The restaurant acts as an environment in which to meet, eat and drink at any time during the day and evening, always bustling, efficient and full of activity.
The menu is served la carte for lunch and dinner service, encouraging the guest to share both starters and mains as a way to try all the different elements the kitchen has to offer. The small plates also accommodate those who are in a hurry and wish to dine less substantially. Village East's menus consist solely of fresh well sourced produce incorporating classic cooking inspired by unique ingredients.
What Insiders Are Saying
Village East is one of the best spots in Bermondsey for brunch, and it works for a group dinner or low-key date too.
Amazing imaginative dishes, quirky location and great atmosphere. Staff are very attentive and knowledgable about the menu which was great. I will be back!
Good food, good wine, good value, great service. We went for the fixed lunch option which was tasty and inexpensive. The restaurant was quiet and the staff were attentive. A really good option before heading to White Cube or exploring Bermondsey.
Relaxed friendly, unpretentious, good food, reasonable prices, would recommend it.
Food was good, but room was cold and some dogs on adjacent table were barking every time door opened.
Amazing service extremely attentive and food was lovely.
Great food and location and service, reasonable price, can't fault!
Took my daughter for brunch. We had eggs royale and the pancakes were really top quality! Nice to sit in a booth too.
Great food and great service - however 4 stars because they forgot both my coffee and our orders so we had to wait for an extra half an hour to get our coffee and then food which was a bit disappointing. Given you only have the table for an hour and a half, this was quite a significant delay.
Excellent food, as always! However service was a bit slow and we were often looking around trying to get a waiter’s attention. The main problem we had was that the tables were too close together. I am a slim person but struggled to get out from my table to go to the bathroom without knocking the wine glasses over on the table next to us!
Great food and good service - best to book as very popular - visited on Saturday afternoon
Feels the restaurant has gone down hill over the years. Menu feels reduced (where’s the chateaubriand?), quality has reduced (felt like average pub grub rather than a dedicated restaurant) and the service was nowhere near as attentive as we’ve had the in past (no topping up of water etc.). Decor is still nice, but feels without this it really would not be a desirable place to go at all. A shame as this was a nice part of Bermondsey Street.
An excellent place to come for meeting old friends for a catch up.
No noisy music or tv screens.
Interesting dishes but beers were limited in choice.
Lovely food, a little noisy but great service and advice, also location was lovely.
Great service and good value for money. Brunch was nice.
This is my third trip to VE for brunch and it was my 3rd cold food experience which is odd as this isn’t mirrored in the evening service where my food does arrive hot!! Taste was all there - just not the temperature...
I like it here and I’ll come again - staff are as ever exceptional so if the (lack of) heat niggles can be ironed out - all would be perfect!
Sleek welcoming space but don't go too often or you won't fit into the fixed seating! Excellent food. My chicken starter was perhaps the tastiest chicken I've ever tasted. My vegan daughter's beetroot arancini were fun, pretty and strangely delicious. Ella's aubergine main was good but slightly underseasonned. My mussels were full of flavour but could have been a bit hotter. The house wine was fruity with strong apricot overtones. Service was informal and attentive. Overall a great place for lunch at a reasonable price - dinner too no doubt.
Cool place but food was cold and service slow, they also forgot something I ordered which was annoying.
Good, prompt service. Pancakes and veggie breakfast were good, salmon and scrambled eggs a bit small/disappointing.
Great spot for brunch, all food was very tasty, relaxed but attentive service and a good atmosphere
Overrated. Ordered a table for 1pm, took our drinks and food order at 1:40pm after chasing for a waiter. Our waiter was rude and food so average. Nothing to write home about.
Amazing service! Brilliant ambience. Would highly recommend.
Service was okay given the fact it was so busy. Our waitress was really friendly and helpful. Some of the food dishes were a bit bland but the rest was amazing. Overall really enjoyed it and would recommend.
Really nice venue, service was a little slow but the staff were very friendly & the food & drinks were excellent which up for it. Definitely recommend it!
Not a restaurant we would try again. Service was great but the food and drink way too overpriced and nothing special. We felt too crammed in. There is not a cosy feel to the place and we couldnt wait to leave.
The atmosphere was nice however the turkey leg with fried rice was not nice. The rice looked like maggots, which meant all I ate was just a massive turkey leg
Had the calamari for starters which was nice but a bit greasy if I’m honest. Sea bass for mains was delicious and sorbet for desert. Great service but a bit pricey
Truly amazing! Nailed my special request. The service was friendly and the mussels delicious (as always)!
Let us stay chatting away for ages. Made a catch up with a friend who I haven't seen for a long time a lovely experience, thank you
Great location and really buzzing with atmosphere, the food was delicious. The service was very quick and staff were attentive. I arrived late but they took my order and the food was on the table before all my friends had finished.
Came here for lunch after having been for dinner before where there was an amazing menu selection. Sadly the lunch offering wasn't quite as varied and two of the brunch options were only available till 1pm (we arrived at 1:30). The staff were really nice but service was way too slow and we had to grab someone's attention every time we wanted to order/get the bill etc. Had the staff been a bit more attentive I'd have given it 4 stars.
Great food, lovely atmosphere, good location
It was a good night out but they were slightly hurrying us to get through our meal to get the table back
Even tough the food is of very good standard the portion of our fish dishes was wsy too small considering the price for it and considering in addition the questionable but having become standard "automatic" service charge.
Ambience is great but the food is overpriced and really not good! I've had better food in a local wetherspoons. The bread was stale. Really shocking for such a nice looking restaurant :(
Great local restaurant
There were 3 of us at lunch. Staff were attentive and friendly - kitchen specifically made us fresh ginger and lemon tea which isn't even on the menu! But the waitress suggested it as we were suffering from a cold. We also stayed after the kitchen closed by they still made us up desserts.
Superfood salad was really nice, just a little heavy on the salt. Would prefer less salt.
The Chicken Roast was spectacular! Everything about that plate was impressive.
The squid needed to be drained better as it was overly greasy.
But overall we enjoyed our food.
All the food was good but the start train was original and excellent.
Great food & amazing service as always! One of my favourite places to eat and drink.
We enjoyed a pre-Christmas family brunch here and it was very pleasant. The restaurant is more spacious than expected. We had a comfortable table upstairs and service was attentive. There is a good range of brunch options that suited our party, two of whom are vegetarian.
Very average. The food was OK enough, an attempt to make a varied menu, but once the plates arrived it was all very plane and average, the very least and nothing more. Friendly staff.
