve had in a long time . 10/10
Great specials for two, and a nice cozy spot for dinner
Will be returning
