We arrived at twelveish,it was very quiet but such a great ambience. It was a sunny day so we sat outside under the cherry tree. Then inside for our meals, by which time the place was filling up and was a really happy atmosphere. Young Jake behind the bar did a sterling job keeping bar and food
orders going and the food is great also.
Brilliant place and we will certainly be back
That's a promise Jake not a threat!!!
Really lovely venue with great staff. Could do with some more vegetarian and vegan options for those of us who don't eat meat or fish. Really that's the only thing that stops me having tapas more often.
Food was lovely, service was awful. No one took our food order, didn’t check to see if we wanted anything else once food had arrived and then when we came to pay our food couldn’t be found on the till and we were expected to list everything which we had ordered
Such a charming, friendly place! Great atmosphere & delicious food. Thank you!
The most delicious food. Fun place and very nice staff. Pretty setting outside
The staff were very nice and friendly. There was a good range of options (particularly for vegetarians) on the menu and the set lunch offer was good value. The food itself was also nice.
The only slight downside was that while the restaurant was nice, it was pretty cold and for this reason we ate quite quickly and decided not to stick around for another drink and pudding.
We would return if we were in the area.
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Excellent in every way, thank you.
The food is immense, this is truly a hidden little gem for Sherborne.
Absolutely loved this visit. Great service and great good. This standard is normal across all of our visits however the ambience today just made it. Busier the better it seems.
Always enjoy a visit to Vida Comida, especially when a special family gathering
A bit of Spain in Sherborne ! This restaurant never disappoints. the staff are always charming and efficient.
A brave attempt to introduce the tapas scene to Sherborne. Really worth going to. Great food, and not expensive. Quick, friendly service.
The food was really delicious. On first thoughts a bit pricey but, then, given the excellent food worth the cost.
Poor value for money. Really noisy due to very large party next to us. Literally couldn’t hold a conversation
Good atmosphere. Quick service and plenty of choice. Only thing is that the dishes all come at once and it would be better to stagger them in my opinion. You feel like you have to rush your eating. Maybe order some dishes and eat. Then order another lot! But we like it here and have been several times.
Very good Menu and good range of food
Would come back
We had a lovely lunch there for 8 people of all ages. Great service and really good food. The staff were so friendly and we all loved it. I hope to go back soon.
good and speedy lunchtime service, tasty food and a very nice cocktail. Will be back
we were at Group of 5, and ordered several tapas dishes. All courses came after 5-10 min, and was abviously already ready made. Cheese was Cold, ham was hard and not very interesting.
Fried potatoes salso was much to spicy. Overall not too bad, but did still not meet Our expectations.
We enjoyed the meal and the place had a nice feel to it. Tapas were good but it is an expensive restaurant and I wonder if long term they can retain their clientele. Service was good and waitresses were attentive. We did not have to wait long for the various dishes to arrive.
Underwhelming food in general.
The service was fabulous.
Nothing wrong with any dish but only the chips were outstanding and at £3.50 per portion, they should be.
Very friendly, clean. Just lacking individuality and love where the food was concerned.
Expensive too IMHO.
Excellent meal served by happy and busy staff. Started off slow but built up to a great service and knowledge shown by the staff.
We first came two years ago before the film festival and have been back many times since, good food and atmosphere
Very friendly and helpful. Delicious food. Good value.
Fantastic food, quick and attentive service. Great cocktail menu. Lots of choice for vegetarians. Would definitely recommend.
As the restaurant had few customers we did not mind seating on the end of a very long table.Would go again.Loved the food and atmosphere.
Food was fantastic, service was great had a live band not so much was too loud but would go back might be a new family favourite
Enjoyed the meal though portiins small for cost of each dish when sharing still great place and nice atmosphere . Would be nice to hear live music occasionally to comolete the atmosphere
We have lunched there a few times now. Our daughter who has Spanish connections was impressed with the food. Staff were very pleasant and helpful. Very relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
Great food and friendly service. Really enjoyed this place.
Aaa overall very good but one of the waitresses a little unhelpful
Excellent food, very friendly staff. Loved the way that the tapas was brought out in stages so things that should be hot were still hot when we ate them. Liked the Spanish wine and the music was perfect for that setting.
Excellent choice of food and drinks this tapas restaurnat is a great place for lunch or evenng meal
This place looks inviting but is staffed by expressionless teenagers who need staff training in how to welcome and speak to customers . The food varies from delicious to tasteless and some of it is overpriced [£2.50 for a teaspoonful of chutney] It could be so much better!!
Excellent food and cocktails served in a relaxed and friendly environment.
We were staying in Sherborne for a few days as we were attending a family wedding close by on the Saturday. We fancied eating somewhere casual but with great (not pub-esk) food and Vida Comida ticked that box.The staff were attentive and cordial. There were all ages in the restaurant giving it a convivial atmosphere. The food came all at the same time which we weren't really expecting given that it was tapas but it didn't spoil our experience. We chose a variety of dishes - lots of traditional tapas and salad. We accompanied it with a good bottle of Rioja and a sherry after dinner. Delicious!
It's not cheap however it is good quality and delightful food.
We recommended to others at the wedding and they will be there during the rest of their stay (they were very disappointed with an Indian restaurant they frequented in Sherborne).
Went here with in-laws for an anniversary meal. Great food and very good staff who managed to be attentive without being overbearing. Will definitely be back.
Had a lovely totally relaxed evening celebrating my daughter's birthday. Great food, very helpful staff and gluten-free options available. Thank you for all your help regarding GF menu. We will be back.
I have previously 'gushed' about experiences of dining at Viva Comida, and please don't get me wrong we had a good meal and an enjoyable lunchtime on our last visit. For balance however, I would like to point out a couple of things that differed from previous experiences.
The staff on arrival were all very young, and no one seemed to be in charge. We were not the only 'milling' group and it was I who suggested to the young man where we were probably meant to be sitting.
The service was slow, and the young woman serving our table clearly felt this was well beneath her. In a largish group this was fine and even 'entertaining' to observe such a chip on someone's shoulder, but even as a mature professional I do not know if I would have felt quite so comfortable if I had been on my own.
We chose several dishes and most were of the usual very high standard we have come to expect. More as a way to 'warm' the waitress and try and foster some attempt at a relationship/ good humour, we asked her for a recommendation to make up the number of dishes we were ordering. Her suggestion was the only absolutely inedible dish I have ever had there - a bizarre nod to ham, egg and chips with a 'tapas' overhaul (that being simply substituting the ham for prosciutto or similar) Not good, or what one would expect at a tapas establishment.
Would we return? Yes. The restaurant is good and the food is most enjoyable and sociable.
Do we have any advice? Yes. Think carefully about who is employed to ensure that a previously well deserved reputation remains.
We have just discovered this place and love going there. The food is delicious and authentic with a good range of beers and wine. The staff are friendly and the service is good. The one down side is that when the restaurant is busy it gets very noisy, but I would recommend it for a foodie night out.
