What Insiders Are Saying
Village East is one of the best spots in Bermondsey for brunch, and it works for a group dinner or low-key date too.
Best not to have a table near the open kitchen - the temperature was so high we couldn’t even stay for dessert. The rest of the experience was excellent - great cocktails, fantastic bar and really great atmosphere.
Great food, great service, reasonably priced. We had a great evening here
A really good restaurant well worth a visit. Food was excellent, the only small issue we had was with the service. The staff were very friendly and helpful but it took a while to take our order. However when our order was taken the food arrived very quickly and staff were great, The service just seemed a little chaotic. Would definitely go again.
We were not checked on by the staff once we'd received our food, so didn't get chance to ask for one of our dishes to be amended. We were then a little annoyed that the service charge was automatically added to the bill, as we would have chosen not to pay it. The food was fine and the ambience good, but we were disappointed by the inattentive staff.
The service was not consistent - within a space of 5 minutes, 3 different staff asked for our food order, when we had made it clear that we were in no rush.
The bread toaster malfunctioned, meaning that there was an overwhelming smell of burnt toast for ages - unfortunately, this got into my clothes fabric and so I smelt of burnt toast for the day - classic.
I’ve been to Village East multiple times - but this wasn’t the usual experience that I was used to.
Generally very good, but I think the food and drinks are expensive. The choice of food was very varied, which in principle is a good thing for a group dining together, but I found this slightly off-putting more than enticing.
Great place for either a drink or food.
Been here plenty of times in the past. Just like the good old days.
Definitely worth a visit
We had a mix of the small shared plates between us. Everything was delicious- particularly liked the lamb chops and the tuna tartare. The Pinot noir was very good and the waiter was lovely- really friendly. We had a great time; thanks!
We had a great evening with friends and our two dogs, the service was great and they went out of their way to tend to the dogs! The food and drinks were also great. Village East always can be relied upon to cover all our requirement.
Lovely breakfast, with great Village East cocktails and the usual terrific, friendly service.
Excellent service but not great veggie options
Dear Polly Thanks for the feedback, I'm so sorry that you didn't enjoy our veggie options, would you be able to let me know what you would like to see improved as we pride ourselves in offering a diverse menu and I hate to think we are letting our Vegan/veggie friends down. Many Thanks Richard General Manager
Amazing food and great service! We had a lovely table in the window, all the dishes were excellent (especially the salt beef croquettes, lamb chops, baby gem with blue cheese and the short rib with smoked mash). Also the cocktail menu was huge and they were all delicious!!!
The steak and eggs was flooded in sauce. There was zero indication of that on the menu and the server also didn’t warn me. I’m on a no carb diet so ordered the most protein focused thing on the menu and was very disappointed
Hi Thank you for the feedback regarding the steak and eggs. I have passed it on the Head Chef who has already adjusted the amount of sauce that comes with the dish. Many Thanks Richard General Manager
Fantastic service! The servers were incredibly helpful - we had a baby in our party who was fussing a little and needed tending to, and our waitress was more than happy to hold back on taking our order until we were ready.
When we made our order, we made a few requests to swap certain ingredients in or out of a meal, and the servers and the chefs were more than happy to make these changes for us.
The food was exceptional - I had the vegetarian breakfast which was delicious, and the coffee was also very good! A friend of mine ordered soft poached eggs - she noticed that one of the eggs was a little more hard poached than she had hoped for, and the chefs made her a whole new breakfast with new eggs to make up for it!
The only (very minor!) snag in our time at Village East was that the high chairs were too low for the baby in our party to be able to see us, as we were sitting at a high table, which may have contributed to her fussing a little - but this could easily be resolved by different high chairs, or by ensuring that a party with a baby does not sit at the higher tables in the restaurant.
Overall I was thoroughly impressed with both the service and the quality of food at the restaurant, and I will most certainly be recommending the restaurant to friends.
Hi Hanna Wow what a lovely review, I have passed it on to my team especially those who were working that day, and I have taken your comments about the height of the table and made sure that my team are aware that if possible to avoid sitting guests with babies on high tables. We hope to see you again soon. Many Thanks Richard General Manager
Shame to return here after several visits in last few years .. and first thing i noticed was it was half empty sat lunch ? Never seen it like that , service was poor and the food was average nothing like before hence the half full restaurant ! How disappointing
I hadn’t been to Village East since it opened a number of years ago and was the place to dine. It definitely didn’t stack up against it’s early days. The food was fine, but not exceptional. The veggie burger bun was rock solid, but the rib was a clear winner on our table. The service was very slow, although friendly and being positioned next to the kitchen with a table of 13 behind us and a private party going on below certainly didn’t help the noise levels - but diner rowdiness isn’t really their fault! All in all it was ok, but not a patch on what it used to be.
Went to Village East for brunch and it was lovely. Great food and friendly service.
Nice food, the girl who served us was lovely, took our coats, kept drinks topped up. We had a work meeting and a nice booth to sit and chat. Thank you
Good food and great ambiance... Recommended if you are around...
Good atmosphere and friendly staff, but food overpriced and not that great. We had brunch - avocado and feta benedict. The eggs were cooked to perfection, but the muffins were stale and the avocado a bit brown- not worth the £12.
The full English veggie breakfast was served with mass produced white loaf toast. I would have thought they would’ve used fresh bread
Good service, black miso cod was a great piece of fish, however not really miso enough!!
A lovely breakfast, with attentive and friendly staff and outstsnding food. The breakfasr cocktails were terrific. Altogether, a fabulous experience.
The food, service and ambience were all good, but sadly spoilt by the booth seating which was uncomfortable with inadequate space for average sized adults
This was the fourth time I’ve visited Village East. And I came away a little disappointed.
The menu seems very inaccessible. On previous visits, there was plenty for me to choose from. But this time it was difficult to put together a satisfying meal. While I applaud the range and imagination of the vegetarian options, the non-vegetarian options appeared lacklustre.
It also seems odd that a restaurant that has put some imagination into some of its dishes, only has quite pedestrian ice cream options totally lacking in excitement.
Also some attention is needed on the booths near the entrance. These are very cramped and it obvious that they are not designed for anyone of larger size.
Went with my hot wife for dinner. It's a great place. Good atmosphere and service was great. Had the mac & cheese followed by the beef short rib. Delicious. We'll be back.
Good food but we were kicked off our table after just over an hour as they needed it back which felt a bit rude.
One of the best Sunday brunches I had in London ... lovely experience , and friendly atmosphere:)
Defo recommend this restaurant!
Very average breakfast. Flavours could be enhanced. Breakfast is very competitive in London and unfortunately the flavours, taste and presentation are very average. For instance, my avocado on toast was served with cold toast.
Really excellent food and service. The bacon sandwich was exceptional!
Food was good, only real criticism was the starter masala lamb chop. I know it’s a starter but for £7 it was minuscule and really poor value for money. Bean burger was good and port braised short rib was delicious.
Although it was a really nice setting and the wine was lovely, my dish (stir-fried quinoa) was too plain.
The atmosphere and service and really good but unfortunately the food is overpriced for what you get.
Amazing imaginative dishes, quirky location and great atmosphere. Staff are very attentive and knowledgable about the menu which was great. I will be back!
Good food, good wine, good value, great service. We went for the fixed lunch option which was tasty and inexpensive. The restaurant was quiet and the staff were attentive. A really good option before heading to White Cube or exploring Bermondsey.
Relaxed friendly, unpretentious, good food, reasonable prices, would recommend it.
Food was good, but room was cold and some dogs on adjacent table were barking every time door opened.
Amazing service extremely attentive and food was lovely.
Great food and location and service, reasonable price, can't fault!
Took my daughter for brunch. We had eggs royale and the pancakes were really top quality! Nice to sit in a booth too.
